A Shot At Forgiveness

 (Narrated by: Robert M. Clark)

Sometimes to find love, you must first learn forgiveness.

But Isaac is tenacious and he has his heart set on the grown-up version of the boy he always wanted and never forgot. The way Isaac sees it, he and Rafi are perfect for each other, if only he could sink the most important shot of his life: his one shot at forgiveness.

(Pack 02)
 (Narrated by: Nick J. Russo)

About Cardeno C.

Cardeno C. -logoCardeno C. – CC to friends – is a hopeless romantic who wants to add a lot of happiness and a few “awwws” into a reader’s day. Writing is a nice break from real life as a corporate type and volunteer work with gay rights organizations. Cardeno’s stories range from sweet to intense, contemporary to paranormal, long to short, but they always include strong relationships and walks into the happily-ever- after sunset.

Cardeno’s Home, Family, and Mates series have received awards from Love Romances and More Golden Roses, Rainbow Awards, the Goodreads M/M Romance Group, and various reviewers. But even more special to CC are heartfelt reactions from readers, like, “You bring joy and love and make it part of the every day.”

Review: This was a really cool book to listen to. I am familiar with Cardeno C’s work and for me it has always been a bit hit and miss. This, Home Again, was just really nice to hear and had me wanting to listen to the audios of the rest of the series, if not read. I have to admit that I think I have read this title but it didn’t go down too well, but listening was just a joy. Maybe it was Alexander Collin’s wonderful narration, he dragged me right into the story and I loved listening to his voice!

Clark met the younger Noah when they were 17 and 13 respectively. Noah is the younger brother of Clark’s best friend Noah. It seemed that theirs was a romance for the ages and it is clear that these guys are destined to be together. In the present, Noah wakes up from a coma after an accident and is desperate to see his lover. It isn’t until Clark is at his side that Noah is able to settle down and Clark takes care to nurse the man even in hospital. It then becomes clear that Noah has amnesia and therefore has forgotten the last few years of his life.

The story is set up in “Past” with Clark and “Present” with Noah. To be completely honest, I found the format of each chapter being split up into past and present a bit tiring after a while. I would have preferred if the whole book was split up in past and present. But that was ok, because I just wanted to know more about what was happening in the present, so I happily pushed through and listened to the past.

You just know that there is something wrong, and this is what frustrated me about the past/present format, I wanted to know what happened and it wasn’t until half way through that we finally found out, which was when Noah started to regain his memories. To me it is still really baffling about exactly what happened because it felt out of character for our couple, but it was clear that Noah’s coma and the fact these guys are meant to be together it was great to see a HEA. Now, the problem for me is though, these guys have a broken relationship derived from the meddling of an arsehole brother who may or may not be gay (well, if he is, I want to hear his story!) with a dose of miscommunication and betrayal. Seriously, Clark let Noah off with no more than an apology after Clark gives a really flimsy explanation. I mean it makes sense – maybe – but needed a bit more depth.

That reminds me, there is some very light BDSM in this book, which may or may not appeal to some people. I personally liked it. It was basically just some rough play and not much else.

This was really nice and sweet story. If you want to read about two guys that belong together find their way to one another, you’ll really enjoy this, especially if you like the whole amnesia plot device. In this new edition there is a bonus chapter written after the DOMA ruling and it was just really nice to catch up with the guys again as well as get a glimpse into another couple that feature in the Home series.

Review: I have recently discovered that there is something so joyful about listening to a Cardeno C audio book. While I can’t always get into the author every time I read her books, after 4 audio books in a row, I have found a new appreciation for Cardeno C. I also happed to love Robert M Clark’s narration, absolutely spot on and totally adding to the sexual tension in the story.

Rafi Steiner was hurt during high school by Isaac Jones, the boy he saw as his constant bully and now recently an NBA superstar. Now he is all grown up, Rafi is a lawyer and living away from his small hometown. When Rafi sees Isaac for the first time in years Rafi is wonderfully sarcastic but there is a scary element of how much Isaac insinuates himself into Rafi’s life. The question is, can Rafi overcome all the weird things happening where Isaac is concerned, as well as getting over the past, and possibly be with Isaac for a HEA?

A Shot of Forgiveness is the perfect mix of sweetness, smoking hot sex as well as coming to terms with the past. Ok, so Isaac came off as a bit stalkerish and he is possessive in the first bit of the story but that’s ok, I’m – perhaps irrationally – letting it slide because I really liked him in the end.

People that are especially not into insta-love stories are not going to like this. I suspect that Isaac’s actions will be even more stalker-like than they seemed to me. But then again, it is a story. Let us suspend disbelief for a little bit, see Isaac as a guy madly in love and not a creep, because even a stalker needs a HEA.

Review: I love nothing more than to read a romance with some smoking hot wolf shifters and this story was just totally awesome. Being that this on my list of four audio titles by Cardeno C, I think she is definitely an author I find I connect to better when I am listening to the audio book rather than reading. Odd, I know, but that’s how it is.

The story follows Wesley. He was born an alpha wolf and the only alpha in the pack, so he safely assumed that he would one day become his uncle’s successor. But for some reason his pack see him having a scar on his stomach as a weakness. Then one day Wesley finds out he has been traded for another alpha from the almost reclusive Red River pack. Red River is more spiritual than other packs and as such their connection to fate and the earth is more important to this pack. After all, Red River alpha Jobe Root believes that it is fate that his mate has come to Red River. But poor Wesley is confused, he assumes he is going to be the alpha, yet at the same time finds it odd because alpha wolves do not have a fated mate unlike other wolves. It just seems that Red River do things differently.

Wesley and Jobe work really well together. I love that they are both alpha personalities and I love the sexual tension between the pair. They work really well together. There are a couple minor characters, but I won’t name them etc. because it will give away plot points, but I have to say I also loved the alpha that moved to Wesley’s home pack, Purple Sky, from Red River. I suspect I need to go back to book 1 of the series because we are actually given hints about the storyline happening there but I assume that both stories are occurring at the same time. I hope he gets a story too because it seems like in book 1 he might actually get a bit of heartbreak.

I have a lot of questions, like how Wesley didn’t know anything about his situation… was it Wesley who didn’t learn about the implications or was it Wesley’s pack that were a bit backward (they don’t believe in mates for alphas after all) and the apparently secluded Red River pack that is doing everything right? I don’t know.

Overall, this was a fantastic story and fans of wolf shifter stories, with a touch of m-preg, will not be disappointed.
