Blurb: Luke Chandler says he wants nothing more than a quiet life on his land-claim in Dakota Territory. But what he also wants is a partner. The problem is, loving other men in 1881 means a lonely life for a man like Luke. As the son of a butcher from Boston, his desire for a loving domestic relationship seems nothing more than a dream, until one winter night, a snowstorm blows a young man to his door in need of shelter, and as the winter drags on, bringing with it a slow burning love, his hopes begin to soar. Along with those hopes, his fears of the reactions of the people in the small town of De Smet grow.

Sam Smith is a romantic, but he also holds a strong family loyalty. He leaves Boston to get away from his parents’ expectations for a while, always knowing he must return at some point. The sweet young man does not anticipate meeting a rugged, honest man like Luke, who is desperate for love while at the same time afraid of the repercussions.

The first time Luke holds him in his arms, Sam plans to make Luke his darling man.

Review: Fyn Alexander is back with a new release titled Winter Hearts. I became familiar with this author a few years back when I stumbled upon the series, The Angel and the Assassin. A series that I absolutely love and have read more than once. I immediately started looking for more books by this author because the writing style, the emotion the characters portray, the hot sex (of course) and the storylines were all something that I connect with and feel pulled towards when reading.

A lot of her characters also have a tendency to lean towards one being the more alpha male while the other takes on more submissive qualities.Another facet that I like in my stories. Winter Hearts has all of the things that I have mentioned plus much more that had me reading from start to finish without stopping.

The story and setting take place in 1881 in the Dakota Territory. Winter has set in hard, which meant very few people left the area or came into it either. Most of the town’s folk rented rooms and stayed close to town. Trains had come to a complete stop, due to the weather, therefore leaving most people close to starving. Having claims to land on the outskirts mean very little if they can’t make it until spring to take ownership.

Luke Chandler is trying to get by with as little as possible. Keeping to himself most days is getting harder to do. To avoid suspicion and not give away his sexuality, he spends a lot of time alone. That all changes one evening with banging on his door. Who could possibly be out in weather that was halting everything in its tracks?

Unbeknownst to Luke, his world is about to change, and in a big way. Sam Smith also has a claim of land but it won’t do him any good if he dies before he gets to build anything on it. Being caught in horrendous snowdrifts and winds that make visibility impossible, Sam bangs on the first door he finds. His hope is to maybe spend a day or two with Luke, wait out the storm, and then head onto his land. What he didn’t foresee even when is vision was clear was how attracted and turned on by Mr. Luke Chandler Sam would be.

If there are miracles out there than Sam is praying this is his because he doesn’t plan to ever leave. Trying to convince Luke they are meant for each other, even in Dakota Territory, will take every bit of strength, good fortune, maybe a white lie or two, and if he has to keep some secrets that, if Luke knew, would surely go against him, well…what’s a boy to do? With perseverance, a really cute smile, home cooking, and cuddling against Luke in the cold of night may just get him the man of his dreams.

I was completely glued from start to finish with this story. The author’s characterizations including, but not limited to, gestures, speech, and actions were spot on for the time period. The attributes that each character possesses make them someone you only want to succeed and be happy. I found the portrayal of the land, their small community and small town beliefs to be believable and aid in a nice visual of their surroundings.

On the surface, Luke and Sam are living their dream. They quickly create a domestic home life, each doing their respective chores, coming together at the end of the day, enjoying discussion and laughter over the dinner table. They both have become laid back with the interactions throughout the daytime. It has become common practice to share small touches, kisses on the cheek, hugs, and what have you only allowing themselves to break completely free from those restraints behind lock doors and pulled curtains. Throughout all of this, I felt their joy, I laughed at their banter. I was smiling more often than not with their carefree behaviour.

But…you just know in your gut something is going to happen. I was on the edge of my seat/waiting/hoping I was wrong. When Luke’s biggest fear becomes his reality, what will happen? When those lies in the first few pages that seemed not so important, in the context of all they were dealing with, now seem to have multiplied, will forgiveness be a false hope? One lie becomes two to cover the first lie and so on. I think we all know how quickly that can snowball and become your biggest regret. These two men had it all. They laughed, they loved, and they fell IN love. Will they lose everything including each other?

Fyn Alexander writes a beautiful story showing that love, regardless of your pedigree, can happen between two men. Her characters begin to believe, as did I, that even with the backward ways of their time, they can have it all. She didn’t pull any punches or mislead you with the secondary characters disliking their situation. The resistance that Luke and Sam were up against and the hateful vitriol of the community was appropriate even though it was hard to read at times.

Overall impression: I loved this story. I loved the time period, I loved how Luke was all alpha badass and sweet, lovable Sam loved to cook and clean and even make curtains and Luke was not turned off by it. I loved that Sam made Luke talk even when he would rather not. And most of all, I loved that they loved each other. Whether their love is enough, I strongly recommend you read this amazing story and see.

Review: I was skeptical about reading a book that flowed around the issue of eating disorder/weight management, but this book really surprised me and hit a much deeper note. The issues John tangles with are mistrust and hiding from himself, which his ex manages to find a perfectly good solution for…Sky Cook.

Sky is happy to avoid hard truths, and his own past. The issues of his eating are much deeper than we expect and the author does an excellent job at examining the psychological and physical reasons behind over eating or binge eating in Sky’s case.

The BDSM elements seem to be a perfect fit in this situation, because Sky needs discipline and safe controls, and John needs to be able to control something if not his own love life.
So many interesting twists and turns in this plot. There’s the mystery of John’s mother, and Sky’s past, the D/s scenes, and the obvious attraction the two have for each other.

I don’t want to give away big reveals because this book grabbed my attention and held it through as each secret was unveiled. Well written, this book moves along at a steady clip with a unique plot and very intense scenes. The Skinny On Love really evoked may reactions in me; I bit my nails, I wanted to grab a snack, I wanted to cry, I wanted to go run a few miles, I wanted to throttle both MCs at different points, and I certainly enjoyed the steamy scenes.

Very hot, very surprising, this book really impressed me!

Blurb: MI6 assassin, Kael Saunders, is a larger than life, dominant master who finds himself becoming a Daddy to nineteen-year-old Angel Button. Over the last year and a half Kael and Angel have settled into a loving Dom/sub relationship. But no matter how comfortable the highly intelligent and ruthless assassin and his sweet, eager, loving boy become with each other, Kael is still the boss and Angel wants him to remain so, whether in the dungeon, the bedroom, or the kitchen. Naturally submissive, Angel has learned how to be a good Daddy’s boy and a good slave, but his childlike willfulness still makes itself known now and again.

Kael has always wondered why he is able to do the work he does. Why is he so ruthless, so intelligent, so serious and rigid? Could it be that he got those traits from the father he has never met? Who is Kael’s father and will he ever meet the man whose genes he carries?

Review: This story is part of a series and I recommend they are read in order. Kael and Angel have settled nicely into their life together , but sometimes Angel feels like he won’t be able to live up to Kael’s plans for the future and he acts out.  Kael only wants the best for his Angel and he wants Angel to live up to his full potential. Kael also sees a man from his past that he never wants to see again, a Russian politician gets on his nerves and his mum finally confesses the secrets of the past.

This has got to be one of the best series that I have read. Angel is growing up fast but sometimes he still acts like a kid.  He seems to have a wide-eyed innocence that completely disregards all that he has seen and done in the past. Kael is determined to control exactly how Angel’s life will turn out and he has it all planned out.  But, when he realizes that maybe he has been a bit hard on Angel (with the help of his mum) he has to decide what to do.

I love Kael and Angel they are just such an odd couple.  Angel with his innocence and wonder and Kael with his cynical and deaden emotions; but, when they are together they complement each other well. The only person before Angel that Kael even cared about was his mum Sharon and now Kael is realizing that Angel has opened his emotions up slightly and Kael isn’t sure he likes it. What we have in this story is a big development in Angel and Kael’s relationship and it’s interesting.  And when secrets come out how Kael held himself back from killing the man who hurt his mother, I don’t know because he adores his mum.

This story is for those who love Angel and the Assassin, hot BDSM, a man who is dominant in all aspects of his life, a sub who adores his Daddy, who love violence and danger, who love a slight mystery and more wonderful stories to come.

Review: Robin has been banished to a monastery after being caught with his hose around his ankles.  His father was ever in despair, as he was never manly enough, but pushing his marriage early his father hopes it will make a man of him.  Ben is a manly knight who Robin tends to when he is injured.   When the time comes for them to leave, Ben to his home and Robin to get married, Ben takes things into his own hands to try to stop the marriage.

This is a very good medieval historical type story which is well written with very good characters and a great story-line and plot. Robin seems to have a very submissive personality that has been abused and trod upon by others, Ben expects men to behave in a certain way and Robin will act that way because Ben will train him. Robin is a lovely man and it was nice to see him develop into a more confident man.  Ben, on the other hand, I wasn’t sure of because, at first, he seemed really nice then he changed and it made me not keen on him.  But he came through in the end and turned out to be a proper knight in shining armor.

Now the sex is hot, in a primal medieval way and we do see quite a bit of kink because of Robin’s conditioning when he was younger.   Robin also keeps secrets because he is ashamed but they keep being exposed which causes problems with Ben.  Ben also has his own problem because he thinks that some things are just for women, which doesn’t make Robin to happy.  There’s also some action in the fighting department which is quite cool.

So I recommend this for those who love medieval knights, hot men, a great story, sword fights, hot sex and a great ending.
