Spritzer

(A Sparkling Gay Romance)
by

Jon McDonald

Spritzer Vallier is the manager of a large commercial jug winery in Northern California. The new owner, Spritzer’s great-aunt Del, wants to make a quality champagne as well as the cheap wine that is the bedrock of their business. Being a down-to-earth, no-nonsense guy, Spritzer resists Del’s fantastic idea. However, she insists and hires Michel, a French champagne master, to direct the setup of the new venture for four years until Spritzer can take over the running of the winery by himself.

Spritzer and Michel must work closely together and right from the beginning it is clear there will be fireworks. Michel tends towards arrogance and control. Spritzer resents Michel’s authority and demands, and is a bit of a stubborn hot-head.

Keeping the two in check is Del—steady, caring, and wise, she directs the two toward the accomplishment of her dream.

Storms, accidents, and money problems plague the progress of the new winery, but eventually Michel and Spritzer work their way towards a successful conclusion to their efforts. But fate seems to have another destination for them as well, as they begin to fall in love with each other.

Review: I enjoyed this short story about Dakota and his best friend Leo. Dakota gets hit on his boss every time he sees him. Tired of the way the man is making his friend feel Leo suggests they act like a couple in the hopes it will deter the man’s advances.

It comes down to an intense kiss, sparks flying and a connection neither Dakota nor Leo saw coming. Sweet and cute this short story packs a punch.

Blurb: Politics, puppy dogs, and passion, oh my!

When his Republican opponent outs him with a photo in a Facebook post, Senator Samuel Dalton doesn’t have many options open to him. It doesn’t matter that the photo is totally innocent. He has no choice but to come clean…until his staff suggest putting a spin on it that leaves Sam reeling.

Sure, he’ll end up with a lot of sympathy, not to mention the possibility of more voters from the LGBT community, but it still seems a pretty drastic solution.

Now all they have to do is persuade Gary, the other man in the photo, to play along. It sounds so easy: convince the constituents of North Carolina that he and Sam are engaged.

No big deal, except for the fact that they’ve only just met….

Review: Although I was not entirely familiar with the work of KC Wells before this book, I would say that The Senator’s Secret is a rather cute and fluffy introduction to the author. I love the Dreamspun Desires titles, I love the sloppy romance and the often absurdity of it all. The narration by John Solo was excellent. He is one of my favorite narrators. John Solo brings a lot of heart and emotion to the characters on the page.

This is one of those typical tropes where a relationship is contrived in order to soften the PR blow of a scandal. The scandal itself, is a photo of Senator Samuel Dalton looking intimate (though it was perfectly innocent) with one of his staff members. I’ll be honest, the set up is a tad bit tenuous but if you can get over that you’re in for an enjoyable ride.

The senator in question, Samuel, is a nice guy and totally relatable, for a politician. Likewise, Gary is also a great guy who has a big heart and is really easy to fall in love with as we get to know him through the course of the story. It is quite easy to see why Samuel is quickly finding it hard to remember that their charade as an happily in love engaged couple is just that, a charade.

When he wakes up in the morning, there’s a sexy, strange man in his home and a new, kind of painful tattoo on Casey’s chest. He doesn’t remember what happened the night before, but it doesn’t take him long to realize that the stranger, Ed, is someone he wants to get to know much better.

Now, if the fates and stars and all that mystical stuff will align, Casey and Ed might have their Happily Ever After, with the help of a mysterious tattoo artist and a vanishing tattoo shop.

Reviewer: Shorty

Review: I loved this cute, sweet story of Casey waking up from a night out drinking with friends to discover he has a tattoo and a hot driver named Ed in his home and vague memories of the before. Ed is attracted to Casey from the start. But being the gentleman he is he refuses to take advantage of Casey. Even so Casey wants Ed but Ed explains he wants something more than a one off.

I loved how these two interacted with each other. The slow build up to them finally coming together was awesome, The paranormal aspect was intriguing. A mystic tattoo parlor that seems to come and go and a mysterious man named Gene to boot. I’m sure we’ll learn more about him as the series progresses.

Needless to say I loved the entire book. With plenty of sweet, hot scenes and mystery just had me on the edge of my seat awaiting the outcome. It was truly a wonderful story.

Highly recommended.

While on holiday in Toronto, Evie Whitmore planned to sightsee and meet other asexuals, not audition for a dance competition. Now she’s representing Toronto’s newest queer dance studio, despite never having danced before. Not only does she have to spend hours learning her routine, she has to do it with one of the grumpiest men she’s ever met. Tyler turns out to be more than a dedicated dancer, though—he might be the kind of man who can sweep her off her feet, literally and figuratively.

Tyler Davis has spent the last year recovering from an emotionally abusive relationship. So he doesn’t need to be pushed into a rushed routine for a dumb competition. Ticking major representation boxes for being trans and biracial isn’t why he went into dance. But Evie turns out to be a dream student. In fact, she helps him remember just how good partnering can be, in all senses of the word. Teaching her the routine, however, raises ghosts for him, ones he’s not sure he can handle.

Plans change, and people change with them. Learning a few steps is one thing; learning to trust again is another entirely.

The cat funeral.

Yeah, that happened today. I went and participated in—aided and abetted?—a cat funeral.

London life is tough on idealists. In an ideal world, after years of flirtation, Leo would be cosily settled down with Jack, his long-time crush. In an ideal world, Jack wouldn’t now be engaged to a woman. And in an ideal world, Leo would move on.

When handsome new neighbour Alex moves in opposite Leo, an opportunity to do so presents itself. But Alex is working class, poorer than Leo, and probably straight. While Jack’s engagement unravels, and Leo’s friendship with Alex deepens, will Leo manage to find happiness with the right man? Or will he succumb to his enemies: self-doubt, family expectations, and pride?

Told in diary form, this is both the story of a love triangle in London and the chronicle of a man’s struggles to confront his self-image and overcome his insecurity.

This was a very cute little story that was a lot of fun to read. I love how much humor is in these little stories, and how much story there actually is in them.  I got a kick out of reading this and can guarantee that this will be read many Christmas over.

Review: When I first got this book, I wasn’t really sure about it.  Here you have two guys who have the hots for each other, but they are so different in many ways.  Deke hates the holidays and Dudley loves them.  However it works perfectly with their jobs. You guessed it, Deke plays the grump and Dudley loves the holidays.  However this year there is a bet going on, and the looser has to go on a blind date.  A blind date that the winner picks out.   Wouldn’t be so bad if it was with each other, but you will have to read the story to find out what happens next.

This is a cute and funny little story that will knock your socks off.  I had a blast reading this and wouldn’t mind doing so again.  These two are perfect for each other, however if I was Dudley, I would have kicked Deke’s butt around the corner.  I had a lot of fun reading this and would definitely be checking out the rest of this author’s books out.

Review: Rex is a strange character that is one thing I do know.  He has a sexy boyfriend who he wants to impress, but as a supervillain he is about to bark down a road he has not gone down.  If you want the details then you have got to read the story, trust me you will get a good laugh.

At first I wasn’t really sure about this story, but then I took the theme that the authors of this very strange calendar advent and went with it.  It was a quirky story that was an absolute blast to read.  I spent most of the time laughing my ass off.  For such a short story there is definitely a lot more to bite into.

I got a big kick out of reading it and put it on my all-time Christmas reading list for future holidays.

Charles Payseur

“How the Supervillain Stole Christmas” is a tale of superheroes and villains, which has been something of a passion of mine for a long time. I just can’t help being charmed by the tropes of superheroing, and I love how over-the-top it can be, with giant death lasers and earthquake machines and alien menaces. My main disappointment has always been the lack of representation and, when present, how truly awful a lot of main stream superhero works have been about LGBTQ+ portrayals and storylines. So I decided to start writing my own (hopefully) cute stories that feature characters I could identify with and plots that are just as ridiculous as the best stories to come out of the 60s and 70s. In “How the Supervillain Stole Christmas” Rex Devious is a villain with no luck with relationships. Specifically, he sucks at picking out Christmas gifts. There is no quicker way to scare away a romantic partner than getting them something… inappropriate for Christmas. Like a gun that makes plants sentient. Or a Canadian province. Which is a shame, because Rex just got into a relationship he’s desperate not to screw up and Christmas is just around the corner. Which means, of course, that it’s time to stop Christmas from coming, somehow…

Charles’s Questions!

My question is: Gorillord is a giant, talking gorilla who is also a supervillain (naturally), and he’s mentioned in my latest release, “How the Supervillain Stole Christmas.” In the story we learn that when planning a child’s birthday party, inviting a supervillain as a special guest is rarely a good idea, as Gorillord decides to unionize the household pets into demanding more pets and better food.. But which other of my published stories has featured this ecologically-minded menace?

He sets up the holiday spectacle from hell, and he doesn’t seem to care which holiday—he has a menorah, a baby Jesus, a Santa, and everything in between. Besides, romance is so not a priority for him right now. All his web design prospects have inexplicably evaporated, and to save his fledgling business, he’s been compelled to take a hands-on hardware project—as in, his hands on screwdrivers, soldering irons, and needle-nosed pliers. God. Failure could actually be an option.

Journeyman electrician Alex Henning is ready to leave Gideon twisting in the wind after their run-ins both on and off the construction site. Except, like a fool, he takes pity on the guy and offers to help. Never mind that between coping with his dad’s dementia and clocking all the overtime he can finagle, he has zero room in his life for more complications.

Apparently, an office build-out can lay the foundation for a new relationship. Who knew? But before Alex can trust Gideon with the truth about his fragile family, he has to believe that Gideon’s capable of caring about more than appearances. by

Absence is as crucial as presence.

The decision to stop dating has made Vaughn Hargrave’s life infinitely simpler: he has friends, an excellent wardrobe, and a job in the industry he loves. That’s all he really needs, especially since sex isn’t his forte anyway and no one else seems interested in a purely romantic connection. But when a piece is stolen from his art gallery and insurance investigator Jonah Sondern shows up, Vaughn finds himself struggling with that decision.

Jonah wants his men like his coffee: hot, intense, and daily. But Vaughn seems to be the one gay guy in Toronto who doesn’t do hookups, which is all Jonah can offer. No way can Jonah give Vaughn what he really wants, not when Jonah barely understands what love is.

When another painting goes missing, tension ramps up both on and off the clock. Vaughn and Jonah find themselves grappling not just with stolen art, but with their own differences. Because a guy who wants nothing but romance and a guy who wants nothing but sex will never work—right? Not unless they find a way to fill in the spaces between them.

Last year, Javier Medina was your average socially awkward gay high schooler with a chip on his shoulder. This year, he’s . . . well, pretty much the same, but with bonus superpowers, a costume with an ab window to show off his new goods, and a secret identity as the high-flying, wise-cracking superhero Blue Spark.

But being a Junior Hero means that Javier gets all the responsibility and none of the cool gadgets. It’s hard enough working for the Legion of Liberty and fighting against the evil Organization, all while trying to keep on top of schoolwork and suspicious parents. Add in a hunky boyfriend who’s way out of Javier’s league, and an even hunkier villain who keeps appearing every time said boyfriend mysteriously disappears, and Blue Spark is in for one big dollop of teenage angst. All while engaging in some epic superhero action and, oh yeah, an all-out battle to protect Liberty City from the forces of evil.

Welcome to the 100% true and totally unbiased account of life as a teenage superhero.

Zack never intended to become a phone sex operator, but with half a college degree and a smart mouth, his options were limited. It helps that he has a knack for thinking on his feet and a willingness to roll with whatever his clients throw at him. Sure, he gets his fair share of creeps and unconventional requests, but it pays the bills, and he’s in no danger of breaking his one rule: never fall for a client.

Until a man named “John” starts calling, and Zack finds himself interested in more than a paycheck. It’s not just that John has money, or that his rumbling baritone drives Zack wild. He’s everything Zack isn’t: educated, poised, and in total control of his life.

A twist of fate brings them face-to-face, and now that they’ve seen each other—and spent an unforgettable night together—they can’t go back to the way things were. A sex worker and a trust fund brat . . . It’s like Romeo and Juliet, but with less stabbing and slightly fewer dick jokes. Hopefully they can pull off a more successful ending.

A.J. Llewellyn & D.J. Manly

Montana Delray, a hot, good-looking New Orleans detective, had it made until his captain found him fooling around with his son at the office Christmas party. Even a gold shield and a medal for valor can’t save him from being busted down and transferred to the last place any cop wants to go—the 77th Precinct.

Detective Joe Hunter, nicknamed “Crazy Joe” because he has the sixth sense, flounders in a department where everyone has their “idiosyncrasies.” Then Montana Delray walks through the doors of the 77th and turns psychic Joe’s world upside down.

Blurb: Shiloh Smart is alone and looking for a fresh start. Convinced he’s finished with love forever, he signs a lease at the Belladonna Arms, a tacky, run-down apartment building situated high on a hill in downtown San Diego.

Determined to turn his back on romance, Shiloh works hard at carving out a life for himself where love doesn’t stand a chance and staying single is all that matters.

Then his drag queen landlord’s nephew, Ben Moss, moves in. Thanks to a rumor Ben has heard since childhood of a fifty-year-old crime and a fortune in stolen money, he sets out to find the loot supposedly hidden decades ago in his uncle’s apartment building.

The minute Ben spots a kilted Shiloh toddling off to work at the Scottish restaurant up the street where he waits tables, he falls hard and fast for the aloof young redhead. Even a hidden treasure can’t compete in Ben’s eyes with the beautiful waiter with the fiery copper hair.

But even while he diligently works to break down Shiloh’s defenses, Ben doesn’t give up his quest for buried treasure. Soon, as their friendship deepens, the two young men join forces in a search for the stolen cash.

Review: Each book in The Belladonna Arms collection features a different romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

I wished that there was an apartment complex like this one with people just like the ones that live at the Belladonna Arms. I love the world that this author created almost as much as I love the characters that are in it. I laughed so hard through some parts that I thought I would need mouth to mouth.

John became a favorite author of mine when the first book in this series came out. I never even really thought that I would find a male author could do that. I have always focus on the quirky funny books that many authors write, but when I came across John’s stories I knew he was going to be one of my favorites with the way he spins a tale. My attention was caught from the moment I started reading and kept it all the way to the end.

Shiloh had thought his boyfriend loved him, till his boyfriend’s new boyfriend kicked him out. Thank god Arthur let him rent an apartment in the building he owned. Everyone there was quirky as hell. The rumor was that those who moved in found true love soon after. Too bad Shiloh never wanted to find love again, but damn was he in for a good surprise.

Ben moved to his uncle’s apartment complex for two reasons. One was he was gay and his family other than his uncle Arthur hated anything gay. The second was he had heard that fifty years ago several thousand dollars had been stolen, and the guy who did it died two days afterwards. The money had never been found, yet for some reason he knew it was there. Then he met Shiloh and it would seem that the number one reason for staying was he was falling in love.

I loved this book and the quirky, funny characters in it. I sure hope that the author has plans for many more in this series, because they are a big hit for me. They gave me everything I could ask for in a story. I had so much fun reading it and would definitely recommend it.

Blurb: Barney Teegarden knows what it’s like to be alone. He knows what it’s like to have a romantic heart, yet no love in his life to unleash the romance on. With the help of a friend, he acquires a lease in a seedy apartment building perched high on a hill in downtown San Diego. The Belladonna Arms is not only filled with the quirkiest cast of characters imaginable, it is also famous for sprinkling love dust on even the loneliest of the lovelorn.

At the Arms, Barney finds friendship, acceptance, and an adopted family that lightens his lonely life. Hell, he even finds a cat. But still true love eludes him.

When his drag queen landlord, Arthur, takes it into his head to rescue a homeless former tenant, he enlists Barney’s help. It is Barney who shows this lost soul how to trust again—and in return Barney discovers love for the first time in his life.

It’s funny how even the hardest battles can be fought and won with laughter, hugs, friends, plus a little faith in the goodness of others. All it takes to begin the healing is the simple act of coming back.

I love how even the story has some sadness and a touch of pain; it also has a lot of humor stashed in it. I laughed so hard through some parts that I was waving my arms around and bouncing. It is a good thing no one was looking in the mirror.

John became a favorite author of mine when the first book in this series came out. I never even really thought that I would find a male author could do that. I have always focus on the quirky funny books that many authors write, but when I came across John’s stories I knew he was going to be one of my favorites with the way he spins a tale. My attention was caught from the moment I started reading and kept it all the way to the end, so much that as soon as I finish writing this I am going to go start on the next book in this series.

Barney’s apartment was going condo, and he was strapped for money as it was. So when a friend told him that he could get him an apartment he jumped at it. There is something very magical about the Belladonna Arms and the people that live there. When Arthur, his landlord, wants him to help him find a friend that was in need, Barney agreed to help; he had not expected that friend to be a very sexy young man whose heart had been badly broken.

Ramon and Chichi had been known at the Belladonna Arms as a young couple deeply in love. However there was a darkness instead. When Chichi died, so did Ramon in away. He ran and lived on the streets thinking it was what he deserved, thank god Arthur had it in his head he was going to bring the young man home. Arthur is the fairy godmother in this tale that is for sure.

I loved the subplot with Sylvia and Pete as well. They can definitely hold onto a secret. I felt so bad for what Ramon had gone through before. Then I felt like laughing my ass off at how everyone else felt when Ramon cut their hair. Let’s just say you need to read it to find out. This is probably my favorite out of the whole series and I absolutely loved it. I can’t wait to get to reading the next book. John made another winning story for his readers.

That Darn Muse

(The Misadventures of Doc & Dick 02)
by

Dan Skinner

He’s a middle-aged, newly single, gay photographer starting life over. Along comes a freshly out nineteen-year-old, irreverent free spirit who wants to be his apprentice. Mismatched by more than a generation, what could possibly go wrong? Everything! And it’s AWESOME!

A “Muse” ing: Most authors struggle with the voices or “muses” in their head when writing. Tuning that voice out becomes a little more challenging when your muse is a real-life nineteen-year-old who inhales espresso and turns out ideas at light speed. Danger Will Robinson!

Daddy and The Rent Boy: In selling something, advertising is half the battle. That can become hazardous when you’re in the company of an irreverent walking billboard.
