STORY LETTER:

Dear Author,

He’s been in my life for two decades. Don’t Ask Don’t Tell ended too late for us as we were months from retirement. We spent so much of our lives in the closet, hiding our love that I worry if we can hold it together when we’re out. I’m scared of losing him. For me, he’s the hottest thing I’ve ever seen still and I know he could get guys half my age without trying hard. Why would he stick with me now? But he always knows…he knows when I need him to center me—to remind me of what we have. We’re in it together to the end.

If an author selects this…I LOVE BDSM. Please, please…

Edited to clarify: I see the man facing forward as a sub and the other man as his Dom. They’ve had stolen moments over the years but never the time and privacy to truly explore their D/s needs at the level they have desired. Now they do since they have retired. I enjoy a little angst (no cheating) but definitely want a HEA. Moderate BDSM would work great. Author, up to you if you take this mind. Ultimately, author, if you pick this one I’ll be pleased no matter what you do to give my guys a story!

Sincerely,

Virginia

Review: Gunnery Sergeant Gunther ‘Gunny’ Duchene & Macalister ‘Mac’ Jones are both Marines who are coming up for retirement, now DADT is two months from being repelled and it gives Gunny an added worry that Mac will now go looking elsewhere as he no longer has to hide.

Oh, SJD.  give you a little prompt and two military men, and you pull up your big girl panties and come up with a right sparkling little gem. Gunny and Mac have been exclusive for the last ten years, after Mac had a brief brush with blackmail. But, now as they come to the end of their careers, Gunny is starting to panic a little and he has no idea why, until it hits him that Mac could have anyone he wanted now without having to hide. Mac has a different idea about what will happen with their retirement, but he notices a change in Gunny and gives him what he needs most, together they can both lay their fears to rest.

A very well written short story that amazingly shows the needs and fears of Gunny very well (I mean amazingly because it’s so short, not because of the writing or anything like that 😉 ). Gunny has been coasting along very well for the last twenty years having Mac as his best friend and f**k buddy; although for the last ten it has been exclusive. But, now as the time of their retirement approaches he is beginning to panic as he realizes that retirement means Mac could go off in his own way and find someone new. This I found to be a very angsty part as Gunny is too scared to broach the subject with Mac and it was very telling that Gunny never even thought about himself looking elsewhere even before his revelation. Mac has his own plan and that plan very much includes Gunny, but as Gunny is a bit off kilter, Mac decides to help him clear his head with a little light bondage.

So, all in all…a really good short that was worth every penny. Oh hang on, it was free. Okay, so it was still really good and it has a very good selection of emotions that Gunny works through. The sex is mega hot, the slight BDSM is very well portrayed and carried out well, and Gunny final sees his relationship with Mac for what it really is. Mac is a very sure character, there wasn’t any doubt in his mind what he wanted, and I just don’t think he ever realized that Gunny was unsure of him.

Well, hot sexy military men, a touch of BDSM, some angst, a sharing of feelings and a happy ending what more could you want in a book? It’s free as well… fine, it’s a great story that you really get into if you read the blurb/introduction, as that gives you a good mind-set as to the main characters state of mind. I highly recommend that you read this story because it will have something for everyone.

Blurb: Matthew Jonathon Parker, Matty to his friends, never did anything spontaneous. Yet six months ago, during a ‘poor-me’ moment, he entered an online chat room and may have met the man of his dreams.

Matthew Jonathon Parker planned every aspect of his day. From the time he woke up until the exact minute he crawled back into bed, his day was set. He wasn’t the kind of man to seek out other men in chat rooms. He certainly wasn’t the type to fall in love with someone he only knew from typed words.

After a six-month online affair, Matty agrees to meet Jay in Florida for a weekend getaway. Only Jay isn’t what Matty expected; although, perhaps he should have known it was too good to be true.

After all, Jay’s screen name AlwaysMJ stands for ‘Always making jokes’–or does it?

Review: Matty thinks he has found the man of his dreams. After speaking to him on-line for six months, he is finally going to meet him face to face. But, when he gets to the rendezvous spot, the man he finds is the last one he’d ever imagine.

This is an emotion filled novella that will pull you in two directions as you empathize with both characters. Matty is predictable. Everything he does is planned down to the last detail, but now he is doing something totally out of character for him… he is meeting the man who he fell in love with on-line. Matty is still of two minds when he gets to his hotel and starts to suffer from a panic attack, as the full weight of what he is about to do hits him. But, as always his best friend Jared is on the end of the phone to pull him through and get him to relax. But, when Matty finally sees ‘Jay’ for the first time there are some things that even Jared can’t smooth over.

As always S.J.D. Peterson has given us angst, frustration, anger, confusion, forgiveness and love. Giving us the experience of feeling as the characters do, of conflicting our emotions as to how to feel about these characters as we try to decide who we should empathize more with. Matty, as he discovers that his dream man is not the stranger he thought he was,  the betrayal he feels when he thinks it was all a joke, the anger that someone he thought so highly of could do that to him and then eventually forgiveness as he realizes how much this man truly means to him. then we have ‘Jay’ who has been trying to find a way to tell Matty how he feels about him and comes up with the on-line chat so he can show Matty a side of himself that he keeps hidden. To show Matty that he is the man that he can rely on. Then, we have his horror as to how Matty reacts and the realization that Matty had taken it the wrong way. His desire to get it through to Matty that he is serious and his frustration when Matty won’t listen, his determination that Matty will listen and give them a chance. Every emotion shines through.

A well-crafted story that is a fantastic friends-to-lovers plot, but doesn’t take the easy way of them just falling into each other’s arms. They both have to work at it and it makes it a more enjoyable read for its readers.

I recommend this to those who love friends to lovers, angst, some erotic loving, great characters and a happy ever after, after a few bumps in the road.

Review: Here we are with the third Whispering Pines Ranch installment and I had to ask myself before I cracked it open “can S.J.D Peterson really continue to give us such heart-wrenching, scream through your knuckle stories” and I could only hope.

Ty is still reeling from Lorcan’s return into Quinn’s life and bed.  his bitterness and anger are eating at him and the knife keeps getting turned every day that he sees Lorcan ‘flaunting’ around the ranch.  Ty just knows that Lorcan can never give Quinn what he really needs and he also knows that Lorcan runs when the going gets tough. Blake recognizes that Ty is a submissive and is harboring great pain, anger and resentment.  Blake knows what that type of feeling can do to a man so he sets out to try to help Ty find himself under all those feelings before it’s too late.

S.J.D. has again brought us a book that tears us in different directions as we get the feelings and impressions off each character.  But the one thing she never gives us is a bad guy and oh boy do you want there to be a bad guy in all her books. In this one , as the book progresses, your feelings get churned up as you try your best to process everything the characters are going through; Ty’s resentment, hate, want, longing and need, Blake’s loss, fear and want, Lorcan’s love, doubts and fear and then we have Quinn his protection, love and determination.

Ty is determined to drive Lorcan away and Lorcan is determined to stay.  Although, he has doubts about how easily he let Jess push him away, the worst thing about S.J.D. Peterson’s writing is that you empathize with both characters no matter how much you want one of them to be the bad guy.  Lorcan, because he easily walked away from Jess into Quinn’s arms.  Quinn, for opening his arms and welcoming him back whilst shoving Ty away just as they began to get close.  And Ty, for wanting Quinn so desperately that he would scare Lorcan.

Blake is a welcome character that is a lot more suited to Ty.  He sees Ty and he recognizes why Ty latched onto Quinn even before Ty does.  He helps Ty just when Ty needs it most and I think Ty helped Blake with his past quite a bit, too.  Blake does have a tragic past and it will break your heart especially when Ty realizes just where he was heading.  once you learn Ty’s past you realize why he seemed to latch onto Quinn like a heat seeking missile, just a bit of kindness was all it took.

I don’t have to tell you how well written this story is or how good the characters are because you have already read the first two books in the series and if you haven’t then what planet are you from? As always we have the lovely Conner and John who we see briefly and who S.J.D. is setting up for their own story which I have a feeling will make me cry. I am also waiting with much patience with my sledgehammer handy for Jess’s story. Lol.

So I have to recommend this to those who love pulling their hair out in frustration, biting knuckles in anger, stomping feet… lol If you love incredible hot sex, cowboys in love, hot BDSM and kink, anger, true feelings, and the beginning of a beautiful new relationship then this book is defiantly for you.

Blurb: Carrick Masters and Edward Boyd have already found true love—it’s the happy ever after that’s eluding them. Between Carrick’s job as an orthopedic surgeon and Ed’s career as a defense attorney, they have hardly any time to spend together, and what time they do have seems to be poisoned by resentment. Carrick and Ed know they need to refocus to make their marriage work, but they seriously need more than a spicy once-a-week date night to get them back on track.

Review: Ed is sat in a restaurant waiting for his beloved husband on their 3rd anniversary when he realizes that he isn’t coming. Carrick doesn’t realize what he has been doing to his husband while he has been ignoring him in favor of studying… it’s the start of them realizing that they are putting their relationship second and they have to focus on their relationship, as much as they focus on work.

This is a fantastic story that will make you sit up and take a long hard look at your own relationship to ensure you haven’t fallen into the habit of taking your partner for granted. Ed and Carrick have somehow managed to take each other for granted.  Even when they try to change that, they fall back into old habits. Even though they love each other very much, they both feel that they are losing something special.  As they begin to work on their marriage they discover new kinks about themselves.  And although it’s new and exciting, they know it won’t fix their problems.

A well-written story that touches your heart.  It is beautiful to watch these two men trying to reconnect and get back what they have lost in their marriage. While they try to get the basics of their marriage on firm ground, Ed finds that he has a kink, and that kink is slight submission, he enjoys giving himself over to Carrick and trusting Carrick to give him what he needs. Carrick has always been slightly dominant and this new kink that they have discovered excites him, but he also recognizes that they have to cut back at work and just focus on them.

A beautiful story about rediscovering the simple things in a relationship, a kiss hello, a snuggle in front of the T.V., lazy mornings in bed, a quick phone call to say I love you and most importantly that nothing is as important as the one you love. I have to recommend this to everyone who believes in true love and that that love is worth fighting for. And some incredible hot scorching sex!! (There’s also a little twist at the end that looks like it could make a great sequel.)

Blurb: Sequel to Lorcan’s Desire – A Whispering Pines Ranch Novel

It’s been a year since Lorcan James left Whispering Pines Ranch, and Quinn Taylor has barely recovered.  Only two things keep him from falling into the abyss of despair: his work at the ranch and his escape into the world of BDSM at a club called The Push. At The Push, the sound of men begging him helps drown out the bitter memory of his own voice begging Lorcan to stay.

When Lorcan comes back to Pegasus, the same blistering heat simmers between them, but almost nothing has changed.  Lorcan is still with Jess, the man he left the ranch with, and Quinn has captured the attention of Ty Callahan, a man who will beg Quinn for anything, anytime, and any way Quinn wants it. Despite how much he wants Lorcan, Quinn swears he’ll never beg a man again. If there’s one thing Quinn has learned the hard way, it’s that not even begging can fill love’s aching need.

Review: I don’t know what to say… I am speechless… How on earth has SJD done it again? Quinn is still struggling with his devastation of Lorcan’s leaving him. He manages to cope day to day, but only with the help of the subs, at the club. He somehow doesn’t fall back into despair. Lorcan is still with Jess, but although he loves Jess he still has to fight his desire for Quinn.

Oh My God… this is… I just… I am freaking gobsmacked. When Quinn learns that Lorcan and Jess are coming back he goes to The Push and his favorite sub Ty. And he does something he has never done before; stayed the night with someone and maybe it’s the start of something more meaningful.

Okay, this one is going to tear you apart and make you wish that you could change everything.  You will love and hate Quinn, Lorcan and Jess, but you will just love Ty who has a heart-breaking story in his past. This is again not going to end how you want it to (well how I wanted it to anyway), and your heart will break for what the mean author put Jess through.  It was devastating and I just sat there thinking “Oh My God” why, why, why did you do that to him.”  I did also feel sorry for Lorcan with what he had to go through, as well, but I was also really pleased that he seemed to have grown up a lot since the last book. Quinn is just clueless as to how Ty feels about him.  I mean Ty helps him a lot and they get along great so I got my hopes up but then they were dashed. God. Quinn, I know you love Lorcan and all but geeze man where’s your balls, he stomped all over your heart for Christ’s sake.

This book is brilliant, the story-line is fantastic, the characters are incredible and they have developed and become better people since the last book. The sex is hot, erotic and kinky and there was enough to keep you humming along nicely. The emotions that you feel during this book makes your head spin as you just don’t know who you want to come out on top, Ty or Lorcan. Which one should get Quinn?  Jess or Quinn?  Which one should get Lorcan?  It’s just so hard to choose.

So, boys and girls, this book will frustrate you, wring your heart out, make you stomp your feet and grind your teeth.  Will make you wish that you could grab these characters and shake some sense into them.  Will make you wish that it was inter-active so you can say ‘No don’t, he’ll break your heart’ and ‘No Ty’s better for you’. So I have to recommend you go out and get this book… it is just fantastic.

Well, Hell… I have to wait ‘til February FEBRUARY for the next book… I don’t think I can do it… I can’t wait that long… I think I have to go author hunting… Bwahaha Mwahaha… you were warned.

Blurb:  Despite the loving support of his family, Lorcan James wants to try life on his own, so at twenty-one, he finds himself walking half way across the country in search of adventure. What he finds is desperation, desperation that leads him straight to the Whispering Pines Ranch and right into the path of its strong, arrogant, gorgeous owner, who awakens something in Lorcan he didn’t even know, existed.

Quinn Taylor is up to his neck in grief and frustration dealing with a neighboring rancher who wants nothing more than to see him go belly-up. He doesn’t need more complications, but from the moment he lays eyes on Lorcan, his world turns upside down. Despite finding in Quinn what his heart craves, Lorcan refuses to be Quinn’s dirty little secret—and Quinn isn’t the only one vying for Lorcan’s attention. Ranch hand Jess will happily declare his love for Lorcan to the world, something Quinn won’t offer—something Lorcan needs above all else.

Review:  Now don’t fall over in shock, but I had no choice but to give this book a 5 heart rating. Yes, I know, I’m more of a 4 heart rating kinda girl, but what can I say, this book is brilliant and the author is evil for the way we have been left hanging and panting for the next book.

I am not giving anything away about this book because you have to experience it for yourself but this I will tell you; we get to know the characters well, we end up loving and hating them and wishing they were real so we can shout at them and tell them to pull their heads out of their butt’s. And I mean the three main characters here; the supporting characters are lovable and sweet.

You end up nodding your head in understanding, shaking your head in bewilderment and muttering to yourself about stupid men who just don’t talk. The sex scenes are hot, the frustration and disappointment feel real and the heartbreak is touching, this book does not end how you want it to (no matter how you beg and plead it to), which is why I am waiting with hope for the sequel. I actually want to do a Kathy Bates (for those of you who haven’t heard of her read Misery by Stephen King) and make this author write at least 5,000 pages more, but I suppose I will have to wait just like everyone else for books 2 & 3. Just don’t make me wait too long… Bwahaha Mwahaha. (Sorry that just slipped out. Lol)

So what would I recommend…? Get the book, read it, and then hang there for ages waiting for the next one. (Yeah ‘cuz I have to (boo hoo)) Buy the book and wait for the other books to be released. (Wish I had that option) but whichever one you decide to do I will always recommend that you buy this book ‘cuz it is BRILLIANT.

Blurb:  The moment when the world tilts on its axis, completely changing everything. The instant when suddenly everything just falls into place. The second when a heart shatters into a million tiny pieces, only to settle back into place, complete for the first time. When an all-encompassing light surrounds a soul, touching it so deeply a permanent imprint is left behind. The first time true love is felt.

For Brycen Anderson, it didn’t happen as it does on TV or on the Hollywood screen. There was no fancy movie set or a multi-million dollar budget. No director taking control. No rehearsals, costumes or media fanfare. It was…

A passing glance…

A casual touch…

Simple.

Review:  I was prepared by a reliable source for a sweet story and that’s what I got.  But “sweet” is a bit misleading in that it’s too simplistic of a description.

Brycen is bored and stuck in a rut of the mundane. He’s a homebody who yearns for the simple things in life and someone special to share them with. John is his perfect match and they have more in common than either expects. Each has been left with deep feelings of inadequacy by previous relationships.

The story takes you through them learning how to work through misunderstandings, talk about their fears, establishing trust and to realize their imagined inadequacies are only in the minds of the unworthy ex’s.

I’m a lover of stories filled with angst, lust and passion – those extreme emotions you don’t run into on a daily basis. But a true love story told with real characters, with believable reactions and honest motivations – well, those are harder to come by. This story isn’t one filled with contrived drama to move the story along. It’s a love story, self doubt, insecurities and beautifully rounded out with real emotions – “Simple” as that.
