Blurb: .John Turner has been living a lie most of his life. Growing up in the rural Georgia town of Magnolia Ridge, he’s only ever let one person truly know him: his best friend, Chloe. To the rest of the world, they’re the perfect couple, but just between them, she’s helping John hide in plain sight.

Matt Kinsley, a cop from San Francisco, moves to town looking for a slower pace and to reconnect with his Southern roots. Starting over in Magnolia Ridge means taking a step into the closet, but Matt finds that with John for company, he doesn’t mind so much.

As the two start to explore a possible relationship, a horrific murder rips the town apart but brings John and Matt together in ways neither could’ve imagined. Matt must decide where his loyalties lie while John resists the urge to run again. Together, they have to discover who the real devil is before another life is destroyed.

Review: A murder brings John and Matt together as nothing else could. John has been hiding from almost everyone. But things turn once he meets Matt. John is not out yet Matt was. Matt finds himself going back in the closet in the sleepy judgemental town he finds himself in. The only bright spot for the two men is each other.

While I enjoyed the story I felt that if I were Matt I would have moved. There’s no way I’d be somewhere where I could not be myself. John for his part has never had that opportunity so he doesn’t realize how that feels. The majority of the story is about how John and Matt traverse through their relationship in the small minded town.

The mystery aspect seemed almost like an after thought thrown into the mix as it takes place closer towards the end of the book and was a bit rushed in my opinion.

Good read.

Blurb: The road to recovery is never easy, even when you’re just an innocent bystander to someone else’s addiction.

For Jack, it’s especially hard because he blames himself for his son Rick’s drug problems. It took Jack over half his life to admit to himself (and his wife) that he was gay, but years later, he still carries guilt over what his realization did to his son.

He never thought Rick’s treatment would help him rehabilitate too, but when Jack meets Seth, the man trying to help his son get back on his feet, it’s the breakthrough he never knew he needed.

Review: This is a new author for me but I have to tell you it was pretty damn good. It is very tenderhearted and might make you cry at some parts of it.

Jack had been married once and even had a son. He had tried to make it work, but he had one little problem, he was gay. He had come out and blamed himself for all of the trouble he had made.

One of those was the fact that his son Rick was a drug addict. So when his son went into treatment, he was surprised by the man who was helping his son. A man that he wanted. It would seem that Seth had the same idea.

I had a blast reading this and would definitely recommend it. It is not one of my normal types of stories that I would read, but the cover just pulled me in. Then I read the blurb and new I had to see if it was as good as it sounded. Let me tell you it was even better. I do wish that it had been longer though with so much more.

I loved it and look forward to seeing what other books this author has out.

Review: At just twenty something years old, Tommy O’Shea is the primary caretaker for his seven younger siblings. His father is a drunk, his stepmonster is an addict, so much so that they steal from the own children in order to feed their habits. Tommy and the next oldest Colleen work multiple jobs just to keep food on the table and the lights on. It’s second nature to Tommy to take care of his brother’s and sister’s. He’s determined to keep them together and out of foster care, and he’ll seriously injure anyone that thinks otherwise.

Tommy has known Officer Bobby McAlister since they were kids, and now that they are older, Bobby has become a guardian angel of sorts. He’s kept Tommy out of jail on more than one occasion, and now he’s stepping up and helping Tommy at home with the kids as well. As much as Tommy wants more from the blonde haired young cop, he doesn’t want to expose Bobby to the harsh reality that is his world. And he’s not even certain that Bobby is gay. A chance meeting at a gay bar answers that question, and set in motion a series of events that will change the O’Shea family’s lives forever.

Bobby is as determined to be a part of Tommy’s life as Tommy is to run him off. The two fight, argue, and say hurtful things in the heat of the moment. But Bobby never gives up on Tommy or the kids. While their arguments made my teeth grate at times, there was a comical madness to them as well that rooted them in reality. The way they loved just as fiercely as they fought painted them as three-dimensional characters giving them more depth. And I loved that they could just kiss each other for hours. Every time they kissed, it was as if they kissed each other a different way, I liked that variety from the author.
This book was a beautiful tragedy full of emotional ups and downs.

My heart broke for Tommy and what he had to go through to try to keep his family together. For those kids who were saddled with the most disgusting and worthless parents, I mean who tries to steal their one year old twins Christmas presents so they can sell them for drugs?! For Bobby and Tommy and the toll it took on them both as a couple and as individuals. But I loved watching their relationship slowly unfold, from friends to lovers to a family. And it all progressed over time, it didn’t happen overnight. Tommy was recklessly determined to spend his life alone, the martyr that gave it all up to raise those kids. Sometimes though, you really can have it all, or at least all that you are meant to have.

Fans of real world stories and my fellow hopeless romantics are going to love this one. Add to that the snarky sense of humor these two guys have and that makes this a must read dramady!

Blurb: Skip thought he had it all: the fabulous husband, the great apartment, and the teaching job he’d always wanted. Even the cat was perfect. When his partner of eight years decides he wants something else—something that doesn’t involve Skip, the apartment, or even the cat—Skip decides it’s time to go home to the other side of the country.

However, Skip’s hometown doesn’t just hold a loving meddling mother but also the memories of his awkward crush on a boy he met his senior year in high school. A boy he humiliated himself in front of just when it looked as if his fantasies might become reality. Paul will have to convince him love is worth the risk.

Review: Skip was perfectly happy with his life with his husband and he has a great job and does volunteer work, everything was going great and he had begun to talk about adoption… until his husband walked in with a bunch of paperwork to end their relationship. Now Skip’s back in his hometown, living with his mom and working at a new school, still feeling the bruises of a shattered relationship when Paul walks back into his life. Paul returned to his hometown after the death of his partner, meeting Skip again is great as the shy man still manages to fumble his way into his affections, but fighting the emotional damage that Skip’s ex has wrought is hard. Can Paul break down Skip’s walls? And, can Skip take a chance on love again?

This is a story about damaged trust, personal demons and opening your heart to love again, and taking a chance on happiness. Skip has been hurt, he was blindsided when his husband left him and now he doesn’t know if he can trust his instincts. Paul is ready to love again, after losing his partner he knows that when it comes to love you have to grab hold with two hands and embrace it, but how do you convince someone of that when they are more interested in protecting themselves from hurt? Skip and Paul do embark on a relationship, but when one sees it as a step to more and the other one just wants to see it as convenient friends with benefits, just what are they expected to do?

I have to say this was a really good story that delved into the psychological damage that an unexpected breakup can cause, delving into the insecurities and doubts it can cause and the lingering scars that can affect future relationships. Skip and Paul make the perfect couple, fun-loving, sweet and basically adore each other, but Skip holds himself back from admitting the truth to himself until it is nearly too late. Paul is wonderful, sweet, thoughtful, sexy and funny, he accepts that Skip needs time, but it frustrates him when Skip is determined to keep him at arm’s length. *sigh* They are wonderful together and yes you really do want to slap Skip silly over how he treats Paul, there’s only so much sympathy in the world for a bad break up.

All the characters are wonderful, I loved both Skip’s and Paul’s Mom’s they are the kind of mothers that you dream of having and boy are they mischievous. I even kinda warmed to the ex, Monty, who has a huge amount of cheek by the way. The other supporting characters are incredible; Katie, Tommy, Faith and Johnny add something special in the friends and family department and add to our amusement and joy.

I recommend this story to those who love pure romance stories, emotionally damaged men, a fantastic support network, mischievous mothers, vindictive sisters, a perfect man, incredible sex and a very happy ending.
