Dax: My life ended six years ago. No, really. I was dead on the side of the road following a gruesome motorcycle accident. From what I’ve been told, it’s only because of one stubborn man that I have another chance to make something of my life. I no longer hate him for screwing up what I thought I wanted. I want to thank him. NEED to tell him what his actions mean to me.

Now, I’m headed back to the town I’ve never set foot in even though it’s a huge part of my life. I’m not thrilled about that, but the job offers haven’t exactly been flowing in. They’ll probably think I’m crazy, because there’s no way I won’t be able to look at every guy I walk past, wondering if he’s the one who saved me.

Michael: My entire life, I wanted to save lives. I’d earned a full-ride scholarship and had been accepted to med schools across the country. I was so close to making those dreams a reality until the night held a dying man in my arms. I’ve never been able to get the images of his lifeless body caked in mud out of my head. Even when the paramedics tried to take over trying to save him, I couldn’t let go. I never let go. Eventually, my guilt over not doing more cost me everything but my son. And now, I worry I’ll lose him if I don’t get it together.

I’ve often thought that if I could find him, maybe I could get some closure and finally get my life back on track. Now he’s here and I’m more of a mess than ever. Once the truth comes out, will he keep trying to save me or will he realize that it’s too late?

Exclusive Interview

Are your characters real people?

Of course they are! They take on their own lives, fight for space in my head, and at times, they’re some of my best friends.

What do you do when you’re not writing?

I’ve recently picked up a variety of hobbies, trying to figure out what I want to do in my downtime. It used to be writing, but now that that’s my job, it’s not really a relaxing activity. Currently, quilting and photography are the two things I love the most.

When did you write your first book?

The first book I wrote that saw the light of day was in 2012. I’d also written a book in 2008, but that was the victim of a catastrophic hard drive failure. That’s probably for the best, because from what I can remember, it was a freaking mess!

Are you a plotter or a pantser?

I had been a die hard pantser for a long time. I loved the way an idea would pop into my head and I could just sit down and start writing. Unfortunately, that led to a lot of extra work, deleted words, and major changes after I’d written most of the story. The best example of that was Wild Pitch. I’d written seventy thousand words, starting with a particular incident. Then, I realized that wasn’t the beginning of their story at all, but it was actually the big conflict at the end. That particular scene survived, but then I had to craft everything around it. Now, I’m a combination of the two. I plot out the rough sketch of my story and then see where the story takes me.

About Sloan

Sloan Johnson Author PicSloan Johnson is a big city girl trapped in a country girl’s life. While she longs for the hustle and bustle of New York City or Las Vegas, she hasn’t yet figured out how to sit on the deck with her morning coffee, watching the deer and wild turkeys in the fields while surrounded by concrete and glass.

When she was three, her parents received their first call from the principal asking them to pick her up from school. Apparently, if you aren’t enrolled, you can’t attend classes, even in Kindergarten. The next week, she was in preschool and started plotting her first story soon after.

Later in life, her parents needed to do something to help their socially awkward, uncoordinated child come out of her shell and figured there was no better place than a bar on Wednesday nights. It’s a good thing they did because this is where she found her love of reading and writing. Who needs socialization when you can sit alone in your bedroom with a good book?

Now, Sloan is a tattooed mom with a mohawk and two kids. She’s been kicked out of the PTA in two school districts and is no longer asked to help with fundraisers because she’s been known to lose herself with a good book and forget she has somewhere to be.

Review: Sloan has always managed to give a reader a story that will draw them in and keep them captivated. I have enjoyed reading her stories although this one I am not really sure. It just seemed to be missing something to be perfect but I couldn’t put my hands on it. It was well written with a lot of depth to it. The story itself was very entertaining and a bit of a tear jerker.

This is a story about a man having a second chance at life. It is a very touching story about how someone can turn their lives around but it also shows how one can cause harm in their lives without the meaning to. It has a lot of heart in the story and to me has a little life lesson hidden in the story. This story is meant to be soft, tender, loving and sweet. She pulled this off.

Dax had been injured in a motorcycle accident that almost cost him his life. Now he has come back to the town that he really had not wanted to. However he wanted to thank the one man who saves his life. Michael has had a wonderful life but it was mixed with the pain of losing his wife. He was now raising his son the best he could do. Now Dax wanted to not only thank him but help him. Feelings start slowly with these two but soon they find themselves in love.

Now for me it is hard to see how Michael went from straight to gay, but it turned out perfect for this story. The subject of how Dax was injured and almost dying is a tender subject, but only because a friend’s fiancé just wrecked his cycle a few days ago and will be in the hospital for a very long time healing. It actually made this story more real for me. Then there is the fact that these two guys are just perfect for each other, a bonus for me.

I enjoyed reading this story and would definitely be interested in more stories from this author. I wished the ending was a bit more however it doesn’t take away from the story. I would definitely recommend this book.
