Blurb: For Alpha Jet Gorman, discovering the origins of his pack’s newest members has provided more questions than answers. Like why would someone deliberately expose the existence of supernatural beings to the human world through in vitro fertilization? And more importantly…cui bono? Who benefits most from the Revelation? With the threat of betrayal a constant presence running through the Vieux Carré, at least Jet can count on Nico to have his back.

Ancient vampire Nico Sanzio da Urbino has been given an order to kill a werewolf—not unusual given his job as an enforcer. The problem lies in the fact the targeted Alpha is often in Nico’s bed—or vice versa—and may just be that elusive soul mate he has never quite believed in. Not to mention Jet’s blood fairly sings through Nico’s veins.

Caught somewhere between the Paranormal Odd Squad, the all-powerful Vampire Council, and a promise to his oldest friend, Nico must make a choice before someone realizes he hasn’t carried out his orders—and takes the matter out of his hands.

With the New Orleans preternatural population continuing to increase at an unnatural rate, the local Alpha and the Odd Squad’s chief enforcer should have their attention focused on maintaining the human-to-super status quo, but with things between them at an incendiary high, their mutual distraction could prove deadly—for everyone.

Review: I love this series! It just gets deeper and deeper. The twists keep coming!

It’s hard to say who the stars of the show–oops– I mean book is. This series is actually Jet and Nico, but we got a lot of all of the other characters as well. The story picks up where Tempest was killed and Artie is struggling with her death. The weekly card game is held at Moonshadows bookstore. I love all of the characters and we meet a new vampire that orders Nico to kill Jet.

I love how the relationship between Jet and Nico has developed and can’t wait for this finale!

This is part of a series and is best read in order. It is also part of a collection and I highly recommend you read them all and in order to understand it better.

If you like vampires, werewolves, ghosts, demons, mystery and some hot mansex this is for you!

Blurb: Nico Sanzio da Urbino stays busy with his Odd Squad job investigating paranormal crimes, but he’s still haunted by the idea that the usurper he killed at Jet’s pack meeting was familiar. As an ancient enforcer, it’s always possible the werewolf was a relative of someone from Nico’s past, but if he wants to make sure the local Alpha keeps his head, Nico needs to find the connection before revenge comes calling.

Running background checks as part of the upgraded security measures for his pack, Alpha Jet Gorman discovers not everyone can be accounted for in the usual manner. In fact, several of the young rogue wolves he’s ordered to his pack are from human families…with no history of a bite to account for their wolfy tendencies.

No wonder they were runaways. Before he can verify they pose no danger to the other werewolves, he must first discover the secret of their existence. A secret worth killing for.

Despite their differences, there is an undeniable connection between the ancient vampire and the young Alpha that seems to go beyond the blood they’ve exchanged—and keeps them circling around their very obvious mutual attraction. But while one man is looking for a way to move their relationship into the bedroom, the other is searching for a reason to stay true to his past

Review: This is book two in this series and book 8 in the Pulp Fiction collection. You do need to read the series in order and it would really help you understand the characters if you read the entire collection in order.

Jet is having trouble accounting for all the members in his pack. Some of the young rogues he has ordered into his pack are from human families and have no Idea how they became werewolves.
When Nico witnesses the near murder of one of the teens he helps Jett investigate. There is definitely an attraction between the two but will Jett let go of his mourning of Russ and give in to the sexy Vampire.

I love this series. I have a thing for Vampires and werewolves and this is such a good series. There is lots of drama, angst mystery and in this one there was a touch of hot man-sex.

I was biting my nails all the way through!

Needing a place to lay low and lick his wounds, Cliff visits his old friends at the Willow Springs Ranch while he considers making cowboy his new job title.

After six long months on deployment, Rhino returns to San Diego—only to discover Cliff’s gone dark and the unlikely words ‘poor judgment’ are hanging in the air. Despite the offer of a prestigious assignment, Ryan opts to track down his best friend first and finds him at the WSR…along with more questions than he ever expected. Blurb: As the time for Jamal ‘Jet’ Gorman’s first official pack meeting as the de facto Alpha nears, there are rumblings of others who would fight him to the death for the position. Jet isn’t certain that’s not a fitting way to exit this world…even if it puts the werewolves he’s sworn to protect in the hands of a ruthless killer.

A trip to the bayou with the ancient and enigmatic new vampire in town changes everything—in ways Jet would never have predicted. Now his new mission is safeguarding his late partner’s secret.

Nicolino Sanzio da Urbino—Nico to his friends, if he had any—has been undead for centuries, and given the betrayals in his own past, it shouldn’t surprise him the depths some will go to in order to seize a power to which they have no claim. His new position with the Odd Squad provides a lot of latitude to dispense justice, so when he discovers a plot to rid the local pack of their second Alpha in as many months, Nico decides it’s time to go hunting. That is until he meets Jet and everything gets…personal.

With hearts as hard as diamonds, neither man is seeking the odd connection that seems to flow between them—but the winds of change blowing through the Crescent City seem to have everyone on edge—and not all challenges are as simple as they seem.

With more and more monsters coming out of the closet, only time will tell if these two survive long enough to play the hand they’ve been dealt—before they become dust in the wind.

Review: This is part of a series and also part of a collection. It isn’t necessary to read all the series in the collection, but I suggest that you do to get the full impact and to know all the characters mentioned in each story.

This is the final story of the first round and it was awesome!

I really liked Jet and loved Nico (this is where you should read each story as I read Lees second book and was a bit lost as to who Nico was.) He is a vampire that has come to work on the Odd Squad. He has been following Jet. (I’ll let you read and see why)
Jet has recently lost his lover, the Alpha of the pack and he is receiving resistance at being the new Alpha.

There is a lot going on and lots of twists. My only issue was it seems like I should have known about Jet’s loss and how he died. But having said that. I still loved the story and it only made me want more!

If you love paranormal stories, drama, romance, suspense, vampires, and werewolves you will find it all here! I highly recommend this series (and Pulp Friction 2015 collection)

Blurb: When vegan, peace-loving, social do-gooder Park Williams stumbles across the half-dead cattle rancher who has been sabotaging the Willow Springs Ranch in the name of a homophobic militia group…there’s only one thing to do. Save his life, then share his tent. Waking to find the man’s dick pressed against his ass is just a bonus.

Tanner Triplett is in trouble. Not the your-brother-is-a-sociopathic-murderer-and-you’re-his-next-victim sort of trouble. Not even the your-father-is-trying-to-overthrow-the-federal-government-and-you’re-going-to-jail-for-helping kind of trouble. No, this is the sort of trouble that comes when you wake up with stranger’s dick in your hand. Holy fuck. How is he going to get out of this?

A sudden need to run for their lives ought to do it.

Determined to make amends, Tanner leads Park to the relative safety of the WSR, where the biggest danger should be from gun-wielding cowboys seeking revenge. Tanner hadn’t counted on sharing a room with the exotically beautiful Park or the danger to his heart when the carefully erected walls protecting his secret come tumbling down.

Review: This is book 5 and I have to say the best yet. Where they ach do stand-alone well and there is sufficient backstory you can follow alone on this one I do recommend you read at least the last two Taking Chance and Hanging Chad or at least hanging Chad.

Park is a very unique man. He works for child abuse enforcement n Flagstaff and after his last case involving Chad Ollam, a gay teacher accused of abusing his students, Park has decided to retire and take a long needed vacation to find himself and what he wants to do with his life. He has two dogs Taco and Scooby and sets off to off grid camp farther south in Arizona near the Willow Springs Ranch. He stops to let the dogs out when Scooby stumbles across a man near dead.

Tanner Triplett has done some bad things. He has tried to be as little involved as possible in his father’s crazy schemes, but his brother has pushed until he feels hopeless. Left dying in the brush, he is surprised when a beautiful man and his dogs come across him and the man refuses to leave him, spouting stuff about fates, destiny and kismets and cartwheels. Tanner knows that Park will be in danger if he stays so he takes him to Willow Springs ranch knowing he will be sent to prison if they don’t kill him first.

This book is full of action from beginning to end. It pulls together a long ongoing mystery form the other books and introduces us to park and gives us more Tanner. I was also happy Ty, Cass and Chase all played more roles in this book too. I loved how Scooby and Taco and Park’s eccentricities lighten the angst, murder and mayhem of the plot. Park and Tanner’s story was worth the wait!

If you believe in destiny or fate, like ongoing westerns, ranchers, lawmen, cooks, Navy Seals, rodeo stars, mystery, suspense, dogs, vegans, hippies, and some hot mansex. This is definitely for you

Blurb: Officer Chance Carter is pretty sure he’d still enjoy being on either end of a good ass reaming—just not the one from his supervisor that lands him on an involuntary extended vacation. Another holiday season with nothing to do except visit an old friend.

Former hospital corpsman Bryan Mitchell doesn’t feel less than honorable, but that’s what his discharge paperwork states. Now he’s down and out in Kingman, Arizona until the charity of a stranger lands him a temporary job for the holidays.

When two federal employees go missing during a highly controversial wild horse roundup, the two Willow Springs Ranch newcomers are drafted to help in the search, but if rumors of a local anti-government militia are true, Chance and Bryan may be in serious trouble—and from something far more dangerous than their mutual attraction.

Review: This is book three of the Willow Creek Ranch books. These do stand-alone fine, though you will want to go back and meet all the other characters.

I love this series. Taking Chance is the story of Chance Carter. We met him briefly in book 2. He is a friend of Holden’s. He finds himself in a bit of trouble on his job after giving Holden a bit of information. He is forced on leave so he decides to go visit Holden at willow Creek Ranch to wind down and try to decide what he wants to do with his future, since he isn’t happy with his job or life.

Bryan is new to the book and series. He was a hospital corpsman in the navy, but was caught with the admiral’s son. He was dismissed from service, took an OTH discharge to avoid court-martial and spare his lover. He finds himself with little money, no job and a broken down car, stranded in Arizona on his way to Vegas.

He stops in the VA office where he is introduced to Ty from Willow Springs Creek Ranch. Ty also being from the navy offers him a job, a place to stay and meals included in the pay. When he gets there, he finds his cabin is shared with Chance.

I really liked this book. I was hoping for Chances story and wasn’t disappointed. I really like Bryan too. This is a story of two men facing difficult changes in their lives and also a new unexpected relationship that also throws monkey wrenches in each other’s plans. I love the story lines in these books and how they do connect. I was happy to get a bit more Ty. There is a bit of mystery and suspense that introduces a new threat that I hope to see more of in the next few books. I do have to say the story didn’t go like I thought it was and I was surprised.

I can’t wait to see Chads story.

If you like, a great series, hot cowboys, secret agents, SEALS, mystery, intrigue, romance and some pretty hot man-sex this is for you.

Warning: you will look at s’mores in a new light. YUUUUMMM!

Blurb: For Chad Ollom, landing on the Willow Springs Ranch after his teaching career crashed and burned last year was a lesson in irony, considering he’d sworn off all things related to horses and cowboys after a near fatal fall as a child. Now with a new mission in life, Chad plans to bring critically ill children to the ranch for a special celebration.

Aging rodeo cowboy Jesse Duran lives life eight seconds at a time and whether its broncos or men, it’s always been get on and get off before anyone gets hurt. When he’s required to take a break from the circuit and ends up on the WSR, the enticing ass of a standoffish teacher turned contractor might just be enough challenge to keep him entertained for a week or two.

As attraction flares, personal boundaries start to crumble, and the lines between seducer and seduced begin to blur. When the series of on-going attacks against the WSR moves from sabotage to arson, Jesse steps up to help, but when Chad is forced to return to his past to face charges, the men of the WSR want to know if Jesse will stick or leave Chad hanging.

Review: This is Book 4 of the Willow Springs Creek series. They do stand alone pretty well. Though you will understand the other characters better if you have rad their stories.

Chad is working at willow springs ranch helping with construction of the new bunkers for the new children events and camps they will be hosting. Chad was a schoolteacher but when it was discovered he was gay he was accused of molesting a child. He left on his own and the case had come back that with no proof, he was guilty but he went to the ranch to clear his head and decide what to do next. He has a secret that keeps him from interacting with the ranch operation and he stays as far from the cowboys as possible.

Jesse Durant is a rough stock rider in the rodeo circuit. He is 37 and getting a bit too old to compete. He has done it all his life and the travelling from place to place and excitement of the rodeo is in his blood. A friend of his (Roy) asks him to go the Willow Springs as a favour to him and help Cass for a few weeks while his latest, very bad injury heals. He meets Chad in a Bar in a nearby town but Chad avoids his advances even though part of him is interested, he has his own no cowboy rule. Is it fate that the two are both working on the same ranch?

As much as I love this series, this one wasn’t my favourite. I was really looking forward to Chad’s story, but for some reason this one fell a little flat for me. Don’t get me wrong the story is very good, both men are so hot and sexy, the ongoing story gets tenser and tenser, but for me there were issues I can’t explain without a spoiler. I still really liked the book a lot and encourage you to read this book and this series. I am looking forward to more to the new character introduced Park.

If you like, older men/younger men, rodeo stars, teachers, ongoing series, great romance, cowboys, horses, some suspense and some pretty steamy man-sex this is for you. Oh and if you like, Twinkies….oh man, how hot is that?

Scott refuses to accept his mistake dealt a final blow to his troubled relationship with Rob, so he’s working hard to finish the apartment he plans for them to share. With odd occurrences of vandalism, a poacher, and an increasingly active inner demon named PTSD, he has plenty to keep him busy while he waits for Robby to come around.

Rob is working a lot of overtime in order to qualify for a new position as a wildland firefighter—a minor detail he decides to withhold in light of Scott’s frequent nightmares. Of course, there are a couple of other details Scott has a right to know about—if only Robby hasn’t left things too late.

Just as one man discovers his truth—the other realizes everything he’s believed is a lie. One is certain they can work things out—the other knows why they can’t. Only one of them can be right. (

Review: This book is part of the Pulp Friction 2014 Collection (book 9) and also part of a series by Laura Harner. It is the 3rd book in the fighting fire book. You really do need to read all the books in the series in order, but don’t have to read all the collection stories to follow along, though it does help to get a better knowledge of the other characters mentioned.

Robbie is trying to deal with his secret. Since in a couple of weeks, he will be bringing it with him or going to where it’s at. That decision will also affect what job offer he takes. Scott is getting better physically but his nightmares are getting worse. He is still dealing with learning to run the campground and is trying to get it ready for actual visitors.

I really love this series. One of the things I like most is the complications of Scott and Robbie’s relationship. It is definitely not run of the mill. I also like the angst and the feelings they share. I can’t wait to see if they ever get on the same page. There were a few twists in this one that had me biting my nails and my jaw dropping.

If you like, series, interactive characters, hot firemen, a little mystery, a lot of suspense, jaw-dropping surprises, and some hot mansex this is definitely for you!

Blurb: For the free-spirited Park Williams, leaving the relative safety of the Willow Springs Ranch for a remote cabin near Flagstaff to spend some quality alone time with his new boyfriend seems like a no-brainer. They can get to know each other while hiding away from the bad guys who may or may not be looking to kill his lover. At least it seems like a good idea right up until the minute he is standing on the front porch, with a man he’s known less than three weeks, and who spent two of those weeks in police custody. Oh, shit.

Tanner Triplett is having a bad month. After two attempts on his life, he’s helped put his father and brother behind bars, lost his beloved ranch, and oh yeah…stepped out of the closet in a big way. But it remains to be seen if he’s in bigger danger from the men he’s agreed to testify against, or the golden-haired, cosmic-quoting devil trying to kill him with soy-gurt.

Join Park, Tanner, and their dogs Scooby and Taco as they make the move east to the Mountain Shadows Resort to meet up with their new neighbors and join in the fun that is Pulp Friction 2014.

Review: When I started reading this book, I recognized Park and was curious. I have the Willow Springs Books and thought Park was familiar from the title of the last book. As I read on, I found out I was right and wondered if I would be totally lost reading this without having finished the WSC books. But, as I read the other books in this round of Pulp Friction, I was intrigued by the mention of Park. I will say that the book stood on it’s own, pretty well. Though, it did make me want to read the book Park is in from the other series. Just as each of these books entices you to read the rest.

I absolutely loved Park. He is a very intriguing feisty, colourful character with lots of heart. I loved that he is vegan and strict in his beliefs. Park and Tanner fit into this series seamlessly and I hope I get to see much more of them.

The story had an interesting plot, introduced the characters well and had enough backstory to fill you in and draw you in.
I recommend this if you like cowboys (yes Tanner is a cowboy), mystery, dogs, young love and interactive series this is for you.

Blurb: Twelve years ago, it was the beginning of the end of their relationship when Robby was outed to his ultra conservative parents by his college lover, Scott.

A lifetime later, a tragic accident has drawn Robby back into Scott’s life, but time and experience have created a chasm as big as the Grand Canyon. Not that Robby is trying to keep secrets from his old lover—not exactly. It’s just, with so many assumptions between them, sometimes it’s hard to know where to begin. How do you make an old friend see you for who you really are?

Trained as a firefighter, Scott has spent his life rushing headlong into dangerous situations and examining the consequences later. Now he’s surrounded by reminders of his impetuous nature. Despite the choices he’s made in the past, fate has given him a chance to start over—if he can only show Robby the truth, they can finally have the life Scott envisions.

One man is certain they can work things out—the other knows why they can’t. Only one of them can be right.

Review: Controlled burn is the second book in the Fighting fire series. I love this series and the Pulp friction collections. I like the way all the characters from each story interact. This story is about Scott and Robbie. We find a shocking detail about Robbie. I have to say I was surprised.

The story has a good deal of mystery and intrigue and it actually has a good conclusion of the mystery and a bit of cliffhanger still on the romance. I can’t wait to see where Laura takes us next on this bumpy journey.

Despite the impolite rejection, Drew knows he didn’t have the wrong impression months ago when he asked the sheriff to dance, but he never expected to have Holden’s life in his hands. Literally.

Thanks to some meddlesome matchmaking, the two men are now temporary housemates at the Willow Springs Ranch and Drew is determined to help Holden heal, both physically and emotionally. Even if it means he has to drag the other man kicking and screaming to physical therapy…and out of the closet. In fact, that might be kind of fun.

The problem is, Holden doesn’t consider himself in the closet…but not all secrets are created equal.

Book 3.5 – Ty’d Down (free short)

Ty brushed his hands on the long white apron and moved to the island counter to add more frosting to the piping bag. Cake decorating had never been his favorite chef duty, but like many cooks in the Navy, he had plenty of experience. He took another sip of coffee then began the final step of piping the white border around the edge of the top layer. He would add the already prepared red roses, last. As peace offerings went, a chocolate three-layer cake with buttercream icing wasn’t much, but Cass would forgive him. Eventually.

Today should have been their wedding day, but Ty had put a stop to all the foolishness weeks ago. For fuck’s sake, Arizona didn’t even have gay marriage. The gathering of friends for a commitment ceremony just seemed…stupid. Besides, Cass had just been caught up in the events surrounding Chance and Bryan’s rescue when he’d proposed. The truth of their relationship had been plain as day when Cass tried to take over the conversation after Bryan had been rescued. The words still echoed in his head.

“It’s my ranch…my decision…” Cass was boss and Ty the cook. Point taken. Ty wasn’t even bitter. Much. Cass was right, this was his ranch and Ty had usurped his authority—but goddamn it! No one here was better than Ty when it came to running a covert mission. Cass should have respected him enough…trusted him enough…

Book 4 – Hanging Chad

For Chad Ollom, landing on the Willow Springs Ranch after his teaching career crashed and burned last year was a lesson in irony, considering he’d sworn off all things related to horses and cowboys after a near fatal fall as a child. Now with a new mission in life, Chad plans to bring critically ill children to the ranch for a special celebration.

Aging rodeo cowboy Jesse Duran lives life eight seconds at a time, and whether it’s broncos or men, it’s always been get on and get off before anyone gets hurt. When he’s required to take a break from the circuit and ends up on the WSR, the enticing ass of a stand-offish teacher turned contractor might just be enough challenge to keep him entertained for a week or two.

Book 5 – Park’s Lot

When vegan, peace-loving, social do-gooder Park Williams stumbles across the half-dead cattle rancher who has been sabotaging the Willow Springs Ranch in the name of a homophobic militia group…there’s only one thing to do.

No…this is the sort of trouble that comes when you wake up with stranger’s dick in your hand.

About Laura

Raised in California, Laura likes it hot, which explains why she ended up in Arizona via such diverse places as Japan, Maine, and Florida, and many more places in between. After retiring from the US Navy, she found a niche working for land management agencies, including the National Park Service and the Bureau of Land Management. Though she has held many jobs around the world, her favorite was working and living in Grand Canyon National Park. Working (and eating) in New Orleans was a close second. You will find many of her books are set against the rich backdrops provided by coastal Louisiana and northern Arizona.

When asked how she started writing, Laura tells of waking on Boxing Day a few years ago, with a woman named Elena MacFarland yammering in her dreams, demanding her story be told. Despite never attempting to write fiction before that morning, Laura ignored all of the holiday visitors and the Highland Destiny series was born. She doesn’t believe it was a coincidence that the great grandmother who died when Laura was just a baby was named Elena MacFarland. Destiny does play a hand.

Laura became a full-time writer in 2012, and now she spends her time writing, watching her Arizona Diamondbacks, and working on her very own version of the Willow Springs Ranch in northwestern Arizona. She is a multi-published author of erotic romance, mystery, and urban fantasy and her books can be found at all major online retailers.”

Review: This story is part of a series and I recommend reading them in order. Bryan left the corps under a shadow and hasn’t got anything to his name, deciding on a fresh start in Las Vegas he’s on his way when he has to stop in Kingman because of car trouble, now he has to accept the charity of strangers until he has his feet under him again. Chance has to take time off to evaluate what he really wants in a job, he decides to visit Holden at Willow Springs Ranch and is surprised to discover he has a roommate. Chance and Bryan are asked to help in the search for two missing Federal agents and find more trouble than expected as they explore the attraction between them.

This is quite a good cowboy/law enforcement story. Chance and Bryan meet when they are both staying at the ranch, Bryan for work and Chance as part of a working holiday. Bryan is trying to get back on his feet after being tossed out of the corps and also from a bruised heart, Chance is trying to figure out just where he belongs in law enforcement after being disciplined for passing on sensitive information to a friend. Together they have to help in a search for missing federal agents but can what they have together survive when disaster strikes and an old flame returns?

I did enjoy this story although it felt very abrupt at times when the characters were talking, I sometimes felt like something had been cut out. The relationship between Chance and Bryan started out great and continued to gain ground really well, the storyline was good and has left a big opening for a new story, and it will be interesting to see where it goes. I was left feeling a little disappointed that no clues were left for the boys but I was overall happy with how the book was written. The sex between the MC’s was really hot with hints as to some kinky sex in the future, but I really liked how both characters opened up to each other and seemed to care for each other. I was a bit disturbed by the ex-boyfriend’s actions and had hoped that Bryan would take action in some form, but I could understand his reluctance after everything that happened before.

I will recommend this to those who love cowboys, law enforcement, a great background story, hot sex, great characters and a happy ending.

Blurb: Chance Dumont. Marcus Prater. Zachary Carmichael. Wick Templeton. Friends through circumstance, brothers by choice.

After facing off with his personal demons, Wick shuts down, but he never anticipated how his impulsive off-the-grid vacation would affect the rest of his chosen brothers. No one can hurt you like someone you love.

Before they have time to work things out, the serial killer who has been targeting Atlanta’s gay community strikes close to home. Again. It’s enough to cause an all-hands meeting at Chances Are. But when one of the brothers fails to show, it becomes clear that the close connection the men have to the murder victims is no coincidence.

They’ve got the smarts, the weapons, and the willingness to do whatever it takes to find their missing brother—before it’s too late. What brought them together in the first place may just be that which tears them apart forever.

Four authors. Twenty books. One explosive finale.

Review: This is the finale of a collaboration of four interactive series. I hope I worded that right. You really have had to have read at least some of these to understand what’s going on. It would be preferable if you have read all four series to really understand in full effect.  I have read both the Chances Are and Wicked Ways series through and a couple of the others. I loved how these authors collaborated and interacted each of the stories.

In this explosive finale, we wrap up a mystery of who is killing gays and why. It’s has become very personal for each of these men. I found the mystery exciting and interesting as it bought out new emotions in some of these characters.

Of course, there is sex. Good, hot, loving, mansex. Each of these authors has a style of their own bringing out the best in their characters and blending them with the rest. The Christmas scene at the end brought tears to my eyes.

I felt the finale wrapped all the series well, and left me with a warm fuzzy feeling. I cannot wait to see what is in store with the new upcoming collaborations.

If you like mystery, romance, family, and some hot mansex this is for you.

Blurb: The world might not have been ready for vampires when NOPD Detective Travis Boudreaux had the bad taste to sit up at his own funeral, but two years later, the new cause célèbre is civil rights for preternatural beings and most humans are on the bandwagon. Except whoever is killing vampires and wannabes.

Detective Sam Garrett hates all things preternatural. Having your undead partner try to make you his first meal will do that to a guy. One final screw-up gets Sam banished to the Paranormal Criminal Investigations Unit—the Odd Squad—under the oversight of Detective Danny Burkette.

Now it’s up to Burkette to work with Garrett by day and Boudreaux by night as they follow a trail of clues that leads from the historic cemeteries of New Orleans to the bayous of southern Louisiana. Under the all-too-interested gaze of a Master vampire and the local werewolf pack Alpha, they discover some lessons in life—and death—take longer to learn…and not all second chances are created equal.

Review: This was a fascinating read and yet it managed to piss me off and make my head explode, not once but twice.

So the world as he knew it changed for Sam. One moment he’s nearly closing the case along with his partner Travis, the next he’s being attacked by three bashers, Travis is dead and oh yeah Vampires exist. It was even recorded on tape when a criminal combusted in broad daylight on his way to trial. It became glaringly obvious though when Travis woke up from his own coffin and tried to rip his throat off…

So right, here I’m having this hardship “believing” that a world fairly new to the concept that the paranormal world exists, vampires exist, would let a freshly made vampire that on top of all tried to suck his partner dry, live. For me, that knowledge was too fresh for people to react the way they did. By all that is logical, the sight of a vampire would have caused panic and Travis wouldn’t have made it a single day…

Two years later and the anger, the resentment, and the what if’s still haunt Sam. All his inner turmoil comes out as hatred for all things supernatural. It was the reason he refused going into the Odd Squad, it is the reason he hasn’t seen or spoken to Travis for two years. It is the reason he nearly screws up a case, that while in first sight might have looked as human-made, it was in fact linked with vampire deaths.

It is like this that a very complicated yet wonderfully structured story begins. What was just a glimpse at Altered States #1 comes now in the form of an exquisite action story blended with urban fantasy giving us a chase between charming yet deathly vampires and werewolves, old lovers and new ones with some very hot scenes between them, and most of all a plot that keeps you on your toes the entire read.

So as the end of the first book becomes the start for this one, we quickly see that Travis and Sam are not only not having their happily ever after, they aren’t even talking. Yet they are linked in the same case as they try to find the preternatural killer. Sam as a means to atone himself for screwing up and Travis as a favor for Danny, the lead Detective for the Odd Squad. All Travis’ bitterness for being let go from the force after his “death” can’t conquer his curiosity at solving a case even as a consultant. This odd trio goes round and round each other in such a strange mix (no there is no ménage) that had me loving each and every minute those guys were together. Funnily enough, Danny was the one to hog all the fun.

Action wise the guys hunt for vampires yet they have no idea how dangerous it is to awaken the undead. The police work, the investigation, everything on that part is excellent. We are introduced to the “bad” guy, Henry, and isn’t he a charming bastard. His fascination with Travis and Sam becomes hilarious in the end, or should I say the way he lost first one and then the other at the very last-minute. The irony of that wasn’t lost on me at all. We are also introduced to the local pack’s Alpha and Beta and boy were they wolves hot or what.

Romance wise though this story lacked a bit. There was sex involved and Sam, well he was a “casual” guy to begin with so I didn’t find it odd that he’d have nailed Danny at some point, but the real romance between him and Travis is gone till the very end when Sam has grown into the fact that the world has changed and he still lives in it, so he should forgive and forget… And that bring us to the end and the very reason my head nearly exploded, again. Remember how the first book ended? Well let’s just say that this series had a knack for pulling the rug out of your feet. It totally blows my mind and it makes you crave the next book in the series with a passion.

So all in all this is a fantastic book, a bit dark, a bit moody, and lots of sexy if you’re a fan of the genre I’d totally recommend this to you. Enjoy!

Blurb: “Wolf or vamp? Decide. It has to be now.”

Those were the last words Sam Garrett ever heard—as a human. Now on the para side of normal, the NOPD slammed the proverbial door on his career.

Travis Boudreaux knows exactly how his former partner feels—but when some doors close, the golden window of opportunity opens. Crimes against supernaturals require a new and different approach, and once the Feds show up, the Odd Squad isn’t the only law enforcement game in town.

After a revenge-seeking vampire creates deadly havoc, the new agent-in-charge is on a recruiting mission—and he’s more than ready to fight fire with fire. What do you get when you mix old friends, new enemies, and a license to kill?

Pure dynamite.

Review: Deadly Shades of Gold is most definitely NOT yet another vamp/were story in so many ways. It is the multi-dimensional plot that marks it as way different for me, plus the fact that it doesn’t shy away from the blood and gore. Yes, I do have something of an appeal when it comes to brutality. It suits the book just fine, though, and it made for a fascinating read.

Normally, most books have a pair of protagonists and a pretty simple action plot. Not the case here and I couldn’t be happier. If you want to stretch things, though, you could say that this book of the series is about Sam and Travis.

The story starts with the, ironic should I say, near-death and change of Sam.  ironic because Sam hates all things non-human. So much so, that it cost him his friendship with Travis when the man was bitten and changed into a vampire two years ago and tried to attack him. After having thought things through, Sam went to see him and ask for forgiveness. He never managed though, at least not as human.

It was very interesting seeing those two “men” in this story. They don’t have too much time, we don’t get to see them together a lot and therefore one might say that their relationship didn’t have space to develop.  Yet, that couldn’t be more wrong, as from the first moment those two are in the same room, and every single time afterward, the air cracks with the tension that flows between them. There is something special that marks those two, and their future, in the next book is predicted to be of high interest. I am perhaps a bit disappointed that they had so little space here or that the length of the book was so short.

Moving on, there are other characters that have an equally important role in the story. The Alpha Werewolf and his Beta, Jet, are quite amusing in a way and Danny and Clint promise a new cracking pair. But, what had my real attention was the “baddie” Henri du Champ. I think I fell in love with that guy who is not only the mastermind behind so many of our boys’ troubles but the Master Vampire of the city and I’ll admit it that is quite hot.

I could go on and give you a pretty clear idea of what to expect and how the story goes. I won’t do it this time, as I’m confident that this is one of those books you should just let go, and be swiped by the story and the very interesting plot. I must recommend though, if you haven’t already, to first read book #1 of the Altered States series, Deep Blues Goodbye. It will help you have a clearer view of the story and acclimate faster. However this can be read as a stand-alone and I bet it will mark the way of how you’re going to view paranormal stories in the future.

Strongly recommended!

Blurb:    Two’s company. Three’s a…temptation. A hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon isn’t supposed to be an erotic adventure. Dr. ‘Gabe’ Gabriel is more than a little turned on by the young couple he meets on the trail but he doesn’t do threesomes anymore. Someone always gets hurt.

Not everything is what it seems and despite a close encounter of the intimate kind, Uriah and Diane are here for a reason. Leaving any possibility of romance behind, they head to the inner canyon and the isolation they need.

Reunited by chance, the threesome’s mutual attraction is hotter than the scorching Arizona desert in the middle of August. Still, secrets have a way of chilling the strongest passion, especially a secret holding a gun, and a heart cold enough to pull the trigger.

Review:  This was a very fast paced and interesting story with lots of twists and turns. Gabe is going on this adventure to get away from it all.  He is just out of a relationship with a woman. He isn’t really looking for love, just an escape to think. Uriah and Dian are both on a mission of their own. Several shocking twists before we find out exactly what. I really liked the story a lot. It’s good to get a story that is actually a story and the sex is more like jewelry, just making it better. The only thing I didn’t like is that the female, Diane, became the focus. I’d like to have seen the focus more on the men.

I would recommend this book to anyone that likes threesomes, a good fast paced suspense and some decent sex scenes and a tour of the Grand Canyon.

Blurb: Detective Remington frickin’ hates the missing persons detail, but a cold fury builds in the pit of his stomach when he realizes that over the past three months six boys have disappeared from the smaller communities that surround the greater Phoenix area. All reported to be runaways looking to escape their shitty lives, but Remy’s starting to put together a different picture and he doesn’t like it one damn bit.

Inspector Jamie Mainwaring stares at the six reports, willing them to make sense. Six boys, six months, all from just outside of London, which meant six different investigations. All of the boys were between the ages of ten and fifteen, all purportedly runaways from dysfunctional families. Something was rotten in Denmark.

There are always runaways. Every small town loses them—every big city collects them. Kids look for freedom and discover they have more to lose than they ever thought possible. London and Phoenix, culture and cowboys, nothing linking these two sprawling metropolitan areas. Nothing except a hit on a computer data search.

Two cops, one a cowboy, the other a Lord. A secret government agency, human trafficking, and a blazing hot mutual distraction.

What the hell have Remington and Mainwaring gotten themselves into?

Review: Damn !I am so sorry you were so close to a 5 Hearts rating, but what were the chances that a reviewer would have a partner that is a Missing Person Officer in England and that same reviewer would know way more Missing Person’s procedures than they should!!

Remy is a detective in Phoenix and is frustrated by the disappearance of 6 young boys.   When he makes further inquiries into the disappearances, he is shunted off the case and reassigned. Jamie is an Inspector in London and is also frustrated by the disappearances of 6 young boys, when he is also reassigned. Remy and Jamie meet in a dark and dingy hotel with an Interpol Director and are told to work together to solve the case.

I must admit, after I overlook the glaring inconsistencies in Police and Interpol protocol, that this was a thoroughly enjoyable story. Remy has had a bad upbringing and it has shaped him, to some extent, into the man he is now. Jamie is still fighting against the bonds that his mother has placed on him, but he has proved himself on the force. Remy and Jamie clash from the first and the sparks are explosive.   Both feel the enormous attraction and while Jamie is quite happy to give into it, Remy fights it all the way.

This isn’t a happy ever after or even a happy for now.   And again my eReader is slightly bruised, but hey, I have heard there’s another three books to come. 😉 Watching the progression of this book is a slow build-up.   There isn’t lots of action, but the story grips you and keeps you reading and wanting more. Remy and Jamie are passionately explosive, but it’s a lot of pushing and pulling between them and you just know that no matter how Jamie feels, Remy has a lot to work through before he can be at peace enough to be happy.

There were a lot of “hmmm” moments in this and there was even an “Oh” moment and there is still a lot to discover about these two men especially Remy.   You just know that whatever we find out is going to be horrible, but that’s for the future.   What we have now is a beginning of something between the MCs, but what it could be, maybe they aren’t even sure. We also get to look forward to finding out more about Miggy and just who is the mystery man that Remy phones?

So, all in all, I really enjoyed this book and have to recommend it to those who love mystery, suspense, hot sex, intrigue, secrets and a promise of more stories to come.
