The Stonebridge Mysteries: Book Three

Living together is bliss for Sam Flynn and Nathan Walker, but things never stay quiet for long in Stonebridge. On the night of Sam’s twenty-ninth birthday, the much-hated mayor of Stonebridge is found dead at his home. Sam suspects foul play, but just as he starts investigating the list of possible culprits, Nathan gets word of a new undercover assignment—one that includes a mysterious, sexy new partner. Though Sam struggles to trust Nathan and control his jealousy during Nathan’s absence, the stress makes a return to the bottle seem not only tempting, but inevitable—especially when Nathan starts avoiding his calls.

Yet Nathan’s fidelity isn’t the only thing on Sam’s mind. A visit from the mayor’s ex-assistant puts Sam in the line of fire, and he’s drawn into a complex web of duplicity spanning back to the night of his parents’ accident. Sam’s journey to uncover the truth about what really happened threatens to unravel long-held beliefs about his parents and puts his relationship with Nathan to the ultimate test.

Review: I can’t say no to revisiting Maggie Kavanagh’s characters from the Stonebridge Mysteries series. If you’ve not read Double Indemnity and Inner Sanctum, you need to go back and read them so that you may understand the overall plot points which pick up here in Blind Spot. To be completely honest, if you haven’t been into these guys from the start this book may be a bit tough to get through.

Once again we are back in the lives of Sam, who is well known locally for his crime blog, and Nathan, who is not only Sam’s boyfriend but also an FBI agent. The guys met back in Double Indemnity and are still together. The question of Nathan’s fidelity mentioned in the blurb is important and though not a major part of the plot, this is definitely one of the times where you need to know the background from the previous books.

We meet a couple new characters, including Nathan’s new work partner. But it was good to see Sam at his usual antics, namely not keeping his nose out of police/FBI business and investigating crimes in an effort to not only serendipitously (at times) help Nathan solve the crime, but also get information for his blog. This book starts on the murder of a new character, the mayor, but soon the pieces come together bringing new information and old information and people from the first two books into play.

A note on the ending, and another reason to read the series from the start, I loved how finally we got the full picture on one character in particular. Those pieces have finally fallen into place. You have no idea how glad I am to have that character’s mystery solved, which consequently ties in with another ongoing plot point. But there still seems to be a lot more for Nathan and Sam if Maggie decides. Sam’s brother, Tim, who has been in a vegetative state at a care facility also gets an ending as well. Things are tied up there and I have to admit that I cried. I loved that too.

Once again, this book is great for anyone who’s into crime, thriller and mystery, particularly for those that have read the first two. However, if you love crime and mystery and need a new series I wholeheartedly recommend this one.

Review: Each book in the Rescue for Hire West collection features a different romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order. To get a better look at them, I would suggest reading Rescue for Hire first. There you will meet the original characters and learn how the west was born.

Cade wanted to expand the business, so he chooses the next spot to be Nevada. He has found the perfect man to run it to. Roman Marshall was the ideal man for the job. Roman had spent time in the military and now he wanted to do something more. So when Cade suggested the idea of rescuing people he jumped at the idea. It got even better when he met Jimmy.

Jimmy had been dating one of the guys on his ranch, only to find him screwing around with his brother. He needed a break and Las Vegas was it. He had not expected to meet Roman. There are many things getting in the way, but things look up for them. That is until Jimmy almost gets kidnapped by a creepy serial rapist. He had not expected to be whisk off his feet by the gorgeous man. Nor did he know what to do. However he sure was going to go with the flow.

I came across Rescue for Hire not too long ago and can honestly say that they are probably one of my favorite series to read. So when I saw that Bellann was writing a new one that was connected I had to jump on it. Rescue for Hire West has definitely been a hit for me. Not only because they have the past military history, so you know that these men are strong, but they also have the heart.

There is always danger mixed into the love story which to me makes for a better story. I also love the fact that once they are on the team the become family and those that they fall in love with automatically become family also. They will protect their family with every bit of power that they have.

This book just grabs your attention from the moment you start reading and keeps it there till you have read every word. Hell my attention is caught by the cover right off the bat. They will also have you laughing at parts of the story.

Review: This book is part of a series and should be read in order.

I enjoyed this book. I liked the two main characters Harley and Nathan. Both were interesting and worked well together. I liked how all the prior charterers keep making appearances, especially Jesse. So it was a likable book because the characters were all good.

However, throughout I felt rushed. Everything happens between Nathan and Harley so damn fast my head spun. There were a few moments of what the hell for me. So although I liked the two men, I just did not like the pacing of the book.

Plus there were issues with some of the storyline that just made it seem a little off. Like with Nathan’s sister and the whole drama there, and what happened at the end with her. I just didn’t see or feel the need for it and it kind of messed up the story for me a bit.

So overall a decent read with a few too many extras thrown in and not enough time with the main characters.

Building Bonds

(Kiss of Leather 01)
by

Morticia Knight

Kyle’s a natural sub who builds dungeon furniture, yet has no interest in BDSM. It takes a hunky Dom to show him just what he’s been missing.

After Kyle’s partner of five years leaves him for another man on the night of their housewarming party, the shy, early-thirties carpenter needs to do a major reassessment of his life in addition to raising some serious cash. With no one to help him pay the lease on his Los Angeles condo, he worries how he’ll survive. His best friend sets up a meeting with one of the Doms and partners at Kiss of Leather, a gay BDSM club being built as a premier destination for those who want the best of the best.

Master Gavin not only wants the best—he demands it. When he meets Kyle, he assumes that part of the builder’s reticence to share anything personal with him must be due to his experiences with an abusive former Master. Not one to back down from a challenge, Gavin determines to break through the walls surrounding the beautiful man he can’t get out of his mind. He’s hopeful that once he convinces Kyle to sign an initial contract, Kyle might be the first sub to open up his heart.

Misunderstandings and accusations almost destroy everything between them before they have a real chance to begin. However, the true obstacle becomes not only whether Kyle will embrace BDSM as a lifestyle, but also whether he can handle a full-time D/s relationship with a big, bad, scary Dom who’s as sexy as hell.

Review: Kyle is shy, reserved and timid. His best friend Marshall keeps telling him he’s a natural Sub, but Kyle has this pre-conceived notion of the BDSM lifestyle that has him adamantly denying Marshall’s claim. He’s quite good with his hands though, and wood (note the double entendre). With Marshall’s help, Kyle lands his dream job as the exclusive designer for the new BDSM club, Kiss of Leather, that is opening in town.

The minute Master Gavin lays eyes on Kyle, he’s pretty much done. It will take a lot of swooning, reassuring and promises to get Kyle to willingly submit to the lifestyle though. If there is one thing Master Gavin is, besides sex on a really tall stick, is patient. He sets his sights on Kyle to become his Sub, neither man realizing that they are about to get far more than they bargained for.

So, I’m constantly turned on to new things that I previously thought I didn’t care for. The softer side of the BDSM lifestyle is apparently one of them. What I enjoyed most about Gavin and Kyle’s story was the communication between them. Gavin is a very patient man, though Kyle tests that patience on occasion. Kyle is curious, very curious, which can be a blessing and a curse. Gavin graciously navigates Kyle through the rocky waters of a Dom/Sub relationship, molding and shaping him into the man he wants. He realizes somewhere along the way that part of the attraction to Kyle is not only his shy, constantly blushing nature. It’s his backbone made of solid wood. Kyle may struggle a lot, but he is not afraid to say no when he means it.

There were a few issues I had with the story, minor details mostly. I didn’t like that Gavin had Kyle call him Master even when he was at work. I thought that should have been a degree of separation between personal and professional lives. And then I had mixed feelings about the ending. Without giving spoilers, let’s just say I wanted a little more than what was there. That being said, I loved the vulnerability that both men expressed at the end.

Regardless, this was a fun read. I devoured it in just a couple hours, unable to set it down once I started. Knight has this definite flair for the BDSM lifestyle and I enjoy the way she writes it. She explains it in a way that conveys love and respect, not just pain and punishment. I’m a bit excited to see whose story will be next. I’d kind of like to see someone put a leash on Marshall; he’s got a mouth on him.
