Blurb: Nothing beats getting out of the concrete jungle and into the quiet of the forest. Website designer Scottie Ness is taking a well-deserved vacation from the grindstone, and he plans to spend it in the solitude of Washington’s Gifford Pinchot National Forest around Mt. Adams. He’s prepared for everything—except the lightning storm that traps him in a wildfire.

The firefighter who rescues him sustains serious injuries and ends up in the hospital. Jax Quintero might be abrasive, but the guy saved his life, and Scottie wants to thank him. As they spend time together during Jax’s recovery and exploring the state’s landmarks when he’s released from the hospital, Scottie discovers there’s more to Jax than a smart-ass adrenaline junkie. Jax reassesses his opinion of Scottie as an arrogant city boy who has no business in the mountains. Though Jax’s wounds prevent them from taking things as far as they’d like for a while, they can’t deny the heat building between them—and this is one fire they don’t want to put out.

Review: Scottie loves hiking and taking photos of nature, but he knows better than to be unprepared unfortunately not even Scottie could prepare for a lightning storm, broken tree limbs or the wildfire heading his way. Jax is miffed when his team has to search for a hiker during a wildfire, and he’s furious when he gets injured rescuing the injured hiker.

Scotty and Jax start to become close when they meet in hospital, well, after Jax softens up. Scotty visits the man who saved him often and gets to know the man under the abrasive attitude; Jax admits he might have jumped to conclusions about the man he rescued and enjoys getting to know the man, and it isn’t long before the two embark on a relationship.

This is a great story of two men meeting in dire circumstances and gradually falling in love. Scottie and Jax are great characters, they have a rocky start but quickly become an item, there’s a lot of build-up with the relationship before anything sexual happens and that’s mainly because of Jax’s knee injury but it’s lovely to see them building their relationship on friendship and really getting to know each other first.

Jax is abrasive when we first meet him, he’s fighting a wildfire and a hiker’s missing, he’s frustrated and he comes across as a complete dick but we learn quickly that it’s mainly because he’s worried for his team. Scotty is really easy going and although he did everything he could to keep himself safe during his hike he still falls victim to nature.

The setting for the story comes across vividly with great detail, the roar of the fire, the stifling heat and the fear as flames roar towards their fire shelter is described beautifully.

I recommend this to those who love men growing to love each other, who adore a touch of danger in their stories, who love men getting to know each other before they jump into bed, and a very happy ending.

Review: I’ve read a few Tamsin Baker books in a matter of weeks and I have to say that I quite enjoy the stories. They are simple and to the point. This story will draw a lot of people because the MCs are the two dreamiest occupations when coupled with sexy men – fireman and a doctor.

Obviously the titular, Dr Zach, is the doctor of this piece. He’s an emergency room doctor who got to where he was because of his dedication to his study and his career. And that is not unexpected for a doctor, really. Through his fire fighter brother, Zach meets Dylan and at first treats him at the fire station when Dylan refuses to go to hospital. The two of them give into the sparks and hot sexual tension between them. The story then becomes a tale of two guys getting to know each other, having hot sex and trying to reconcile their personal and professional lives.

Despite the fact that I enjoyed this book, there were a number of issues that did come up in the course of the book. I think I found comfort in some of the Australian-isms that came up throughout the story. But then, right at the end there was mention of a road trip to Vegas – wait, what? Are they road tripping to Brisvegas (a name given to Brisbane, Queensland to pay them out)? This book really needed to have the setting specified if the author was to write in their native tongue, so to speak. If we had known from the outset that we are town X, USA it would have been easier to swallow.

The other thing was that the main fight that happened between them, and there were a couple other spats, but it was all down to frustrating miscommunication and me trying to figure out how they could not understand each other’s schedules. However, I did see the cause for the conflict well enough, it was Zach’s devotion to his work over his life, and that could have probably been explored better.

Over all, the story was enjoyable, just take it on face value and you will find that this is a fun way to pass some spare time.

Review:   Drew has two goals for his life. 1: to become a smoke Jumper for the elite Loveland Smoke Jumper team and follow his father’s footsteps.  2: to win over the man of his dreams, Wesley Payton, whom he has had a crush on for ten years.

Wesley is a seasoned Smoke Jumper. He doesn’t mess around with the men in his team. He hasn’t really ever had a long-term relationship, but he isn’t the player his team thinks he is. The right one just hasn’t come along yet.  He is determined to ward off the advances the hot Drew makes to him.  But, is that one fire that could burn out of control and he can’t seem to extinguish? I’m not telling. You should read this one and find out!

What’s not to love about this book?  It’s full of sexy firefighters, action, adventure, suspense and romance. The characters are deep and well-developed, the story moves fast and smooth, and the man-sex is on fire! I also loved the way the romance was treated like it was a raging fire also.  The whole story is hot and exciting.

Recommendation:  If you like younger man in love with an older man, a man determined to get what he wants, Firefighters, action and suspense, and hot mansex, then this is for you. I highly recommend it!

Blurb:  Lee Staunton and Dirk Krause have been seeing each other for a couple of months when they get the bad news: the firehouse they work at will be closed unless they can come up with the money to complete some maintenance and repairs. The union wants to stand and fight. There’s just one problem: the only suggestion for how to raise the money is Lee’s. And Dirk hates it.

Unfortunately, everyone else thinks Lee’s “Chicken and Beefcake” dinner—which they’ll attend in just their hats, boots, and fire pants—is a great idea, and Lee goes ahead with the organizing. But interference from the borough council and low ticket sales threaten to rain on Lee’s parade. If Dirk can’t put aside his pride and stubborn nature for one night, it could cost both him and Lee their jobs—never mind their relationship.

Review:  This is a sequel to Andrew Grey’s previous novel, Redemption by Fire.  In this book, we continue the story of Lee and Dirk as they worry about the security of their jobs at the firehouse and attempt to forge ahead in their relationship with each other.  The firehouse they both work for is struggling financially and the possibility that it may be closed permanently is starting to worry them.  Lee comes up with the idea for a Chicken and Beefcake dinner where the firefighters will serve the townspeople dinner in just their pants, hats, boots and suspenders.  The hope is that the women of the town will pay good money to be served by topless firefighters.   Great idea, but Dirk hates it and makes his opinion known very loudly.

Lee is hurt by Dirk’s refusal to support his idea and I must admit Dirk comes off as a bit of an ass at the beginning of the story.  Lee is sweet and determined to help out his station as best he can, even without the support of his partner.  He brings together the fundraiser dinner with the help of an assortment of firefighters and friends and a lot of hard work.  I love the glimpses we get of the supporting characters, especially Billy, who tries hard to turn a bunch of studly firefighters into accomplished wait staff!  It was downright amusing to read that section!

Dirk is at times distant and angry and then he turns around and gets all sweet and supportive.  I am not sure if I want to hate him or keep reading to get more of the sweet and mushy part of the personality!  The passion between Lee and Dirk is intense, but there are a number of moments that are tender and gentle.  I am really looking forward to the next installment of this series to see how these two men develop as a couple.  And, hopefully, we will see more of the secondary characters that were introduced in this book!

Blurb:   Dirk Krause is an asshole of the first degree. His life is a hell of his own making, and he makes everyone around him just as miserable. When he’s injured on the job while fighting a fire, he’s nearly unbearable to the hospital staff, and of course no one from his unit cares enough to visit.

Lee Stockton is the new guy at the station, so he gets saddled with the job of bringing Dirk a sympathy bouquet from the guys at the firehouse.  To Dirk’s surprise, Lee sees through him like a pane of glass and doesn’t take any of his crap.  Lee’s determined to get Dirk to stop being a dick just to push everyone away. When their fighting turns to fucking, will the fireworks shine brightly on a possible relationship or leave them with nothing but ashes?

Review:  The opening scene of this book is a gripping one with Dirk, one of the main characters, struggling to get a baby to safety in a raging house fire.   While he is successful at his mission of saving the child, he lands himself in the hospital due to an assortment of injuries.  He gets a visit from Lee Stockton, one of his fellow firefighters, who arrives with an arrangement of flowers from the guys from the firehouse.  And apparently the only reason Lee is there is because he is the newbie and had no choice.  Seems like Dirk is a major asshole with an attitude problem and no one really likes him enough to make the trip to see him.  Dirk isn’t really surprised and continues with the crappy attitude even during Lee’s visit.  Lee, however, sees right through the attitude and correctly deduces that the major source of Dirk’s anger is the fact that he is gay and trying to hide it.

Between working in a rather homophobic career and having an extremely conservative father, Dirk doesn’t really feel comfortable outing himself.   Lee is a rather decent guy and even after Dirk is released from the hospital, he tries to visit him at home and help out as much as possible.  Unfortunately, Dirk is still pretty much a pain in the ass although the heat of anger quickly turns to passion and they find themselves burning up the sheets on a regular basis.  Lee isn’t going to stay Dirk’s dirty little secret, though, and the two of them have some serious issues to work out if they are going to find happily ever after.

I think, in general, I liked the story line and writing style in this book.  My major problem was that I thought it was a bit rushed.  I really would have loved to see a chapter or two before the fire and hospital scene to introduce Dirk and Lee and get to know them better.  I actually thought at the beginning of the book that Dirk was a total newbie to the gay lifestyle which I learned was not the case a little later into the story.  There was a lot of anger and passion between the two men which made for a rather intense story.  I also would have like to see the ending stretched out a little bit longer.  Just a wrap up to the relationship would have been nice.  Overall, I think this is a good story and I do so love the closeted firefighter theme.  And the cover is an absolutely beautiful thing….absolutely drool worthy!

Blurb:  Dark and brooding firefighter Brad Archer has spent months denying his attraction to his roommate, police officer Gavin Connolly. Gavin is just the kind of guy he likes: tall, tough, and buff enough to actually handle Brad’s big size and rough nature.

To hide his real feelings Brad holds the handsome, seemingly straight cop at arms’ length until a shooting at work leaves Gavin a little too vulnerable to ignore. What starts out as a simple attempt to comfort his roommate blows up into something wild, sexual, and wholly unexpected when Gavin wants more from Brad than a strong firefighter’s shoulder to lean on.

The sexual magnetism drawing the two of them together forces secrets to be revealed, and though the sex is mind-blowing it may not be worth weathering the storms their relationship could stir up. In order to protect him, Brad realizes he loves Gavin enough to let him go. The problem is—the stubborn cop may not let him.

Publisher’s Note: This book contains explicit sexual situations, graphic language, and material that some readers may find objectionable: bondage, male/male sexual practices.

Review:  You might not know it, but Kele Moon is the only writer who ever made bondage sexy, for me.  So you can imagine my surprise that while Packing Heat is uber sexy, not a single whip is in the mix.  There is a great scene with handcuffs, but hey, Gavin is a cop…

This really was a great read.  I loved the fact that both Gavin and Brad are strong, sexy men.  Both have very dangerous jobs and can really be there for each other.  There were quite a few times when I wanted to pop the back of Brad’s head.  His thinking was a bit warped, at times.  It was okay for him to be openly gay, at the fire station, but somehow, Gavin shouldn’t have to deal with homophobic jerks on his job.  Huh?

I must admit, Gavin is my favorite.  He doesn’t really understand why Brad does it for him, but he is more than willing to explore the sexual possibilities.  And when he realizes what Brad has been trying to ignore, that they are perfect for each other, he has no problem welding those handcuffs.

Kele Moon does an amazing job of getting into her character’s head.  While it irritated the hell out of me that Brad was willing to throw his relationship away, because we spend so much time in his head, I understood where he was coming from.  Same with Gavin.  He may start out looking like your typical bi-curious guy, but he is hiding a few secrets that blow that theory out of the water.  By the end, it was hard to tell who was the seduced and who was the seducer.

This story is very well-written and has a nice pace.  The sex is steamy, rough at times, but always loving.  Not quite “gay for you”, but close.  I really enjoy Kele Moon’s BDSM Eden series, but Packing Heat is a series I will have on automatic pre-order.  I really hope she’s somewhere creating another hot couple of men looking for love in all the wrong places.  Highly recommend.
