Vixen's Valor by Charlie Cochet Mini Blog Tour, Review & Giveaway!

Hello all! Thank you for joining me on my little tour celebrating the release of Vixen’s Valor, the third book in the North Pole City Tales series. The series is named after the North Poles largest city. It’s also a Christmas themed city where all our Christmas elves hail from. Whenever the fellas are in town, whether walking into their favorite pub The White Hart, or waiting to catch a sleigh outside, I wanted to bring the reader into that magical world filled with the scents, sounds, and flavors of the holidays.

small__15875988441In North Pole City, the charming store fronts on Main Street are decorated with twinkling lights and sparkling tinsel, frosted ivy, garland, and wreaths. The cobbled streets are covered in white snow and in the distance the jingling bells of horses pulling sleighs can be heard. The scents of cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla waft through the air.

Everything is holiday themed, from the drinks served at the White Hart: peppermint juleps and cocoa cocktails. They have hot cocoa for breakfast with cinnamon toast. Their meals consist of what we normally deem tasty holiday treats like fudge and sugar cookies. I had to research all kinds of traditional tasty goodies. One of my personal favorite holiday/winter drinks is mint hot cocoa with tiny marshmallows or plenty of whip cream on top. Yum! Researching this series is so much fun. Of course it always leaves me craving something chocolaty.

Do you have a favorite holiday treat, drink, or indulgence?

Story Summary

Rein Dear is a prestigious title, accompanied by admiration, devotion, and celebrity status, all of which one saucy Vixen thrives on. Alas, Vixen’s only concerned with having fun, unlike his stuffy and sensible best friend, Rudy Rein Dear, who Vixen has always been jealous of. Aside from being chosen by Mayor Kringle to be Captain the Rein Dear Squadron, Rudy’s managed to snag himself a prince, even if that prince is the dangerous and imposing Jack Frost.

All’s not lost for Vixen though. He discovers Jack’s cousin Vale has a soft spot for him. Vale Frost might not be a dashing prince, but he’s the next best thing: a decorated Lieutenant for the Toy Soldier Army, and a member of the Frost monarchy.

Determined to get what Vixen feels he deserves, he sets off on a mission to ensnare the kind-hearted lieutenant. But Vixen’s selfish ways are sure to lead to disaster, and it’ll take more than a little courage to set things right.

Review: This story is part of a series and is best read in order. Vixen is a Rein Dear and he loves his position, he’s in the spotlight, people adore him and elves want him and the only thing he longs for more is to be swept of his feet by a prince. But the only available prince has just been snatched up by his best friend Rudy, Vixen might just have to set his sights lower. Vale is Jack Frost’s cousin and a member of the Frost monarchy, he might not be a prince but he is a lieutenant in the Toy Soldier Army, Vale has also had a crush on Vixen for some time but thinks he hasn’t got a chance with the saucy Rein Dear until Vixen suddenly begins to accept his advances. But things start to go wrong when Vixen learns a closely guarded secret and his bitter jealousy has him bragging about something he shouldn’t and it puts the entire Frost family in danger.

Oh it’s so good to see the Rein Dears again, I might have had to wait a year but their stories certainly hit the spot. This is Vixen and Vale’s story, we saw briefly in The Heart of Frost how Vale was crushing on Vixen well now we see them finally getting together but as you know there is never an easy time of it for couples in the North Pole City and this story is no different. Mending Noel was a sweet, exciting story tinged with danger and conspiracy then The Heart of Frost was a sweet daring romance that is tinged with darkness and mystery, now this story is a cute flirty romance that has jealousy and insecurity and just a dash of bravery and redemption *sigh* Charlie Cochet certainly knows how to keep her Christmas stories fresh and entertaining.

We have seen both Vale and Vixen in the previous stories and while Vale is as sweet and charming as he appears, Vixen has his reasons for being a attention whore, his past has lead him to need validation and recognition but the genuine nice things he does he keeps secret. Vixen and Vale are an incredible couple when Vale convinces Vixen he wants to know the real Vixen and not the image he portrays. Together they shine but it doesn’t stop Vixen from feeling insecure. In fact Vixen nearly ruins everything between them because of his insecurity.

We get an excellent story, a blossoming romance, jealousy and insecurity, betrayal and danger and some wonderful romantic moments, along with that dash of Christmas magic that make the Rein Dear stories so wonderful. Yes I know I haven’t mentioned what the danger is but I will hint that it is connected in some way to the Mouse King 😉 I must admit that I was surprised to discover poverty at the North Pole but I suppose that even elves fall on hard times and struggle to survive, it did give us a greater insight into what the Rein Dears get up to when they aren’t practicing for the Christmas flight (and drinking eggnog) and it certainly let Vixen and his kind heart shine.

I recommend this to those who love fantasy and magic, elves and Christmas, love and longing, danger and sacrifice, forgiveness and hope and a wonderful happy ending.

  1. My favorite holiday treat is eggnog. Not the spiked kind, just the thick, creamy kind they sell at the grocery store (or Braum’s). It’s HIGHLY caloric, so I usually only allow myself one carton around Christmas, but it’s murder to walk past it when I’m shopping and try to ignore it. 🙂
