Review: I’m going to be up front about this book – while I enjoyed the book and the concept I didn’t find myself wowed by it either. For me, Garrett Leigh is a new author. I enjoyed her writing style and thoroughly enjoyed reading the book from start to finish. However, once more I am brought back to the fact that I wasn’t completely blown away by the story, which has ultimately left me a little disappointed.
The main characters of this story are Dominic Ramos and Lucky Coleman. They are both very interesting characters and vastly different personalities, heavily influenced by the very different paths their lives are on before their meeting.
When they meet, it was never meant to be more than a Grindr hookup, which Lucky desperate to make money. He often sleeps rough on the street or in shelters, or if he’s desperate he will crash at his best friend’s place. Despite what he is forced to do, Lucky is a strong man and has a very defined moral compass. In this way he was so easy to relate to and it was so easy to feel for him more so than for Dominic.
Dominic is thoroughly buried in the closet. Dom is a professional football (soccer) player in England’s Premier League and he knows that he can’t have his career as the league’s most feared defender and come out of the closet. And so he is stuck to a life of stolen blowjobs and hook ups.
Now I think this is where my not being totally blown away by this book stems from: I will grant you, there is definitely some drama and some low-level angst. However, for me a book like this could have the potential to be completely over the top, which could be both good or bad. The good thing about the low-level angst and drama is that it makes both Dom and Lucky so very relatable – they are ordinary blokes. The bad thing is that this is a long book without any great drama to overcome. Which brings me back to the good point that these are just two guys getting to know each other and somehow along the way falling in love.
And that, my friends, is the problem that I am stuck with in my head as I try to give this a proper and sincere review.
Anyone who loves a sweet romance that is just a tad Pretty Woman will love to read Lucky. I’m still undecided if I will read the next story in the series – there is an excerpt for the character Cash who we had met all too briefly.

Review: For me there is a long list to love Changing Lines: 1) VL Locey and RJ Scott, I adore everything these lovely ladies write, especially together. 2) Hot professional sportsmen falling in love in an open minded team. 3) I’ve already read the book and loved it completely, so I’ve been looking forward to listening to the audio. And 4) Just quietly, I also love the little things that Locey adds in because I know that she, like me, is a Doctor Who fan who totally loves David Tennant – so much so one of the main men in Changing Lanes is named after my very much beloved Matchstick Man, the 10th Doctor. Also Tennant, as well as having a penchant for Pokemon, also loves Doctor Who.
The story is about new recruit to the ice hockey team the Harrisburg Railers, Tennant Rowe. He is the youngest of the three Rowe brothers, one of the biggest names in hockey, who are some of the greatest players currently in the NHL. Ten has been traded to the Railers, a new team to the NHL, where is ready to make a name for himself and not be just the youngest Rowe brother.
The defense coach for the Railers is Jared Madsen – Mads. Before a heart defect ended his career, Mads was team mate and friend to Ten’s older brother, Brady. Mads, who is bisexual himself, is convinced of a couple things at first – that Ten is straight and that even if he weren’t, with approximately ten years between them he is too old for Mads.
In all, this is a light-hearted story set on ice. Ten and Mads are wonderful together. I love their chemistry and their relationship. The sex scenes are hot, and I enjoyed them. Mads has a very serious personality and Ten is just the person to loosen him up. I love the calamity that is Ten’s family – who are both endearing and hilarious. This was where it was clear that these guys were truly written for each other. I adore the book (and the series) as well as adoring the characters.
However, the one flaw that detracts away from the novel is that I still, despite rereading and listening to the audio book, wanted more of Ten’s public coming out as a professional hockey player who is at the beginning of his career. Mads is known by his colleagues to be bisexual so that is a non-issue, giving more time on Ten’s story.

Being traded to the Railers is a shock to the system but the team isn’t like any other he’s ever played on and they truly seem to care about him. It’s only when he meets artist Gatlin, with their shared love of music and hockey, that he realizes how hard it is to escape the past.
Review:This story is part of a series and must be read in order.
Gatlin is a tattoo artist who does tattoo’s and gear designs for the Railers, when the new backup goalie is brought into his shop he is immediately struck by the younger man’s looks but it’s his haunted eyes that really capture Gatlin’s attention.
Bryan is scared to be excited about his move to the Railers, he’s had it dung into his head that they will turn on him at the first opportunity and Bryan doesn’t know what to believe when they seem to welcome him with friendly open arms. Meeting Gatlin has Bryan questioning the ‘relationship’ he’s in and it takes the friendship of both Gatlin and the Railers for him to see the abuse that he receives for what it is.
This is an amazing addition to the Harrisburg Railers, I will give a warning that there’s a scene that will take your breath away in shock but I won’t give any details so you can discover it for yourself.
Bryan is a sweetheart who has been beaten down first by his birth parents and then by his last team, his so-called boyfriend was the worst of the abusers and he’s still got his hooks in Bryan. While Bryan begins to fight off the ingrained bullying he begins to open up to Gatlin and it’s with Gatlin’s silent strength that Bryan finally shakes off the chains that held him back.
Gatlin hasn’t had the best relationships in the past but he’s willing to give Bryan a chance and after a couple of false starts his relationship with Bryan blooms. Bryan and Gatlin make a fantastic couple and while they both have things from the past that haunt them they overcome them with the support of the other.
I can honestly say that it was a pleasure to catch up with the Railers team, especially Stan (he’s my favourite J ), we are treated to the entire team making Bryan welcome so there’s some high jinks and fun. There’s also the amazing support that they show each other, the coming together of brothers in arms, the emotional support and the steadfast refusal to let anything shatter the team. This really is an outstanding story.
I recommend this to those who adore men finding the strength to face down bullies, who love a sweet love story playing out on the pages, who adore a fast paced hockey story with fantastic characters, and who love storylines with a happy ending for a lovely couple but a storyline that still needs to play out.

Review: Oh no, for the first time EVER, I have to say this wasn’t my favorite Amy Lane book. I’m not sure what happened, maybe I just couldn’t connect with Richie, or maybe the whole friends-to-lovers build-up never happened for me, but there you have it. I liked this book a lot, don’t get me wrong, but I didn’t love it, and I TRIED like crazy to get more into it.
Richie and Skipper have been best friends for a couple of years now, and neither of them were able to make a significant connection with any girls they’ve dated throughout their lives, and all of a sudden there was this awareness between them that they acted on in two minutes flat. I wanted to see when the attraction started happening and when they started noticing each other’s bodies. I’m normally all over GFY stories, Amy Lane’s brand especially, but not this time. It all happened too fast, without the build-up I crave.
Richie, unlike Skipper, has a family, but they’re a bunch of assholes that take advantage of him and treat him like crap. Somehow, Richie still lives in the garage on his parent’s property, paying them an outrageous amount of rent, still works for the family business, and still takes all the crap they dish day after day. I was honestly baffled because there was no reason good enough to justify such faithfulness from Richie when it came to his family. What really annoyed and upset me was the fact that Richie put his family above Skipper for the most part of the book, and Skipper deserved better than that.
To be completely honest, this is the first time I’ve liked a secondary character better than a main one in any of the previous Amy Lane books that I’ve read. Carpenter and Skipper were my favorite dudes, and I liked Mason a lot better than I did Richie as well; hell, I liked the soccer team better than Richie and his martyr-ness.
This was a nice holiday book, and i definitely look forward to more in the future.
