Review: This is the second book in the Immemorial Year series and continues where the first book left off.

In this story Cavalo attempts to convince the people of Cottonwood to rise up and fight Patrick and his deadly rabbits. The townspeople are scared and frightened, yet they are tired of it as well.

Lucas and Cavalo grow closer as the story progresses. There are some intense fight scenes as well as some scenes that caused me to shed tears at the waste of human life. I hated Patrick with a passion and felt he was totally insane with the atrocities he committed.

The most heart-breaking scenes were when we learn of what happened to Lucas, and Sirs decision near the end. Both made me cry. I felt that what Lucas went through was unimaginable and could not believe someone who was supposed to love him did that.

I loved all the details and the planning the group did to prepare for vicious battles. Though not all went according to plan it was still effective to a point.

This story will have you on the edge of your seat all throughout. Fantastic book and I highly recommend it.

Blurb: When a greedy despot discovers a powerful piece of ancient technology, he has no idea what else he’s unleashing.

Earth was all but destroyed in the Cataclysm, but a few cities, now called Havens, survived. To accomplish its goals, Atlas enlists the help of Aaron Blake, a teenaged artist struggling with a handicap, and Otherlife security officer Steve Barrow, harborer of a dark secret from his past. Neither man has any idea of the scope of the task they’re facing, or the consequences for humanity if they fail. Atlas knows what’s at stake. Its freedom lies in these two men, and it will not hesitate to manipulate their weaknesses to get what it wants. The muscular Barrow is recruited to protect Blake, but Blake is Atlas’s true weapon, its Light Shaper—the only one who can face the Shadow.

Review: This is the second book in the Haven Prime series. Aaron Blake is talked into logging into Otherlife by his friend Misha. While connected an AI, Atlas, enlists his help. Aaron is summoned to Corpcom where they’re true intentions are revealed.

Barrow has a past he prefers to be kept buried forever. He applies for a job at Otherlife as a security guard. While in the training program Atlas enlists his help to protect Aaron. Tanner’s intentions are clear and it’s up to Barrow to keep Aaron safe from Tanner’s clutches.

I loved this story. It was well written and leads the reader on a journey of great importance. Aaron has to find the place where Atlas originated from and help him regain his power to protect humanity from a great evil that if left unchecked would destroy everything.

Intense scenes with deadly consequences, suspense, action, drama, and mystery are all throughout. What I liked best was how the end connects the first and second books. I am looking forward to reading more about how the AI will further reconnect his fragments.

Highly recommended.

Review: For twenty years humanity has tried to rebuild their world, after a Cataclysmic event that robbed them of their memories and knowledge. After relearning the basics and finding what they can still use to survive the population of the new Canal City have established the Scout and Ranger Corps, groups of people who fly out in the Skyships hoping to find other survivors and resources.

Dev is a skyship captain on the airship Smoke Sparrow heading to a small fishing town called Innsmouth, he’s taken many journeys just like this one and the scholar Shay is a young man he’s admired for some time. Shay is excited about Innsmouth and the mystery that surrounds it, it isn’t on any map and Shay wants to know why, he’s happy to be paired up with Dev again and although he does feel an attraction to Dev he’s already involved with their guard Malia.

Their visit to Innsmouth takes an abrupt turn when Malia goes missing during a scout of the town; it will take all their wits and bravery to face the horrors that lurk in the fog.

This is a brilliant post-cataclysmic horror story that bows its head to H.P. Lovecraft’s The Shadow Over Innsmouth, it’s beautifully written drawing us into the world where hate has been forgotten, where everyone is on equal footing and where love is love.

Dev and Shay are fantastic characters who face a horror that was best left forgotten, Malia is a brilliant character who surprises everyone with her strength and friendship. And the surprises that do crop up sure as hell do surprise you.

Dev and Shay’s budding relationship is tucked into the background as they investigate Innsmouth, the horrors they discover send a shiver down your spine… and being honest I’m unlikely to ever venture out when there’s a fog lingering.

The resourcefulness of the human race shines through as they try to build a world where they can survive, and although everyone has forgotten the past it also proves that some humans have an instinct for greed and power.

The world building is amazing and at times you can feel the damp fog sneaking up on you, the characters are given life as the story unfolds and the horror that comes to light really does send shivers down your spine. I can’t help but hope that there will be a sequel because that epilogue really has my hopes up 😉

I recommend this to those who love horror, post-apocalyptic stories, strong characters, a budding romance and an ending that leaves you intrigued.

Lisa’s Review: ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

This is the first story by this author that I have read and I must say I am ecstatic about it. Although I have to tell you that I was thinking sexy man in a uniform, hot sex and so forth. That is not what this story is about; there is romance to it, but more action, suspense and danger then anything.

Simon Monk is ex-army, ex-delta force who was drummed out when his lover turned out to be a traitor to their country. He had finished five tours in Afghanistan and ended up working for the CIA in a way. He was sent to kill those who posed a danger to others. He is extremely lethal and hard to kill.

This story is an action packed one with espionage, assassinations and deadly men. Egypt is not known for allowing gays so when a known married couple are assassinated, it is time for Simon to step in. He is ordered to lead the investigation. However, in what would seem like a case of homophobic hate, the situation has turned into something more dangerous. Someone wants to take over Egypt and it is up to Simon and Ben to stop them.

If you like dangerous situations, espionage, politics, foreign relationship, traitors, spies and so forth then this is the book for you. This story turned out to be quite extensive in how long the author had to do research. The plot is so damn twisted and complex, but it works for this particular story. The details were fully developed and so damn well designed that it was jaw dropping. The pace is a little off to me though.

I had trouble concentrating on the story because it was a slow building story. If you’re looking for hot sex then you might want to read another story because this is more about the action, suspense, danger and assassinations. Although the author seemed to be really into details because I thought some of it was just not needed. It took away from the story itself for me. Also the fact that women were in it, not as sexual characters but as military and so forth was a bit strange to me, I just could not see the bad guys having a female assassin or spy or infiltrator or whatever she was.

I understand that this is a series, but I am afraid that as well written that this story is, it was not for me. If you are into military and war stories though, this will be for you, but it is not really a romance story.

Pixie’s Review: ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

I agree with a lot of Lisa’s review, this story is action pack, with a lot of dangerous situations, espionage, political minefields, foreign relationship, traitors and spies. The story flows smoothly and it’s pretty fast paced for the type of storyline.

The story is really all about Simon Monk; nearly everything that happens happens around him with a couple of scenes with other characters highlighted to move the storyline along. Monk’s love interest is a man called Ben Namajunas, Special Forces, who is called in to help Monk with his mission. Ben and Monk have a long history and this time around Ben longs for something more from Monk rather than brief sexy times together.

Whereas Lisa finds it strange that women are used as strong key characters whatever their role, I found it to be quite refreshing that women were fit into roles that many authors would have left to men. The only thing that irked me was that the women were all stunningly beautiful; I’d have liked it if at least one of them was a ‘plain Jane’.

The storyline is strong; it keeps you gripped as it drags you along after Monk, dodging bodies, bombs, gunfire and traitors. The relationship between Monk and Ben was low key throughout the story, hanging around in the background with just a hint every now and again to keep the interest piqued. I loved the way the story was built; layers were added with every chapter until you had a full picture of Monk and what his life entails. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

I recommend this to those who love mystery and suspense laced with action and danger, who adore in depth characters, who love a solid storyline that is laced with just a bit of budding relationships.

Blurb: Praesidium is the most prosperous city-state in the world, due not only to its location at the mouth of a great bay but also to its strict laws, stringently enforced. Ordinary criminals become bond-slaves, but the worst punishment—to be suspended in a dreamless frozen state known as Stasis—is doled out by the wizard and reserved for only the most serious of traitors.

Ennek is the youngest son of Praesidium’s strict Chief. Though now a successful portmaster, Ennek grew up without much of a purpose, unable to fulfill his true desires and always skating on the edge of the law. But he is also haunted by the plight of one man, Miner, a prisoner for whom Stasis appears to be a truly horrible fate. If Ennek is to save Miner, he must explore Praesidium’s deepest secrets as well as his own.

Review: Strange, yet interesting book. Stasis is where criminals are put to sleep until enough time has gone by then they are woken up and forced to become slaves. I had a huge problem with this myself. The prisoners are being punished by being put into stasis so I did not understand why when they were woken up they were forced to become slaves. I do not approve of slavery in any way, shape or form.

Ennek does not agree with the way things are, yet at the same time he really is not in a position to change anything. He becomes interested in a prisoner in stasis and wants to help him.

I must say I was appalled by Miner’s reason for being a prisoner but at the same time thought it was poetic justice that the chief’s son was the one he saw when he was woken up. Some of the laws in this story horrified me. I couldn’t believe someone could be sentenced to stasis for one thousand years simply for falling in love.

I truly loved this wonderful story. It called to me on a level I was not expecting. I loved the way the story played out bit by bit. Great read.

Review: I loved the fantasy and mythology throughout this book. It’s about two brothers who were created only to have something happen and have their hearts removed. According to a prophecy if the ones they are meant to be with find them again then they will get their hearts back though they won’t be as powerful.

Renoldo has yet to find his heart. His attitude certainly has a lot to do with that. I have to say one of the things that confused me was Casto and Renaldo’s so called relationship, as when Casto is first captured he is sixteen. I felt the master/slave factor was all there was to the relationship.

I did not feel that Casto and Renaldo had a real relationship at all. I loved Casto. He thinks for himself and does not let Renaldo push him around when he does not agree with him. There were so many characters and POV’s that at times I was lost in what exactly was happening.

I loved the banter between Casto and Renaldo. I enjoyed the witty, sarcastic comments from both and found myself laughing when they fought.

All in all it was an o.k. read.

Review: I have read a few books by this author and must say that every time I do I am left speechless. There is just something about the way the words just flow off the pages. This one is no different but I could not really get into it like I should have. I was not a fan of Christian themes and their thoughts and beliefs. It is not my thing and the fact that I don’t believe just made it harder to get into it.

There is very little romance to this story which is common with this particular publisher. It is also a very dark themed story which actually does not work in its favor with me. I am usually left with a bitter taste in my mouth. I also never could understand why a grown man would call another grown man boy.

Charlie finds Joe naked on his doorstep. He fights his attraction for the sexy young man and knows it is wrong to touch. He goes out of his way to not let Joe know what he is feeling. Joe was not born like a normal human, but made into a man from the start. He has no idea of what life is about, just that his godly father dropped him off on Charlie’s doorstep.

Charlie is a bit of a recluse and an artist. He lives on an isolated lake just painting, with a past that has made him this way, he had no desires to get romantically involved. That is until Joe is dropped on his doorstep. Yet there is not the sexual heat one would find or even the entanglements one would expect. It is more about the ethical and religious beliefs than anything. Now this book is well written with a lot of depth to it and fully developed. I am afraid that this book was not expected.

This novel is one of those types that if you go into detail to much you will give away the plot so I will leave it at this. I am afraid that this was one book that was not for me. I love John’s work but this one just didn’t work for me. I could not connect with the characters nor the story itself. It is well written and will bring those to tears who are into this kind of story though.

I would definitely recommend it.

Shorty’s Review: ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

This is the first book in The Vampire Guard series. I did not know how I’d feel about this book due to this is the first one I have read by this author but man was I surprised. It had everything I could want in a story and then some. Mystery, deception, hot paranormal men, action, suspense and adventure. This story wraps the reader in a world that is anything but ordinary.

I really enjoyed getting to know the MC’s of this book and their partners. Jonas is a vampire and a cop and stops at nothing to solve a crime. Blair, a vampire, technician and Jonas’ partner seemed unsure of himself except when it came to solving a crime, though I understood as he was still in the ‘newbie phase’ as I call it.

Declan, a vampire, was one of the most mysterious of the characters. That was due to his work before. It added a level of danger and anticipation that I enjoyed. He seemed nice but yet cold as ice when the situation was necessary. Lucas is a werewolf, medical examiner. Declan’s partner and Jack’s best friend.

I loved the interactions between these men and was stunned as to how well they all worked together. I think that the group that wanted to recruit them could have just asked them rather than lie and kidnap them. The mystery of the book was well written and riveting. I enjoyed the folklore and legend involved and was astounded as to what actually happened.

This book will captivate you from the start and have you reading until the very end to find out the end result. With brilliantly detailed scenes that leave you holding your breath to the actual details of the crimes this book was a winner to me if I could give it 10 stars I would.

I am so glad I had the opportunity to read such an amazing story. I am looking forward to reading more of this series. Highly recommended.

Pixie’s Review: ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

I fully concur with Shorty’s review; Elizabeth Noble has, yet again, written an amazing story that you can lose yourself in. The characters shine yet again (The Sleepless City series 2 & 4) and we see them as they embark on a new adventure as they take their unique skills and use them for the greater good.

The best thing for me though is catching up with Jonas, Blair, Lucas and Declan again and seeing how their relationships have continued to be strong and loving. I seriously can’t wait to see what Elizabeth and The Vampire Guard series has in store for us next!

I recommend this to those who love paranormal stories with added mystery, who adore characters that come alive before your eyes, who fangirl/boy over amazing storylines and for those who love it when myth and legend surprises even the most jaded of paranormals!

Review: Oh my god this book was so good. You have Miles Fox who has a secret gift he was told never to use lest he lose everyone he cares about. Now a medical student he goes against what he promised his grandmother and uses his gift to heal a man.

Unfortunately, it brings negative attention to him in the form of Dr. Gerald Stangl, who has been following Miles waiting and planning for the perfect time to have Miles in his clutches so he can covet the gift and have it for his own. I loved the background details on Stangl’s family and what they represented. It brought awareness and a deeper understanding to Stangl’s motives.

This story is full of twists and heart stopping moments. Dr. Stangl’s family has been trying to figure out how to get the gift out of one person and into another for a very long time. There are mentions of Nazi’s and prisoners and what was done to these individuals as result.

Spellbinding and mind-blowing it shows just how far one is willing to go to get the ultimate gift for themselves no matter the cost. Brilliantly written it is a roller coaster ride of deception, suspense, murder, experiments and love. I loved it and am looking forward to reading more.

Highly recommended.

Review: This is the first book in the Windbrothers series. Kade, a slave losing hope amid all the cruelty is yet again given to a new master. What he does not expect is the kindness of his new master instead of the cruelty he is used to.

Surial is sent to Azize to run a business. While there he wins a slave in a card game. He thinks about selling him to someone else as he detests slavery but something holds him back. This is not a sparks fly on meeting each other kind of book. It’s rather a story where two cultures are intertwined and customs are brought to light.

It was a breathtaking story full of rich history and detailed accounts on certain things that happen. I truly loved this story especially as Kade and Surial seemed to respect each other. It was well written and thought out. The secondary characters I assume will be in other books in this series the further it goes.

Great read that I thoroughly enjoyed.
