Blurb: On the Road: After being rescued from kidnappers, a young man must learn to free his mind in order to embrace his future.
Deter McNellis never thought he’d be a victim–living through a kidnapping, rape, and the threat of being sold as a sex slave. Getting rescued is only the beginning of healing. He’s forced to relive the experience over and over in his dreams and when he has to share it with the authorities. To Deter’s shock, he finds himself attracted to one of the deputies helping with the investigation–Marrakesh Anderson. The deputy invites him to call him Mac and gives off signals that he’s interested in Deter, too. Deter finds Mac’s clumsy attempts at wooing sort of sweet, and he struggles to overcome his fears so he can spend time with the handsome man. The appearance of the kidnapper’s buyers makes Deter worry he’ll never feel safe. To top it off, Deter discovers Mac is hiding something…something life altering. Can Deter gather enough courage to open himself to a future so full of change, or will his fears send him running?

Review: Each book in Kontra’s Menagerie collection features a different romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order. This story is connected to Wolves of Stone Ridge, so I would suggest reading those first.
I started reading romance stories when I was a young girl, and have always been drawn to paranormal stories. It was not till a few years ago that I started reading gay romance but I still move towards the paranormal. Charlie Richards hits all my buttons with her books and the worlds she creates are ones that I would love to be in.
Deter and Max are fully developed characters and they make one drool. It is action packed, danger filled and down right fun to read. It caught my attention from the beginning and kept it all the way to the end. This is one of my favorite series and I can not wait to get my hands on the next book.
