Ringed Love

(Sentries 06)
by

Elizabeth Noble

New Colorado Protectorate fell with the assassination of Chancellor Clarke. Like many others, Todd and Nick Ruger left the land of their birth and made a home to the north in Yellowknife. Their world was ever changing. The time came to say a sad farewell to some of their friends and loved ones, but they were taken in with open arms by others and in turn offered shelter to yet more. Through the years they remained steadfast in their duty as sentries to protect and defend those that needed it the most.

Time marches on but through it all they hold each other dear and cherish the love they’ve shared. There are still angry ghosts, Windigos and water spirits to contend with. Their lives change, offering them new roles. When the time comes, they do what sentries have done for generations prior and teach others the skills to carry on as sentries. The Rugers lives were rich and their hearts full with their devotion and love for each other. The tradition of the sentries lived on forever. It was the legacy of Todd and Nick Ruger. That was the way it was always meant to be.

Blurb: Todd and Nick Ruger are alive and on the run in the Yellowknife Protectorate, but maybe not for long. After narrowly escaping New Colorado, where they were implicated in the assassination of Chancellor Shaffer, they’re running out of steam: Todd is gravely ill and Nick’s injured. Just when it seems like the harsh winter will get the best of them, they find refuge with a doctor in the isolated town of Elk’s Ridge.

On the surface, Elk’s Ridge seems the ideal place to rebuild their lives. Nick begins training as the doctor’s apprentice, and Todd works in a lumberyard until they’re recovered enough to return to their duties as Sentries. They make friends, forge a new life, and most importantly, there’s no sign of anyone from New Colorado.

They should have known it was too good to be true. Victor Raleigh, the new Vice Chancellor of New Colorado, knows all about Nick’s psychic abilities, and he wants them in his corner. When Nick is betrayed and captured, Todd sees no alternative but to head back to the war zone to rescue him. But will Nick be the same man Todd loves after Raleigh’s pet psychic vampire is through with him?

Review: Todd and Nick are looking for somewhere to live, where they don’t have to worry about someone recognizing Nick. Just as they find a new town, Todd becomes ill and Nick struggles to get him help. As they settle in, Nick has made an enemy and he soon finds himself in the hands of Raleigh. It’s a tough time with only his dreams of Todd, but the psychic vampire is a hard one to battle. Can Nick hold on until Todd comes for him or will Raleigh’s hold prove too tight?

Todd and Nick are back. They are on the run after the circumstances from Together Bound, so yeah, you have to read books one and two (bwahahahaha). But, Todd is falling ill (although he says allergies) and they are trying to find somewhere to live. Nick and Todd finally settle in a town, but trouble follows them and a spiteful person makes Nick’s life hell. When Nick is taken, Todd follows as quickly as he can, but it could be too late to undo the damage.

Whoot. Whoot. Now, boys and girls, I have told you that you need to read both previous books and that is so you can fully appreciate the world we find ourselves in. it is set in the future, after a disaster that leaves mankind reverting back to the old ways, but psychic powers emerge, monsters come out and ghosts linger and slavery comes back. If you have read the previous books then you know all about Todd and Nick’s relationship and what they do. if you haven’t, *scowl*, then Todd and Nick are master and slave, a bonded pair, mates and love each other to death and they work, or worked for the New Colorado Protectorate as Sentries protecting the surrounding area. Okay, happy now? *looks around and nods* Good.  So Nick and Todd have a solid relationship, which is pushed to its boundaries and stretch it to its limits in this book.

This is a really well written novel, which holds your interest from the start, as we see the struggle to find a new home; with Nick’s nightmares and fears, with being wanted men, with someone sniffing around Todd, with kidnappings, escape, rescue, betrayal, more escapes, nasty baddies, feelings of guilt and the total love that Nick and Todd have for each other. I am fully expecting there to be a number four story, because this ending just left me with the expectation that there will be more adventures for Todd and Nick.

So, if you love post-apocalyptic, futuristic, adventure, danger, hot loving, psychic powers, guilt, angst, and an expectation of more to come then this is definitely the book and series for you.

Blurb: Todd and Nick Ruger have settled into their life and work, the master/slave bond in New Colorado tying them together in a sacred rite of service, protection, and—in their case—love. But out of the blue, Todd receives a letter from the vice-chancellor of New Colorado threatening their bond, demanding ownership of Nick under eminent domain.

It turns out Vice-Chancellor Clarke desperately needs the help of the sentries, especially Nick, to investigate a problem involving the Chancellor. With New Colorado on the verge of war with West Caldera, a rift in the government would be disastrous. Todd and Nick agree to help, and Nick enters the orphan slave compound while Todd joins the Estate security force.

They don’t expect the danger they discover. Now the target of an unimaginable threat, Nick and Todd will face terrors that lead to murder, imprisonment, and the threat of separation forever as the hopeless battle escalates into full-scale war.

Review: I would advise that before you read this you read the first Sentries book Marked Yours as you get a better feel of the world building and the bond between Todd and Nick. This is set in the future three hundred years after a cataclysmic natural disaster. Nick is near to panicking when he receives a letter demanding that he hand over Todd, his slave, his lover, his mate.  He just wants to grab Todd and head for the hills but he does his duty and visits the Vice-Chancellor and finds that he needs Todd for an undercover mission. They both go undercover and when they discover the truth it could very well mean their lives. When the mission is over neither one of them will be safe.

This is an incredible bit of futuristic fantasy/paranormal that draws you in. You really feel for these two as they don’t want to be separated.  they both also feel guilt for what happens.   Blaming themselves. Nick for not being able to protect Todd like he promised and Todd for not being able to stop the thing that is the Chancellor from touching him.  There is some misunderstanding between the two of them but what you do not miss even from the very beginning is how much these two really love each other and you certainly can’t miss the wonderful love scenes between these two.

Fantastically written storyline, brilliant plot and an ending which could mean more to come from these two incredible men. There is one slight kink scene and a few times that Todd gets all Alpha on Nick.

I would say that this is for those of you who love science-fiction, futuristic, fantasy/paranormal, post-apocalypse, hot sex and a really good story.
