Love is the only gold
Former Ranger turned FBI agent Reed Acton faces his biggest challenge yet: a Christmas visit from partner Trent Copeland’s parents. He’s less equipped to handle hugs and holidays than the Taliban or international art thieves. When he’s assigned to track down a set of gold Babylonian artifacts looted from the Iraqi National Museum after the fall of Baghdad, things start to look up.
This time, Trent’s part of the mission, which takes them to exotic Istanbul. The crowded streets and labyrinthine markets fascinate Trent, but soon murder is on their trail. The investigation continues as Reed goes undercover at a US Army base, with Trent masquerading as his spouse. Surprisingly, fastidious and ever-fashionable Trent fits into base life right away and soon takes one of the suspects’ wives under his wing when domestic abuse rears its head.
Their faux marriage leads Reed to appreciate Trent in ways he never expected, strengthening their bond—until Reed has to confront the worst demons from his past: his relationship with his estranged family.
Excerpt
Entering Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar from the south led them through a maze of shops and stalls selling carpets, leather clothing, and other leather items as they headed toward the heart of the market and the jewelry and antiques stalls.
Trent found a leather jacket he insisted Reed try on, then spotted a gorgeous leather briefcase. Reed soon found himself overwhelmed by the close quarters with the seemingly thousands of other people making their way from shop to shop. The ceilings were fifteen feet high, and the air circulating above them was the only thing that made the space bearable. It took all of his concentration to remain aware of his surroundings. Getting distracted could be deadly if he made contact with the wrong people.
“This certainly isn’t the place for anyone who’s claustrophobic,” he commented. The Bazaar reminded him of the huge covered market in Thailand, where you could buy anything from saffron monk’s robes to magical amulets to plastic microwave egg cookware. Everything and anything all piled under one roof, though each shop had a specialty.
“The Spice Market is a lot like this, only everything smells really good. Nuts, spices, a hundred kinds of olives, another hundred kinds of pickled vegetables, and beautiful squares of about a hundred varieties of Turkish delight, all glowing like gems.”
“You’re reminding me I never got lunch.”
“Do they have food in here?” Trent glanced around them.
“Who knows? Let’s take a look at that map.”
A fast-moving crowd of people brushed past them and nearly knocked Reed into a display of hand-tooled wallets. The leader was carrying a small Japanese flag, and the group behind him rushed ahead, then stopped to take photographs, further clogging the narrow walkways.
They ducked into the nearest shop while the Japanese group snapped away at the shops, each other, and the inevitable selfies. Trent dug into the inner pocket of his jacket and produced the map he’d grabbed near the entrance.
About E.M.
EM Lynley writes sizzling gay romance with a hint of mystery. She loves books where the hero gets the guy and the loving is 11 on a scale of 10. A Rainbow Award winner and EPIC finalist, EM has worked in high finance, high tech, and in the wine industry, though she’d rather be writing hot, romantic man-on-man action. She spent 10 years as an economist and financial analyst, including a year as a White House Staff Economist, but only because all the intern positions were filled. Tired of boring herself and others with dry business reports and articles, her creative muse is back and naughtier than ever. She has lived and worked in London, Tokyo and Washington, D.C., but the San Francisco Bay Area is home for now.

Review: This is book four of the precious Gems series. I have not read the first three and think this one stood alone just fine. Though it did make me want to go back and read how these two guys met!
Reed works for the FBI recovering stolen international items. He is often away on work and he often uses work not to have to deal with family situations. He and Trent have been together three years and Trent is tiring of being pushed away or avoided when it comes to discussing family. With Trent’s family visiting for Christmas, Reed has to decide what is more important his job or Trent.
If you like lots of action and beautiful, exotic settings you will love this story. I loved seeing a love that is already established grow and consolidate. When Reed and Trent are in Turkey I felt as if I were there with them. The story is a bit predictable but with all the action, romance, and all the sensual hot sex who cares. It is an excellent story for a hot summer evening if you want to get lost in romance and suspense.
If you like mystery and suspense, growing relationships, ex-military men, FBI agents, and some hot, sensual but mostly off the page sex this is definitely for you.
