Cris Sable doesn’t walk into popular gay bar Big Dick’s expecting to find more than a casual hookup, so he’s surprised by his instant attraction and intense chemistry with go-go dancer Jake. Jake’s sexy as hell and a firecracker in bed. The sparks between them are undeniable, and what starts as a hookup evolves into something deeper, possibly permanent—until Jake dumps Cris flat on his ass for no good reason.

Angry and confused, Cris finds comfort with his longtime friend and employer Charles “Chet” Greenwood. Cris’s emotional state stirs up Charles’s long-buried feelings for Cris. Feelings he’s denied for eight years, because Cris is his employee and therefore off limits—not to mention two decades younger than Charles. Cris admits he has feelings for Charles, too, but he’s still getting over Jake and both men agree nothing can happen between them while Charles is still Cris’s boss.

Jake Bowden knows he doesn’t have anything to offer a guy. He’s a go-go dancer with no degree and no real career aspirations. He’s also used to everyone who loves him leaving, so it makes sense to cut Cris loose before things get too serious. Cris is kind, passionate and totally deserves a guy like Charles—wealthy, owns a home, successful businessman. Jake can’t compete so why bother? They’re better off together. But when Jake has a serious personal crisis, Cris and Charles unite to pull him back together, and the three men discover it’s possible—maybe even inevitable—to fall in love with more than one person at a time.

After his parents kicked him out for being gay, Marc Villegas lived on the streets before getting a second chance. Marc swore he’d never date an addict, but he never dreamed the one in question would be the man he’s always wanted to be with. As the two explore their feelings for each other, Marc faces a difficult choice. Say yes, and it could cost him his sobriety; say no, and it could cost him his heart.

Review: Each book in the Perspectives Series collection features a different romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order. Although it can be read as a standalone story.

Sometimes you find an author that just amazes you with their writings and A.M. Arthur is one of those authors. Although I must admit that I don’t much care for stories that has porn in them. I have never really been into those stories, so I wasn’t sure if I really wanted to read this book. The title and cover are the first things that caught my attention, so I was like…go for it.

My first thought from the blurb is that this story was going to be a story full of pain and very emotional with a lot of ups and downs to it. I felt more for Jon because of his past and how he had come out of an abusive relationship that made him very ill in my eyes. He has problems with eating and body issues, so for him the porn industry lets him focus on sex and lets him show off his body.

Then there is Isaac who was completely deaf, due to his father beating him as a child. He had lost his mother to suicide and his father was murdered. The problem was it left Isaac afraid to leave the home. When he meets his grandfather for the first time, he is a bit frightened. However he also got to meet Jon. Their friendship strengthens and they slowly fall in love.

Even after what Jon went through, he helps Isaac see that he is safe with him. I loved the kitten quite a bit.

Isaac’s grandfather’s health issues are troublesome for them both, as Jon thinks of the man as a father to him. You see how they both are affected by it, and how Jon reacts is painful for them both. I absolutely loved how Isaac comes to Jon’s aide when Jon’s abusive ex shows up and it gave me hope that he is healing all the way.

Now other than the porn aspect of the book, this story was tender, well written and heart breaking at the same time. It doesn’t have the full on drama effect that I had thought it would have and for that I am grateful. It has a romance that is slow burn, fully developed story and characters that made it the way it is. I loved the way the story just seemed to flow off the pages.

It was very sweet and I enjoyed reading it.

Review: Cole Alston has come home to settle his mother’s affairs after her death. He left home right out of college and rarely came back, he was embarrassed by his parents hoarding affliction. His mother was so far gone that she died in the very house that Cole was dreading stepping back into. Always feeling like his parents loved their material possessions more than their own son, Cole craved the unconditional love he’d always missed. Because of this need, he landed in the arms of a controlling, domineering and abusive man. For 7 years, Cole withstood the abuse.

Jeremy Collins has experienced love and loss himself. Both his wife and his sister have died and Jeremy is pretty much a loner, aside from his sister-in-law, who he has remained close to. No one in their little North Carolina town even knows Jeremy is bi-sexual, aside from her.
There is a small spark between the two men from the start, but Cole’s past assures that he will keep Jeremy at arm’s length. Not to mention that Cole is certain Jeremy is straight. As the days pass and Jeremy helps Cole clear out his parent’s house and sell’s items through his antique business, the two grow closer and eventually the relationship becomes sexual. At the start, it’s a friend’s with benefits type thing, but soon Cole is out of his element when his feelings continually grow into more. When his past catches up with him, will Cole stand tall? Or will he flee again?

This was a short and engaging audio book. The narration left a little something to be desired, but I have heard worse. I did enjoy the journey with Cole as I was given pieces of his back story here and there while he goes about cleaning out his child hood home, with every intention of speeding out-of-town as soon as he’s done. But gradually he begins to fall in love with Jeremy. The best part of this book though, for me, was something that happened at the end. I have never seen Karma come around and give it back before like this, it was fantastic, and I loved it. So that got higher markings. The mediocre narration lost a mark though, with a better narrator, this would easily have been a 5 star read.

I’d recommend this book, but perhaps the print version.

Blurb:  For Ryan Sanders, the Paige Community Center is more than a place where he teaches at-risk teens about musical theater. He found a sense of belonging there during one of the hardest times of his life. With the center facing a financial crisis, he’ll do whatever it takes to keep the doors open—even soliciting fundraiser donations from Langley-Quartermaine Financial.

Adam Langley has a plan: survive an internship at his father’s company, finish college, get his trust fund, and find his former high school best friend Ryan and beg his forgiveness. In that order, because if Ryan does forgive him, Adam believes he’ll finally find the courage to come out to his wealthy, bigoted father.

Adam’s carefully considered plan is shattered when Ryan appears at the office a full ten months before Adam is ready, and Ryan is just as stunned. Against his better judgment, Adam gets involved with the fundraiser—and Ryan. Old feelings won’t be denied, and as Ryan and Adam reconnect, they realize neither knows the entire truth about the horrific night three years earlier, that tore their friendship apart.

Review: Okay so let’s get the most important thing out-of-the-way. EXCELLENT read.  Buy the book, support the author, and as the young people say, #nuffsaid!

Now let’s get on to the business of a review.  YA coming of age stories have been done to death and they come in a myriad of forms.  The story line is fairly predictable in YA and so the depth and likability of a story comes from a reader’s empathy with the characters and feeling like you have a stake in the outcome of the young men.  The reader gets that in spades with this story.  I should let you know that you will need to have a device nearby to YouTube the various Broadway songs as they are talked about in the book.  The title, of course, gives the reader a hint, since it’s one of Rent’s iconic songs. The book gives you a two-fer, a great read and some nice ear worms as well.

Adam and Ryan have been through the ringer.  Their childhood friendship and budding romance are shattered first by violence and then by cruelty disguised as love, caring and well-being. These two young men must both learn to trust again, but the love they felt for each other was never lost. What they must do, however, is take control of their lives if they wish to chart their own destiny. This is a lesson that Adam, moreso, that Ryan must learn. Often readers are annoyed with the indecisiveness of their YA characters, but that is central and believable to their current level of maturation, making their fear and inability to commit to a course very believable. What the reader hopes to see is that the character can begin to grow and mature from whatever situation they are placed in. This is done perfectly in this story.

Aligning the book with a Broadway show gives the reader the same sense of anticipation of watching a show and waiting for the climax. The reader is taken along the metaphorical play performance while also watching the story of the two men unfold. The other characters of family, friends and co-workers provide meaningful input into the story and push the two characters along to their inevitable ending. The end of the story is fitting as it culminates in both the benefit performance and Adam coming into his own.

Bravo!  *Cue curtain call for standing ovation*

Review:  Quick read verging on angsty but ultimately sweet.

Cole is immediately likeable as a character and following his story is sweet and sad in equal measure. The things he’s lived through would be enough to make most people shudder, and yet he is strong enough to continue and let Jeremy get close to him.

I quite liked the hoarded house setting filled with amazing antiques that at first you think might just be rubbish. I was glad to see Cole able to make some money off of the mess his parents left behind for him to clean up.

A nicely written story, though I was tenser than I needed to be reading it; I kept anticipating something sinister would happen with Cole’s abusive ex. I had the feeling I had to keep looking over my shoulder just as he did. In the end I was relieved with how it played out, but my stomach had an uneasy knot right until the end.

Review: Lee and Roman started their relationship at 15, but it ended in tragedy when Lee ended up in the hospital with no memory and Roman disappeared and is presumed dead. But, in the ten years since, Lee has never given up hope that Roman is still alive. When Lee comes across a man wandering down the road in just shorts and t-shirt in the snow he takes pity on him… and discovers it is Roman, wearing the same clothes as the day he disappeared. Can Lee discover what happened that night ten years ago and find out where Roman has been or will the truth be too much to cope with.

This story packs a punch for being a novella; it is a complete story that leads you along one step at a time. Guiding you to use your imagination and then smacking you in the face with the truth, brilliantly done, absolutely perfect. Lee has missed Roman for everyday of the ten years that he has been missing, always hoping for some clue as to what happened to him, always hoping that he really is still alive, keeping Roman in his heart for always. The day he comes across a man walking down the road in unsuitable clothes he decides to help him, but is amazed when he realizes that it is his Roman. But, there are some differences and although he wants to know everything. Roman tells him he has to remember that night. Roman has been through his own type of hell and the only way to release Lee from his is to get him to let go of the past and move on. But, Lee is more stubborn than he remembered and just might be able to help him.

I loved this story, it was beautifully crafted and the twist is one that I never saw coming, there were many things running through my head as to what might have happened and where Roman had been, but I never even touched on the true one. I loved the way that the author showed us Lee and Roman when they were young and the beginning of their romance, the support they gave each other even at such a young age and finally what really happened that fateful night. I really can’t say anything more without giving something away, and you will want to discover how wonderful and slightly spooky this book is for yourself.

So I am recommending this to those who love the supernatural, true love, enduring love, twists and a truly wonderful story.

Review:  Let me start by saying, if I’d known what this book was about, I would not have touched it with a ten-foot pole.  See, I am basically a wimp.  I say that nightlight in the bathroom is for my kids, but truth be told…I’m scared of the dark.

Prodigal scared the bejezus out of me…and I like it.  From word one there is a dark tone to this book.  You don’t know what drove Ethan from his hometown, but you do know that death is bringing him back.

The romance is secondary to the mystery, for sure.  And there is just enough paranormal to make reality even more frightening.  Page turning anticipation kept me reading well in the wee hours.  This book, for me, was absolutely fantastic.  Like I said, I’m pretty much a newbie with the genre, but, I’m pretty sure I’ll pick up  A. M. Arthur’s next book.  But, Trust me…I’ll be reading it with the lights on.  Highly recommend.
