Elijah’s Ghost

(A Wizard’s Touch 04)

by

Amber Kell

It only takes one event to change the world.

Elijah Trenton had always been considered a weak wizard. With little magic and an overpowering father he’d expected to spend his life teaching. When an accident reveals his ability to talk to the dead, new possibilities open up.

Devin Stewartson had been eyeing Elijah for months. The shy redhead drew his eye from that first day, and only the thought of a relationship had him shying away. When Elijah saves Devin’s life, Devin decides that some things are worth a chance.

Old enemies and new adversaries try to tear the two men apart, but love can withstand most anything and even death can’t part two men fated to be together.

Amber Kell Chats A Wizard’s Touch

I want to thank MM Good Book Reviews for being one of my stops.

I have to say Elijah’s Ghost has turned out to be one of my favorite books in the Wizard’s Touch Series so far. I enjoyed writing about Elijah’s character and his transition from not knowing about his abilities to being a powerhouse wizard. Devin’s attraction to Elijah almost gets him killed but Elijah isn’t about to let even death part him from his beloved.

Devin is the second of the triplets to find a happy ending. The trio has been a prominent during the entire series making their debut appearance in Jaynell’s Wolf. I sometimes get fans asking if the straight brother, Dean, will get his own book but as it’s a m/m series I won’t be giving him one of his own. He will however have a relationship in my fifth book and I’ll make sure to give him a happy ending.

I like to write series because then you can check in with characters from previous books. They are like old friends and it’s fun to see if their relationships are still on track. You never can tell what troubles might pop up along the way.

My favorite stories are to read and write are those where love can overcome any obstacle no matter how impossible the odds.

Elijah’s Ghost is the fourth in the eventually six book Wizard’s Touch Series. I’ve had some fans email me wanting to know what happens to everyone after they leave school. I’ll be including that in the sixth book.

Excerpt:

The campus police requested all students to stay until they got everyone’s statement. The last person to arrive was Headmaster Candine. After consulting with the medics, she beckoned Eli and Porter out of the room.

Eli sighed. He longed for his bed, and to start the day over. If only there were a magical rewind switch.

“What happened here?” the headmaster asked. She stared directly at Eli as if he had had something to do with the electrical attack.

Eli pointed at the door. “Lightning came through there then shot around the room before vanishing. Ask anyone. I don’t know why it happened, but it did.”

The others were watching him as if he were guilty in some manner. Used to being blamed for pretty much everything, Eli refused to take responsibility for this one. He wasn’t a killer.

He folded his arms across his chest. Eli had nothing to hide, but he wouldn’t be bullied either. Headmaster Candine had a reputation for being fair—why was she staring at him as though he’d done something wrong?

“The other students say you were the one who told them to duck.” She narrowed her eyes as if trying to read his mind.

“Yes.” No point in denying it—there were a dozen other students who would point him out.

“How did you know to do that? Are you clairvoyant?”

Any other school and he would’ve thought the headmaster was being sarcastic. At this university it could be a genuine condition.

“No, ma’am,” Eli replied. “I only knew because the teaching assistant told me to get down.”

Why didn’t she ask Porter these questions? Instead she kept her gaze on Eli as if he were the only one there. Porter could’ve just as easily told her about the incident. Neither of them knew much.

“What assistant?” Candine asked.

“I don’t know her name. She stands at the front for every lecture and breaks down the lessons so we know what the hell the professor is talking about.”

Candine looked at him as though she’d never seen Eli before in his life. “Eli, Professor Kalvin didn’t have an assistant.”

“Sure, she’s right there.” Eli pointed to where the assistant stood. She looked lost, clutching her signs. Her eyes swept the room as if checking over the students, yet she hadn’t stepped forward and talked to any of them directly. Strange.

“I don’t see anyone,” the headmaster argued.

A shimmering glow appeared beside the assistant and Eli watched as his dead professor introduced himself to her. The two shook hands and exchanged words too quietly for Eli to overhear.

Oh fuck.

Eli just figured out why no one else had seen his helpful lady.

“Never mind. I think she’s a ghost.” Eli’s entire perspective had changed. He could see ghosts. When had that started happening?

About Amber

Amber Kell has made a career out of daydreaming. It has been a lifelong habit she practices diligently as shown by her complete lack of focus on anything not related to her fantasy world building.

When she told her husband what she wanted to do with her life he told her to go have fun.

During those seconds she isn’t writing she remembers she has children who humor her with games of ‘what if’ and let her drag them to foreign lands to gather inspiration. Her youngest confided in her that he wants to write because he longs for a website and an author name—two things apparently necessary to be a proper writer.

Despite her husband’s insistence she doesn’t drink enough to be a true literary genius she continues to spin stories of people falling happily in love and staying that way.

She is thwarted during the day by a traffic jam of cats on the stairway and a puppy who insists on walks, but she bravely perseveres.

Review: This was an amazing story. Each book in the A Wizard’s Touch Series focuses on a different romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, we recommend reading the series in sequential order. It keeps me from getting a bit lost in the stories and gives me an insight in to their world. A world that captured my attention from the start and kept it all the way to the end. I love the way each character just mixes with the others. How fast they are to defend what is theirs and what they believe.

Elijah’s family always considered him weak and loved to remind him of it. Sitting in class, he manages to save his classmates from serious harm and even death. The problem was the woman who warned him turned out to be a ghost. It would seem Elijah has come up with another power. A very serious power according to those around him. He was a necromancer. Too bad, it would not get him the man he wanted. He didn’t think Devin even noticed him.

Devin did more than noticed Elijah. He was attracted to the man. However, he was in fact on the shy side. His brothers told him to go for it, ask Elijah out. Elijah decided, with the encouragement of his roommate to ask Devin out first. Devin had been staring at him for months but Elijah had not realized it. These two sure are oblivious of certain things around them. Then the problems start. It would seem that not only is Elijah’s family jerks, but so are most of his classmates. Trying to strengthen his gifts, he ends up not only not sending an evil spirit to hell, but also managed to get Devin possessed.

He is actually the most powerful necromancer they had seen in a while. Now all he has to do is to protect the man he has fallen in love with. Even if it means he has to go to hell to fight.

I loved this story and cannot wait to get my hands on the next one. Amber gives you stories that seem to flow from the pages of a book to your imagination. Here, two young men are struggling with their desires, their friendship, and their growing attraction for each other. You get to learn about them and find yourself falling in love with them. It captures your attention from the moment you open the book and keeps it all the way to the end. It is like you are in the story with them, learning about each other, falling in love, celebrating their first kiss with them, their fight to keep each other alive and learning how to trust.

I would recommend reading this story. It gives you everything you would want in a story. It gives you two very sexy men, fragile trust, passionate kisses, hot sex, excitement, adventure, and just a touch of danger. I always look forward to getting a hold of Amber’s books. I would recommend reading this book, if you want a world just a touch different from the one you are living. I love her gift at telling such an amazing story.

  1. Love this series, and am excited to hear that there will be at least 2 more books and that Dean will get a HEA too, he deserves it after Lisa dying.
