(Bluewater Bay 16)
by

Nat Horn is almost living the dream. His part as a werewolf extra on the hit show Wolf’s Landing has somehow turned into a regular role. Beautiful rising star Solari Praveen has taken an interest in him. He’s even making enough money to think about getting out of Bluewater Bay someday. Except his retired dad’s dependence on pain medications seems to be getting worse, and Nat’s the only one around to take care of him.

When Nat learns that Solari’s interest isn’t romantic, his disappointment is surprisingly short-lived, because in getting to know her, he also got to know her assistant, Rafael. And Rafael turns out to be the kind of friend—and potential boyfriend—Nat never dared to dream about.

Distracted by his astonishing new life, new friends, and new possibilities, Nat lets his guard down, and suddenly his life goes careening out of control. Racked by guilt, he tries to push his new friends away, but the bonds he’s formed are already too strong. In fact, they’re strong enough to pull him forward, into the future he’s been longing for—but to get there, he’ll have to let go of the past.

Review: I have read a few of Ally Blue’s stories and have always been intrigued by the worlds she creates.

I love a good suspense type of story that has a bit of danger in it. It always keeps me guessing however this one was just a bit off to me. I felt like I knew some of the answers before it even happened. Other than that the story was a pretty good story. It flowed just right and was exceptionally sweet.

Koichi and his twin sister are opening up a little shop near the bog. After a terrible fire at their last shop, they settled for this new setting. It comes with lots of bonus consistently of a sexy neighbor.

Will came to Alabama after a fight with his family, setting up his new shop right next to Koichi. He has a few secrets and one of them was his love for a man who had run when he was younger. He came here to find Anthony. It turns out Anthony is the one with all the surprises.

Will and Koichi hit it off from the start. There is a lot of sparks flying around them both. Now while that is all hot and sexy, it doesn’t necessarily mean an instant love thing. Yet somehow this author has made that connection for us. I must admit that when Will explains what he is cooking one night I was starving by the end of the book.

The characters didn’t really make the right impact that they should have with me. However the shocker is it didn’t seem to matter that much for me. This story was a blast to read and I definitely will want to read Ally’s next book. Although the spooky part never did get solved which was a drag for me.

The title is what really makes me want to know the answers. Dang secrets are always secret. I really want to know the answers to that, so I hope that Ally will turn this into a series.

I would definitely recommend this book.

Blurb: Something evil is going down in Atlanta…

Adrian Broussard and Greg Woodhall are attending OutlantaCon, Atlanta’s annual gay geek conference, and are looking forward to a weekend of cosplay and general nerdy fun. As they mingle with other conference goers, though, Adrian feels a strange, cold energy emanating from a man dressed as a satyr.

Encounters with storybook creatures roaming the streets only increase the chilly tendrils teasing Adrian’s sixth sense—strong enough to cause disturbing visions of Greg’s existence being erased.

When a girl at the conference goes missing, then turns up dead, clues literally drop in their laps as Adrian begins to fear the cold, alien energy is engulfing the whole city. And in danger of swallowing up his lover. To Adrian’s horror, his worst nightmare is realized.

Now both he and Greg must call on reserves of strength and resourcefulness they never knew they possessed to save Atlanta, and each other.

Review: Each book in the Mojo Mysteries collection features Adrian and Greg. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters from Bay City Paranormal Investigations also, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order. In fact I would start with Bay City first because that is where you will meet our sexy men.
Our sexy duo is attending Outlanta Con conference for pretty much gay geeks. They get to dress up and have fun, plus some hot sex. What is better than that? Well until Adrian’s mojo hits. There is some strange things happening and boy they need to find out what.

Then a girl is murdered and the murderer is just a young man. A young man who has no idea of what the hell is going on. Adrian and Greg know he is innocent, and then Greg ends up in an alternate time. Wow things are going to heat up.

Adrian will do anything and everything to get his love back, including going there and bringing him back. He will have to deal with a creepy escalator and a freaky cop to get his man. Whereas poor Greg is just trying to keep alive from all of the strange creatures he is coming across.

I loved the warning that comes with this book which to me gives you more entertainment. It has weird critters, Hell-Lanta, regular Atlanta, creepy escalators, cosplay geeks, temples and mojo powers.

I had a blast reading this. It caught my attention from the moment I started reading and kept it all the way to the end. It gave me almost everything I could want in a book.

I would definitely recommend reading this story. Trust me it will keep you laughing, crying, loving and having fun.

Seven thousand meters below the ocean’s surface, the crew of the BathyTech 3 mineral mining facility has found something remarkable: a rock-like sphere of unknown material and origin.

For Mo Rees, the discovery calls to his inner explorer and adds color to his dull miner’s life. Even better than the promise of new knowledge is the unexpected connection he forges with Dr. Armin Savage-Hall, leader of the team brought down to study the thing.

For Armin, the object is the find of a lifetime. It could prove his controversial theories and secure his scientific reputation. And Mo is a fascinating bonus.

Then crew members start behaving strangely. Worse, they start to change: their eyes glow purple, their teeth sharpen. Then the violence begins, the brutal deaths. As BathyTech descends deeper into chaos, the surviving crew works desperately to find the cause of the horrors around them. What they uncover could annihilate the human race. And they can’t stop it.

Blurb: Sometimes it takes losing everything to find what you really need.

When Judah went to prison for insider trading, he lost everything he thought was important: his business, his money, his power. But when he gets out, homelessness strips him of the one thing he has left: his self-respect. When another homeless man saves him from a beating, he begins to learn to rely on the goodness of those around him.

For Toby, life on the streets has become familiar. Comfortable. So comfortable he wonders if he’s given up on changing his life for the better. Then comes Judah. Formerly rich, newly homeless, all his pride and attitude gone along with his material possessions. Helping Judah feels good. Their unexpected connection—physical and beyond—feels even better.

Their shared situation nurtures a growing closeness that blossoms into something deeper. But when change comes knocking, it will take all their strength to keep fear and insecurity from tearing them apart.

Review: Even though this book is about homelessness, it is a feel good story. The homeless aspects seem to be portrayed through rose-colored glasses. The real aspects of homelessness, illness, injury, arrest, hypothermia, crime, seem to be missing. There is one instance of near mugging, other than that, the homeless characters always seem to find some sort of shelter, safety and fairly regular food and hygiene facilities.

But this is written to be a Christmas story, so I do understand and appreciate the warm and fuzzy for that purpose. Long the Mile does open eyes to how easily one can become homeless, and does the job of giving the homeless an identity when we so often overlook or dehumanize homeless people. There is also an interesting dynamic written regarding finding one’s purpose again, picking up the pieces, and starting over after hitting rock bottom, and realizing we must each find it for ourselves, not depends on others to do it for us. We see this specifically in regards to the relationship between Toby and Judah; it was a difficult choice, a hard path, but in the end …well…you’ll just have to read the end!

A worthwhile read that sheds light on a very real and growing social issue.

Blurb: Rebellion, war and survival. Love’s a bitch.

Tuck’s a Gutter, one of a gang of violent orphans running level thirty-six of Hell’s End, the solar system’s outermost space station. There’s only one way out of this brotherhood of blood—grow up and be killed and eaten by other Gutters.

Tuck barely escapes his death sentence, only to fall prey to the powerful L’arisian family. Rescue from a L’arisian whorehouse never happens, but rescued he is, and by Gov soldiers no less. Alone among the enemy, Tuck trusts only one person—the man who risked everything to pluck him to safety.

Ivan’s a soldier. No more, no less. But the disquieting things he learns about the Government’s plans for the Gutter kid have him doing the one thing a soldier shouldn’t do. Think about doing what’s right instead of what he’s told. All for a guy he can’t get out of his head.

Getting involved in a rebellion that might get them killed is a problem. Falling in love? That’s a disaster in the making.

This book contains rebels, spies, soldiers, bad guys, love, sex, betrayal, fights to the death, and robot spiders. Really.

Review: Hell’s End is a war field. Between the Gov and the families fighting for control, it’s a fight for survival every day. Tuck is a Gutter, one of the many children who band together to stay alive. But life expectancy is short. If you live past 18/19 years old and the Gov and families don’t get you, then the other Gutters will. Tuck’s time has run out and when he outruns the Gutters, his problems have only just begun. Ivan is a Gov soldier and when he is ordered to rescue a kid from one of the families’ whorehouses, his suspicions are aroused. Just what is so special about a Gutter kid that the Gov would pull off a daring rescue? Discovering the truth, Ivan sets out to do what is right. Getting involved with the rebellion may get them both killed, but falling in love gives them something to live for.

Oh. My. God. hold on to your seat because this ride is about to get bumpy. Tuck lives on level thirty-six of Hell’s End. That level belongs to the Gutters. Children abandoned throughout the station are taken in by older children and they survive by any means necessary and if you get older or slow down, then you make a tasty meal for the rest of the Gutters. Tuck’s time has come and when he manages to escape, he ends up being caught by one of the families. And being rescued isn’t something he even imagined. Being rescued by the Gov is a disaster and when Ivan comes to him with a warning; it draws both of them into Gov secrets that the Gov don’t want discovered. Ivan and Tuck are drawn together in hard times, developing feelings that could be used against them. But, their feelings won’t be ignored, and can they save each other while fighting against the Gov?

*Squeal* This book grips you by the throat from the first page, and as a warning if you have a delicate stomach there are times when it will churn. The setting in this book is brutal. It is a fight for survival. There aren’t many levels where the brutality doesn’t reach, and even the levels that should be safe have hidden dangers. The characters are varied, but each has the underlying need for survival. Ivan and Tuck may come from completely different levels, but there is a spark between them that is rough and needy and their love doesn’t come easy or wrapped in a pretty package. Their love develops during harsh times, while they are digging and delving in places better left alone.

The storyline is a twisting maelstrom. We discover the Gov’s dark secrets, and the lengths they will go to get their way. But, as we are drawn in further, the depths of the Gov’s duplicity are revealed. The background settings are brilliantly written. The backdrop stands out against the story that is being played out and the characters add the life and danger that lingers all over Hell’s End. Should I tell you about the spider robots? Nah, I think that is an experience you should discover for yourself. Should I describe the rolling street battles? Now, where would be the fun in that? Should I tell you more about the Gutters… the scariest group of all? I wouldn’t want to ruin your revulsion or the kindling seeds of pity.

If you want a science fiction story that is brutal and gritty, that has danger and excitement, that will turn your stomach, that has love and hope, a brilliant storyline and the beginnings of a happily ever after, then this story is for you.

A Love’s Evolution Story

Chris Tucker’s perfect life has just gone up in smoke. The fire that destroyed the best restaurant in Asheville took his head-chef dream job along with it—and the owner is walking away. Sure, Chris still has his beautiful home and blissful marriage to his soul mate, Matt Gallagher. But for the first time in his working life, he’s unemployed and spiraling into depression.

Matt’s trying hard to be supportive, but it’s tough when every time he tries to get Chris to open up, the man shuts down tighter than a live clam. Maybe it’s best to hide his hurt and back off. Yet as Chris’s fruitless search for work wears on, Matt begins to wonder if his lover will ever come around.

As the tension between them reaches breaking point, Chris faces the fact that it could be the end of an era for him and Matt. Unless one sweet idea can turn his mounting troubles into a fresh-cut path back to the arms of the one man who makes him whole.

Warning: This book contains gay sex, lots of angst, occasional smartassedness, and an abundance of cookies. Ally Blue and Samhain Publishing will not be held responsible for any resulting food-porn habit.

Review:  I enjoyed this book.  That’s not to say that there were multiple passages where I wanted to say…really?  Chris and Matt’s story started six years ago with Love’s Evolution.  The passing years have not dimmed their passion one iota.  Which makes it really sad when Chris keeps pushing Matt away.  I understand about needing space to collect your thoughts, but come on.  Six years and a handfasting later, you would have thought Chris would have made better choices.

This is a pretty short read and there’s  a bit of really steamy sex…quite a bit.  For a very sweet love story, fabulous make up sex and a happily ever after, I highly recommend this book.

Oh, and there’s a really great recipe included. 😉
