Three Hearts

Liam Scott is sick. That’s not supposed to be possible. As a wolf shifter, he’s supposed to be able to heal. The omega gene he was born with means he’s capable of carrying shifter young and Liam is worried that whatever is wrong will mean his one-day hope of having pups will be dashed. But despite the fears keeping him away from the doctor until now, he knows he needs to go.

It turns out the sickness is temporary, but the treatment causes a whole other problem.

Mason’s alpha gene means he’s one of very few wolves who can impregnate an omega male. For two years, he’d been watching Liam, but things kept getting in the way. When Liam shows up in heat, Mason recognizes the opportunity he needs and doesn’t hesitate make to Liam his mate and the father of his pups.

But Liam has old wounds and fears to work through which the pregnancy is only making worse, and Mason isn’t sure how to get past them to show he’s serious about making a life together as loving mates. It’s not until a female wolf decides Mason should be hers that Liam makes his biggest worry known—and Mason can finally put the fears to rest.

Mason

I yanked him in, wrapping both arms around him and holding him tightly against me. His cock ground into mine, the hard line of it making me crazy. When I touched my tongue to his lips, he opened immediately and I didn’t hesitate to taste.

Something sweet mixed with coffee. And under it, a flavor that called to me in a way I’d never felt before.

Shifters didn’t have fated mates or anything like that. But if we had, Liam would have been mine. His deep brown eyes, handsome face, full lips, and lean, toned body had given me more than one unfortunate erection in the office when I’d seen him. His pheromones—not the omega ones, just his—called to me.

I’d been trying to figure out when best to approach him. The first time I’d seen him, some five minutes after he’d started on his first day, I knew I wanted him. I wanted to find out what made him tick. I wanted to know what he liked, what made him laugh, what pissed him off.

For two years, however, things got in the way. The company came under suspicion of securities fraud, which wasn’t true, but created almost a year of nightmare hours, meetings, and travel. Liam traveled quite a bit as well, and it seemed when I was in the office, he was on the road.

But now, now I had the chance to do more, and I wasn’t going to pass it up. It might be a bit backward, but if he wanted it as much as I did—and that wasn’t all pheromones talking, I was sure of it—then I’d do things backward. It seemed he did, so I wasn’t going to hesitate further.

I slid one hand up to cradle his head, fingers threading through his soft hair. The other, I dropped to cup his ass. The heat and wetness through his pants told me how aroused he was. If I hadn’t already smelled it, that would have said enough.

I tugged his shirt out of his pants and slid my hand under the waistband, under his briefs, then pushed one finger between his cheeks. He was soaked, dripping with his natural lubrication, and it made me harder than ever. I teased his hole, making him moan and buck toward me.

I broke the kiss, looking down at his glazed eyes, swollen, wet lips, and flushed face. My cock twitched at his beauty. It took me several seconds before I could speak. “Liam?” My voice came out growly, my wolf close to the surface. He wanted to mate, wanted to take Liam now, didn’t understand my hesitation.

Liam swallowed, breathing hard. “Yes?”

“Tell me now if you don’t think you could take me for a mate.”

His eyes widened. “You… you’d mate me?” He blinked a few times as he stared up at me.

I didn’t scowl, but I wanted to. I didn’t know who he’d been with or what he’d seen to make him think I’d breed him without mating because we both knew that was the likely outcome of us fucking. But whoever made him think that, I wanted to find them and tear them to pieces. I gave myself a moment to calm down so I didn’t come out sounding angry.

“Yes, I want to mate you, Liam. I want to breed you too. I want to bury my cock deep in your ass and fill you with my seed, planting pups in your belly.” I took a breath to slow myself down a little so I could focus on making sure he understood this. “Then I want to watch you grow big with them. I want to be there when you deliver them. I want to help you raise them. Then I want to do it all over again.”

He swallowed again, hard this time. His heartbeat sped up, his eyes wide. He lifted his hand and cupped my face, his gaze dancing over it. “You do?” he said, in wonder.

Again, it made me want to punch something, but I kept that buried and simply nodded.

“Yes,” he said, sounding strangled.

I took it; I couldn’t hold back anymore. I caught his lips in another deep kiss. The moan he let out was louder, and I remembered we were in my office. We should have gone somewhere else—my place, his, it didn’t matter—but there was no way I could wait that long, and based on Liam’s body language, he would be able to either.

I eased him back. “Strip. Get on the couch while I lock the door.” I probably sounded crazy—or like an asshole alpha—giving him orders, like that, but the alpha in me needed to mate, and I needed to get inside him five minutes ago.

He didn’t seem to mind, though. He did look a bit dazed but moved over to the couch all the same. I crossed my office in maybe three strides, then poked my head out the door. When Sara looked over at me, raising her eyebrows, I said, “Cancel everything this afternoon.” I paused, then added, “In fact, cancel everything for the next four days.”

Sara blinked at me but didn’t say anything and turned back to her computer.

Review: Wolf shifter Liam is feeling rundown and doesn’t have a clue what is wrong with him, but a visit to the doctor soon puts him to rights… with a teeny tiny side effect. Mason has had his eye on Liam ever since Liam started working for the company two years before, but it isn’t until Liam visits his office after a bout of illness that Mason finally acts on his attraction.

Liam finds it hard to believe that an alpha wolf like Mason really wants him, his doubts make it hard for him to come forward with the truth of his feelings and it isn’t until a female wolf sniffs around Mason that he admits the truth. Mason has tried everything except admit his love to convince Liam that no one else interests him, and it isn’t until he finds the omega crying in the bathroom that Mason admits all.

I enjoyed this story; it’s a great paranormal romance that is easy going with just a couple of moments of tension. Mason and Liam are great characters, they are both pretty easy going, they want the same things out of life and their attraction to each other is scorching.

The storyline is pretty simple, two men falling for each other, building a life together and falling in love with just one or two hiccups… it’s a super sweet story which was a joy to read, although by the end of the epilogue I thought they’d both lost their minds! (You’ll know why when you read it 😉 )

The world that Mason and Liam live in is a joy to read, humans and shifters live together in harmony, the usual shifter packs don’t come into play and although there is an Alpha and an omega it’s not the usually dynamics that we find in shifter stories. It’s a refreshing story that brings a new view to shifter stories that is most welcome.

I recommend this to those who love paranormal stories with new twists, who adore great storylines, hot characters who have to find their way to admitting how they feel, and a fantastic happy ending.
