Walking in the Rain

T.A. Chase

Sometimes fate brings us the right person to make our world perfect.

Dayton VanHooren is a United States senator who doesn’t really like his job. He’s been too busy to date, much less pick anyone up for sex. Being openly gay means he doesn’t have to worry about scandal, but he’s looking for something more than a good time.

Mickey O’Leary can barely think, he’s so exhausted. Working three jobs to help pay his brother’s hospital bills keeps him going and helps him forget about how lonely he is. Mickey would like to meet a nice guy who won’t run at the first hint of Mickey’s problems.

A wedding reception and a thunderstorm are catalysts to bring these two men together. What can they do when they discover the perfect man for them but fall in love?

T.A. Chats Rags to Riches

Hello. This is T.A. Chase and I would like to thank you for having me here. I write M/M romance for Totally Bound and various other publishers. I have to admit finding something to write for a guest blog is difficult. Mostly because I’m never sure what I can talk about that people might find interesting, plus I’m not sure me rambling about weird things is really what should be posted. lol

I’m here promoting my newest release with Totally Bound. Walking in the Rain is book five in the Rags to Riches series and features Dayton VanHooren, a junior US senator from New York. Mickey is the waiter he meets at Adrien and Ion’s wedding reception.

The entire series has been about very rich men meeting the perfect men for them. Of course, it turns out that said men aren’t rich or successful—by the world’s terms. Yet each of them is surviving as best they can without asking for anything to be handed to them.

My billionaires aren’t bored or unhappy with their lives. They might be a little lonely, but all-in-all, they’re happy with where they are in the world. I didn’t want to portray the stereotypical romance billionaire who is disillusioned with his life and wealth. I created six wealthy men who come from money, but haven’t rested on that coin. They’ve continued to work because they enjoy it.

Well, except for Dayton, who has come to realize politics really isn’t for him. He likes helping people through his foundation. Mickey needs his help. He’s working himself into the ground to help his brother—injured while in the military.

Each of the men that my billionaires fall in love with might not have money themselves, but they are doing their best to live their lives the way they want. Some of them are struggling like Mickey, yet they haven’t given up on their dreams.

I chose to set the first scene in the last three books at Adrien and Ion’s wedding (Remove the Empty Spaces and Close the Distance). I mean what’s more romantic than a wedding reception? It’s the most obvious place for each of them to fall in love, even though it might take them a little while to admit it.

Even though readers might be getting a little bored of billionaire story lines, I think there is an attraction with them. Who wouldn’t be fascinated with a man who can literally do anything he wanted, simply because he had the money? Go anywhere in the world without worrying about the cost? Run their own companies and foundations? There’s sexiness in having that kind of power.

It might be strange that none of the rich guys are snobby about their place in society compared to the men they end up with, but I decided not to have that be an issue in their relationships. I thought I could make other problems for them. lol

Someone mentioned that it seemed like the business world was very accepting of gay and bisexual men—or full of them. Yet I have this thought in my mind that when you have all that money, sometimes you’re isolated from the opinions of the people around you and you can live your life the way you chose instead of how others want you to live it. Probably a naïve thought, but it works for this series.

Thanks again for having me today and I hope you’ll take the time to check out Walking in the Rain.

Review: Walking in the Rain is another wonderful story in the Rags to Riches series. It is the fifth book but it actually could stand-alone, as both of these are relatively new characters.

Dayton is a new Republican Senator, even though he is openly gay. He is at the wedding reception of Ion and Adrian. A handsome waiter catches his attention, but he doesn’t have time for a relationship with his job and charities.

Mickey is working three jobs to support himself and take care of his injured brother, Seamus. He thinks the man watching him is hot, but he with all the work and taking care of his brother he barely has time to sleep. Walking to the train station the rain a car slows down and the sexy man asks if he wants a ride. Mickey takes him up on it in more ways than one.

I loved this sweet, Cinderfella type romance. I will say as I read on I saw openings for some disasters that I was a bit disappointed never came. However, the story was very interesting focusing on the budding romance between Mickey and the senator and the disability of Seamus being a war vet.

If you like sweet, endearing romances, hot gay senators, war veterans, waiters and a very sexy story this is for you!
