Jamie Dexson is like any other twenty year old boy–with one exception. He’s been passing himself off as a girl for four years.

Fleeing from a dangerous situation, the ruse is necessary. Jamie and his mother have been on the run, but when Jamie’s disguise becomes more trouble than it’s worth, he has to decide if leaving it behind will free him from the arms of a predator seeking to make Jamie his.

From a life of deciding which heels to wear with what outfit, Jamie falls into a world of dragons, vampires, werewolves, and shapeshifters. And he discovers he’s one of them… but doesn’t know which one.

Review: I sit here as I write this trying desperately not to run off to a corner and sulk. Why, you ask?  Well, it’s simple really… it’s all the ending’s fault;  I have to wait for the next book, Deadly Skies, to get answers, that I want now.   So, here I am desolate, needing to read the next book and I’ve got zip about when it will be out because Savannah Hartley is still writing it. (*pout*)

Jamie is a boy pretending to be a girl, because his mum asked him to because they were in danger.  So for the last four years he’s been a girl; he has had to act like a girl, talk like a girl, and walk like a girl and essentially be a girl. Now though his secret has been discovered by Asa, a quite boy from one of his classes.  As he and Asa become friends secrets come out on both sides.  To make matters worse, Jamie discovers the truth about why he’s in hiding. Jamie gets an admirer in the shape of Aidan the most popular and sexy boy in college and although Jamie puts him off because he’s not really a girl it doesn’t stop the attraction he feels for him.

This has got to be one of the most complex and utterly deceptive books that I have ever read.   The details are introduced slowly and slotted in here and there.   There are some things that sneak up on you and you end up having ‘oh duh’ moments. The story is mainly about Jamie and his everyday life living as a girl.  The author drops hints about why he’s in disguise slowly, teasing us and making us want more.  Then we discover other secrets and I will now never be able to look at tomato soup in the same light ever again. We get Jamie’s diary entries here and there which add a bit of insight into Jamie the boy and there is no sex but some scorching kisses. Even getting to the end of the book I don’t think we have discovered all the secrets and surprises that involve Jamie.

As other characters are introduced and as we find out the truth about them, the story becomes more complex.   You try to figure out just what is going on and who is behind what. Is everything as it seems or is Jamie being lied to again? What exactly is the truth? And just what the hell is Jamie? Now I know what you’re going to say, what about the ‘rape’ aspect… well that’s something that is referred to and then the rapist gets what he deserves… twice!! So although it is a disturbing aspect just remember payback is a bitch called Jamie.

My recommendation is this… you have got to read this book if you like the paranormal even a little bit.  because you have different shifter types, magic, other dimensions, a mystery of who and what Jamie is, it’s humorous and you know there will be a fantastic sequel… Oh, and in case you were wondering, Asa and Ethan get a story of their own, as well.   *squee* So a quick note to Savannah Hartley… write faster!!

Review: This book is West Thornhill’s first published work and it is brilliant. Gael is rescued by Rick who works for the Fillmore Agency.   After therapy and training, Gael joins the Fillmore Agency himself.  When he meets up with his new team-mates, Tink and Jason, he has an instant attraction to Jason. Unfortunately, Jason has been hurt in the past, causing him to doubt his initial reaction to Gael. When his beast gets too hard to control, he goes away for the weekend. Only then, does he finally come to terms with what his beast has been trying to telling him.

This is an incredible first published work.  There’s a lot that goes on, but you never lose focus of what is going on. I won’t go into too much detail, because, as I said, a lot goes on.  So I will try to keep this short. Gael has had a horrific time before he was rescued by Rick.  He has some psychological problems that he is still trying to work through.  although his relationship with Jason sets him back a bit at first, Jason has to get a tight grip of his beast as the beast doesn’t understand what Gael has gone through and because of that Gael now doubts how Jason really sees him.

This is quite a complex story, as in the various different characters that play a part and how they become involved (there will be another 4 books in the series with these characters) and they keep the story interesting. The opening of the book is really good as we get the foundations of the Fillmore Agency and its background straight away. This book is also unique in the aspect that the Agency isn’t the characters sole purpose in life and they all have outside jobs which they enjoy.

The relationship between Gael and Jason doesn’t run smoothly, but the sex is incredible between them.  They have a lot to work through as a couple, but they seem to be well suited. I must admit that at times it seemed as though when working on a Fillmore case they seemed to keep Gael out of the loop or not discuss what was going on but then I realized that they were just going over the same info and hadn’t got any further so that was why it seemed like that.

There are some aspects of this book, which will be disturbing for people.  I can tell you it doesn’t go into too much detail.  The psychological effects on some of the characters are not down played or over the top, the author has tastefully broached a terrible subject and shows all the characters in good light with how they handle it.

So who to recommend this one to??? Well, if you like paranormal, secret agency, great characters, an interesting story, fantastic sex, a good idea of what will happen in the next book and a happy ending for Jason and Gael then this is the book for you.

Blurb: Alec and Nahele are feral-Maith, genetic offshoots from a fantastic race. Their clan is home to many kinds of feral characteristics, but the powerful predators—wolves and felines alike—are the protectors, hunters, and leaders. Both Alec and Nahele enjoy their arrangement, finding pleasure with one another away from prying eyes, but Alec’s worries about their clan’s security have long fallen on deaf ears.

Under pressure, Alec challenges Nahele for leadership of their clan, threatening to destroy the relationship they’d been building for years. Nahele is anything but weak, and his stubbornness could endanger the clan’s stability, not to mention his own life. When push comes to shove, Nahele is confronted with the most difficult choice a leader can face: resist and maintain his pride or yield control of the clan to the feral-Maith he once trusted.

Warning: Questionable consent

Review: Alec has advised his Alpha and lover several times that he has to make changes for the sake of the clan but Nahele ignores him and Alec feels he has no other choice but to challenge him. Nahele feels betrayed when Alec challenges him and sets out to make Alec’s life miserable.

This is a great short that seemed longer than it actually was, there isn’t much world building in this but just from reading the story you get the feeling of a primal world where everything is simple and primitive but with a sense of structure as though they are at the beginning of civilization. Although Alec and Nahele love each other they still have sex with other members of the clan as it is their way.

Alec just wants what is best for the clan and it tears his heart out to challenge Nahele.  Nahele has too much pride to change as he has led the clan for several centuries. This is an erotic, brutal brilliant story that makes you wonder if our ancestors civilization started out like that and keeps us reading as we wonder if these two characters will sort out their differences to have what they had before.

I think that readers who enjoy primitive races, hot sex, brutal vicious fights, dominance, love and a good story will love this one because I did.

Blurb: Fight like a man, or die like a slave.

Brooklyn Marshall used to be a policeman in London, with a wife and a promising future ahead of him. Then he accidentally killed a rioter whose father was a Member of Parliament and had him convicted of murder. To ease the burden on the overcrowded prison system, Brooklyn was sold into slavery rather than incarcerated. Now, he’s the “Mean Machine”, a boxer on the slave prizefighting circuit, pummelling other slaves for the entertainment of freemen and being rented out for the sexual service of his wealthier fans.

When Nathaniel Bishop purchases Brooklyn’s services for a night, it seems like any other assignation. But the pair form an unexpected bond that grows into something more. Brooklyn hesitates to call it “love”—such things do not exist between freemen and slaves—but when Nathaniel reveals that he wants to help get Brooklyn’s conviction overturned, he dares to hope. Then, an accident in the ring sends Brooklyn on the run, jeopardizing everything he has worked so hard to achieve and sending him into the most important fight of all—the fight for freedom.

Purchase Link: http://stormmoonpress.com/books/Counterpunch.aspx

Review: This book is part of a series but can be read as a stand-alone. Brooklyn was convicted of murder and he lost everything, even the potential of freedom in the future as he was made a slave with no hope of redemption. Nathaniel buys a few nights with Brooklyn and the two become close but after Brooklyn makes a mistake in the ring Nathaniel backs off and Brooklyn finds out the truth of who Nathaniel really is.

What a brilliant book, it’s based in the same universe as Rachel Haimowitz – Anchored where slavery is the norm and slaves have no basic rights. Brooklyn has had everything stripped away leaving him with rage, anger and regret.  He was done an injustice when he was convicted of murder and made into a slave, all to please the dead girl’s father who just happens to be an MP. Nathaniel somehow managers to get through Brooklyn’s shell and make an emotional connection with him but when the truth comes out, Brooklyn and Nathaniel have to come to an agreement as to what will happen next.

I love this story as it’s got boxing, slavery, controversy, love, rage, anger, slight BDSM and great characters. I loved that the story-line and plot was so solid and even though slavery is fiction, the way that the justice system jumps on the police is not… that is pure fact.  What was fiction was police protecting their own; ha they would sooner stab them in the back then help a fellow officer (sorry bugbear of mine). The entire book was detailed and you really ended up feeling just as angry and frustrated on Brooklyn’s behalf as Brooklyn was and I must admit I really wanted Brooklyn to smash Curtis’s face in just once.  God, that man enjoyed his work way too much.

I liked how the relationship progressed between Brooklyn and Nathaniel and I really could understand why Nathaniel backed off.  There was just too much to lose for both of them even if Brooklyn didn’t know why. I also loved that this book was written in English… err, I mean British English as it was a really smooth read as I didn’t keep thinking that there were spelling mistakes everywhere.

So there is a lot of stuff in this for everyone, I don’t think it really leaves anything out it’s got grit, violence, romance, hope, fear, rage, betrayal, slight BDSM, abuse, controversy, strong characters and love… it didn’t have revenge though (I do like a bit of revenge) so I recommend this to everyone… it’s a bloody good read… so read it.

Blurb: Becoming a host for a parasitic dragon wasn’t part of the plan. Actually, there wasn’t really any plan to begin with, but when the dragon egg hatches, Ashe figures it’s time to come up with one.

Katsu’s plans are failing miserably. His vast medical knowledge isn’t helping Ashe’s dragon situation, he’s having problems staying detached, and the other mercenaries are concerned about their life-force being sucked dry and want Ashe to leave. Katsu is determined that if Ashe leaves, so will he. First, though, he has to make sure that his people aren’t killed in battle… something they seem determined to do.

Review: Ashe has a little problem, a baby dragon has become attached to him and it could kill him. Katsu is trying his best to help Ashe but his best isn’t enough.

Ashe and Katsu are back in this installment and they face even bigger difficulties than before.  Ashe has somehow managed to get himself in trouble again.  When the leader says he must leave to protect everyone else his lover, Katsu, declares he will leave too. There isn’t much world building in this book as it has been done in other books, but you get a very medieval feel from the book.

Ashe and Katsu’s relationship is very close but neither will say to the other that they love them.  Even though it is obvious that they do. I really like the way these two interact and they are just perfect for each other. The story-line is cool and it doesn’t miss a beat. I love how we keep getting installments about these two that just work perfectly. I have to admit because I have read the other two books in this Dragon series it was easy for me to fall back into their relationship and how they treat each other.  For someone who hasn’t read any of the previous books I think their relationship would confuse people.  So I suggest that the previous books are read first.

I will recommend this to those who love fantasy, gruff men, cute elves, troublesome dragons and a good story.

Blurb: This retelling the Biblical mythos of the Creation and the Fall comes from the perspective of the Fallen: the angel Morningstar. It is the story of an angel, not of pride and envy, but of confusion and frustration. Forced to watch as the place of the angels as the Creator’s favored is slowly taken over by the rise of Man, Morningstar seeks solace with his lover, Radueriel.

Radueriel has a fanatical devotion to the Creator, and he repeatedly urges Morningstar to surrender to the Creator’s will. Unable to do so, Morningstar revolts against the Creator and His ineffable Divine Plan, jeopardizing his relationship with Radueriel and risking the wrath of God. The revolution fails, and the rebelling angels are expelled from Heaven.

Not to Hell, but to Earth.

Purchase Link: http://stormmoonpress.com/books/Morningstar.aspx

Review: Morningstar has lost faith with God.  he believes the Almighty is pushing the Angels away and is also making a mistake of His treatment of Man. Radueriel still believes in the Almighty’s wisdom and tries to steer Morningstar from his rebellious path.

This is a beautifully written tale of the Fall of the Angels and is told from Morningstar’s point of view. This story for the first half reads like a biblical tale.  Morningstar begins to doubt God when he creates Man and then punishes those who did not deserve to be punished. Morningstar starts to have other doubts and so begins his rebellion. Radueriel does everything he can think of to save Morningstar but failed, now after thousands of years he goes to Morningstar on Earth.

This is a beautiful rendition of the Fall of the Angels while showing that Morningstar was not filled with envy or pride but believed that the Angels rightful place was being usurped by the humans. The love between Morningstar and Radueriel is loving and pure even when they are on Earth.

I will recommend this to those who love religious themed m/m, that has sweet and rough love and an alternative to the normal Devil/Satan/Lucifer Fallen Angel theme.

Blurb: When Prince Liander and his Guardian, Hollis, are captured during a raid while visiting the south coast of Tesla, they find themselves chained in pairs to other captive villagers. Once taken aboard ship, they realize they’re prisoners of their country’s ruthless enemy, and for his protection, it’s vital Liander’s identity is kept secret.

The new slaves are horrified to learn they’re to be trained in the use of swords, other weapons, and unarmed combat so they can fight in an arena for the entertainment of their captors. The situation is made worse because Fortil, to whom Liander is chained, has no respect for his prince and has only one goal—to force the young man to have sex with him. Yet there is only one man Liander is interested in, and it certainly isn’t Fortil.

Hollis worries about his charge, wishes to whisk Liander to safety, but there’s nothing he can do as they are kept separate in different training halls, chained to other slaves, and seeing each other only rarely. Escape seems impossible, and desperation grows when it becomes obvious they may be forced to one day battle each other for their very survival…

Purchase Link: http://amberquill.com/AmberAllure/MoreThanChains.html

Review: Okay, I’ve labeled this Historical Fantasy because even though it is a fantasy world it kinda reminded me of Viking raids where they raided our coastal towns and carried our people away and of Romans training slaves to fight in Arenas. Liander is the youngest Prince of Tesla who is checking some historical research in a coastal town. On his last night there he is captured when the town is raided.  Hollis is a Guardian (bodyguard) to the Prince and the only reason he too is taken is because the leader of the raiders says his ‘spirit is that of a warrior’; he is glad as it means he can stay near his Prince.

This book has an incredible strong story-line and plot, its characters are good and the world building and descriptions are great. Hollis has deep feelings for Liander and although he knows that Liander would be able to take physical abuse he worries about the psychological effects that Liander may suffer. Liander loves Hollis but has never acted on it but now being in danger with no way of escape he takes the plunge and tells Hollis how he feels; Hollis swears that some way they will escape.

These two main characters are brilliant together, they have known each other for years, they have kept their feelings to themselves and even when their passion threatens to overtake them, they can rein it in because they know they have to survive. I really enjoyed this story because even though there are flashes of intense longing and passion there is a lot of focus on the story-line so it’s the story that counts and not the sex. But speaking of sex… oh yeah, it’s hot!   There is some slight rope-play so you receive a dose of kink and its gooooood.

So… if you want a historical feel to your fantasy, some intense longing and passion to your sex, soft touches and glances to your love and a bit of danger and torture to your story then this is the book for you.

Review: Joseph is talked into going to the Event by his best friend Jess, he really doesn’t want to go and doesn’t see the point as he is straight and can’t get pregnant. Mykael is being pressured to take a mate, as the leader of the Continent of Lithonur he is expected to have an heir, but the mate he finds is not the one that his friends expected.

Wow really, really great book that has a wonderful storyline and a great plot. Joseph may have met the only man/Tsatryan of his dreams but that doesn’t mean he’s going to rush into anything, Mykael has found his true mate and really doesn’t want to let him go. I loved this story as even though they both felt the bond Joseph wants to make sure it’s the right thing for both of them and even though Mykael would like to push the issue he lets Joseph make his own decisions.

This is a well written thought out story that isn’t overdone or crammed with too much information; you get just the right amount of info to keep you interested without it being long-winded or to technical. Fantastically done is all I can say. The plot was brilliant and gave you a good twist that I didn’t expect, there was worry and angst which was in keeping with the circumstances and there was happiness and joy for all concerned in the end. Yes I know I am being very vague but there is no way that I will give the plot away for this one, all I will say is that the Tsatrya race are all male and they can get pregnant but a successful pregnancy is rare, does that give you a clue? Maybe but don’t count on it.

The twist in this is really well done and the explanation is short and succulent and is brilliantly done so you don’t feel cheated at all. The characters are all brilliant, the sex is hot, everything fits together nicely and it’s a bloody good read, so I recommend you get this book and enjoy.

P.S. If you read this Ann T. Ryan then I want a sequel for Jess with his story being told. Please with whipped cream and cherries on the top… I’ll even add sprinkles.

Blurb: If con games were taught in high school, Spencer Crain would be on the honor roll. As it is, he’ll be riding the edge of failure to graduation next month. Then Spence gets the news that his long-gone father is not only dead, but was a Coyote, one of three clans of tricksters in the City.

With a near-catatonic mother on his hands, Spence couldn’t care less about the Coyotes’ on-going feud with the Phouka and the Kitsune—until it lands on his doorstep. Suddenly he’s thrown headfirst into a dangerous world he knows next-to-nothing about. His only guide is Rourke, dashing King of the Phouka, plus a growing pack of half-siblings, a god, and Fate herself.

As Spence embarks on a journey to learn the Coyote’s creed, the truth about his heritage, and how to handle his growing attraction to Rourke, he wonders when his life turned from TV sitcom to real-life danger zone. And what price must he pay to survive the next roll of the dice…

Review: Well hmmm what to say, what to say… I loved it, thought it was brilliant, so go out and get it… what? You want me to tell you why, geeze there’s no pleasing some people. Okay here goes… Spencer is an eighteen year old who is failing his classes, he gets the news that not only is his deadbeat dad dead, but he is half coyote as well and that’s when everything changes for him. Rourke is like an uncle to Spencer keeping an eye on him when he was growing up and being there for him if he needed it, when suddenly things change between them when they both least expect it.

This is a well thought out story-line and plot that, to be honest, if someone asked me to describe it I’d make a hash out of it and mess it all up. So I will just say this: there are twists inside twists and plots inside plots, there’s back-stabbing, intrigue, puzzles, tricks and pranks some for the long game but some for the quick pay off. We have the Fates and a God, an ex-Sorcerer, the Phouka, Kitsune and Coyote, a troll and… well I think the only thing that I didn’t read something about was Vampires but I might have missed it (don’t think I did but you never know).

The way this story is told is great, there is always something going on and sometimes you think you are being led astray but it always comes back around and makes perfect sense (sort of like a light bulb moment), it is brilliantly written and I am amazed that there was so much going on that Vaughn R. Demont didn’t lose his way or forget to tie something off. Brilliant.

The relationship between Spencer and Rourke is kinda like May to December in looks anyway as Rourke is described as looking in his fifties but is soooo much older than that… I wonder if that is his real appearance though because he’s the King of the Phouka and it says they are basically immortal.  Hmmm, I wonder…, so anyway getting back on track, Spencer doesn’t love Rourke but wants to still be with him. I think that’s for the future books, yeah!!

So if you like any of the above and some really, really hot sex then you need to read this book. I highly recommend this book but as I have said in previous reviews this is my favorite type of genre.

Blurb: Thanks to the efforts of Raymond Payet and l’ANS, vampires now have the same legal rights as mortals, and research at l’Institut Marcel Chavinier is focusing on the mysterious partnership bonds between wizards and vampires. But the battle for public opinion rages on. When Detective Adèle Rougier encounters Pascale Auboussu, a shy young woman turned into a vampire against her will, Raymond and Denis Langlois, chef de la Cour nearest the crime, fear a public relations nightmare.

The vampire responsible for Pascale’s turning must be brought to justice, but Denis is distracted by an unlikely potential partner—Canadian researcher Martin Delacroix, who is spending a year’s sabbatical at l’Institut—and Denis’s lingering feelings for his deceased lover prompt him to reject the bond. There’s no denying the attraction between them, though, and the allure of companionship is nearly as strong as Denis’s grief.

Growing familiarity and yearning for a true mate may induce Adèle and Denis to soften their stances against new partnerships, but Adèle will have to accept a deeper intimacy with Pascale when she has never considered a relationship with a woman, and it will take a near-deadly attack to make Denis admit his most hidden desires. Now he has to hope Martin will be willing to stay.

Review: Okay, I had some qualms about reading this one, why? You ask, well I loved the Partnership In Blood series and it ended, we had the epilogue and everything, I mean I mourned Alain and Orlando, all the other wizards were old, the vampires were gearing up for when they lost their own wizards and lovers and then suddenly we have the spin-offs, where they are all young again and it completely ruined it for me.  If it hadn’t had an epilogue and I hadn’t mourned then it wouldn’t have been a problem but it did and I had. I really couldn’t enjoy the book that much but I will still give you an honest review.

The story was well written and it had all the detail that we expect from Ariel Tachna, we had the emotional conflict, the physical conflict and the mental conflict. Denis doesn’t want a partnership; he lost the love of his life thirty years before and he just isn’t ready for any sort of long-term relationship. Martin is only in France for a year and although he is fascinated by the partnerships when he does embark on one he wants a vampire from where he lives in Canada. Adèle doesn’t want another partnership EVER after what she went through with Jude, but by accident she finds out that she is compatible to a newly turned vampire; now if she can just resist the pull. Pascale is turned against her will, she has to get used to her new life as well as deal with the discovery of being an eligible partner for a wizard and try to find a compromise within that partnership.

This storyline is really strong, the plot is good and the sex is hot. Now there is f/f and there are a few m/m scenes as well between the wizards and vampires that we have come to know and love. We discover a surprise about Denis’s old lover and we find out why Denis is so strong for such a young vampire. The way that the main characters all had to weigh up the pros and cons, their own wants and needs and the effect that it would have on their partnership partner was really good.  They didn’t rush into anything and they tried to find common ground before they entered the partnerships.

I recommend this to paranormal lovers, those who like conflict, hot sex and a great story-line.
