Blurb: A drifter since his teens, Jimmy Dorsett has no home and no hope. What he does have is a duffel bag, a lot of stories, and a junker car. Then one cold desert night he picks up a hitchhiker and ends up with something more: a letter from a dying man to the son he hasn’t seen in years.

On a quest to deliver the letter, Jimmy travels to Rattlesnake, a small town nestled in the foothills of the California Sierras. The centerpiece of the town is the Rattlesnake Inn, where the bartender is handsome former cowboy Shane Little. Sparks fly, and when Jimmy’s car gives up the ghost, Shane gets him a job as handyman at the inn.

Both within the community of Rattlesnake and in Shane’s arms, Jimmy finds an unaccustomed peace. But it can’t be a lasting thing. The open road continues to call, and surely Shane—a strong, proud man with a painful past and a difficult present—deserves better than a lying vagabond who can’t stay put for long.

Review: The first line has you hooked… It started with a dead man… all the way to the very last line. I couldn’t put it down.

Jimmy Dorset lives on the road. He travels as far as his clunker car will take him, stays until he has enough money to get on the road again. He is never in one place long enough to make a home or life. He feels no one wants him or needs him. Then one day he picks up an old hitchhiker that wants to go to Rattlesnake to try to make amends with his son. When Tom dies Jimmy sees so much in him he decides to deliver Tom’s letter in person to Shane Little.

Shane is a bartender of the Rattlesnake Saloon in his Aunts motel. Shane has his own story though very different from Jimmy’s they are two souls meant for each other.

Jimmy had no idea picking up a lonely, cold hitchhiker would change his life so drastically.

This book gave me chills from opening till I finally finished it (in one sitting). It is such a poignant story. Powerful with some soft undertones and I found it very romantic as well.

I adored both characters. Jimmy the loner–I still loved him and felt so deeply for him. Who couldn’t love Shane? He is the town’s sweetheart. Everyone loves him and is protective of him, even though he isn’t perfect either. I think I loved most the fact these two characters are not perfect in any way. Not looks or personality.

Though Jimmy fights his feelings tooth and nail, sometimes fate is stronger than your own will. I will admit I shed a few tears along the way. This book is in my favorite list of this year as long as Jimmy and Shane.

If you love modern stories set in old-west towns, broken men, some angst, romance, and some moderate, sensual, mansex this is definitely for you.

I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good M/M romance and something a little different.
