When an angel takes over his boss’s body after a freak accident, Matthew’s cracked heart opens, but will he lose his once in a lifetime chance at love before the holidays are over?

Matthew Cromby figures it will be just another lousy holiday to get through, especially when mouthing off costs him his job. The bitter ex-con never counts on lightning striking his former boss Star Hollister during a freak LA storm that forces an angel to take over Star’s body.

Lost and vulnerable, Star relies on Matthew’s street smarts to keep him safe. Moreover, since he’s been watching over Matthew all his life, he yearns to heal him. But Star can’t stay in a human body without diminishing himself so unless they find a miracle they will be parted forever.

Publisher’s Note: This book was previously released by another publisher. It has been revised and re-edited for release with Totally Bound Publishing.

Jan Irving and STAR

I dye things. Silk, cotton, wool. Thread, scarves, felt. All kinds of stuff. So there is this moment when the color hits the cloth and it suddenly takes and everything is changed. What was plain linen is now turquoise. And what was red has orange highlights. It’s kind of magical.

That’s what it’s like taking a ride with an angel, or so I imagined. And that’s one of the best parts of Star, my holiday novella. That my hero Matthew, a bitter ex con who is slowly dying from his own broken heart gets to fly over Los Angeles in the arms and wings of his angel.

Matthew isn’t sure what to do with this sudden miracle in his life. He’s been beat down. He’s liable to snap when someone wants to caress him. He’s hurting so much it’s hard to get past that. But his pain is really the chains he’s chosen to carry, like we all do when we won’t forgive and move on and free ourselves.

So the moral of the story—and yeah, I think in a holiday story you do see a moral, they are kind of out there all skeleton- like—is that we have one big choice in our life. Hold ourselves to the pain of life or let it go and fly.

I know what I’m hoping Matthew will choose.

Excerpt

He looked down at Star, who was staring up at him with his mouth agape, his wide, dark eyes fixed on Matthew’s face, his suit all messed up.

Seeing him like that, Matthew’s body responded, but his disillusionment that Star wasn’t anything like his sweet fantasy man sharpened his arousal, so he took another dig, “Shouldn’t eat the donuts they bring round, huh?”

“What?” Now Star was well and truly pissed off. “You know what? You are fired!”

Matthew swallowed, hiding how humiliated he felt. Another job gone. What would his parole officer say? How would he keep his small, dingy apartment with only one part-time job at the New Age shop?

But he couldn’t let this man see his worry. In prison, he’d tried so hard to learn how to conceal his emotions and hide himself, because showing any vulnerability was a bad idea. Still, a flash of what he was feeling must have been on his face, because Star took a deep breath, eyes softening slightly.

But any kindness from this man, this beautiful, unattainable man, would rub like acid on Matthew’s pride, his wounds. He would never trust anyone again. He let his mop fall, clattering loudly against the black granite floor. “Fine, go fuck yourself!”

About Jan

Jan Irving has worked in all kinds of creative fields, from painting silk to making porcelain ceramics, to interior design, but writing was always her passion.

She feels you can’t fully understand characters until you follow their journey through a story world. Many kinds of worlds interest her, fantasy, historical, science fiction and suspense—but all have one thing in common, people finding a way to live together—in the most emotional and erotic fashion possible, of course!

Review: Matthew had the hots for his boss, but his boss is a total ass. After Matthew got out of prison his luck was bad and kept on going downhill. After a smart ass remark to Star, he managed to get fired. Then lightening hit Star and Matthew’s world just got strange. Star had been taken over by an angel. An angel that had a kinky side to him. Now for things to start getting wild and Matthew luck just might change.

This story was a blast to read with its humorous parts to it. Part of the time I felt like screaming and crying from the pain Matthew was feeling. The rest laughing my ass off at the angel’s way. He was the perfect character in this little story. I would have loved to have had a larger story to read. This was an amazing story that had me wanting more than just this little taste.

I would recommend reading this story. It will give you a hint of magic, a touch of laughter, angels, pain and happily ever after. It had captured my attention from the moment I started reading and kept it all the way to the end. Other than the fact that it was not long enough for me to enjoy completely it did give me all that I could ask for. It was a blast to read and I look forward to reading more by this amazing author. Jan has a special gift at telling a story and I am glad that I got the chance to read this story.
