It’s Complicated

Tucker Springs 07

by

L.A. Witt

After their umpteenth breakup, Brad Sweeney and Jeff Hayden are living apart and starting over from scratch. The morning after a promising first date, they’re more optimistic than ever that they can make it work this time . . . until Jeff’s ex-wife and business partner calls to announce she’s pregnant with Jeff’s baby. Brad’s already competing with a demanding business for Jeff’s time. Now there’s a baby on the way, and worse, he’s afraid Jeff is still carrying a torch for the woman who’s carrying his child.

Jeff is desperately trying to keep his life together, but before he can even get his head around the news that he’s going to be a father, his ex announces that she wants to leave Tucker Springs. Now he either has to take over her role at the shop while ferrying the baby back and forth from Denver, or move the business—and himself—with her.

Brad and Jeff knew reconciliation wouldn’t be easy, but they’re rapidly running out of room for compromise. And sooner or later, something has to give.

It’s Complicated is available NOW from Riptide Publishing.

The Curse of Tucker Springs

Did y’all know Tucker Springs is cursed?

It all started back when I was writing Where Nerves End. As many of you may remember, that book involves Jason and a shoulder injury that won’t let him sleep. Seth finally convinces Jason to go to Michael for some acupuncture.

I based Jason’s shoulder injury loosely on my own. Reason being, I know what that type of injury feels like, and can write with some authority about the major and minor effects of such a thing. Now, I’ve had a lot of acupuncture in my life, but at the time I was writing the book, it had been a few years, and my memory was a bit foggy. I had just moved to Omaha and didn’t yet have an acupuncturist. Because I wanted the treatments to be fairly accurate, I found a doc and interviewed him.

I wrote the book, sent it off, and received edits. As it happened, I received the edits just before I left for Maui to attend my cousin’s wedding. Though I was on vacation, the edits still needed to be done, so I devoted the first few hours of each day to working on them. After a few days, they were finished, and I sent them back.

Then my husband and I went kayaking. Long story short, my kayak unloaded me, and while I was pulling myself back into it, something in my shoulder… shifted. And then it hurt. Holy Ned, it hurt. The best part? I had to paddle back to shore. Against an ocean current. For two miles.

Needless to say, my shoulder was a mess after that. As soon as I got back to Nebraska, I did the only thing I could think of: I called the acupuncturist who’d helped with Where Nerves End. Lo and behold… I needed the same treatment he’d recommended for Jason.

This was a mildly amusing coincidence – more amusing once my shoulder wasn’t in constant pain – but then things got a little weird.

In October of 2013, my third Tucker Springs book, After the Fall, was released. In it, Nathan and his horse take a tumble, and he winds up with his leg in a cast.

Hand to God, folks, the day that book was released, my husband came home with his leg in a cast.

So now I’m a little nervous.

Because It’s Complicated involves someone getting pregnant.

Crap.

About L.A.

L.A. Witt is an abnormal M/M romance writer currently living in the glamorous and ultra-futuristic metropolis of Omaha, Nebraska, with her husband, two cats, and a disembodied penguin brain that communicates with her telepathically. In addition to writing smut and disturbing the locals, L.A. is said to be working with the US government to perfect a genetic modification that will allow humans to survive indefinitely on Corn Pops and beef jerky. This is all a cover, though, as her primary leisure activity is hunting down her arch nemesis, erotica author Lauren Gallagher, who is also said to be lurking somewhere in Omaha.

L. A.’s backlist is available on her website, and updates (as well as random thoughts and the odd snarky comment) can be found on her blog or on Twitter (@GallagherWitt).

Review: Emotions run wild in this latest installment of the Tucker Springs series. Brad and Jeff are in the on again phase of there on/off again relationship that spans over several years. They love each other immensely, but their explosive arguments followed by cavernous silence have caused them to separate. As much as they both want their relationship to work, can they find that balance that lies somewhere between smoking hot sex and damnable misery?

It’s Complicated is definitely a fitting title! I wonder if alternate or working titles like ‘Train Wreck’ or ‘Cluster Fuck’ were considered. Brad and Jeff are trying to reconcile after so many failed attempts to make their relationship work. They just love each other so much, neither one is willing to give up and walk away for good, even if that is what it will take to make it work. Love, sex and commitment are all working components for them. It’s the lack of communication, quick draw tempers and the resulting fights that ensue that are the issues. Just when they think that this time they just may be able to make a go of it without all the drama, Jeff learns his ex-wife is pregnant. During one of Brad and Jeff’s many break ups, Jeff and Christine shared a night of convenient sex and now they are going to be parents. Can Brad and Jeff’s already extremely fragile fresh start withstand this latest curve ball?

While the writing is excellent as usual for Witt, these two made me want to bang my head against a wall. Two steps forward, three steps back. There was never any doubt about their love for one another, but a passionate relationship is not always a good one, case in point. I loved the beginning and the end of this story, all the angst in the middle, not so much. Jeff was not always a likable character but in the end he pulled through and made up for all his mistakes. I loved the dynamics of this family they are all three (Brad, Jeff and Christine) trying to build for the child they are all fixing to have. Because, lets face it, if Brad and Jeff are going to be together, Brad will be a father figure to the baby. I am a sucker for soul mate stories though, and Brad and Jeff are definitely soul mates. They just need to learn the right way to fight.

Overall this was a well written novel with all the aspects fans have come to expect from Witt. Drama, passion, extreme love and sharp angles. And although this story is an addition to a great series, I think it could be read as a stand alone as well. Worth the read, especially if you are a fan of LA Witt.
