How the Hunter Clan came to be

A number of things inspired me to create the Hunter Clan series.

From other amazing authors, to my own imagination and research.

I had played with the idea of writing, though it took me a long time to go ahead with it. And while my first two books finished were contemporaries, I knew my true passion would be for paranormal.

I love a good wolf-shifter story as much as the next person, so I always knew that when I finally worked up the courage to write a paranormal then Wolves would be at the center. But magic…definitely a winner for me as well. Mythology has been a constant interest for me since I was a kid. I considered adapting it to a future career when I grew up…but I never imagined it would be like this. lol

The idea of elementals kicking butt along side wolves was pretty tempting. When the idea of a fifth element (Spirit) and a potential bad guy (Potestas) that was originally formed out of fear came to mind, I could already see the series forming. The Hunter Clan and its future spin-offs.

I did a lot of research on the history of the legend of wolves in mythology, which was where I came across the legend of Asena and the Ashina Clan. The story was so close to how wolf shifters could have been created that everything kind of built from there. Next came Elementals and the possibility of a fifth element that was powerful yet terrifying….which led to Potestas being formed.

History has shown the extreme groups that can be formed in fear and the damage they could unleash. So I took this very human aspect and inserted into the Hunter Clan world. Like all fanatical groups, it is nearly impossible to extinguish them once they are formed, and that was the premise for their reappearance in the series. A ghost from the past, a legend becoming real and a species who were once suppressed, finding their footing again in the world.

Jess Buffett was born and raised in New South Wales, Australia. She married her high school sweetheart and they live on the Central Coast with their two children. Jess is a hopeless romantic who loves stories about true love that sizzle with a happy ending—which is probably a good thing given what she writes. She is a huge fan of M/M, M/F and Menage romance—anything with hunky men in all their glory, whether they be shifters, vampires, cowboys, or the boy next door.
