Ringed Love

(Sentries 06)
by

Elizabeth Noble

New Colorado Protectorate fell with the assassination of Chancellor Clarke. Like many others, Todd and Nick Ruger left the land of their birth and made a home to the north in Yellowknife. Their world was ever changing. The time came to say a sad farewell to some of their friends and loved ones, but they were taken in with open arms by others and in turn offered shelter to yet more. Through the years they remained steadfast in their duty as sentries to protect and defend those that needed it the most.

Time marches on but through it all they hold each other dear and cherish the love they’ve shared. There are still angry ghosts, Windigos and water spirits to contend with. Their lives change, offering them new roles. When the time comes, they do what sentries have done for generations prior and teach others the skills to carry on as sentries. The Rugers lives were rich and their hearts full with their devotion and love for each other. The tradition of the sentries lived on forever. It was the legacy of Todd and Nick Ruger. That was the way it was always meant to be.

Elizabeth Noble On the Cover of Ringed Love

Hello, I’m Elizabeth Noble, author of Ringed Love and the Sentries series. First, I have to give a big virtual hug to Pixie *Pixie hugs Elizabeth back* and MM Good Book Reviews for hosting the unveiling of this cover!

Sentries started five years ago with Marked Yours which was released May 23, 2011. I’m lucky to be able to say that Paul Richmond has created the covers for all six books. He’s created covers filled with rich textures and wonderful symbolism for not only each book, but the whole series. The series begins when the two main characters, Todd and Nick are young men in their twenties. They grow together throughout the series and each cover shows a part of their journey perfectly.

The cover of Ringed Love is no different. Readers of the series will see, yet again he’s created a cover that pulls important elements from not just this book, but the whole series.  There is the night sky and stars, always important to Todd and Nick. Their sentry symbols which Paul designed based on my description in the first book and, of course, Todd and Nick themselves, who are always reminding each other and the rest of us: We’re in this together because that’s the way it was always meant to be.

Thank you for stopping by for a look. I’ve been very excited to share this cover that I think is simply breathtaking. Tell me, what do you like to see in covers from a series?

Enjoy the excerpt and everyone commenting will be entered into a drawing for their choice of any eBook off my backlist. Don’t forget to leave me an email so I can contact the winner. Today is a Friday and I’ll leave this contest open for the weekend. I’ll return Monday evening and pick a winner.

Excerpt

“It—they wanted me,” Nick whispered. “Like they kn-knew I-I was th-the one who sensed th-them.”

“It’s okay,” Todd said softly. He pulled Nick against him and held him tightly, rubbing his back with one hand. His other hand cupped Nick’s head. Todd’s grip strengthened even more when Nick pulled in a wet, broken breath and shuddered it out again.

Nick pressed his cheek to Todd’s shoulder. “It was personal.” He managed to get his arms around Todd’s back and hang on.

Todd kissed Nick’s cheek and tucked him in even more closely, murmuring, “It’s okay. You’re okay.” His voice trembled and cracked.

Shifting closer, Nick pulled in a few more deep breaths. His body finally quieted, and fear was replaced by the comfort and security Todd offered. A few minutes later, Todd leaned back a bit and held Nick’s face in both hands.

“You’re okay,” he repeated, more firmly this time.

Nodding, Nick managed a weak “Yes.”

“Let’s get your jeans off and clean that gash on your leg.” Todd helped Nick shimmy out of his pants before reaching for the water, soap, and washcloth again.

“Does it need stitches?”

Todd snorted a laugh. “You’re the doctor. You tell me.”

Nick squinted at his leg, scrutinizing it for a few seconds. After Todd cleaned off the dried blood that was caked across his flesh, Nick saw it was a narrow, long scrape. More like road rash than a cut. He shrugged. “Nothing to suture. Bandage would be good.”

Tapping the back of Nick’s leg, Todd said, “Lift up.”

Obediently Nick bent his knee, and a minute later, his thigh was bandaged. He offered Todd an anemic smile. “That works. Feels better.”

Todd put all their supplies away and leaned out of the back of the wagon to dump the water. Then he ran one hand over Nick’s head and pulled him in, kissing his forehead. “You sit tight, and I’ll find us some food and get you some water to drink.”

“I smell coffee brewing,” Nick said and sighed.

“Maybe whoever is making it will share. If not, I’ll make us some.” He brushed his lips tenderly over Nick’s forehead again, then patted his shoulder before climbing out of the wagon. “You’re safe. We both are. Get some rest.”

About Elizabeth

Elizabeth Noble started telling stories before she actually knew how to write, and her family was very happy when she learned to put words on a page. Those words turned into fan fiction that turned into a genuine love of M/M romance fiction. Being able to share her works with Dreamspinner is really a dream come true. She has a real love for a good mystery complete with murder and twisty plots as well as all things sci-fi, futuristic, and supernatural and a bit of an unnatural interest in a super-volcano in Wyoming.

Elizabeth has three grown children and is now happily owned by an adorable mixed breed canine princess and one tabby cat. She lives in her native northeast Ohio, the perfect place for gardening, winter and summer sports (go Tribe!). When she’s not writing she’s working as a veterinary nurse, so don’t be surprised to see her men with a pet or three who are a very big part of their lives.

Three of Elizabeth’s books have received Honorable Mentions in the Rainbow Awards.

  1. A new series for me. The cover should be related but not the same.

  2. This series has the most beautiful covers and this new one fits right in!

I like series covers to have some sort of continuity yet also show what is changing with the story arc and to give an idea of the individual story.

    Thanks!

  3. I haven’t read any book of this series, but it sounds really good, and I would love to. Thank you for the chance

  4. I like covers to reflect something about the books in the series. They don’t necessarily have to be the MCs, but something about the book/series that makes sense.
