Tricking Chase

(Devils Pride MC 01)
by

Jessie G.

As Sergeant At Arms for Devils Pride MC, Tyler “Trick” Malone’s take no prisoners reputation make him one of the most feared and respected members of the club. Unbeknownst to the MC, Trick indulges his most dangerous secret, traveling out of state twice a year to trade his cut for the whip he expertly wields at a gay dungeon.

Trick’s well organized life takes a turn when he saves bar back, and terrified submissive, Chase Ward in a Georgia dungeon. With his protector and dungeon owner dead, Chase is no longer safe in the place he once called home. With the new dungeon owners circling like sharks, he desperately begs for sanctuary in the arms of his savior.

A year later, the MC is still none the wiser that Trick’s houseboy is anything more than a grateful servant. Chase knows, if the club finds out their secret, they will kill Trick—the man he’s come to rely on for everything from the food he eats to the pleasure he feels to the security he craves. Even when gratitude turns to love, Chase never expects reciprocation from his ruthless Master. After all, the only way for them to survive is if Trick remains the heartless bastard the MC knows.

Trick is positive he has it under control and having Chase around has definitely made his life easier. There doesn’t seem to be any harm in letting Chase take a part-time job at Velvet Ropes, especially after meeting privately with the owners. That is until a bomb explodes at the club, leaving Chase fighting for his life and forcing Trick to face his long hidden feelings.

Even if Chase survives, that bomb has done more than rock the foundation of the popular leather club. It’s blown Trick and Chase’s well-guarded secret out of hiding, putting their lifestyle and their lives at risk. Now there is only one thing Trick needs to do before the club gets them and that’s to get revenge on the person who dared to hurt his precious boy.

Authors Note: Tricking Chase is a direct spin-off of The Protector, which is book 3 in my Sizzling Miami series. Though I tried to provide enough details that it isn’t necessary to have read that book, I cannot really call this a standalone.

Warning: Tricking Chase contains an established D/s relationship, hot guys on motorcycles, an undercover DEA agent named Snake, and a few visits from fan favorite Sizzling Miami characters.

First, I’d like to thank MM Good Book Reviews for hosting today’s stop on the Tricking Chase Book Tour. This book has been rooting around in my head for a year, I had no idea how it would tie into the Sizzling Miami series, or that it would spin-off into the Devils Pride MC series, but I can honestly say that I’m happy to be on this journey and can’t see what happens next for all my buys.

In trying to come up with an interesting blog post, I thought I’d talk about a trait I share with one of my main characters. I saw a picture on Facebook from an author showing her desk. It was captioned “A Writer’s Life” and the desk was a jumble of papers, notebooks, sticky notes and pens. Other authors commented with variations of “looks like mine”. Me, I shuddered at the horror. My desk is meticulous, to the point that anything actually on the surface of my desk must be lined up just so. Put me and my laptop in the middle of a crowded intersection and I can write. Put that same laptop on a disorganized surface and my muse runs in terror.

I call it an organizational tick, perhaps it’s OCD, whatever it is it extends beyond the surface of my desk. I keep meticulous spreadsheets for each of my books. I’m not a plotter, exactly. When I sit down to write, I like to just let the story flow. But I’m writing a series and that requires organization. The main players in the series, the extended cast of characters, locations, event timelines, crossover points…you name it, it’s got a column in a spreadsheet. If I get too far in the book and haven’t tended to my spreadsheet, I will stop and make sure I’ve notated everything I feel needs to be notated.

My husband says he’s never seen anything like it. This organizational tick extends to every facet of my life. My home, my life, every hour in the day, is meticulously organized. It’s not that I can’t go with the flow, I can…to an extent. If we wake up on a Saturday and he says “let’s hop on the bike and see where it will take us”, I can do that happily. Yes, it’s taken me a while to get to that point, but I can. However, if he gives me fair warning, I will have that whole trip mapped out, meals organized and points of interest plotted.

This is one of Chase’s ‘issues’, as he calls them. His need to do things a certain way, in a certain time frame, is at times more a Master to him than Ty is. And a big source of frustration for him. Ty is a go with the flow kind of guy. If he wakes up and wants to hop on the bike, he doesn’t want to hear that Chase has scheduled a day of cleaning. It’s become a battle of wills, Ty’s control fighting this mental monster Chase has had to face alone all his life. But Ty knows that only Chase can master this beast. By showing Chase that he, not his OCD or even the man he calls Master, is truly in control, he gives Chase his biggest weapon. Confidence.

They say write what you know. Well, I can truly say that for the first time, I put a huge piece of myself into a book. Chase and I, we like things just so, but we’re learning to go with the flow and love it just as much.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas, sensations (obsessions), or behaviors that make them feel driven to do something (compulsions).

Authors Note: Tricking Chase starts before The Protector ends. This scene is from that overlap

Ty looked around the table and couldn’t think of a more unlikely gathering. “So, a biker, a broker, a mechanic and a merc walk into a bar…stop me if you’ve heard this one.”

Saul leaned back in his chair, a small smile transforming the harsh slash of his mouth. “Is that what had you so quiet? I just thought you were anti-social.”

“Me? I’m a social butterfly.” Before they jumped into the main event, he figured he’d do something to put Chase’s mind at ease. “You gonna bring the little runt home where he belongs? Chase misses him.”

Saul looked confused, then annoyed, and finally settled on resigned. “You know he doesn’t like jokes about his height.”

“Yeah, that’s why I do it.” And Kyle didn’t get upset with him anymore, so why stop? “So, are you?”

“Shouldn’t you have waited to find out why Clay thought we should meet before asking?”

“‘Cause whatever the stuffed shirt is gonna tell me is going to change my mind? Please. You’re bad, I’m bad, we’re all fucking bad. What’s that gotta do with Kyle? The little runt’s been working himself into the ground since he left you and my boy’s worried. So, we’re here to deal with the shit, right? The reasons you sent the porn star away? The reasons why your Javier jumps over every little sound?” It was a guess that the reasons were all connected and Saul’s bored expression gave nothing away, which was really all the confirmation he needed.

The silence stretched between them, awkward and rife with tension, while Saul decided how he wanted to answer. Finally he shook his head. “No, I’m not going after Kyle. He knows all the reasons to stay as far away as possible.”

Ty understood, but he also knew Kyle didn’t leave because of any reasons Saul might have given. “Yeah, those cousins are a stubborn lot. I gave Chase all my reasons, even offered him money to get set up somewhere safe…see how well that turned out?”

“Maybe you should have tried harder.” The derision in that statement didn’t bother him one bit. Yes, he absolutely regretted putting Chase in danger.

“Sure, maybe, or maybe Chase knew better. And maybe I don’t regret a single day I’ve had him in my life. And just maybe that makes me a selfish bastard that should have tried harder.” Ty smiled, took aim and fired. “And maybe you’re losing out on a great thing by holding on to all that self-righteous bullshit. It’s certainly not going to keep you warm at night.”

“My life with Javier—”

“Is clearly missing something or you both wouldn’t have gone after Kyle.” He watched that impassive mask slip and felt pretty damn good. “Life’s too short for bullshit sacrifices.”

“Is this what you thought I needed help with?” Saul transferred his angry gaze to Clay.

“No. Yes, but only because it’s all connected.” Clay sighed and sent him another of those withering glares he loved so much. “Must you be so abrasive?”

“Yes, he must!” Chase laughed as the boys ran past and headed for the pool.

About Jessie

Jessie G Bio Photo“Wearer of Many Hats” is a title that was given to Jessie by a former employer some twenty years ago. This dubious distinction, along with the job description “everything is her fault”, came after she fixed an electrical problem—during her interview—that the office had been having for years. After that, if anything went wrong, her coworkers immediately declared it her fault so she’d have to fix it. This position of importance inspired the owner to convert a closet into an office, thereby providing her coworkers endless opportunities to refer to her as “the girl in the closet.”

Today she is still the “Wearer of Many Hats” and her family has readily jumped on the “everything is her fault” bandwagon. Most mornings start at 5am, where she stumbles into her home office (which is step or two up from a closet) to tackle her personal email, watch gay porn and satisfy her Trivia Crack addiction. By six, she’s caffeinated and ready to take on the world. Wearing her favorite red power nightgown, she expertly designs websites, provides SEO and social media services, freelances as a bookkeeper, cooks, cleans and writes.

Writing has been the elusive, life-long goal that seemed to be getting further away as the years went by. It took 30+ years to achieve, but she’s decided that timing is everything. The world wasn’t ready for m/m romance back then, and now that it is, the girl in the closet has finally found her writing home.

Jessie is a firm believer in marriage equality, love at first sight, power dynamics and happily ever after. She’s a lover of strong secondary characters and series filled with families, biological or chosen. All are themes you’ll find throughout her books.

Review: If you have read the Sizzling Miami series by Jessie G then you already know what a talented author she is. Tricking Chase, the first book in the new spinoff series, Devil’s Pride MC, takes us in another direction introducing us to another side of this amazing dynamic. I would strongly encourage you to read Sizzling Miami series before starting this one. If not all three, at least, The Protector, Book 3. You could read Tricking Chase without the others but the background history you would miss out on would lend to some confusion, as well as, a connection you get knowing the other characters.

The Protector ended giving us a small insight into the lives of Ty and Chase. We didn’t know much about them other than someone tried to hurt Ty’s boy and all hell was about to break lose. Jessie takes us back to the beginning of how Trick, aka Ty, came to be the Master of Chase and ultimately his whole world. Chase wasn’t necessarily in a bad relationship prior to Ty, until his owner died, which caused Chase to spin out of control with fear. Until Ty, he didn’t know what it meant to truly have love and most of all have love reciprocated.

Jessie G. - Tricking Chase Fanart

Ty is a much feared man not only with the people in his motorcycle club but with anyone he comes into contact with. And, that’s the way Ty likes it. He doesn’t consider himself to be a nice person, doesn’t want to be a nice person, but then Chase entered his world and showed him the true meaning of love. When Chase becomes hurt helping Ty find his missing sister, all bets are off. Whoever tried to hurt his boy will be paying most likely with their life as soon as Ty can find them. Unfortunately, the culprit is looking like his long lost missing sister whom Ty has devoted most of his adult life looking for. Is it possible his baby sister is now a ruthless killer?

Ty is dangerous and he doesn’t hesitate on doing what needs done. But, at home…in his own space, he loves and cherishes Chase above all else. Most of his friends or their friends don’t see their connection because they have to hide so much of their relationship. They are in tune with each other and I think some of their closest friends envy their connection.

Clay looked at him curiously. “I am forever fascinated by your mind. Where did you go in the middle of our conversation that prompted that little display of power?”

“That’s between me and my boy.” He had no doubt that Chase understood his intent.

“Does he read you that well?”

“Chase.”

“Yes, Master?”

“Are you confused by what just happened?”

“The only thing that confuses me is your question. I am your precious property, owned and provided for better than I could have ever dreamed of. If it pleases you to tease your property or torture it or allow it pleasure, I am more grateful than I can express to be that property. Didn’t I show that properly, Master?”

“Christ, you are fucked, aren’t you?” Clay whispered thoughtfully.

Fucked? That ship sailed a long time ago.

Jessie G certainly knows how to write an amazing story that keeps you enthralled from page one. She intricately weaves just enough details to keep you on the edge of your seat never knowing who or what is going to strike. She has masterfully and cleverly laid out a plot that truly thickens as you get further and further into the story.

There are a lot of characters at play in Jessie’s books. Not many authors can put so many characters into one story and make them feel vital and relevant to the storyline. However, Jessie can and does with each book she writes. You actually feel as though you are part of this big family of misfits and can relate to at least one if not more.

This is an action packed story that takes many twists and turns and all you can do is just hold on for the ride. The suspense will keep you biting your nails and feeling up your coffee cup many times. I think I ate a whole bag of M&M’s as I sat and read Tricking Chase because I was completely enthralled with the story.

There are always two main characters, sometimes more, that take precedence in a story. For me, Chase was the highlight in this incredible story. He is so loveable and has so much to offer. Of course, he wouldn’t be what he is without the guidance and love of his Master Ty. Jessie works magic when she puts two characters together. The love she incorporates between the two will light up your face as you read. The emotion she expresses in her characters is like a living and breathing entity that you actually feel.

Part of what makes this duo so special is the connection they share and Chase’s love of pleasing his master. He is a true submissive who wants to do nothing more than please the love of his life. Don’t get wrong or the wrong opinion of Chase because he thrives on submission. He definitely has a voice of his own and knows how to use it. He is not a pushover by any means nor does he allow anyone to treat him as such. He is very intelligent and can see things most others cannot. He is a partner to Ty in every way. Whether it be working on clues to finding his sister or in the bedroom they have a bond that continues to strengthen daily.

Master pushed him down and dragged the ends of the flogger over his trussed up package before pulling his arm back and taking aim. The sharp lick over his cock and balls made him whimper in need.

Zing, heat, breathe, hold…again…again…Master controlled him, but he was in control of his body’s responses. There would be no slip, no uncontrollable orgasm, not until Master allowed it.

I feel I need to add that Ty and Chase live a Master/sub lifestyle. There is BDSM in the story but it’s not hardcore. It is between two people who love each other very much and both are consenting adults. If you are a reader who doesn’t like BDSM or master/sub dynamic I still think you could read this and not be pulled from the story. It is truly a beautiful thing between two loving people. The author takes great care with her characters and it shows in their relationship.

I can’t recommend this enough if you love stories with suspense, action, love, great sex, and most of all great communication between the main characters. If they have problems they work them out. You won’t have none of this fighting and no reconciliation until the last chapter. These characters are partners and the author expresses that beautifully. Her originality and creativity will pull you in as a reader and you will want to gobble up everything she has. You won’t be disappointed either, if you do.
