(By The Numbers 02)
by
Tory Temple & Chris Owen
Dogs, a young daughter, and shift work make for an unpredictable and never boring life for new couple Deuce and Trey. Trey is keeping his ex-wife out of their hair, but Deuce is determined to forge a truce between them all. Trey is vehemently opposed to a friendship between Deuce and Holly—she’s the last person Trey wants more interaction with. Deuce persists, however, and tensions between them could spell the end of their relationship.
They’ll have to find a way to make it all add up again—or lose everything.
First Edition of Adding it Up–By the Numbers II published by Torquere Press, 2013.
Blurb: When Nathaniel, aka Deuce, arrives home to an apartment building on fire, he can only think of one thing: his pregnant dog. Luckily firefighter Trey Donovan rescues her, and Nathaniel is exceedingly grateful. In fact, he tracks down Trey’s station so he can show his gratitude properly—and explore the connection he senses between them. Trey’s interested, but a less-than-friendly ex-wife and the seven-year-old daughter he’s raising make things… complicated. Between everything on Trey’s plate and the newborn puppies Deuce must care for—while homeless—finding common ground won’t be easy. But the spark of attraction between them is too enticing to be allowed to fizzle.
Review: The first thing I should say was that what made me grab this book was the cover. It was so damn cute and hey who doesn’t love dogs. It is a very entertaining little story that is just adorable and fresh. I loved how the characters were and let’s just say they were hot. A little computer nerd and a sexy fireman, perfect for each other. Then add in a sweet seven year old girl and 3 dogs, or should I say two of them are puppies. Now the ex-wife can be taken out of the picture, what a twit.
This story just caught my attention with the first word and kept it all the way to the end. Although I could do without them going on and on about Holly. We already knew how she was going to be, and Trey’s apologizing was way too much. I did like how Deuce went with the flow and bit back when needed.
Deuce was just enjoying riding his bike home from work, to find that his apartment building was on fire. Deuce’s pretty pregnant dog was trapped inside. However there is one sexy fire fighter who is going to save the day. He in fact save’s the day in more ways than one.
I absolutely enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading the next story. It was a major hit with me. I love a man in uniform, but let’s face it Deuce is the big hit for me. Love a smart man. I would definitely recommend this book.
Blurb: Spencer is more than happy to stand up with his twin sister when she gets married, and accepts the role of maid of honor without hesitation. He’s determined to plan the best wedding shower ever, mostly because his other sisters assume he won’t be able to, and he’s focused on giving his twin the party of her dreams. Mostly focused. When he’s not thinking about cakes, tea sets, flowers, and tulle, he’s entirely caught up by thinking about Dean, the best man. Lucky for him, Dean is equally caught. But in the face of siblings, parents, small children, miles of ribbon, and enough booze for four bachelor parties, do the two of them have what it takes to make it all the way to the alter?
Previously published in Family Matters from Torquere Press.
Spencer’s sister gets engaged, leaving Spencer the last single sibling left. The night of that wonderful unveiling there is a hot, sexy, guest, Dean, who seems to fit right in with the whole family and draws Spencer in like a magnet!
The sexual encounters are hot, spontaneous, and filled with a whole lotta dominate Dean! And yes, Spencer proves a man can pull off maid of honor with skills to spare!
Blurb: Trey and Deuce have settled into their lives as a couple. Dogs, Trey’s daughter, Lacey, and shift work make for an unpredictable and never boring life together. Trey has managed to keep his ex-wife at arm’s length, but Deuce is determined to make peace amongst them all for Lacey’s sake. When he attempts to establish a friendship with Holly, Trey vehemently protests. Holly is not somebody Trey wants more interaction with. Deuce persists, however, and tensions escalate between them.
Trey doesn’t see how the rift can be mended. Can they make it all add up again?
Review: A heartwarming continuation of book one, that follows Trey and Deuce’s journey through their growing relationship and growing family. Can one be “friends” with their ex? We will surely find out as both Trey and Deuce try to have a good relationship with Lace’s mom. This book also shows the growing pains of any long-term relationship, dealing with each other’s shortcomings, the stress of work schedules on personal lives, and how couples react to outbursts and hurt feelings. It’s also reaffirmed that you can’t just think of your own needs when in a relationship, and sometimes we’re just weak and selfish and need to make amends. The only real complaint I have, and its there, is that this book dwells too long on the issue between Trey, Deuce, and Holly. It’s kinda beaten to death. I also got a bit angry with Trey, I mean, either let Deuce be a parent or not, you can’t pick and choose exactly when that role is allowed him. But I do like seeing their family unit growing with the addition of Deuce’s dad becoming a bigger part, and hopefully even some of Trey’s family in the future. If you enjoyed book one, this is a nice continuation.
Blurb: Cort Strang is a homicide detective called to a scene where a man has been strangled with the cord from a keyboard — not a pretty way to die. The man, who found the body, Patrick Gallagher, is pretty, though. He’s also an off duty detective from Computer Crimes. The two connect almost instantly, and as Strang gets to work on finding out what led to the death of poor Mr. Dinsmore, Gallagher never seems to be very far away.
With a wealth of computer, data to wade through Strang welcomes Gallagher into his case and into his bed. Can Strang balance work and pleasure, or is his mind too divided to make either be successful?

Review: Cort Strang is a homicide detective who is over worked and without a partner, when he is assigned a new case, involving a man strangled with a keyboard cord, he ends up asking the man who discovered the body, Patrick Gallagher to help him. Gallagher is a detective in Computer Crimes and discovered the dead body of his neighbor, Strang catches his interest right away, and Gallagher decides to pursue the man. With a murder to solve Strang juggles the case and Gallagher, even combining the two at times but will his attraction to Gallagher distract him from finding the murderer?
This was an enjoyable read that has some great investigating and some hot steamy encounters. Strang is investigating a murder of a socially inept man, but he finds himself finding parallels in his own life. When he meets Gallagher, he takes the man up on his flirtation and ropes him into helping on the case. Gallagher and Strang strike sparks off each other and have some hot steamy encounters but Strang can’t forget the case he is working on and although he might get a touch distracted nothing will stop him for hunting for the murderer.
Strang and Gallagher have a very intense fast-moving relationship, they both like what they see so they get what they want. The murder and investigation is where the story really focused. We see the steps that Strang takes to solve the murder and the sheer determination to carry on even though he is basically investigating it by himself and he is exhausted. I found the investigation to be really well done and it had me gripped as I followed the case and seeing the threads being pulled to bring the answers to the fore.
This is a great little story that is great for an afternoon murder mystery read; eat your heart out Poirot. If you love hot sex, a great storyline and the beginning of a hot relationship than you should give this one a go.
