Dogwood Days

Small-town heroes and big-town hearts.

When Jefferson Lee Davis leaves his life in the big city to return to the small Southern town of Holly Creek, his natural charm soon has the residents eating out of his hand. Jefferson Lee steps up to help with Holly Creek’s biggest festival, Dogwood Days, which puts him directly in the path of the town’s hunky sheriff, Zane Yarbrough. Quirky neighbors, meddling family, and a sassy best friend make Jefferson Lee’s life a full-time adventure, and he warms to the idea of making a home in Holly Creek – a life that might include Zane.

But as the summer Rose Festival looms around the corner and more small-town secrets come to light, Jefferson Lee and Zane must take a long look at their blossoming romance. If they’re going to make it as a couple, they ll have to work through their trust issues and believe that the relationship they’re building can weather any storm that blows their way.

Spring Fever

Jefferson Lee Davis, Holly Creek’s new director of publicity, is gearing up for the next big town event, the summer Rose Festival. The job is running smoothly, but the course of true love has hit a rocky patch. His hunky boyfriend, Sheriff Zane Yarbrough, is receiving mysterious phone calls he doesn’t want to discuss. While Jefferson Lee is blindsided by jealousy, the second shoe drops with the appearance of a handsome stranger in the small, tight-knit community. Needing answers, Jefferson Lee enlists his best gal pal, Clover Crofton, to help find out what secrets Zane is hiding. When they land themselves in more trouble than Jefferson Lee bargained for, he and Zane face the first big test of their relationship. Zane and Jefferson Lee must work through their trust issues if they’re going to make it as a couple, and Clover may just have a thing or two to learn herself.

Review: For me, Dogwood Days & Spring Fever was absolutely wonderful to listen to (it is equally as fantastic to read, too, in my opinion). As you can tell from the title, this audiobook is a compilation of the two books in Poppy Dennison’s Holly Creek series.

I describe this one as a sweet MM – which sometimes is exactly what you need to sit back and forget your troubles. The story is essentially the trials and tribulations of Jefferson Lee after he goes to help his favourite uncle who had spent every summer with as a child in Holly Creek, NC. And OMG it is so dang Southern and cute that he is called Jefferson Lee the whole way through and not just Jefferson. There are a whole host of characters that make this a very colourful story. Of course, there is Jefferson Lee’s love interest, hunky sheriff Zane, as well as Jefferson’s uncle, Sherman (the Holly Creek know-it-all) whose arguments with Mayor Charles are legendary and hiding maybe a lot of sexual tension! Then there is Jefferson Lee’s best friend in Holly Creek, Clover. She is the Holly Creek busybody and is an absolute riot. Honestly, that is just a sample of these wide and varied characters but they are definitely my favourites, aside from Jefferson Lee, who is a complete sweetheart.

The story itself is basically Jefferson Lee trying to make the nutty people of Holly Creek happy. Getting to know more about the hunky sheriff and of course, being a devoted nephew to his “bachelor uncle”, Uncle Sherman, after breaking his leg. They take their Dogwood Days and Spring Fever Festivals very seriously in Holly Creek, most especially Uncle Sherman, and it is Jefferson Lee and Uncle Sherman at the front of promoting and reporting the news to Holly Creek.

If you’re looking for light and fluffy, with sweet and sexy, this is definitely the book for you. It is basically everything I love about Poppy Dennison. It also helps if you love some old fashioned Southern treatment mixed into your story. I really, dearly, hope that there will be more stories coming out of Holly Creek. Hell, after reading Spring Fever, I want a MF story for Clover! On top of all that, I have to say that I really enjoyed the narration for the most part. This is the first time I’ve heard anything by Matt Armstrong and would be interested in hearing more from him, no matter the author.
