The Weekend Bucket List

by

Mia Kerick

High school seniors Cady LaBrie and Cooper Murphy have yet to set one toe out of line—they’ve never stayed out all night or snuck into a movie, never gotten drunk or gone skinny-dipping. But they have each other, forty-eight hours before graduation, and a Weekend Bucket List.

There’s a lot riding on this one weekend, especially since Cady and Cooper have yet to admit, much less resolve, their confounding feelings for one another—feelings that prove even more difficult to discern when genial high school dropout Eli Stanley joins their epic adventure. But as the trio ticks through their bucket list, the questions they face shift toward something new: Must friendship play second fiddle to romance? Or can it be the ultimate prize?

Review: Oh WOW (and I rarely say wow!!) this book was even more amazing than the first one! Seriously, this book had it all! A complex, beautiful, compelling story; quality writing that kept me glued to my IPad; amazing characters that are strong, flawed, vulnerable and well developed; I could go on and on, but then this review will never end.

Will and Lennox are teenagers since this book picked up pretty much where Go Your Own Way left off, but there are plenty of steamy moments and a lot of sex. If you don’t like YA books for the lack of steam, have no fear; Will and Lennox are both slightly childish AND very mature for their age. This weird combo makes them real and very relatable and it helped me understand and connect with them both.

Lennox is still dealing with the effects of his awful childhood, but with Will’s support and love he comes out of his shell; he’s still prickly and uses vulgar language to stop people from seeing the real Lennox, but he’s also maturing and gaining confidence and self-esteem. I loved how Will and his parents, along with their friends, help Lennox realize his self- worth and believe he can be more than just a juvie kid with no future.

There are 4 POVs in this book: Will’s, Lennox’s, Ben’s (Will’s father) and Karen’s (Will’s stepmother); I usually can’t stand books with multiple points of view because they’re distracting and take the focus away from the main characters. This time I thought that by introducing Ben and Karen’s POVs Riley showed us that adults have room for personal growth as well, and we can always continue to mature regardless of our age. Ben went from hating Lennox and thinking of him as a piece of trash to appreciating and admiring him; being possessive of Will only made things tense between them and Ben learned that Will’s judgement wasn’t wrong despite his young age.

I loved everything about this book, but I have to admit I’m scared of reading the next book; Will and Lennox will be going to college in different cities and I’m scared to death of what trials they’re going to go through. Please let it be no cheating!!!!

Reviewer: Prime

Review: This was my first time reading a KE Belledonne book – and I have to say I was completely blown away by the awesomeness of both the story and the writing.

The title says it all – Daniel and Erik, a young couple who have been dating for a few years, are now getting ready to plan their super awesome wedding. The story in itself is quite simple. We get to read how the guys met and their life dating. It isn’t super romantic by any means but it is literally just two guys living a life and trying to become a cohesive couple.

Daniel is down to earth, though he has always dreamed of planning his own wedding. Whereas Erik is a rather deep-thinking academic type who seems like the kind of guy that would let the world pass him if it didn’t interest him. Together they are wonderful and though I loved Daniel more than Erik (he did piss me off a couple times) Daniel is the kind of guy that steps out of his shell when in the presence of the man he loves.

Towards the end we did get an injection of drama. Up until that point it was a real humorous look at how a stupid app and expectations from what we see in magazines, etc. can really become a head fuck if you try to conform. This was one of those times where I found myself feeling sympathy for Daniel and mentally yelling at Erik that he needs to get his shit together and try when it came to his relationship with Daniel. Daniel, after downloading a wedding app becomes overcome and I couldn’t help but think that perhaps Erik needed to intervene before things went to shit.

While I relate to Erik, the whole academic thing and not really completely into planning parties, I did want to hit him on the head. In fact, he did the one thing that academics tend to do when a job offer comes their way and why some academics are completely miserable because they don’t do the whole work-life balance right. I felt sorry for Daniel at that point and I was really annoyed with Erik.

But in the end it’s all good, there is a HEA and it is then that Erik does show, albeit in passing, that he actually did pay attention at some important details when their wedding plans were destroying their relationship.

The Better to Kiss You With by Michelle Osgood

Reviewer: Cat

Review: The  Better To Kiss You with is a fun story bringing the world of gaming and reality into real life for Deanna, a moderator of a Role-playing game called Wolf’s Run. She finds herself stalked by an irate rogue werewolf and a new girlfriend with a secret.

I loved this story. It is unique.  There are intriguing characters, some mystery, romance and a touch of humor. Everything I look for in a love story.

I am not a gamer, but I found the storyline easy to follow and fascinating. I loved both Jamie and Deanna and also Deanna’s best friend, Nathan. He added the color and humor to the story. And I cannot forget Arthur. Who doesn’t like a cute, furry friend?

If you like F/F romance, Dogs, Roleplay gaming, A sweet, sexy romance, and werewolves, this is for you!

Review: I really enjoyed this story about a down on his luck musician, Devon, who goes to bar to drown his sorrows so to speak. He discovers a community he never knew existed and in the process finds out who he really is.

Eldan runs Céilí.What made his character so great is he was made up of several layers. Not one or two but many. He was intriguing, quirky at times yet serious.

I was amazed at times that Devon did not know who he truly was but at the same time I understood. Both Eldan and Devon seemed so right for each other.

Great read.

The entire story draws you in slowly as the story progresses. It was well written and holds your attention from start to finish.

Review: Wow, just wow. I loved this book. Filled with mystery, adventure, secrets and drama this story takes you on a journey that may or may not end in tragedy. A Baron who takes people from villages for power, invades Ren’s village. In an attempt to keep his younger brother from being taken he diverts their attention to himself.

I seriously hated the soldiers. They were brutes that did not care about the captives in any way. Ren is isolated from everyone in his group. In a cell next to his he meets Asher, an ex-military man. The two grow closer as the story progresses. Ren is very powerful in his own right as he has a piece of a star inside him. But he can be dangerous if in the wrong hands of someone who controls him.

I really felt bad for Ren as he witnessed his friend’s treatment or demise. No one should have to go through that. Some scenes were horrifying and left me in a state of shock while others made me angry on behalf of the way the victims were treated.

This was a riveting story that holds the reader spellbound until the very end.  I really liked this world. It was full of danger and uncertainty as to the end results.

Great read.

Review: Heath has just graduated Yale. His parents have his life planned. They want him to work for his father and get married and have children to carry on their name. They even have a sweet girl they like chosen for him. They are giving him a choice of his job, but he has to choose after the summer.

His friend Frankie takes him out to celebrate his birthday. He thinks he has found a place perfect for Heath. It is a speakeasy for like-minded men like Heath. Though Frankie brought him there to meet up with Heaths college crush Julian, Heath quickly fell for the owner. In a time of prohibition and when it’s dangerous for gay men can have this relationship last or will Heath chooses to follow his parent’s wishes.

Speakeasy a beautifully written story of the prohibition eras which is my favorite historical period. Suzy Ingold does an excellent job giving the book that nostalgic feel. Speakeasy is character driven as we follow Heath through his summer and his decisions. It’s very clean with no sex, but a beautiful, bittersweet romance with a satisfying ending.

If you like the 1920 prohibition era, coming of age, new adult, clean stories, I think you will like this one!

Not every love story is a romance novel.

For Jules Burns, a lonely baker, it is the memory of his deceased husband, Andy. For Teddy Flores, a numbed-to-the-world accountant who accidentally stumbles into his bakery, it is a voyage of discovery into his deep connections to pleasure, to the world, and to his own heart.

Alysia Constantine’s Sweet is also the story of how we tell stories—of what we expect and need from a love story. The narrator is on to you, Reader, and wants to give you a love story that doesn’t always fit the bill. There are ghosts to exorcise, and jobs and money to worry about. Sweet is a love story, but it also reminds us that love is never quite what we expect, nor quite as blissfully easy as we hope.
