Blurb: An unbreakable curse.

England overrun by monsters.

Two men locked in a losing battle.

England, 1915.

Jonah Valliant longs for active service, but is stuck making coffee for the local officers. A year ago, the world erupted into magical chaos. No one knows why Britain is overrun by fearsome worms, magical creatures whose gaze turns men to stone, or how to stop them. When Jonah loses his temper with Wing Commander Mallory, he has no idea that picking a quarrel with the wizard may lead to Britain’s salvation–or its destruction.

Augustus Mallory carries more than the weight of the war effort on his shoulders. He’s the last of the Mallory wizards, feared for their power, arrogance and the dark family curse. He knows losing his heart to Jonah endangers everything Mallory cares about—but Jonah may possess the key to defeating the worms once and for all. His only hope: staving off his doom long enough to learn the secret behind the Quickening.

Review: I found both Jonah and Mallory adorable in the way they handled their feelings for one another. Jonah for his part was a great asset in determining when worms were near due to his injury. Mallory was unapproachable at times due to the way he acted around others. But when explained the why of it I understood.

The so called curse left me confused. The explanation is that previous family members reacted negatively with rejection. Well that means they can not handle rejection and took matters into their own hands so I did not understand why it was labeled a curse. This is why Mallory stayed away from Jonah at the beginning. I think he let what happened to others influence him into thinking he should be alone forever instead of taking a chance at love.

It was a good read with plenty of action and creatures attacking as well as magic and finding ones self in the process.

Review: This author is new for me and I have to say that she definitely gives you a story that you will remember. First thing that caught my attention was the title, and let’s just say it is quirky enough to have me running to grab it. The cover shows you just how ugly the sweater is, but damn I wouldn’t mind it. This story was so damn funny, I spent most of my time laughing while reading it.

Dan’s is a quirky young man that loves his ugly sweater. It had even cost him boyfriends in the past, but he wasn’t going to give it up. Thank god he doesn’t have to when he finds the one man that loved it just as much as he did. Jake had walked in and saw Dan’s sweater and knew that this was one man he wanted to get to know. After all they are way more than alike then either one thinks.

I had so much fun reading this and look forward to seeing what other stories this author has out. I would like to see what these two are doing somewhere down the in the future. They rocked and I would definitely recommend this story.

Ben is fighting for his afterlife. Trapped in the supernatural version of solitary confinement, he knows freeing himself will destroy New Camden’s fragile peace—but what choice does he have? The longer he spends in his magical prison, the harder it becomes to resist his inner vampire. Review: It has been several months since I read the first book in this series, so it was like a new experience for me.  This particular story is about the two main characters in book one and where they are now that Ben is not a vampire any longer.  When I read the blurb, it said recovering vampire, but in truth he is now human once more.  The characters are a bit off to me, but still pretty sweet.  In this story you find out more about Nate and let’s just say it is one big surprise.

Nate has talked Ben into coming back to his home town with him.  It is supposed to give him a break from what he had known before.  Ben gets to meet Nate’s brother Ethan and their mom.  Now that is one wacky family.  It also explains quite a bit about Nate.  The problem was there was a murder and Ethan is the main suspect.

Now the whole town is just down right creepy.  They are one of the most religious place’s ever and just because someone is off, it makes them evil.  And when there is evil around, you can figure out the type of people living there will react.  Ethan is a lover of plants, and is damn good at growing them.  He is closed off and really weird, but his brother is the exact opposite.  Nate is out going and funny as hell, in a way.  This murder might link back to, well I will let you find out when you read the story.  Let’s just say you are in for a big surprise.

It is a very long winded tale that I have to admit didn’t keep my attention like it should have.  I am afraid that I had to take a break from it for a bit.  It has a lot of description and details in it that just didn’t help me along.  It actually took several chapters before I got interested in finding out what else happens.  Other than that this book was a bigger hit with me then the first one was.  I do like the characters quite a bit and can’t wait to see what this author comes up with for the next book.

Blurb: Nate is caught between two dangerously hot vampires who can compel people to do whatever they want and a ruthless necromancer who wants Nate for all the wrong reasons—and that’s only the start of his problems.

Escort Nate prides himself on two things: his ability to please his clients and his normality – living in the monster capital of the world, ordinary is rare. Hunter, a darkly charming vampire with more charisma than is good for him, decides Nate is just what he needs. Nate’s sympathetic nature and skill in the bedroom are put to the ultimate test. But Hunter wants Nate for someone else – his brother, Ben. Nate is immediately attracted by the control with which Ben holds his sensitive nature in force. Too afraid of becoming a monster to allow himself to feel, Ben struggles to resist Nate’s generosity of emotion. As a vindictive necromancer makes Ben his target of revenge, Nate discovers that making people feel good doesn’t compare to making Ben feel. As Nate’s normal world crumbles around him, and he desperately searches for a way to save Ben, Nate is unable to escape becoming the necromancer’s latest victim.

But Nate’s death is only the beginning. Coming back to life in the bathroom of Gunn, a Department Seven officer who hates the vampire family that Ben and Hunter belong to, Nate doesn’t know who to trust or even what he is. As the necromancer’s trap pulls tighter around himself and Ben, Nate is forced to let go of normal and embrace powers he doesn’t fully understand. In defiance of Ben’s vampire sire and hunted by Department Seven, Nate and Ben finally learn to trust and rely on each other. But when the necromancer succeeds in capturing Ben, Nate alone can come to his rescue.

Review: This story did not turn out at all like I had thought it would. There was more detail to it than I thought was needed and to slow paced for me. For such a long story, I felt like I was drowning in details. I love a good paranormal, but this came off more fantasy then anything. I could not really get into the characters as I should have. It felt a bit off to me.

Nate is an escort and has come to the attention of a very powerful vampire. However the attention was not what caught my eye, it was the fact that Hunter wanted Nate to be a brother. Which is strange in itself. Now Ben had been turned by Hunter about a year ago, and now here is Nate to help them celebrate. Ben comes off a bit, well off. He is cold in a way that one would not expect, but he doesn’t really seem that happy about Nate. Especially since Nate is immune to him. Then you add in a jealous necromancer, and let’s just say it is about to get all interesting to say the least.

I hate to say that I basically had to rush through this and skimmed most of it. It didn’t really catch my attention like it should have. I also did not really care for the sex business at all, which was a downside for me. Although the way this author wrote it was a bit better than most. There really wasn’t any shame or regret shown, so that was a nice change for me.

I enjoyed the mystery that this story seemed to have going on inside of it. One would sit on the edge of their seats trying to figure it out, was a great plus. I loved the fresh new touch to the paranormal and fantasy world that this author has created, plus it was very quirky in away. So it took a few chapters to get to the point that my attention was captured but I am afraid that it just came too late for me. The ritualistic killings were a bit strange, but for this type of story it rocked. It was not written in a dark tone so that was a major hit for me, because I really can’t get into gross deaths.

I am not really sure if I will read the next book, but since this is the first in a new series I will just wait and see. For now I will just say that this book really wasn’t for me.
