Evan Walker works for Cree as his assistant. Long hours and living arrangements make it impossible to keep things professional. So, when things get steamy, Evan sees himself as an easy target. But for Cree, Evan is a lot more than a one-night stand.

Family business takes Evan away in the middle of filming. Cree says he wants him back, but can a celebrity be faithful to a regular guy?

Review: This is the second book in the Hollywood Hotties series. However, concentrating on a new couple, the previous main characters from book 1 are only briefly mentioned a few times. Also one of the minor characters of book 1 got another brief cameo (for lack of another word) in this too.

Both Cree and Evan are interesting characters, although I think they suffered from lack of development. Or in the case of Evan, he has a sudden epiphany and I felt like there was something missing in between. Neither does he come across as the most likable or relatable or logical type of guy. However, one thing is for sure, both these guys wear masks and it would have been cool if we could have had more into this. Cree acts cold and distant when he is anything but.

Evan, on the other hand, paints everyone involved in Hollywood/movies with the same brush (from past experience). Evan’s hang up is understandable, but the reader simply doesn’t get too many details.

Upon reflection, my issues with the book come down to two factors. One, what I feel to be a lack of explanation of their back stories, and two, everything exploded between these guys in less than a month. I found it hard to quite believe it. If it had been over, say, three or six months, I wouldn’t have so many hang-ups as I do. The latter also feeds into Evan’s family storyline, which is the cause of a majority of the drama.

Despite all that, this is somewhat cute and sweet, just like the first book. However, it wasn’t quite as emotive so that I could drool over the sugar sweetness of the couple. I liked the simple plot, but as you can see from above, I feel that the pace of the book and the time frame in the book took away from my enjoyment when I was hoping to find an enchanting, Cinderella type Hollywood romance.

If you don’t overanalyse plots, like I tend to do, it’s probably even more enjoyable.

Review: This is a great combination of sweet, cute and sexy. It almost makes me wish dialling a wrong number would work out so well for me! Also, it’s not your average Hollywood romance either which make this even better in my mind.

I love Dar, despite not being the Hollywood person in this coupling he is a star to me. Corny, I know, but the man has his principles and he sticks by them. There is nothing worse than a character doing a number of 180-turns that don’t feel natural to the story. In saying that, Ryan is pretty damn awesome too. He’s has to work things out in terms of career vs. personal life, but other than that this is one guy that is full of passion.

When there was some drama and tension, I found myself feeling sorry for Dar and cursing Ryan, who I had come to love at that point. I was pretty grumpy at him. However, I have to say it was great how the entire thing played out. I also to have to say, his rather over dramatic solution made me laugh.

Immensely enjoyable – who doesn’t have fantasies about Hollywood heartthrobs? It’s a well paced romance – I didn’t get bored or frustrated and liked how the “incident” happened then the characters reacted according without too much fuss.

I think the only thing that is unfortunate is that it’s a quick read. The ending was both sweet and hot. I can’t wait to read about the new set of characters in book 2 of Hollywood Hotties.

Reader Advisory: This book is best read in sequence, after Knight’s Fall.

Review: I’m NOT gay!

That is the mantra James keeps telling himself ever since that horrible incident in the woods when Liam slammed in his face that he was in denial.

No! I’m NOT gay, damnit.

Of course, all those lies he’s been telling himself forever are challenged when his new roommate shows up. Shawn. Damn the man but he’s like an angel, tall, golden and crystal blue eyes. Yeah, hands shaking and mind reeling, every conscious and unconscious thought going round and round back to Shawn, but hey, as long as James is in control and keeps saying, “he’s not gay” to himself everything is all right, right?

Wrong!

Did I sell it enough for you? God, I don’t know if I’m not reacting as I should with this book but I loved it. I found it utterly hilarious. James is one hell of character, an idiot homophobe I can’t stop laughing with or at, I don’t know. The dialogue, the narration, the voice, and hell everything about this book was funny and my cheeks are hurting, really hurting. Is it wicked of me that I found the misery of a homophobic gay, deeply in the closet guy so hilarious? Or was it this author’s intention? I’m choosing the second option as the first kinda makes me look bad.

Anyway, back to the book, the story is about James who is miserable. His new roommate is not what he expected and hits all the alarms in his system. It’s a round and round chase where James tries really hard not to acknowledge the “elephant in the room,” aka his gayness, all the while avoiding his roommate like the Devil. And Shawn, poor Shawn, he’s unfortunate enough to be rooming with his ideal guy. The whole bear, gruff and medieval kind of God that James looks like. I loved the pair, they were, and damn I’m repeating myself, really fun to read about.

Plot wise though there was no plot. I mean this book is in the Crime & Mystery genre, but there was no crime or mystery. Yeah sure, James was in the middle of a case but that really didn’t take weight as in being part of the plot, just as filler in between the lines.

And there were the intimate scenes that somehow didn’t quite do it for me. I was literally baffled when James from one heartbeat to the other made that huge transition from homophobic asshole to a loving gay partner without a hitch. See, normally THAT would have been a huge put off for me, but I was still having too much fun with his previous misery and my favorite scene of all when James gets drunk, that it slipped away from my attention.

This book is apparently the fifth in a series. I haven’t read the previous ones and there is advisory that you should read it after you’ve read Knight’s Fall, but I had no problem following this and getting into it. However, I am now curious about the rest of them.

As for Proven Guilty bearing in mind the lack of crime plot and the leap in James’ character, I totally recommend it for every fan of Men in Blue, aka cops and whoever out there need a good, fun and enjoyable read. God I’m still laughing with the drunken James. 
