Blade: As the lead singer of Hard Core, I’ve been taught several key life lessons. Unfortunately, I’ve also ignored many of them in the last twenty minutes alone, which is why I’m now being chased by a horde of crazed fans.

But my worst misjudgment today? Going outside in public without security or a backup plan. Screaming fans come with the job and the fame is as much of a blessing as it is a curse, but I still couldn’t imagine doing any other line of work.

Music owns me and I am happy to be her bitch.

Nico: I knew who he was as soon as he burst through the front door of my store and I was absolutely starstruck and speechless. Yes, me with my own hardened attitude and jaded outlook on life had lost the ability to talk in the presence of Blade.

I’m an ex-con. I paid my debt to society, and I have my own brand of scars to show from the time I spent behind bars. My life’s regrets stain my soul as much as the ink of my tattoos color my skin. Solace for me came with ownership of a bookstore. It was a peaceful place to work until a certain rockstar blew in from the street like a Category 5 hurricane.

Hurricane Blade was about to make landfall and I wasn’t sure I’d survive the storm.

Review: Black Ice’s talented bass player, Lincoln, has slowly been isolating himself over the past year. Partly because he is trying to hide a severe health issue that he isn’t even fully aware of just how severe it is, as of yet. And partly because he’s tired of watching his fellow band mates and friends pair off and find their love. Lincoln is trying to convince himself he couldn’t care less, but deep down there is some jealousy and envy roiling in his gut.

On a break before the tour with Ivory Tower, Linc wants to smoke some pot, sleep and fade into the wallpaper until it’s time to rehearse. Thankfully when Linc has a fall, the bands stage manager Spimoni, is there to take him to the ER. Spimoni uses the fact that Linc doesn’t want any of the guys in the band to know what’s going on with him, he gives Linc an ultimatum. Get a physical therapist or tell the guys in the band.

Aaron Baylor is good friends with Spimoni and not only does he understand the word confidentiality, he has worked with one of the Ivory Tower guys in the past. Aaron has the patience of a saint and the harder Linc pushes back, Aaron stands his ground and forces Linc to do what must be done if he’s going to learn how to live as normal a life as possible.

Spending every waking hour together gets off to a rocky start, as I said. Linc is furious over his diagnosis and feels worthless having to depend on Aaron so heavily. Somewhere along the way the lines between therapist and patient begin to blur. The attraction has been obvious from the beginning, but the progression to something beyond just friendship is slow and tedious.

Linc and Aaron are so busy with getting Linc well enough to go on tour and figuring out how to navigate some type of relationship, that they don’t see the threat lurking in the shadows.

In a way I’m sad that this is the last book. I’ve been on tour with Black Ice and Ivory tower, watched as these guys found their soul mates, fell in love and even attending a few wedding. I’ve sat on the sidelines as they have struggled, for various reasons, to be true to themselves and move past hatred and bigotry to find their place in this world. I seriously feel like a distant cousin, I’m so invested in these characters and their lives.

So, Lincoln has been the ornery bass player pretty much from the start. He’s standoffish and volatile at times. But he is also loyal and dependable. He knows that there is something wrong with him, but he refuses to do anything about it. Reasons vary from not wanting to let the band down, his love of playing and worrying he won’t be able to anymore, and knowing that if he does something about it he is admitting there is something wrong. Ignoring it allows Linc to convince himself he is okay.

Aaron is perfect for Linc. He has the patience of a saint and he doesn’t take any of Linc’s crap. Early on, Linc lashes out several times and even fires Aaron at one point. He quickly comes to his senses, apologizing and begging Aaron to stay. It’s hard for Linc to accept help, it is just not something he is familiar with and he associates it with showing weakness.

As the story unfolds, you can see the two men falling in love. Small gestures, their inner thoughts, longing looks… it all slowly unfolds and as hard as these two fight at the start, they put all that determination into having a successful relationship. Aaron keeps Lincoln grounded, supports him, loves him unconditionally to spite his diagnosis. It’s hard for Linc to believe for a while there, but once he realizes the depth of his feelings, he refuses to let Aaron go.

Everything comes to a head in London while the guys are on tour and the threat that has stayed in the shadows emerges. At the same time, Lister introduces the team that is going to provide security for the bands moving forward. And I already see a couple of stories I want to come from these large and in charge guys. I also enjoy how the Skullblasters make an appearance to spice things up a bit. And who is to say we won’t have a love story down the road between one of the Skullblasters guards and one of the guards for Black Ice. A girl can dream, right?

This is a fantastic series with well written story lines and three-dimensional characters. You really get pulled into each and every story with believable storylines and perfectly flawed characters. While each story could probably be read as a standalone novel, why would you want to? I think reading the books in order is necessary to enjoy the full effect of the world Lister has created.

The books are emotional, intriguing, completely captivating, passionate, funny and enduring. I highly recommend anyone that likes stories with guys of all shapes, sizes and personalities that are passionate about their jobs, their friends and their lovers.

Now I have to sit here and wait for the first book in the spin-off series for the Guards, Ann Lister is such a tease!

Blurb: Locked-down at a Los Angeles intervention facility, everyone around Dante Dupont and his Black Ice band mate, Ashton Lane, thought this would fix the issues between them. Dante and Ashton knew differently. What made this a hundred times worse was the fact they were stuck in this room together. They hadn’t shared space like this since the one afternoon they both wanted to forget. And, revisiting that nightmare was not an option . . . with or without the help of a therapist.

Two musicians. Same band. Afraid to admit their true feelings, being in close quarters again has them both at their breaking point. They say if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen, but neither of them can find a reason to leave, and fighting the fire is becoming more and more difficult to do.

Dante’s baggage isn’t pretty and his scars run deep, but Ashton might be the one to finally see beyond his past and help him find a way out from the smoke screen he’s spent his life hiding behind. In order to get there, though, they’ll both have to walk through the flames.

Review: This is the 6th book in a series that must be read in order.
At the end of ‘Meant for Me’ we saw the extent of the hatred Dante and Ashton carried for each other. But, sometimes the journey from enemies to lovers can be a life changing experience. That’s what is about to happen to Dante and Ashton.

Stuck in rehab for their severe anger management issues by their boss, Dagger, Dante and Ashton have to face some traumatic events from their pasts in an effort to move forward and develop a more symbiotic working relationship. They are both stubborn to a fault, and to spite their mutual attraction to each other, they fight it to breaking point.

Dante was violated as a youth by someone close to him and the scars on his psyche run deep. He can’t get past it because he refuses to talk about it, much less deal with it. If he can’t find a way to overcome that hurt and pain, he will never be able to be the man he wants to be for Ashton.

Ashton is younger and has a hair-trigger temper. He also has horrid communication skills, unless you count yelling, jumping to conclusions and throwing things as a communication skill. He wants Dante in the worst kind of way, but getting what he wants would require him to bend and flow, and it will take a lot of convincing for that to happen.

Volatile doesn’t even begin to describe their relationship. For every two steps forward, they seem to take ten backwards. Neither of them is the best at talking about their feelings on a good day. Add to the already tenuous situation misunderstandings, ghosts of the past and a crazy stalker and what you have is a recipe for disaster. These two will have to find a way to channel all their hurt, frustration and anger into something more positive if they stand a chance at a relationship. Not to mention the mass of broken things they leave in their wake.

There is nothing better than a frenemies story that blossoms into an electric love story. What I found that I enjoyed the most about Dante and Ashton, aside from the earth-shaking fucking sex they had, was the way they had to grow together and learn to do things they weren’t necessarily comfortable with in order to preserve their love for one another.

There were a lot of ups and downs, one minute Dante would be fucking Ashton into the mattress while Ashton shouted enthusiastically at the top of his lungs, and the next they would be trying to beat the living shit out of each other for sometimes no apparent reason. It was emotional, volatile and amazing.

If you like the Assassin/Shifter series by SGD, specifically the insane love affair of Devon Lyons and Andre Panchenko, you are going to be so engrossed in this book; this Devon and Andre on fucking steroids. I was literally on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading.

There were a couple of times I wanted to lock them in a room and bang their stubborn heads together, until I realized, Dagger already did that. You also get a nice surprise at the end of the book, one that fans will be jumping for joy over.

Definitely a must read series, but please read them in order, you’ll lose a lot in translation if you don’t.

Blurb: Mick Wheland, Ivory Tower’s bad-boy guitarist, has recently realized two important things about himself. He prefers sex with men over women, and the idea of a committed relationship doesn’t scare him as much as it once did. He’s seen the positive effects of love from watching his band-mates find life partners, and now he’s thinking he might be ready for the same himself.

The problem is knowing where to look for Mr. Right, and living out of a suitcase while touring with a band is not exactly conducive to finding real love.

Sonny (Rooster) Roostarelli leaves the seclusion of his Vancouver cabin, where he went to lick his wounds after a contentious divorce, and moves back to Los Angeles. He claims relocating to L.A. is for business purposes, but now that the dust has settled on his failed marriage, Rooster feels he might finally be ready to settle down – with a man.

A chance encounter for Wheland and Rooster on a busy L.A. street rekindles an old friendship between the two professional musicians. Rooster needs a short-term place to stay and Wheland has plenty of extra space at his hillside estate and that lands Rooster in Wheland’s guest room. What starts out as a music collaboration opportunity quickly turns personal when the chemistry they have becomes too strong to ignore and soon the music they’re making spills from the studio and into the bedroom.

The road is a grueling bitch musicians love to hate. Being on stage under the hot lights can sometimes be the only place they feel comfortable and alive. Can two high-profile rock stars make a life together in such an artificial world – on and off the stage… or will past mistakes and family secrets keep them from finding their forever?

Review: Mick Wheland has made a name for himself as Ivory Tower’s guitarist with an attitude. He experimented with his sexuality with his band mate and best friend, only to feel shunned when his friend fell in love with someone else. After a run of threesomes where he skirted the boundaries of straight sex, and an amazing one-night stand with a sexy waiter, Wheland has come to the conclusion that he just might be gay.

Sonny Roosterelli has recently returned to LA after a hiatus in Vancouver nursing his wounds from a bitter divorce. When he and Wheland bump into each other, an old friendship is re-kindled and Wheland offers Sonny his guest room while he’s in town. The two spend a lot of time together in the studio and soon the mutual attraction becomes palpable, resulting in an extremely erotic night that ends with both men wanting more than either of them expected.

Both men have been on the run from a serious relationship for varying reasons, but the connection, chemistry and communication they share convinces them to give a commitment with each other a chance. Old wounds, secrets and the pressure of being a real life rock and roll star prove to be more challenging than they initially expected. Do they want to be together enough to overcome any obstacle?

It is a work of art, in my opinion, when an author can take a character that is less than desirable and turn him into someone you are rooting for. That is what Lister did with Wheland. With the events and his actions in Make You Mine (book #3), I wasn’t very fond of him, but in this story Lister took the time and effort to explain why Wheland acted out and made the decisions he did. Then there was the addition of Sonny to the world of The Rock Gods, the perfect partner for Wheland. Slightly submissive but strong and assertive as well, sexy and loyal. Wheland needs an equal, a partner, someone who won’t put up with his bullshit, but is willing to bend to Whelands demands in the bedroom. They really are the perfect pairing.

I absolutely love this world of rock stars that have built their own chaotic family unit that Lister has created. Pick up any one of the books in this series and you will find three-dimensional characters, involved storylines, passionate relationships, and descriptive scenery with a ballad of friendship and love playing in the background.

A must read for those that like a little Rock and Roll with their romance, and there is a little light BDSM for this coupling as well. I recommend reading the books in order to understand the dynamics between friends and lovers, and while I have enjoyed each and every one of these books, Ryan and Dagger are still my favorite!
