Blurb: Like a well-aged whiskey, master distiller and old-money entrepreneur Malone Kensington is elegant and refined. Unfortunately he’s also a perfectionist who is more dedicated to the suc-cess of his generations-old company than his own love life.

That company needs a public spokesman.

What Colton Hale lacks in sophistication, he more than makes up for with the charisma that’s al-lowed him to survive on the street from a young age and charm his way into the lucrative – if overwhelming – public position at the Kensington Distillery. When Mal takes Colt under his wing, hoping to polish off his rough edges, opposites attract and a passionate romance blossoms de-spite the differences in age and background. But can it survive a Kensington Board of Directors who believe Colt is nothing but a gold digger and a kidnapper determined to profit from the love of Mal’s life – dead or alive?

Review: Whiskey and Moonshine is standalone romance set in Tennessee, obviously amongst whiskey and moonshine stills by Elizabeth Noble. This was published as part of Dreamspun Desires, which is always a plus for me. The fact that John Solo is the narrator is another plus for me.

I really haven’t heard too many books narrated by John Solo lately. However, it is always awesome to hear the man perform. He is one of those narrators that has a voice that suits so many different genres of romances and different types of characters. I love how Solo manages to convey the emotions of both Mal and Colt, the two MCs. I always enjoy his performances and this is no different. It enhanced my experience and my enjoyment of the book. Overall, an excellent narration that I cannot fault.

This is a completely charming and sweet romance. The story focuses on the Kensington Distillery which produces whiskey and moonshine, and the very sexy man who is dedicated to his family’s company and making it more accessible for the younger generations that is the focus of this story. To do this it is decided that they need to employ a young, passionate person to be the PR face of the company.

The story opens with Colton Hale, he’s twenty-four and has been living on the streets of Toledo since he was fifteen. The most recent run in with violent thugs has Colton ready to make a new start, so he gets the first bus that will get him out and his new adventure starts. The bus ride brings him to the Kensington family’s whiskey distillery. They’re a rich and hugely successful distillery in Tennessee. Colt manages to get himself a job and just six weeks later shows his ingenuity and passion for his work that leads him to another job for the company.

Mal, the head of the Kensington family company which had been previously run by his mother, sees a lot of potential in Colton. There’s the potential Colton has to help sell the whiskey brand on social media and help the company branch out, but he has to hold back his attraction for the man, even though he knows Colt’s shady past. The two men work well together and Mal decides to use the age gap between them as the excuse he needs to mentally force himself from pining for his social media face of the company.

I’ve read this story before and while I remember liking it, I forgot about the awesomeness that was multiple references to the Joss Whedon TV showed Firefly. Because I’m a nerd and a browncoat and the fact that it features so prominently in a book I enjoyed was shiny. I’m a total sucker for Firefly. Because of that I see the name Mal and I think Captain Malcolm Reynolds – though I can never say I was disappointed to realise that this Mal is short for Malone. But it is sweet and smart Colt, who hasn’t had the best 9 or so years of his life getting into Firefly into the book that got to me. I really enjoyed the imagery conjured when Colt mentions the last line in the theme song, relating it to the backdrop of the rambling Kensington distillery/estate. But the best part, when everything seems to be falling apart Colt uses a Firefly reference to get Mal to help him.

This was a really enjoyable story. The characters were relatable and felt accessible to the reader, or at least to me. Again, the Firefly fan in me was totally appeased. While this isn’t actually set in a boardroom this is still at heart a story about a powerful CEO finding love in an unexpected place. So, I suppose if you like any romance set around vineyards and in boardrooms then this is one to enjoy. There is also an interesting celebrity element, where Colt navigates the world of social media and gains fame as the face of the Kensington brand. Others may also enjoy Colt’s storyline which is very much a rags to riches tale.

Review: Whiskey and Moonshine is a really charming romance set in Tennessee, obviously amongst whiskey and moonshine stills by Elizabeth Noble. Noble is an author who is certainly on my radar and in my mind as an author whose style and stories I enjoy, and combined with the fact that this is part of Dreamspun Desires line, I was totally down to reading this book.

The story may revolve around whiskey and moonshine, but it is one particular company that is run by a very sexy man who is dedicated to his family’s company and making it more accessible for the younger generations that is the focus of this story. I say that and it sounds like we’re talking about an old guy – we’re not, he’s thirty-six, but the company has been in the family for three generations and it does need to catch up to the current generation.

The story opens with Colton Hale, he’s twenty-four and has been living on the streets of Toledo since he was fifteen, which was when he had been kicked out of home for being gay.

Alright. I have to do this. I’m about to nerd out and dedicate a paragraph gushing about how awesome it was to read a book that appreciates the Joss Whedon TV showed Firefly. Because I’m a browncoat and the fact that it features so prominently in a book I enjoyed was shiny. So, if you’re not a fan and didn’t appreciate words such as browncoat or shiny, perhaps switch off for the next paragraph.

Right, I’m going to admit. I’m a total sucker for Firefly. Because of that I see the name Mal and I think Captain Malcolm Reynolds – though I can never say I was disappointed to realise that this Mal is short for Malone. Whatever. But the best part, when everything seems to be falling apart Colt uses a Firefly reference to get Colt to help him.

This was a really enjoyable story. The characters were relatable and felt accessible to the reader, or at least to me. I’m not sure how to go about recommendations. I mean, it isn’t actually set in a boardroom with a powerful CEO finding love in unexpected places, but this is definitely an employee to lover romance and Mal is certainly a powerful (sexy-as-sin) CEO. So, I suppose if you like any romance set around vineyards (I’ve read a few of those of late) then this is another one to enjoy. There is also an interesting celebrity element, where Colt navigates the world of social media and gains fame as the face of the Kensington brand. Also, in terms of Colt this is a rags to riches romance too. As already mentioned, Firefly fans will be tickled to see love for the awesome show.

Blurb: The coffee is rich. Hayden isn’t. But Neal doesn’t need to know that – yet.

Hayden Owens is just your typical graduate student working his way through school as a barista for the Owens Coffee Company – no relation. But he keeps the “no relation” part to himself when he meets dashing architect Neal Kirchner, a successful older man from an old-money family. Hayden doesn’t exactly lie, but he figures it can’t hurt for Neal to believe he’s a rich kid. After all, Hayden doesn’t want Neal thinking he’s a gold digger.

The closer they become, the harder it gets for Hayden to come clean. Something always seems to get in the way. When a company bankruptcy and a jilted, vindictive woman threatens to expose his charade, Hayden thinks it’s all gone down the drain. Luckily, Neal is ready with some innocent trickery of his own.

Review: Elizabeth Noble is relatively new author to me, I think other than listening to the audio for this book some couple months ago, I’m not aware of any other of the author’s works. At least on the Dreamspinner Press website there are only three works available and one of them won’t be out until December. Regardless, first off I’m going to say that this is one of those books which I found more enjoyable as an ebook as opposed to listening to the audio. I can’t put a finger on the reason why, but there you have it.

Admittedly, the plot rather simple and predictable. It’s one of those types of books that I recommend for people who want something easy and relaxing but don’t expect too much in terms of literary excellence. It’s a great book to just relax and escape with. I read a very intense book last night which I absolutely adored, even though the emotions were high I found this to be the perfect come down book after that experience.

High Test is a Cinderella – Cinderfella? – tale. Hayden Owens is struggling to get himself through college where he is a graduate student trying to complete his PhD. All he wants to do is graduate and design cars that are engineering works of art. When he is forced to attend college function, schmoozing with movers and shakers ready to donate Hayden meeting Neal Kirchner. Neal is older than Hayden but their connection is instant. When Hayden leaves at the end of the night so that he can get the last bus, he realizes too late that he forgot to get Neal’s number. This first night was the start of confusion that Hayden finds too hard to get the courage to admit to Neal that he doesn’t come from a rich family. This is the main plot of the book and while there is some angst and drama, it’s a mild and simple book.

As a side note one thing that I really liked here was that Hayden was a PhD candidate (only directly referenced once or twice) and despite this his intelligence was put right to the background of the whole story. From experience, I know that we do tend to be completely obsessed with our work, but the whole antisocial nerd is a tired stereotype. The other thing that I really liked that while this would be classed as a May-December plot, the whole age difference is only referred to a couple times. I also find the whole age gap thing a bit tiresome, especially when a big is made about age gaps few than ten years. Admittedly this is a larger age gap, but I was all for the romance.

This is a simple, fun and sweet romance, as I said before, it’s a bit of a Cinderella story and if that’s your thing, go for it.

Review: Elizabeth Noble is relatively new author to me, no other previous books by the author leap to mind. Likewise, Colin Darcy is a relatively new narrator for me, I think I’ve heard his narration perhaps once or twice before.

I enjoyed both the narration and the writing style, both elements together made for a fairly pleasing audiobook experience for me. However, I found the plot rather simple and predictable. It’s one of those types of books that I recommend for people who want something easy and relaxing but don’t expect too much in terms of literary excellence. It’s a great book to just relax and escape with.

I wouldn’t call High Test a rags to riches tale, more like a Cinderella tale. This book is good for those that want a simple, Cinderella type story with a sweet HEA.

As a side note one thing that I really liked here was that Hayden was a PhD candidate (only directly referenced once or twice) and despite this his intelligence was put right to the background of the whole story. From experience, I know that we do tend to be completely obsessed with our own projects and theses because we have very little time away from our projects, but the whole antisocial nerd thing is a tired stereotype.

Review: The gang is on a mission to discover the whereabouts of a vicious criminal. In the process of tracking him down we get a glimpse of the characters met and the circumstances in some cases. The nature of the crimes is devious yet brilliant and the culprit came as no shock to me. However his connection to some in the group did.

I was stunned speechless by how well written, intriguing and thoroughly captivating this addition was. The characters were all engaging, determined and hell-bent on finding the man responsible for so much mayhem. The investigation itself and how Blair, Jonas, Declan and Lucas discovered who was behind the acts was mind blowing.

I loved how well these men worked together and protected one another in the face of danger. Chocked full of suspense, mystery, danger and drama this book packed a punch until the very end. I am highly anticipating more in this entertaining and riveting series as I can’t get enough of this series.

I highly recommend this story and series for all to read.

Tyler McCall has made mistakes. He was a teacher—before he fell for a student in his school. That misstep cost him his job and everything he’d worked for. He moved to the Black Hills of Wyoming to start his life over, and he’s happy working at the Big Rock Inn near Devils Tower.

Linden Bourne, a no-nonsense FBI agent Tyler had met before, returns to Wyoming hot on the trail of a killer. The previously unexplored attraction between them grows—which is good considering they’ll be spending a lot of time together when a blizzard strands them at the inn. Cut off from the outside world, with no power, they’ll need to rely on their wits and each other to survive.

Especially when it becomes clear they’re not alone—and the danger they face comes from more than the elements.

Circles series blurb:

Every life is a circle, and sometimes those circles connect and overlap in unexpected ways, even if the patterns they form aren’t obvious at first glance.

Past and present, from the wilderness to small towns and cities, the greedy and evil seek to exploit the vulnerable. The brave men of law enforcement fight to protect the innocent and punish the guilty—but they’re not alone. Men from all walks of life are called to stand beside them and solve these mysteries. Along the way, lives intertwine as couples are reminded that one thing makes the struggle worthwhile: love.

Shorty’s Review: ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

This is the first book in The Vampire Guard series. I did not know how I’d feel about this book due to this is the first one I have read by this author but man was I surprised. It had everything I could want in a story and then some. Mystery, deception, hot paranormal men, action, suspense and adventure. This story wraps the reader in a world that is anything but ordinary.

I really enjoyed getting to know the MC’s of this book and their partners. Jonas is a vampire and a cop and stops at nothing to solve a crime. Blair, a vampire, technician and Jonas’ partner seemed unsure of himself except when it came to solving a crime, though I understood as he was still in the ‘newbie phase’ as I call it.

Declan, a vampire, was one of the most mysterious of the characters. That was due to his work before. It added a level of danger and anticipation that I enjoyed. He seemed nice but yet cold as ice when the situation was necessary. Lucas is a werewolf, medical examiner. Declan’s partner and Jack’s best friend.

I loved the interactions between these men and was stunned as to how well they all worked together. I think that the group that wanted to recruit them could have just asked them rather than lie and kidnap them. The mystery of the book was well written and riveting. I enjoyed the folklore and legend involved and was astounded as to what actually happened.

This book will captivate you from the start and have you reading until the very end to find out the end result. With brilliantly detailed scenes that leave you holding your breath to the actual details of the crimes this book was a winner to me if I could give it 10 stars I would.

I am so glad I had the opportunity to read such an amazing story. I am looking forward to reading more of this series. Highly recommended.

Pixie’s Review: ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

I fully concur with Shorty’s review; Elizabeth Noble has, yet again, written an amazing story that you can lose yourself in. The characters shine yet again (The Sleepless City series 2 & 4) and we see them as they embark on a new adventure as they take their unique skills and use them for the greater good.

The best thing for me though is catching up with Jonas, Blair, Lucas and Declan again and seeing how their relationships have continued to be strong and loving. I seriously can’t wait to see what Elizabeth and The Vampire Guard series has in store for us next!

I recommend this to those who love paranormal stories with added mystery, who adore characters that come alive before your eyes, who fangirl/boy over amazing storylines and for those who love it when myth and legend surprises even the most jaded of paranormals!

New Colorado Protectorate fell with the assassination of Chancellor Clarke. Like many others, Todd and Nick Ruger left the land of their birth and made a home to the north in Yellowknife. Their world was ever changing. The time came to say a sad farewell to some of their friends and loved ones, but they were taken in with open arms by others and in turn offered shelter to yet more. Through the years they remained steadfast in their duty as sentries to protect and defend those that needed it the most.

Time marches on but through it all they hold each other dear and cherish the love they’ve shared. There are still angry ghosts, Windigos and water spirits to contend with. Their lives change, offering them new roles. When the time comes, they do what sentries have done for generations prior and teach others the skills to carry on as sentries. The Rugers lives were rich and their hearts full with their devotion and love for each other. The tradition of the sentries lived on forever. It was the legacy of Todd and Nick Ruger. That was the way it was always meant to be.

Elizabeth Noble - Electric Candle Electric Candle 1

Blurb

When a vampire finds his soul mate, the bond is forever. It’s love at first sight. Or is it?

Flint, Ohio, Homicide Detective Jonas Forge has been a vampire for nearly two hundred years. He’s fought wars, seen life go from the simple but hard colonial days to the modern, high-tech world. He’s evolved with the times, adapting with each new era, blending into each new life. The one constant is his best friend and lover, Declan.

Until Forge’s soul mate tumbles, literally, into his life.

Even though they’re not fated to be together forever, Forge and Declan are perfectly happy. Despite the pheromone attracting him to his soul mate, Forge isn’t thrilled with the guy, and the feeling seems mutual. While trying to adjust to his clumsy soul mate and equally awkward feelings, Forge is on the hunt for the serial killer who’s leaving a trail of bodies, and who witnesses can’t identify. But Forge better watch out. When his work collides with his love life, things really heat up.

About Elizabeth

Elizabeth Noble started telling stories before she actually knew how to write, and her family was very happy when she learned to put words on a page. Those words turned into fan fiction that turned into a genuine love of M/M romance fiction. Being able to share her works with Dreamspinner is really a dream come true. She has a real love for all things sci-fi, futuristic, and supernatural and a bit of an unnatural interest in a super-volcano in Wyoming.

Elizabeth has three grown children and is now happily owned by an adorable mixed breed canine princess named Rosie, and two cats, Murphy and Yeti. She lives in her native northeast Ohio, the perfect place for gardening, winter and summer sports (go Tribe!). When she’s not writing she’s working as a veterinary nurse, so don’t be surprised to see her men with a pet or three who are a very big part of their lives.

Review: This story is part of a series and can be read in order but can also be read by itself. Jonas Forge is a homicide detective and a vampire, hunting for a serial killer who is killing young men. At one crime scene he stumbles across his soul mate but he is far from happy, his soul mate is clumsy and naive and Forge doesn’t want to give up his relationship with his constant companion Declan. Blair has helped Forge and his friends online for several years but suddenly a driving need has him travelling to Flint, meeting Forge is confusing as Blair really doesn’t have a clue about the paranormal world but he refuses to come between Forge and his real love. When the investigation into the murders comes close to home Forge must accept that Blair might just be the one for him.

This is a great story of a vampire who has to let go of the past in order to find happiness in the future, oh and also of a really cool murder investigation that has surprises for the guys from Bogg’s Castle. Blair is a sweet guy who was turned and left to fend for himself; everything he has learnt about vampires he found out from graphic novels so he has muddled along as best he can. Forge has been a vampire for over two hundred years and was very happy with his life, when Blair tumbles into his life he finds it hard to let go of what he has always had with Declan. Two vampires drawn together by a soul bond, trying to find a way to make it work when one refuses to accept change and the other refuses to make waves.

I found this story to be very interesting and really enjoyed the hunt for the killer; I really liked how the vampires were portrayed and how they carried over simple allergies from when they were human. This is a great story but I found Forge to be a great big stick in the mud, when I first saw how Forge and Blair met I had great hopes for their relationship but Forge constantly put obstacles in the way, refusing to even consider opening his heart to Blair, it wasn’t until he nearly lost Blair that Forge seemed to change his tune about what he wanted. Poor Blair does everything he can to make things easier for Forge even offering to leave but damn I wish he would have told Forge to suck it up and to stop acting like a baby. Will they make a great couple?… that I can’t answer because although Blair proved himself to be a perfect partner, Forge came across as selfish, only wanting what he wanted and ignoring how it affected others.

The murder mystery was brilliantly written always leaving us guessing and bringing a sense of danger to the story when it directly impacts Bogg’s Castle, we see the guys pulling together and working to their strengths to even begin to learn what they are up against. I must admit to looking forward to future stories as the guys seem to have only scratched the surface of the mystery and I am hoping that Forge and Blair’s relationship will settle into something special.

The book is well written and the story is a good one, the relationship is far from an easy one but both characters make it very interesting. The investigation leaves us wanting answers but it looks to be very far reaching and not one that will be solved easily, constantly whetting our appetites with the mystery of just what is really going on.

I recommend this to those who love paranormal mysteries, great characters who are both interesting and annoying, accepting new love and letting go of the old one, danger and desperate searches and an ending that piques your interest for the next book.
