Blurb: For the past few years Yarroway L’Estrella has lived in exile, gathering arcane power. But that power came at a price, and he carries the scars to prove it. Now he must do his duty: his uncle, the king, needs him to escort Prince Garith to his wedding, a union that will create an alliance between the two strongest countries in the known world. But Yarrow isn’t the prince’s only guard. A whole company of knights is assigned to the mission and Yarrow’s not sure he trusts their leader.

Knight Duncan Purefroy isn’t sure he trusts Yarrow either, but after a bizarre occurrence during their travels, they have no choice but to work together—especially since the incident also reveals a disturbing secret, one that might threaten the entire kingdom.

The precarious alliance is strained further when a third member joins the cause for reasons of his own—reasons that may not be in the best interests of the prince or the kingdom. With enemies at every turn, no one left to trust, and the dark power within Yarrow pulling dangerously away from his control, the fragile bond the three of them have built may be all that stands between them and destruction.

Review: This is the second edition and there are no changes from the first edition… I mean come on; it was perfect the first time around 😉

Yarrow is called upon to escort his cousin to his wedding. It is something that he would rather not do, but for his aunt he will. It is a journey that brings him into contact with Duncan, a Knight who thinks little of him and Sasha, an assassin who could end up betraying them. It is a journey that brings danger, betrayal, political intrigue and exposes secrets and all three men have to band together to survive and expose the truth.

This is an absolute must read if you love high fantasy. Whoop, so happy! *little dance*. Yarrow is a magic user, the most powerful magic user of the time. But, Yarrow has a secret that makes him dangerous and he can’t trust anyone. So, he travels by himself keeping a distance from those around him… until he meets Duncan and then Sasha.

But how can he tell them his secret without losing them both? Duncan is a Knight, he will do his duty and make sure his charges reach their destination, but Yarrow calls to something inside him and then Sasha does as well. But, he hates Sasha for how he conducts his life and now Duncan is confused about his forbidden feelings. Sasha can’t love, it was trained out of him at a young age, but Yarrow causes him to begin to question what he has learned and Duncan drives him crazy and it ends up making Sasha make a choice that shouldn’t be a choice. After all, he is a cold-blooded assassin.

So, this is high fantasy at its highest and it is beautifully done. The world building is great, the backgrounds of the characters are well done and give us enough information to relate to them and the storyline and plot is wonderful. Although Yarrow is a powerful magic user, none of his magical scenes are overdone and there are even times when you think, he could have used more: but, as you learn, there is a high price he has to pay if he uses the most powerful magic, so, you can understand why he tries to limit what he does.

The main storyline is quite simple get the prince to his wedding. But, it is quickly quite apparent that there are plans afoot to derail the wedding and then the betrayals begin and the three men have to band together to ensure the prince lives and to save the kingdom.

There is a lot going on in this book with some interesting twists and turns. There are secrets that come out, political intrigue, betrayal, murders, traps, pursuits, battles, confrontations, lies and love. The relationship between Yarrow, Sasha and Duncan is complex and far from easy. There is plenty of hot sex, but these three men each have their own problems that they have to work through before they can fully accept the others; and Yarrow’s problem is a doozy.

You do not want to miss the fighting scenes or the battle scenes because they are brilliant, all the attention to detail was great and I loved it (have I mentioned I’m a bit Blood Thirsty). I loved each of the MCs as they were all completely different, with completely different values and attitudes towards things, so much potential conflict between them.

This is not the book to read if you want a nice light romance. The romance is hard going, but well-earned. The storyline is intertwined with danger and betrayal from all directions, the characters all have problems but aren’t too angsty and the action is great. The ending is one that leaves you wishing that the next book was already published so you can continue the journey.

So, I recommend this to anyone who loves high fantasy, difficult romances, hot sex, difficult journeys, betrayal, secrets, lies, action, battles, some bloody gore and three very intriguing heroes… oh, and an ending that will make you grit your teeth and scream silently for the next book.

Review: This is the 2nd edition and there are no changes from the 1st, but does have the short story Wolf’s-own Rapport as a bonus at the end.

This story picks up where Koan left off, so obviously you need to read the entire series, and yes I am being serious, this is not a series that can be picked up in the middle. Fen finds himself in the middle of the biggest fight for his life and sanity than anything that has come before (honestly everything before will look like a slight headache and a bit of an itch), Malick is still gone, people are after Fen either to recruit or to kill and his brothers are in danger.

Wow, an incredible end to the Wolfs-own saga. Everything we have seen before culminates to an incredible ending where we see a little happiness finally, at long last, for Fen. Fen is still running, but now he knows everything, and that everything might just push him that final inch into raging insanity, while Fen is finding the truth, his brothers and friends along with the Temshiel and maijin are fighting for their lives as those that have hidden in the shadows come out to play.

Fen begins to come into his own in this book, as he begins to realize that he truly does have choices that he can make, and no one, not even the Gods, can force him to do something he really doesn’t want to do. They may try to manipulate and coerce but unless Fen really wants it, it isn’t going to happen. When Malick reappears you can basically feel the complete relief poring off Fen, but he is a little bit more solid at his core.

Everything comes together beautifully and we have some fantastic battles and fights, some incredible malicious torture (go Malick go) and some of the most nasty, spiteful gods that we could ever see.
Nothing is missing in this story, everything we have learnt in the past and the hints we received are all made clear, there is nothing left to chance (although a short of Fen and Malick being happy would be cool), there are strings that are left dangling but not for our beloved Fen and Malick.

This story is well written and flows smoothly, the characters bring the story to life and the detail that we get feeds our imagination to a firestorm.

I have to recommend this to those who love high fantasy, danger, fights, magic, or have been there every step of the way through the rest of the series, this isn’t a story to miss and we catch a brief glimpse of happiness for Fen and Malick.

Caught between guilt and hope, Shan must find his true path in either the priesthood or in a man whose strength and survival defies the odds. Can the two men unravel a plot that threatens the entire world before Temar is broken by a system of slavery that has twisted out of control?

Review: This story is the 2nd edition and there are no noticeable changes from the 1st edition. This is not your typical M/M Romance. It is more Science Fiction which, I must admit, the M/M genre is still sadly lacking in at the moment.

Temar Grazer is a landowner but that doesn’t stop his sister from telling him what to do. As a result he and his sister Cyla are sentenced to slavery after her plan to prove a neighbor is stealing their precious water went disastrously wrong. In the process Temar finds out the truth as to who stole the water, and that’s when his troubles really begin.

Shan Polli is a priest who is a council member and even though he fought against it, is one of those responsible for Temar’s sentence. When he goes to check on Temar it leads him and eventually Temar to a race to save their own lives and that of the entire planet.

This is a great story that has a lot of meat to it. Shan has always felt a faint attraction to Temar but as a priest it’s off-limits for him to have a relationship. Temar always wanted to be a glass maker but has had to work the land; these two are forced together by circumstance and must rely on each other. Some parts in this book may offend people as there is evidence of physical and sexual abuse and references to child abuse.

We are introduced to a world that has been abandoned by the rest of humanity, the workers and families on this world have had to survive by sheer determination and with a strict society, everyone pulls their weight and those that fall foul of the law pay off their crime with a form of slavery or if the offense is really severe a walk in the desert that they won’t survive.

The storyline for this book doesn’t only weed out the bad apples in society and their dark secrets; it also reveals greedy landowners who are planning a betrayal so deep that it could mean the death of the entire planet.

The emotions in this story are incredible, the descriptions brilliant and the story is rock solid. As I said, this is more Science Fiction than romance. The romance is near the end when Shan and Temar decide they will try to make a go of it. There are no sex scenes for our main characters or even kisses, this is a bond that has been forged through danger and Temar needs that more than sex.

So I recommend this to any sci-fi fans who love the m/m aspect and a brilliant story line.

Review: This story is part of a series and must be read in order. This is the 2nd Edition and there are no changes from the 1st edition.

Duncan and Sasha are trying to settle into life at Windwake, but it is a struggle for both of them when many of Duncan’s vassals are against them. Sasha’s assassin ways are frowned upon and Duncan’s refusal to reward the conspiring vassals cause unrest, Duncan and Sasha cross swords when Sasha seeks to protect Duncan.

Yarrow has left the men he loves behind to seek a way to final part with the creature within him, but it is far harder than he ever imagined to even finding any clues, but his one slim hope is an old map and journal and with his friend, Sai, by his side he sets off. When Duncan and Sasha learn of Yarrow’s perilous journey, they race to be by his side, but what faces them all when they return home could end up destroying what the ancient being couldn’t.

Whoo *wipes sweat off brow* what can you say about a book that can weave a tale exceptionally while leading you in different directions and dangerous adventures… brilliant!! We re-join Duncan, Sasha and Yarrow as they love, argue and despair of the circumstances as they all try to do what is best for them and their country.

Each and every character is exactly as we remember them, Duncan is still devoted to what is right, Sasha still loves being an assassin and Yarrow is still a confusing jumble. As they progress in this story each man has his fears about the other two really accepting them and those fears are hard to put away when the politics of the country is determined to interfere.

The adventures that they face are astounding, the danger inherent and their love tested. I would love to say that we get all the answers that we want, but August Li leaves us with more questions, and I can’t wait for the answers.

We finally discover who the creature was in its previous life, we discover the truth of the Thirteen Goddesses and Yarrow faces up to his past, but it doesn’t end there as bargains are struck and new discoveries are made. I love this epic adventure and its incredible descriptions, I hate the circumstances that our men fall into, but adore the devotion they show to each other and I really can’t wait to see what happens next to our trio of characters.

I have to recommend this story to those who love high fantasy, bloody battles, escaping port, strange lands, incredible turns, dangerous sea journeys, binding love and an ending that makes you secretly grin in delight.

To fulfill Khron’s near impossible task, Farrell will need the help of his distance ancestor, the legendary wizard Kel. But Kel has been dead for a thousand years.

Farrell finds information hinting that Kel is alive, so he moves his search to Dumbarten, Kel’s birthplace. To reach Dumbarten unannounced, Farrell and Miceral disguise themselves as mercenaries on board a merchant vessel. Their journey is disrupted when pirates attack their ship. While attempting to subdue the attack, Farrell is struck down by one of Meglar’s minions.

Unconscious and trapped in his own mind, Farrell’s only chance for survival rests with Miceral and the peregrine king Rothdin entering his thoughts and helping him sort fact from illusion. Review: This is the second edition and there are no changes from the original edition. Oh my freaking God… put down whatever you are doing get this book and read your little hearts out. This type of book is the reason why I love fantasy so much, the pure joy of the imagination, the complete world building and the mysterious characters that all have their own stories.

Fen Jacin-rei is an Untouchable, a Ghost, a loner driven to distraction by the voices that plague him; it is only his training that saves him from complete madness. Kamen Malick is the leader of a small band of assassins who has been ordered to get Fen working with them at any cost. But as secrets come out about Fen, Malick has his own secrets that he is trying desperately to keep hidden.

Wow, just freaking wow, the world building in this book is world class, the characters are all incredible and the story line and plot are fantastic. The story begins with Malick looking for Fen and finding him, from then on the story and characters will intrigue and baffle you. Malick is just so full of awe about himself but he is completely loveable, Fen is a cold hardhearted bastard but as you get to know his story and background, you understand his need to be as cold as possible.

The story is from many POV not just Malick and Fen’s but also from Malick’s group of friends and Fen’s mentor, which means that we get a full-bodied story will lots of detail but we never lose focus of the story line. Malick spends most of the book trying to seduce Fen because he has a very cavalier attitude towards sex and it isn’t until he knows Fen a little better that he realises that he genuinely likes Fen. Fen spends a lot of time rebuffing Malick because of how he was treated in the past. We also have flashbacks to Fen’s life before; starting on the night, he was born.

I really can’t tell you more about the story line because really it would ruin it for you; this is a journey that you have to take yourself because you have to be immersed to absorb all the details that make it so good. The ending isn’t a happy ever after or a happy for now it’s a ‘we have to see what happens’, it is left in a place that will be picked up again in the next book (4 books altogether) and it will be a continuation of this story. Malick and Fen do get together in this and yes they have explosive, erotic and sensual sex but Malick has a long way to go to gain Fen’s complete trust and hopefully his love, while Fen will probably find it hard to believe Malick because of Malick’s own manipulation early on.

So in all honesty this is a fantasy whose characters just happen to be gay, if you are expecting sex and love on every page then don’t bother, this is a genuine Fantasy like Mercedes Lackey’s The Last Herald Mage. There’s a glossary at the end of the story if you find yourself lost with the various use of words and I’d recommend checking them out first.

So I recommend this to those who love fantasy, mystery, bloody fights, intrigue, scorching hot sex, great characters, awesome world building and the promise of another three books to come.

Review: The Seven Kingdoms are being systematically conquered by the dark wizard king, Meglar.  he won’t stop until he has them all under his rule and there is nobody powerful enough to stop him. Farrell is a young Grand Master wizard and he knows that the Gods have plans for him.  he will one day have to face Meglar, but first he has to help some of the Gods’ followers.

This story is absolutely brilliant, an action-packed high fantasy that drags your imagination along on an epic journey. Farrell is the Gods’ Chosen, he knows that one day he will have to face the dark Grand Master, Melgar and is preparing for that day. When he is asked by the Gods to help a neighboring Kingdom and informed that he will meet his mate, he is determined to do as the Gods ask. Meeting Miceral in the midst of battle surprises him, but the safety of a nation comes first. This is the beginning of an adventure filled with magic, danger, negotiation and love.

I really don’t think that I am able to really do justice to this story. I have to admit that I am floundering as to get my thoughts into words…this book dragged me in and didn’t let go until the last page and even then I wanted more. The storyline is fantastic, the characters are brilliant and the action is incredible.  I loved every magic filled minute. Farrell is a character that is secure in his position as a wizard and a prince, but when it comes to love is unsure and scared. Miceral knows that Farrell is the one for him and has no doubts.  he has to ease Farrell’s doubts and convince him that Farrell is more than enough for him. For some people it will seem that they connected very quickly, but when it has been ordained by the Gods, well, how can you complain?

There are lots of incredible details in this story, even during the battles. they give you enough so you can picture in your mind exactly what it must look like. With some stories we can become bogged down with details, but with this story there is always just enough to fuel the imagination. Farrell and Miceral’s relationship is great.  they are well-suited and are a great support for each other.  when they have the joining ceremony it is a beautiful moment in the book. The interaction between all the characters is brilliant and each one is drawn into the story in their own right and they fit perfectly. There is so much I want to say about this story, but to be honest; I would ruin it because this is just one of those books that you have to read for yourself.

I have to recommend that everyone gives this book a shot, because this story is filled with everything that you could ever want from a high fantasy; magic, magical creatures, great battles, rescues, escapes, and an assortment of great characters, a brilliant storyline and an ending that leaves you wanting more.
