Only a select few in the human world knew of the existence of the V-Unit, a small group of highly trained Marines – who happened to be vampires. And it would have stayed that way. But when events in the vampire world, threatened the stability of the human world, the powers that be called for the unit’s specialized services.

An intrepid war correspondent, Bronson Rudan, who’d seen more than his fair share of fighting, stumbles across the unit by accident, and is drawn into their world. Bronson has no problem with that, given that he gets to spend time with a hunky Marine Lieutenant, Sarge. Although he won’t remember any of this when they’re through.

At least, that was the plan…

Max Vos chats about The V-Unit!

Howdy y’all. Thanks for letting come for a visit.

I’ve been asked how The V Unit came about. So sit back. Kick your shoes off and I’ll tell ya.

In September of 2012, I was just starting out. I’d had one short story published and didn’t know the first thing about writing. The friend who pushed me into writing wanted me to do a NaNo writing challenge with her. Now for those who don’t know what NaNo is, it is a group of people who want to write a book and need motivation. The challenge is to write an entire novel in thirty days.

October first came and went and I still had no clue as to what to write about. I had mentioned to her that the one thing I would never write about is vampires. I mean, after Anne Rice’s Interview With a Vampire, who could top that? So she double-dog-dared me to do a vampire story.

With the seed planted, I started out with a vague idea of a storyline. I’d recently watched a show on Marine’s so I combined the two. Once I had the key characters flushed out, the story wrote itself.

I basically wrote the entire body of the book in three weeks. I started a week later and finished with a day left. Granted, there was a lot of editing that needed to be one and some polishing work like you wouldn’t believe.

With only three weeks to work with, it made writing and doing research rather challenging. I wrote like made in the mornings and in the afternoons did nothing but research. There is on scene in particular that particularly enjoyed writing. I took it from an actual medieval document. For those who have already read the book, you probably know what I’m talking about.

This particular document was a big issue with the editors. They kept wanting to edit it to a more modern-day English. I finally had to tell them to leave that section alone, I wasn’t going to change a single word. In the end, I was right.

Because I was so new, the editing process took forever. I would learn a bit more, go back and work on it some, then put it away. Finally, I got to the point where I was confident enough to really go to work on it and after almost two years, I released it. Yep, it took that long.

Another question I’ve been getting: Is there a sequel coming of The V Unit? Ill never tell.

Review: Bronson Rudan is a war correspondent investigating mysterious deaths in the Afghan Mountains when he stumbles across the answer on home soil. David ‘Sarge’ Farragut is the leader of the V-Unit, a team of Marines chosen to become vampires and eliminate enemy targets, but their kills didn’t go as unnoticed as their bosses hoped. Called back to America to sort out trouble in the vampire world Sarge stumbles across a journalist about to break a story connected to his unit, Bronson after discovering Sarge’s secret offers a solution and it draws Bronson further into the vampires world… where a rogue is on the hunt.

This is a great vampire/military story that has a touch of political intrigue, violence and plenty of hot sex! Bronson stumbles over a huge story when he is in Afghanistan and when he returns to America he plans to dig as deep as he can and write a story, but before he can he is dragged into a world he never imagined, but the bonus is he gets to be near Sarge. Sarge is tasked to look for rogue vampires in Washington D.C. but gets more than he bargained for when a reported stumbles across him ‘working’, as the two work and play together Bronson helps the V-Unit uncover the truth behind the rogues and becomes a target from a jealous ex-lover.

I really enjoyed this story and the twists and storyline; we are kept on our toes for a while with the rogues and I enjoyed how Bronson began to help the vampires. The relationship between Bronson and Sarge is extremely hot with their chemistry being instant and passionate. The story is very easy to follow and we are never left out of what is happening, it moves along quickly and is fast paced with the relationship and storyline blending well together. There is plenty of hot sex throughout the book with a multitude of partners and even a threesome and voyeurism thrown in, but don’t be mistaken Bronson and Sarge are a great couple who do love each other.

There is gruesome punishment in this story towards the end *which was so cool* and there is also a violent rape, so you have been warned. Now while I really did enjoy this story I was a little bit off-put by the victims reaction to the rape, the handling of the aftereffects of the rape were glossed over and the victim brushed off what happened, even going so far as to plead for mercy for the attacker… now me, I’d have wanted him hung up by his balls, but that’s me. That isn’t to say the attacker didn’t get what was coming to him because he did, it was just the victim’s reaction I had a hard time dealing with. Other than that this is a pretty great story.

I recommend this to those who love military vampires, a great storyline, political intrigue, danger, violence, hot sex pouring off the pages, a relationship built on trust and a brilliant ending.
