Love begins at the most unexpected moment…

Carter Hausemann and Eddie Canales are embarking on a new romance. They know they’re compatible sexually. Now it’s time to find out if they’re meant for each other—and a third man, because Carter has always known what he’s needed. He’d just been afraid to reach for it.

Eddie will do whatever it takes to make Carter happy, and since he’s not the jealous type as long as he’s included, he’s more than willing to see if a relationship can work between three men. But first he and Carter need to concentrate on them.

Dare Habrock has the microbrew everyone’s talking about. He also has a secret that has kept him from having a lover in far too long.

When these three meet, they begin to understand that love flourishes in the most unexpected moments.

But someone is determined to destroy every bit of joy they have.

Reader Advisory: This books contains scenes of multiple male ménage, light BDSM and references to fisting.

Hi, I’m Bailey and I’ve got a new book out, Unexpected Moments. It’s a follow-up to the short story, Unexpected Places, that debuted in Totally Bound’s new What’s His Passion? imprint. It continues the story of Eddie and Carter, along with new developments in their relationship. I don’t want to give too much away 😀

If you purchase the book at Totallybound.com , there’s extra content in the way of a Bonus Scene, author interview, and a kind of illegible autograph. I tried, lol.

Today I’m blogging about the challenges of writing a ménage story. I love writing them, though I didn’t used to. The first time I did it was for a blog story and I was so stressed out over it!

Now I can chill and write them, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t…problems. Thank goodness for the amazing editors and proofreaders that have worked on my books. They seriously rock, and I appreciate them so much.  They’ve got to have more patience than anyone else I know.

But on to the post– I’ve got a Top 5 list for it! So here we go!

  1. Keeping the names applied to the correct characters. I suck at this. I can’t even remember my kids’ names, and frequently call my grandkids and the dogs by each other’s name. Don’t ask what I call the Hubs. That all just depends on too many factors to get into. (Just kidding. He’s a sweetheart.)
  2. Developing the deeper backstories on more characters. They need histories, dramas, traumas, things to make them interesting. This has to be done in a way so as not to be a series of info dumps. Since that requires concentration and keeping track of whose past belongs to which character, well, remember, I can’t even keep my kids’ names straight.
  3. Body parts. Okay, that sounds like something from a horror flick, but you know what? It can be horribly complicated writing about three (or more, though I’m too scared to try that) men having sex with each other. Making sure to keep track of whose body part is doing something to someone else can be challenging.
  4. Oh man, that leads to: names for genitalia. Yes. That is an issue. I won’t start throwing the words out there. Those who read my books know them, heh. Three guys have lots of dangly bits and orifices to write about and to describe. Then add in the problem of—
  5. Pronouns vs Names vs Pronouns vs ACK! He reached and handed him the lube that Ed liked. Carter took it from him. He opened it. That’s three guys. Do you use names in every sentence? Pronouns? Numbers?? Well, you write it and try to have a good balance of both. It’s got to be sensible but not mind-numbingly repetitive.

There are more challenges to writing ménages, but in the end, ménages are a lot of fun to write—and read! The fun vastly outweighs any bumps along the writing way. Plus, the research? It’s the bomb!

Review: This story is part of a series (Unexpected) and is best read in order. Carter and Eddie are building on a relationship after they got together on a hiking trip, it’s time to see if they could really make something work between them and to also explore the desire they both have to bring a third into what they are building. Eddie knows he will do anything to make Carter happy and bringing a new man into their budding relationship is fine as long as they also get to know each other and build a base between them to work on… and because Eddie finds it hot when Carter dances with other men. Dare is the man they both find appealing when they visit his microbrewery, but Dare has a secret that has left him without a lover for many years. But as their relationship begins to grow someone from Carter’s recent past has no intention of letting Carter find happiness with anyone but him.

Oh this is a fantastic story where we catch up with Carter and Eddie from Unexpected Places and we see them go after what they both dream of. First off I think it would be best to read Unexpected Places first as it is the foundation to this story, while Unexpected Moments can be read as a stand-alone many events mentioned are from the first story. For those of you who haven’t read Unexpected Places then Carter is an accountant who enjoys hiking, he would love to be in a polyamorous relationship and he has also had some creepy moments with one of his work colleagues. Eddie is a ranger who loves his job and he doesn’t mind sharing his men as long as he is part of it. They are in the very first stages of their relationship after a bump in the road and we now see how that relationship progresses.

Carter and Eddie move slowly as they get to know each other, yes they have hot sex but they also try to build up the relationship so they are on the same page. They don’t run off trying to find their third, it’s more like they are just keeping an open mind for if they find someone who they think will fit. Carter is also having some worries as he sometimes feels like he is being watched, and that leads to some trouble later for both Eddie and Dare. Now when they first meet Dare you can tell that they are both interested and that Dare is attracted to them both, but with Dare there is no jumping straight into bed as Dare has his own past that has left him wary.

I really enjoyed seeing Eddie and Carter again, we now get to see how their relationship is progressing and how they manage to bring Dare into their still budding relationship without it damaging what they are building together. We also get a touch of danger as Carter is stalked and Eddie and Dare are both targeted as well. We get to see a fair amount of hot sex, as first Carter and Eddie explore Carter’s new found kink (and it is a kink, just some spanking and a touch of pain) and then as Dare and the two men explore between the three of them what they all like. So not only do we get to enjoying seeing the relationship deepen emotionally but we also get to see the growth of their sexual relationship as well. Now that isn’t the only relationship that we see as we also get to see the family relationships as we witness the impact that their threesome has on Dare’s and Eddie’s mothers.

So I recommend this to those who love building relationships, accepting love, standing up for what you want, some danger and frustration, hot sex and the beginnings of a loving three way relationship.
