😈 Demons Do It Better 😈
I work for Lucifer. Only, it’s not as cool and satanic as it sounds. The truth is, I’m an admin assistant who applied for a job that sounded kind of interesting and ended up working for the Community of Species Government. I’m the only human in the office, and basically I ride herd on a team of rambunctious shifters and demons.
I also spend a lot of time avoiding Gideon Bailey, the demon I had a one-night stand with right before I took this job. He hates me, and I really want to avoid being murdered. But I’ve been offered a promotion that will mean working with him, so we’re both going to have to get over it.
Plus, people are going missing. Pregnant people. And the word is that someone is dabbling in genetic experimentation. Putting a stop to that is more important than the sexual tension Gideon and I have been ignoring… isn’t it?

I’ve Got This
(Joy Universe 01)
by
Louisa Masters
Derek Bryer loves his life. His job as an assistant director at Joy Universe, the second-largest theme park complex on the planet, makes him indirectly responsible for bringing joy (pun intended) to millions of people. So what if none of his relationships are that close? Everyone he meets loves him.
Except Trav Jones. For some reason, the visiting Broadway performer would rather Derek just go away. He appreciates Derek’s work ethic, though, and after Trav steps up when Derek desperately needs someone to fill in for his sick staff, Derek seizes the chance to convince Trav he’s not such a bad guy.
Falling in love while distracted by a murder at the park, food poisoning, and colleagues laying bets on their relationship won’t be easy, but between the two of them and with the magic of Joy Universe, they’ve got this.

Blurb: Sometimes love takes balls.
Newly retired championship footballer Simon Wood is taking on his next challenge. His plan for a charity to provide funding for underprivileged children to pursue football as a career has passed its first hurdle: he has backers and an executive consultant. Now it’s time to get the ball rolling.
Lucien Morel, heir to the multibillion-euro Morel Corporation, is shocked—and thrilled—to learn his father has volunteered him as consultant to a fledgling football charity. Better yet, the brains behind it all is heartthrob Simon Wood, his teenage idol and crush.
Although Simon and Lucien get off on the wrong foot, it’s not long before they’re getting along like a house on fire—sparks included. But with the charity under public scrutiny, can their romance thrive?
Review: The Athlete and the Aristocrat by Louisa Masters is the author’s most recent contribution to the Dreamspun Desires line by Dreamspinner Press. This is a book that I really enjoyed reading and so loved being able to relax, listening to the audio narration of this book.
Master’s writing is really appealing to me because it is the writing style just takes me in and I feel an instant connection to the characters. Although this book is not part of a series by Masters, we are brought back into the world of European elegance and riches which we first encountered in The Bunny and the Billionaire and even get to check in with three of the characters from that book. For me that was a bit of a thrill.
As for the narration, I really enjoyed it. The narration was performed by Seb Yarrick. To be perfectly honest it’s taken me a few books to fully get on board with Yarrick’s performance, although I wonder if it is just a case of perhaps me not being sold on Yarrick’s suitability for the ones that I didn’t really like. Regardless, I have absolutely no complaints about the narration. I enjoyed the voice he gave to both MCs and I really felt the emotion between the two men come through in the voice and tone.
The story itself is quite simple. A hot, rich, powerful, smart aristocrat and an equally hot, rich, powerful and smart athlete are thrown together when the titular athlete wants to set up a new foundation for children in need who do not have the access to equipment or their parents don’t have the time or money to allow kids to follow their dreams. It’s all noble intentions and I’m a complete sucker for it.
The Athlete and the Aristocrat introduces us to retired professional footballer Simon Wood and billionaire of the highly influential Morel family and their corporation, Lucien Morel. The little bit of cuteness in their background is that Lucien secretly had a crush on Simon while Simon was playing soccer and in fact convinced his father that Simon’s proposal for a charity had just as much merit as a charity for education and food for kids from struggling families. However, these guys have a bumpy road to their HEA, which is what kept me intrigued with this story. There is no doubting the attraction between Simon and Lucien, however, they did need to take time to get to know each other before taking the risk of mixing business with pleasure.
I think this story has a series of popular themes which will satisfy anyone who is attracted to these types of romances that include the whole fairy-tale ending for the brooding rich guy and the kind-hearted guy that steps into his life.
Blurb: Whoever thought achieving career goals could be boring? Not Duncan Witten, but here he is at forty-one, in his dream job… and hating it. Throw it all away for a challenge? Yes, please!
If only Dunc had known his challenging new job came with Paul Hanks, a man who redefines “stubborn.” They need to work together to meet targets, but thanks to Dunc’s idiot predecessor, Paul won’t take his calls or reply to emails.
There’s only one solution: travel across the country and confront Paul face-to-face. It’s time to take things out of the office.
Review: Duncan is called in to rescue a telco project from disaster, the previous Resource Manager made a complete mess of it and now the company is looking at a huge loss of money paid out in penalties because the project is in such a mess. While Duncan begins to get the project back on track one of the main problems he has now is overspending on resources and the biggest culprit being Paul Hanks, who is dodging his emails and calls, so the ever resourceful Duncan comes up with a plan to corner Paul.
This is a surprisingly enjoyable read, I quickly got pulled into the story and thoroughly enjoyed watching as Duncan agonises over his reaction to Paul and their colleagues/friend or more relationship. I also became fascinated by the inner workings of a telecom company; I don’t think I ever actually thought about what must be put into effect for us to use mobile phones!
When Duncan and Paul meet it isn’t the friendliest meeting, Duncan is instantly attracted to Paul, but what Paul feels is resentment. When Paul’s feelings change I’m not quite sure and neither is Duncan really, while he knows that they have kinda moved into the friends column he has no idea if what they have is more than that. And it isn’t until near the end that we all find out together.
I really did enjoy this story as it’s a nice little treat where there is a building of a relationship through texts and phone calls, Duncan and Paul get to know each other before falling into bed and there isn’t any sex on page. There’s a gentle humor throughout the book that balances the high stress job they are doing, it’s a nice and easy story to read without any angst.
I recommend this to those who love enjoyable stories, hot guys connecting during stressful times, and a happy ending that’s cute.

Review: The Athlete and the Aristocrat by Louisa Masters is the author’s most recent contribution to the Dreamspun Desires line by Dreamspinner Press. Doing the whole, judging a book by its cover, I was instantly taken in. A hot, rich, powerful, smart aristocrat and an equally hot, rich, powerful and smart athlete are thrown together when the titular athlete wants to set up a new foundation for children in need who do not have the access to equipment or their parents don’t have the time or money to allow kids to follow their dreams. It’s all noble intentions and a literary turn on in the world of romance for me.
A quick side note before I dive into the story, I looked forward to this book because I have previously enjoyed Louisa Master’s writing. It’s simple in the fact that the language the author uses gave me an instant connection to her characters. The other note that I would like to make is that although this book is not part of a series by Masters, we are brought back into the world of European elegance and riches which we first encountered in The Bunny and the Billionaire and even get to check in with three of the characters from that book. For me that was a bit of a thrill.
Back to the story at hand, The Athlete and the Aristocrat introduces us to retired professional footballer Simon Wood (*clears throat* as Ben, the “bunny” from The Bunny and Billionaire says in his brief appearance here “it’s soccer in Australia!”) and billionaire of the highly influential Morel family and their corporation, Lucien Morel. The little bit of cuteness in their background is that Lucien secretly had a crush on Simon while Simon was playing soccer and in fact convinced his father that Simon’s proposal for a charity had just as much merit as a charity for education and food for kids from struggling families. Hardworking Australian nurse Ben Adams inherits a substantial sum and decides to tour Europe. In Monaco, the home of glamour and the idle rich, he meets French billionaire playboy Léo Artois.
After getting off on the wrong foot – as happens when one accuses a stranger of being part of the Albanian mafia – their attraction blazes. Léo, born to the top tier of society, has never known limits, and Ben, used to budgeting every cent, finds it difficult to adjust to not only Léo’s world, but also the changes wealth brings to his own life.
As they make allowances for each other’s foibles, Ben gradually appreciates the finer things, and Léo widens his perspective. They both know one thing: this is not a typical holiday romance and they’re not ready to say goodbye.
Review:Alright, so this audio book has left me a bit confused. Having read the book and now listened to the audio of The Bunny and the Billionaire, this book is still the only exposure I’ve had to author Louisa Masters. But I remember enjoying the ebook well enough that I was keen to listen to the audio. Also, I liked the idea that I had to suspend my disbelief for a number of hours while I listened to this almost Mills and Boon type romance with an ordinary guy and a rich European Tycoon.
The story is about Ben – he’s a nurse from Australia (he’s from Melbourne which gave me problems when it came to the actual narration). He was a private nurse who got a shit ton of money from a client who died – you will need to suspend your disbelief for this part of the story. When I originally read the book, I found it just weird and had struggled to relate to the character. However, I knew what I was getting into, so I was more than happy to suspend my disbelief and enjoy the ride and wish I could be Ben. In this aspect I enjoyed the audio more than reading the text.
Enjoying his European holiday of a life time, Ben meets rich French/Saudi playboy Leo Artois. (Am I still the only one who keeps thinking of the beer Stella Artois? Not the point). The point is, Ben meets Leo at a Monaco casino and the two of them just click. There is plenty of sweet romance as well as hot sexy time. I really enjoyed that these two guys got to know each other, and it wasn’t just about Leo showing off his lavish lifestyle to Ben. Or Ben showing off his insanely large inheritance. I really liked how these two tried to merge their lives as they got to know each other. My favorite scene would have to be where Ben made Leo cook chicken parma (aka parmigiana or as we say in South Australia, parmy).
The only issue that I had with this audio was the narration. I very rarely have issues based solely on the narration and I really hate that I have to write this, but it is the truth. While I would probably rate the story a 4/5, I have to bring the overall rating back to 3 purely based on what I can only say was painful narration. I’ve heard Peter B Brooke narrate once before and I absolutely loved it.
However, I found the accents used for many of the characters really hard to get past. The French accent used for Leo, as well as his cousin Malik and best friend Lucian was borderline comical – if you’ve ever heard the stand-up comedians Danny Bhoy and Adam Hills do a French accent that was exactly what I was thinking. And if that wasn’t bad enough, I really struggled with the accent adopted for Australian nurse, Ben and his best friend Dani. The accent for the Aussies seemed to oscillate between American mid-western, some sort of British to a bad impersonation of Crocodile Dundee. Unfortunately, none of these could be passed for an Aussie from Melbourne. (Seriously, when I first heard it all I could think of “You call that a knife?”). I hate to say it, but I really struggled listening to the audio based on the accents alone. It would have been better to have an Australian narrator putting on a bad French accent.
Blurb: Ethan Hall plans to fill Saturday, December 23, with junk food and bad TV, a day just for him amid the holiday chaos… until his baby sister calls and begs him to go collect a present for her. At the biggest shopping center in Australia. On the busiest shopping day of the year. Hell no. Right?
Ethan’s soft heart gets the best of him. He battles through the parking lot, and in the main shopping concourse, he’s trampled, elbowed, and bombarded with terrible holiday music. Then he enters hell itself, a specialty store aimed at women… where he meets Ty. They bond in a sea of estrogen and manic shoppers, fighting together to attain freedom, only to find they’re not quite ready go their separate ways.
Review: It is a small world for some. Ethan, who just wants to lay around doing nothing on his Saturday, ends up going to the mall. His crazy little sister and her request. At least there is one sexy man there who needed to buy a different present. Can you see two strong men going to a store meant to cater women, crazy.
It is a cute little story but it just gives you a taste. Meet and like each other, then togetherness. Christmas in Australia, warm weather ahead. I am afraid that I would rather have Christmas surrounded by snow. It is cute, but I do hope this author turns around and makes it into a longer story. It has great potential, but as a short story doesn’t really give you a lot. Other than that it is a fun little read.

Review:For me, Louisa Masters is a new author to me. To be perfectly honest, though, I didn’t really pay too much attention to the author when I was busy salivating over my next installment of the Dreamspun Desires imprint. I mean the story is called The Bunny and the Billionaire – the part of me that loves paranormal romance thought of some sexy shifter action. But the hopeless romantic that loves nothing more than a hot story of an ordinary guy meeting a smoking rich, hot, kind, handsome and all other things that are nice and awesome.
The story is about Ben – he’s a nurse from Australia (this Aussie wanted to know where in this wonderful country he came from). He was a private nurse who got a shit ton of money from a client who died – you will definitely need to suspend your disbelief for this part of the story. I found it just weird. Honestly, if it did happen in Australia the poor dude would probably be on Today Tonight or the cover of Woman’s Day for being some shifty character. As you can see, I struggled with relating to the character on this level, so that is the reason, though I really liked the story, that I could only rate it a 3.5/5.

If you’re into trashy romance (I can’t find another word for it, but I mean trashy in the most awesome possible way), you’ll love this. If you’re into Mills and Boon where the ordinary gets the insanely rich playboy – this is basically the MM romance you’re looking for.
