The Demon In Business Class

by

Anthony Dobranski

She can speak all languages. He can smell evil intent.

They’re enemies. They crave each other.

With secret magic, international settings, a conspiracy plot, and star-crossed lovers, The Demon in Business Class is a stylish modern fantasy spanning continents and genres.

A shady executive hires Zarabeth Battrie to help start the next global war, giving her a demon that speaks all languages. But other people know more about her job than she does…

A resolute investigator recruits Gabriel Archer to use his emerging psychic powers, for a visionary leader who turns others from evil. As his senses develop, his doubts grow…

When the two meet by chance in Scotland, passion becomes fragile love, until the demon’s betrayal drives Gabriel away. Before Zarabeth’s revenge destroys the visionary’s plan, Gabriel must stop her — for both to survive, neither can win.

Warnings: FOR ADULTS! Drugs, fistfights, vigorous sex, murder, an orgy (witnessed), a cult, and a (told not shown) history of child sexual abuse.

Fans of Jeff VanderMeer, David Mitchell and Michel Faber will love this cross-genre novel with crisp literary style. The Demon in Business Class is an international story of fantasy, intrigue, and love, on the uneasy ground where the human meets the divine.

Review: An intriguing story about a newly graduated witch, Vax, who is given a task by goddess Hecate to stop the evil that is going on. But with the task comes danger. As in he may not come out of it alive.

I loved the details surrounding Hecate. She was an interesting character with a strong will.

Vax, even though he is young was determined in his quest. As with the other books in this series I have enjoyed reading about each and every character good and bad. They all add their own elements to an already fascinating series.

Great read.

Review: Action packed adventure. Waring titans, gods and goddesses of my. I loved the action throughout. Eve though there is a romance it is not the main focus. With so many characters playing vital roles I was impressed with how well the story flowed for being somewhat shorter than the previous books.

Apollo has been in love with Odelle forever it seems. Odelle on the other hand has other things to tend to.

I loved the interactions between all the characters as they seemed to draw the reader in more.

Great read.

Review: First let me start off by saying this story takes place in many places, worlds and anywhere else in between. There was no shortage of a fast paced storyline that took me by surprise. I loved the story except for the m/f, male-female parts as I’m an mm reader. With the exception of that one thing the only other thing I found wrong was the lack of in depth information about the MC, Victoria. Which was fine with me.

There are many characters throughout that add their own elements to this book. I loved reading about each and every one of them. The mythology that was in them story was amazing. I love Greek mythology anyway so I was intrigued at the way it all unfolded.

Twists and turns along with mystery drew me into a world that was truly mesmerising to say the least.

Blurb:   Devin visits the Renaissance Faire with one goal in mind: to pickpocket enough money for another cross-country dash. His would-be killer is on his tail again, and he needs to get the hell out of town. Once inside the gates, he finds himself under the scrutiny of Ezra, the handsome bartender. But Devin is on a mission, and while he relieves the costumed masses of their money, he also steals a magical amulet from a seemingly-abandoned jewelry case.

An amulet that happens to be Ezra’s.

Devin’s hunter corners him before he can skip town, but Devin escapes with his life and a nasty bullet wound to one arm. He passes out in his car. When he regains consciousness, he finds himself at the mercy of the man he’d stolen from. A man interested in a lot more than the return of his property…

Review:  Devin is a small time criminal on the run from his former friend who is currently trying to kill him. He visits the local Ren Faire with one goal in mind, to pick pocket enough money to leave town and escape before he winds up dead. Between the homophobe Devin calls out and the sexy bartender whose eyes seem to follow him everywhere, Devin is frazzled and calls it a day. His guard is down and Max catches up with him, but the amulet he stole at the faire disguises and protects him, almost.

Shot, broke and scared, Devin makes his way back to the Ren faire and passes out. He awakes and looks into those eyes, the ones that were boring a hole into him yesterday and following him around the faire. Ezra is not just a bartender, he made the amulet that saved Devin’s life. When Devin attempts to return the amulet Ezra won’t have it, he says the amulet chooses who it belongs to. What Ezra wants from Devin is something far more valuable, he wants his love.

The faire takes Devin in so he’s now protected and he begins an unconventional affair with Ezra. Not thinking the relationship will last, he’ll heal and be on his way, Devin requests no actual sex. But there is more to love than just sex and Ezra takes pleasure in showing Devin just what they are. It made the story more endearing that these two fell in love before they actually went all the way, they had a LOT of fun doing everything but the actual act though, I assure you. Right about the time Devin starts to feel safe at the faire and with Ezra, Max shows up to finish what he started. Will Ezra be able to protect his new lover and take him back to his world when the faire ends? Or will he loose Devin before he’s even completely had him?

The story started out a little disjointed and confusing, like the author was trying too hard to make Devin a likeable character. He was obviously a victim of life and circumstance so the confrontation with the jerk at the faire was drawn out and overkill in my opinion. Once you get past the setup and Devin comes back to the faire the story flows better. What I liked best about this book aside from the steamy sex scenes between the two ML, was the brief glimpses of the magic, amulets and jewelry created and its purpose.

A fun rainy day read, if you can give the story time to get past the start it may well be worth your time.

Blurb:  The City is a cold, sterile place. What lies Outside it?

Raine O’Kelly has a gift. The very power of nature is his to command. When his gift lands him in trouble with the government, Raine find himself thrown into The Prison; one of the most feared punishment for those citizens who wont conform to The City’s ideals.

Abused, scared, and slowly dying of deprivation from the one thing his body truly needs, an accident lands him in the infirmary, which leads him to be given to The Prison’s most feared inmate… The Beast.

When The Beast defends him from the guards, Raine finds himself inexplicably drawn to the misunderstood man. A man with unique abilities of his own, the Beast’s animalistic desires forms a connection between them that cannot be denied. When he learns The Beast comes from Outside the City, is Raine willing to take the chance on escape with the mysterious man?

Escape wont be easy, and there are dangers waiting for them on The Outside, ready to strike at the fragile relationship between the two men. When The Beast’s past come’s to light, will Raine be able to put aside his own fears in order to fight for the life the two of them could have together? Or will he fold under the pressure?

Will he get his happily ever after?

Or will he become just another victim of the Nature of the Beast.

Review:  Amylea Lyn’s first installment in her new Outside the City series, Nature of the Beast, is set in a world where the City is completely under the control of the government that insists nothing exists beyond the City- a claim they can make since the City is covered by a dome, separating it from the Outside.  The government controls and monitors everything, including the ban on plant life within the City.

Raine is an outcast in the City, he has different coloring than most of the citizens, is gay, and has an unheard of ability to communicate with plants.  Feeling his differences keenly, his sense of isolation and loneliness is deep.

Ash was betrayed by somebody he should have been able to trust, and shoved away in the City prison.  Unable to remember much about his past, and stuck in a dank prison cell for years, he has become The Beast- a man-like creature with animalistic characteristics.

The two meet after Raine is imprisoned for his illegal horde of plants, and is thrown to The Beast.  Under unusual and difficult circumstances, Raine and Ash have to work together to escape their captors, seek a new home, find acceptance, and outwit the traitor from Ash’s past.

Told mainly from Raine’s perspective, Ms. Lyn has created a comprehensive world with events that are plausible within that context.  The ups-and-downs that Raine and Ash experience, the secondary characters, and complexities of the City’s society complete this rather interesting story.  While there are unanswered questions (When and why did the City separate from the Outside?  Why and how is Raine so connected to plants?  Whatever happened with the peripheral characters?) I’m rather certain these will be addressed in future books.  Explaining everything in the first book wouldn’t make too much sense, now would it?

Blurb: Immortal sidhe Tuulois MacColewyn is living rough. After nearly two centuries of life as one of Faerie Queen Titania’s prized wolves and a handful of years as a Roaring Twenties mob boss’s favorite enforcer, he’s now exiled to New York, making rent doing dirty jobs for other fey outcasts. He used to consult on the occult for Detective James Corhagen at the NYPD, but since their highly combustible friendship burned itself out a year ago, Cole hasn’t heard from him.

All that changes when Corhagen summons Cole right out of his shower and into the middle of a crime scene.  The NYPD is facing a rash of messy black-magic murders, complete with exploding hearts and very little forensic evidence, not to mention the sinister disappearance of several half-fey children. However hard he tries to deny it—and his inconvenient attraction to the sidhe—Corhagen needs Cole’s help. A persistent police inspector rounds out the team, but when their investigation comes too close to the truth, suddenly it’s their lives on the line. With a powerful killer on the loose, Cole, James, and Inspector Vallimun must race against time to stop the monster out to claim the thirteenth child.

Review: What can I say about this book except LOVED IT.?  Cute Pixies, misunderstood Goblins, a Little Red Riding Hood with a basket full of weapons and a Troll with a cold and those are kinda like the Good guys? The opening scene shows you that this is not your usual paranormal fantasy where humans are sacred and the supernaturals have to take what they dish out. This book has its dark part’s, it’s ‘Oh riggghhhttt’ parts and is humorous most of the way through.

Tuulois ‘Cole’ MacColewyn survives by doing jobs for other supernaturals; he tries to protect those that are like family to him.  James Corhagen is a detective just doing his job and living so far back in the closet that Narnia should ask him to become a citizen.  Inspector Joss Vallimun seems to be a stick in the mud and you don’t really get to know much about him really, but everything may not be as so straight forward as it seems with him.

This book is not a happy ever after. Cole and James don’t go skipping off into the sunset holding hands and James doesn’t realize suddenly that the closet is cold and lonely.  We do find out, however, that there may be another love interest for Cole.

The story is brilliant and slightly twisted it has you trying to figure out what happens next and you’d be wrong.   There aren’t many sex scenes but the story more than makes up for it and we actually get to know the characters pretty well.  When I finished the book I moaned ‘noooo you can’t just stop there’.   So I truly believe this author is pure evil incarnate because I want to read the second book NOW and it’s not published yet.

I really can see this author being a huge hit because the way he has written this you know there will be a series (I’ve heard 13 books) and hopefully a prequel where Cole and James meet. (J.L. O’Faolain if you read this hint hint).

So, I recommend that you all run out and buy this book, if you haven’t already, ‘cuz really, what’s wrong with you all… it’s brilliant.  If you want insta love, tons of sex and romance poring off the pages then this isn’t for you.  If you want a real story line, in-depth characters and the promise of more to come then what are you waiting for, go get it.
