Toby Dallow followed his employer, mentor, and friend, Edwin Aldridge, to the small mountain town of Stone Ridge, Colorado. While he’d never begrudge Edwin the bond he has with his wolf shifter mate, Toby longs for something like that of his own. When a handsome stranger picks him up in a grocery store, at first, he thinks it’s a joke. Learning the man is sincere, Toby takes advantage. After all, he thinks not too many sexy studs are into overweight science geeks.
Blamed for something he didn’t do, Tullion Kuznetsov is on the run. Traveling back roads in search of a safe place to hole up, he stops for supplies. His vampire senses fixate on the blood of a short, plump human browsing the cereal aisle. Drawing closer, mixed feelings assault him when he realizes he’s finally found his beloved. Unable to resist his other half’s siren call, Tullion embraces the gift Fate has given him…at least, for one night. Then, he’ll need to walk away. After all, how can he, in good conscience, involve the shy, quiet Toby in his problems?

Review: This is part of the Wolves of Stone Ridge series and they need to be read in order. Each story is intertwined with each other, but focuses on a new romantic couple. It gives you an insight into their amazing world and lives. I always love Charlie’s books. She gives you characters that you will fall in love, cheer on in their conquest, want to fight besides them when defending their mates and well the true reason is that she gives you sexy men every time. I grew up reading m/f romance stories and it wasn’t till about two years ago when I started reading gay romance. I have got to tell you that I enjoy them more and Charlie has been one of the reasons for that. She gives you such a great story line that involves love, a bit of pain, some danger, and a lot of excitement.
Tullion like many others made the mistake of entering his coven leader’s room, seeing his body and taken the knife out of him to try to save him. Now we all know what happens to humans who make that mistake, but for Tullion it meant he had to run and try to find out who set him up. Three month’s on the run with no idea who had betrayed him, he ends up in Stone Ridge. Stopping at the store got him more than just the food he needed, he had found his beloved. After one night with his mate, he runs fearing the vampires he senses.
Toby was a human who had basically been adopted by the shifters. So he finds a sexy man hitting on him, he is shocked to find out that this man was his. Then the idiot ups and leaves him, thinking that he was protecting Toby. Toby is just not some little human, he has a brain. Now all he has to do is to get his mate back.
I loved the way the characters when they seem more like a person I hang around with. Toby is not one of those tall, well-built men with perfect abs and butt. He is tender, gentle, a scientist, geeky with a bit of weight on him. He is perfect to Tullion and Tullion knows that he is in love with his beloved.
I would recommend reading this book to everyone who loves the paranormal world, dies to get their hands on shifters and vampires, love the protective side that they have for their mates, the excitement, action, and dangerous situations. This story, as most of Charlie’s books captured my attention the moment I started reading and kept it all the way to the end. It gave me everything that I could possibly want in a story and I cannot wait to read the next one in this amazing series.
