In Another Life

At age 18 Shiloh Raben is tired. He no longer has the energy to deal with mean classmates, inner doubt, and fear of familial rejection, so he takes a razor to his wrist. When he wakes up in the hospital, Shiloh meets Travis Kahn, the EMT who saved him and didn’t leave his side.

Travis is handsome, smart, and funny – the type of guy Shiloh would never be brave enough to approach. But his near-death experience has an unusual side effect: The life that flashed before his eyes wasn’t the one he had already lived but rather the one he could live. With visions of a future by Travis’ side, Shiloh will find the strength to confront his fears and build a life worth fighting for.

All Of Me

(Robert M. Clarke ~ Narrator)
by

Cardeno C.

To bond with his destined mate, an Alpha wolf must look past what he sees and trust what he feels.

Bonded by their parents before they were conceived, wolf shifters Abel and Kai adored each other since they were children. As teens, the two future Alphas took the next step in their bonding process and vowed to remain true to one another until Kai came of age. But when tragedy struck, Abel felt betrayed and ran from Kai instead of completing their mating.

Abel never stops yearning for the man who was supposed to lead by his side and after years without contact, Kai returns, broken and on death’s door. If Abel wants to fulfill their destiny and merge their packs, he’ll need to look past what he saw and trust his heart.

About Cardeno C.

Cardeno C. -logoCardeno C. – CC to friends – is a hopeless romantic who wants to add a lot of happiness and a few “awwws” into a reader’s day. Writing is a nice break from real life as a corporate type and volunteer work with gay rights organizations. Cardeno’s stories range from sweet to intense, contemporary to paranormal, long to short, but they always include strong relationships and walks into the happily-ever- after sunset.

Cardeno’s Home, Family, and Mates series have received awards from Love Romances and More Golden Roses, Rainbow Awards, the Goodreads M/M Romance Group, and various reviewers. But even more special to CC are heartfelt reactions from readers, like, “You bring joy and love and make it part of the every day.”

Review: This short story duo from Cardeno C is wonderful. In reading I’ve never been driven to put Cardeno C on my “must read always” list, but she has definitely gone that way for my audio list. Her stories translate fantastically into audio, especially when the narration is superb, as it was hear with the always great John Solo and Nick J Russo narrating a story each.

The stories are 2 holiday shorts, revolving around Hanukah.

The first story, In Another Life, is guaranteed to rip your heart out before attempting to heal us. Honestly, I loved this story so much I’d love a follow up. This story is too good to ruin but I’m just going to say that Shiloh is an amazing character. He is strong and funny and a life altering decision actually changed his outlook on what exactly there is out there for him in his future. Be warned – this one may have you crying on public transport.

The second story is Eight Days. After having your heart ripped out and still recovering from In Another Life, listening to Eight Days goes a hell of a long way to mending your shattered feelings. This is the story of lifelong friends, Maccabe and Josh, who feel attraction but are driven apart by one MC’s insecurities. Those lose touch when Maccabe notices that Josh, over the years, doesn’t turn up to their combined family gatherings for Hanukah. When the truth comes out, Maccabe is ready to fix his mistakes and take the man that is his.

Review: This is a nice quick audio for times when you don’t have time or energy to invest into a longer book – especially if you are like me and you find it difficult to actually turn off your audible app until you finish. I have found that through audio I have become quite a fan of Cardeno C’s work, whereas when I tried reading some of her books, I don’t know, I suppose things were a bit flat to me.

But onto All of Me: first and foremost, Robert M Clarke does a fantastic narration. This is the first time I’ve heard him and I was thoroughly impressed. He did well to bring feeling and the growly moods of werewolves. About the first half is about one MC’s pain from the past, caused by the man who is meant to be his mate. I felt every damn bit of it.

The story itself is quite simple to follow, and in many ways it is also pretty easy to figure out. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the book despite the predictability.  Abel and Kai are werewolves and have been born to become the alphas of their respective packs. Their parents, who were great friends, also made some sort of mystical deal so that their first borns would become mates. That works out well because Abel and Kai develop a close bond anyway and they count down the days to when they came cement their bond.

The guts of the story happens some years after things went to shit – Abel is the narrating character and it seems that things were never as he had perceived. Although, to be fair, he had good reason to be angry at his mate. I won’t give anything away because, as I said earlier, the plot itself is predictable (as in I knew where it was going within the first chapter). But don’t let that deter you, it is a great audio if you’re short on time and would love to hear a romance between 2 alpha shifters.
