Blurb: Ordinary human Dave Rush and his psychic brother have spent their entire lives running away from a pro-human government. When Dave finds out the government wants his brother’s head on a platter, he takes his brother and runs. Dave’s spent his entire life being told that paranormals consider mere humans like him as prey. But when there’s no one else to turn to, Dave takes the risk of a lifetime and seeks the den of monsters for sanctuary.

For over a decade, the Devil Hills wolves have closed off their territory to outsiders, but the scent of his mate draws werewolf enforcer Forrest to find Dave. Forrest knows his community doesn’t allow humans in for a reason. Dave might be his undoing but once a Devil Hills wolf stakes his claim on a mate, there’s no stopping the hunt until he makes Dave his in every sense of the word.

Review: Dave loves being a police officer, even though he was just getting started. He was a normal human who had a deep secret. His brother, Daryl is a very special man with psychic powers. That placed them in danger at all times. In a world where paranormal’s were hunted down and either killed or put into rehabilitation.

Esper’s were humans with abilities that could heal or kill those around them. The government placed them into places that rehabilitates them but leaves them like a robot, with no emotions. Dave did not want that for his little brother, so when his chief started asking questions, he knew it was time to run. To go to the one place that might just also get them killed.

Forrest was a powerful wolf shifter who has just found his mate, a human. His alpha hated humans and would kill them on sight. He was about to do the one thing that could get them both killed, go against the alpha’s orders.

This is not one of those happy pack type of books. The pack is a hard place and they don’t have much patience for others. They come off very cold and heartless, especially the alpha. It is a very unique story with a different feel to it. It caught my attention from the moment I started reading it and kept it all the way to the end. I can’t say that it gave me everything I could ask for but it came pretty close. It has a dark tone to it that I didn’t really care for, but it worked for this story.

I liked Dave quite a bit but it took a bit of time to get into Forrest, however he was perfect for his mate. It felt like the story was missing something but I could not tell what it was. It will be one of those stories that will be read more than once though.

I enjoyed it quite a bit and would recommend it. I can’t wait to start on the next book.
