Blurb: Brett Taylor’s world collapsed three years ago when he lost the love of his life. Almost as bad as the grief is the advice he’s starting to get from everyone and their brother, telling him it’s time to move on. They’re flat-out wrong. He left his career as a musician and escaped to his ranch be-cause he needs the peace and quiet, and he’s doing just fine. He doesn’t want anyone invading his memory-filled, booze-fueled solitude.

JT Campbell’s world has been defined by his parents’ money, status, and his own empty rela-tionships, until he’s desperately sick of it. A quest to find something meaningful leads him to Brett’s failing ranch. It’s supposed to be a brief stay. JT never wanted to be anyone’s savior or compete with the ghosts of lovers past. Still, he can’t help wanting this gruff and grieving man.

JT’s mind knows it’s a bad idea, but his heart keeps pushing him to find out what lies beneath Brett’s rough and broken exterior. Brett’s not going to make it easy. JT can only be patient, keep his sense of humor, and hope for the day he may be allowed far enough into Brett’s world to unbreak his heart.

Review: Unbreak My Heart is a beautifully sweet romance by K-Lee Klein. The author was completely unknown to me, so I didn’t know what to expect. What I found is a wonderfully written slow burn romance about losing a great love, being forced to face reality and ultimately learning how to allow love back in. It is also a sad story, with probably a touch of angst. In many ways this reminded me a little of Andrew Grey with that all-important theme of finding love after loss, with the ranch setting and cowboys thrown in.

The narration by Nick J Russo was excellent. I can’t think of a performance of Russo’s that I haven’t enjoyed. His soft-spoken voice created the perfect tone for this heart felt story.

When we meet Brett Taylor, he is a broken man. He has lost the love of his life, and that is part of the grief that keeps him firmly stuck in his whiskey bottle. However, as we get to learn more about Brett, he also has to work through his own guilt and regret from the past. Retreating to alcohol, he has firmly shut out the past, quitting his life as a popular musician and closing everyone off, holding on tightly to his misery. He resents that his family insists that it is time to move on. Brett is a stubborn sod and he decides to dig his heels in.

All that changes when JT Campbell is forced into his life. JT is a bit of a mystery to Brett. JT came from money and privilege and so many empty relationships that he decides to leave it all behind to find himself. JT knows what a disaster it could be to fall for a man who was hanging onto the ghost and memories of his dead lover, but JT is attracted and he wants to do anything to help Brett.

If you’re into slow burn romances and cowboys this is for you. Of course, there is the typical explosion of drama required at the end of any book, but I love how it all played out.

Unbroken Hearts

(Unbreak My Heart 02)
by

K-Lee Klein

Country singer turned rancher Brett Taylor fought his way out of the bottle, so he could have JT Campbell in his life.  JT’s patience, intelligence, and humor broke through Brett’s walls of depression, and now the once-isolated rancher and his young California guy in search of himself are together on Brett’s Texas ranch.

While Brett and JT are more in love than ever, they’re still dealing with past baggage and learning how to move forward. Brett’s former lover casts a long shadow over their lives—one JT tries to pretend doesn’t bother him. Can Brett soothe his fears with the sort of sappy, sentimental Valentine’s Day JT was taught to shun growing up—but secretly always wanted?

When Halloween rolls around, a costumed night out at the local bar might lead to another romantic first. And on Christmas morning, JT awakes to some sweet loving and the most meaningful gift he could ever imagine. The New Year truly brings a new beginning—ushered in by some silly, sparkly, and sexy fun.

One year. Four important holidays. Two men who have worked hard for the love and trust they share and the bright future that’s finally within their grasp.

Review: This story is a 2nd edition and other than some minor editing the story is the same.

What a soul-gripping book. How very mesmerizing and alluring, heartbreaking and gut wrenching, and how very sweet – even corny at times – and romantic. Yes, I liked this book a lot. What was there not to? The theme has been told a million times, yet it was still wonderful to read it through this penmanship. The characters have been a cliché for as much as I remember, yet this Southern Cowboy and City Kid are refreshing in ways I didn’t expect. The end is as transparent as a crystal, yet as so comforting and heart mellowing that makes you want to just melt.

I think I was a bit scared of this book as I started reading it. Our protagonist is in deep grief, still mourning for his lost lover and the pain he suffers drips from every line and affects you like poison. Your heart contracts and gets stiff, like someone is crushing it in a fist, and you can’t help but empathize with him, it’s simply unavoidable. I thought I’d be in for a tearful ride that would leave me emotionally drained, and while the first quarter did managed to get me in such a state with Brett not letting go of the past, his guilt, and his zombie-like existence, the plot moved on and I jumped along with it in a wonderful place, in a remote ranch with some witty, charming and oh so lovable men.

You see these men are too freaking deep. They have layers and layers of personality that you slowly get to peel while moving on with the story. The rancher is more than he looks like at the beginning, the wandering hitchhiker is actually a grown up man with a degree in psychology, and the foreman is a man with little words and tons of meaning. You find yourself falling in love with each of them, even the darn Mama Taylor, and you start caring for them, and with care, comes longing for them to stop hurting and start falling in love and heal their broken hearts, because damn, they all have a broken heart no matter if Brett’s a bit more shattered.

Ah, I got worked up again, but that’s all right. This book does that to you, it makes you hurt, it makes you cry, then it lifts you up with hope and mellows you with a sweetness unlike any other, and just when you sigh and think things are going alright, the author exploits human curiosity and stupidity and turns the tables making your heart stutter and hold your breath as things get worse and worse and everything seems to simply blow up in your face…

You know what they say, things get worse before it gets better, and this book proves it to you in a very explicit way.

But fear not; you don’t get to hold your breath on the emotional part of this story exclusively. You get to have your heart palpitations with the erotic side too. Yeah, it is so damn hot I have no words for. I even got lost in one of them scenes, playing it in my head over and over, and it was after a bit of time had passed that I realized I was no longer reading, rather seeing the damn scene in my head and getting all hot and bothered as these characters would have said.

I loved the writing here, the distinction between horniness and lust and lovemaking and sweet cuddling, the balance of all these things. You got to feel them, really feel each of these stages these men went through, feel the sensuality, feel the lust and desperate longing for another body, another soul. It was simply a great delivery of sentiments, images, and emotions, and they had this magic effect on you, taking you with them, getting into your head and under your skin. Lovely, lovely writing!

Bottom end this book was simply great. You laugh, you cry, you fall in love, you get desperate and hopeful, you get to the edge and saved last-minute along with Brett and JT, and you spend how-many hours it would take you to read this in a most wonderful way.

I totally recommend this book to those who love a great romance with some wonderful Southern men.

Review: Usually one goes for books because of their titles and blurbs, however in this case the author has always given me stories that I end up reading more than once. This story was no different. I love the paranormal and fantasy world. K-lee always gives you a world that you can lose yourself into. It is a world that I would love to find out more about. This is book three and I would suggest starting with the first book.

I find that even though it is broken into two different parts, it worked pretty well for this story. Most times it drives me nuts and leaves me with questions. However with this one it was easy to follow. Now the only problem I had was it seemed way too descriptive and drawn out to me. Other than that it was a great read.

Manny is very special and such a dream to read about. He wants what his friends have, a true spirit mate. He wants the happiness they have and wants it now. He is getting tired of waiting. He didn’t have a great home life which is what captivated me with him. I felt more for him then I have with many of the other characters. He has a family now, one that he has chosen. They are a sort of mismatched and quirky. His little family of misfits wants the best for him as well.

The problem was Manny’s spirit mate was not connecting like they should. Manny wants his to be like his friends. Mika on the other hand never wanted his fated mate, but will help Manny. I do love the way K-lee makes you feel what the characters are feeling. Mika wasn’t a favorite of mine in the other stories, but he made headway in this one. I love how he gives up so much to make Manny happy. It also made me feel bad for him at the same time.

The story draws you in and keeps you there to the very end. I had so much fun reading this and look forward to reading more by this amazing author. I loved the way K-lee makes you anticipate what is going to happen next.

I had a blast with this story and look forward to reading more by this author. I can’t wait for the next her next story.

I would definitely recommend it.

Blurb: Philip Dunlop grew up in a traditional family with a strict former-military father and a full-time homemaker mother. Now he’s graduated from the Air Force Academy with a promising military career ahead of him.

Dusty Baxter’s upbringing was far more unconventional, with a free-spirited single mother who encouraged Dusty to follow his heart and forge his own path in life. So he does, wearing his hair long, writing songs of peace, and going with the flow in a world at odds with itself.

In spite of their different backgrounds, Phillip and Dusty formed a firm bond of friendship as kids, a friendship that inevitably grew into love as they, and their relationship, matured. Now, Phillip’s family wants him to focus on his military career and settle down with a nice girl. They’ve known Dusty forever, but he’s still the very definition of everything they think is wrong with the turbulent world of 1970.

As Phillip’s friend, Dusty’s politely tolerated. But if the truth of Dusty and Phillip’s relationship comes to light, the revelation just might be the wedge that tears apart not only Phillip’s family, but Phillip and Dusty as well.

In a time of war-mongering and peace signs, can best friends find enough common ground to save their love and move forward together into the future?

Review: I chose this book because the author was recommended by some friends. I wasn’t sure what to think at first. The title came off as historical so I was apprehensive at first. Then the cover made me think of a hippy in the sixty’s so I was kind of figuring that it would be bizarre. Then I made the mistake of looking at the reviews and it said something about young age. So I was not sure I even wanted to look at the book. I have to tell you, not to judge a book by its cover is pretty much right on.

Phillip and Dusty met as young boys and formed a friendship that would see them through trouble times. However they were definitely different from each other. Phillip went in to the military and Dusty was doing the peace thing. They found love in each other, but Phillips family was pushing him to do the straight thing. When the truth comes out it could go either way, but could tear them apart. These two have been through a strong friendship and a love that has grown.

I loved the story although it was definitely not for me. It shows how strong friendship can be to survive a time where love between two men could get them killed, not to mention the military would have kicked his ass out. Phillip is the type to overlook someone’s appearance and attitude for the good in them. Whereas Dusty looks like a hippy and people looked down on him. I think that the fact that Phillip saw what was inside of him and loved him no matter what was great.

It came off perfect, even though it could have been a bit dark. I would recommend it and look forward to more by this amazing author. I did have fun with it.

Blurb: “Confessing your love is only the first step to starting your lives together.”

Bryan Monroe took a chance when he told Chrys Delos, his best friend and partner on the police force, that he loved him, but he never thought he’d get so lucky when Chrys returned the feelings. Now, although he and Chrys are over-the-moon happy, Bryan wants to take their relationship to the next level in two big ways.

Chrys has healed nicely from the gunshot wound that could have cost him his life. But now that it’s time for him to return to work, he and his partner-turned-lover must navigate their new relationship on the job.

It’s one thing to clearly define the love they feel for each other, but it could be an entirely new challenge when they tell their friends and family about the change in their partnership…

Review: Bryan and Chrys have enjoyed the solitude that Chrys’ time off the job has afforded them. Aside from a trip to Greece with his father, Chrys has been resting, healing and taking his partnership with his best friend to the next level. You see, not long ago Chrys thought his feelings for his best friend would never be returned.

Then he went and got himself shot and everything changed. Bryan focused more on the bigger picture and less on the stigma associated with being gay.

These two have been through a lot together as partners at work and best friends for many years. But nothing could prepare them for family birthdays, not being partners at work anymore or the stress of moving in together. They are about to learn that you don’t always get handed those perfect moments, sometimes, you have to make them.

Just a fun, fast, smexy read. I liked the insight into the relationship as Bryan and Chrys continue to grow as a couple while Bryan is still struggling with some things. And then when some things don’t go as planned, they both start to doubt they are making the right decisions. But in the end, they always find the perfect moment for love and affection and building on the family they are making together.

A little bit of angst, a lovely shower scene and a whole lot of love make this little ditty the perfect sequel!

Note: this is the second book in a series that must be read in order. If you haven’t read Never the Perfect Moment yet, you have to start there.

Since my kids are basically grown and Christmas doesn’t hold the innocent excitement it once did, my favorite thing about the holidays is the lights – outside and inside. Despite being a self-proclaimed hermit & darkness-loving, non-bloodsucking vampire, the magical and colorful lights of Christmas entrance me. One of our family traditions is going to be something called Zoolights—which is exactly as it sounds, our local zoo decorated with stunning light displays. No matter how cold it is we always bundle up and go. Last year we were away for Christmas, but still found a place almost as beautiful to share our appreciation of the brilliance of the holidays. photo 2Oh, and did I mention I have a string of Christmas lights hanging in my room for magical inspiration year round?

Happy Christmas-light-infused holidays to you all.

Blurb: Brett Taylor has been doing just fine living in his own little world for the past three years, thank you very much. Losing someone special is life changing, and Brett doesn’t understand why everyone and their damn dog thinks they can get all up in his business about him needing to move on. He managed to make the transition from musician to rancher without relying on anyone else’s opinion or help, and he certainly doesn’t need some city kid coming into his life to disrupt his routine—one that involves grief, isolation, and a whole lot of Jack Daniels.

Moving from one meaningless job to the next, JT Campbell is on a quest to escape his old life and figure out who he is and where he belongs. He’s not looking to save anyone, let alone a secretive, hotter-than-hell rancher who wears his heart on his sleeve. JT likes working for Brett, but Brett’s made it perfectly clear that any relationship between them other than a professional one will never see the light of day.

But when JT’s lust turns to love, and he gives in to his desire to find out what makes Brett tick, will his interest push Brett away? Or will he, through his patience and support, be the one who can finally unbreak Brett’s heart?

Review:  Oh dear me, what a story…I must confess that I did think when starting this book that I was in for a ride. Well, I was in for a ride alright, but not the expected one. I think I’m freaked out from the memories this book awakened and the frustration that had its hold on me for almost the entire read.

Gabe and Matty are new to the fatherhood lifestyle and of course like all parents, they try to find their path. While Matty seems to be dealing with it pretty good, Gabe has gone crazy with his OCD and shopping mania.

And oh my God, the flashbacks, the déjà vu, and the agony all that brought to me. Sweet Jesus, I thought I’d left all that behind.

As is normal when you have a new baby in the house, the nerves and your sanity takes a good hit, having twins just doubles all that. Eventually the pair goes from the happy place of having the babies to the accusations of you do too much and you don’t do nearly as much and pointing fingers and having fights to the point of breaking up.

What really got me the most during this read was their “talks” (not fights because they did not fight, they were having a discussion, right?) and how real they were. The fact that each of them only said their peace, intentionally blinding themselves to their own mistakes, and oh dear, the misunderstanding of each word was so real to me. I’m still cringing inside.

Anyway, of course the story ends well. The new daddies find their peace after an honest talk that to my eyes felt surreal because you do NOT overcome such emotions with a simple talk and a make-up sex. But even if I do acknowledge the well written part of their problems and agony over their new life, this story didn’t make much sense to me. The end was a bit… I don’t know what the point was and add that to the fact that emotionally and sexually I did not feel the pair’s chemistry at all. This story left me baffled. The only reason for the 2.5 stars I’m giving this story is the realistic portrayal of those oh-so-awful-days when hormones hit you and you barely can cope with the changes of your reality. Other than that, I really needed more and didn’t get it. For me, this story was far off the Christmas spirit with nothing to do with the Holidays at all.

Review: Oh My God, get the hoses out because while reading this you will need to be hosed down most of the way through.

Rylan Rivers has just turned 35 and has come to the realization that he wants more from his band mate, best friend and lover Gage Galeano than just the sex that they have had together and with others over the last 5 years. Gage knows what Rylan needs and he will provide it for the both of them if he can just get Rylan to listen.

Wow, this one had me hot right from the start; the opening scene is descriptive, explicit, well-crafted and incredible hot. We read with bated breath as these two men vie for dominance over the other and then we wait with our breath held as we watch Rylan’s reaction to Gage’s surprise.

This is a well written short that for me hit all the right buttons.  Rylan wants a commitment from Gage; he wants reassurance that he is the one for Gage without always having someone else involved.   But how does he tell Gage that without losing everything if Gage doesn’t feel the same way? Gage tries his best to get across to Rylan that he does know but Rylan misunderstands his present at first and is angry with Gage.

I really enjoyed this one and not just because of how hot it was.   I enjoyed it because Rylan and Gage really want the same thing but neither of them is very good at getting that point across to the other. I also liked that it was also a fun read with just enough humor to make you want more from these characters.

I have to recommend this one to everyone as it has a bit of conflict, dominance, incredible hot sex and a really good ending. I am now waiting on tender hooks as this author has promised us more from these two guys…yay.
