Blurb:  Can cats and dogs ever get along, let alone fall in love?

Sam knows you can never go home again. As an orphaned feline shifter raised by wolves, being an outcast is nothing new to him. But the pack is still his family, and when one of them passes away, Sam returns to the New Mexico desert to say good-bye.

Gus is a loner who rarely returns to his pack, but as fate would have it, Sam is there when he chooses to visit. The history between Gus and Sam is tumultuous, to say the least, but when Gus gets an eyeful of the grown-up and gorgeous version of his childhood bully, he can’t control his reaction. And he isn’t alone.

The attraction is powerful, but so are their differences. And with trouble brewing in the pack and danger surrounding them, Sam and Gus might not have the opportunity to seek common ground.

Review:  When I first saw this book on the list, I thought the title very quirky and fun.  However I wasn’t paying attention to what kind of book it was going to be.  So when I started reading you can imagine my surprise at some of the words they called each other and the scratching.  So I ran to the site to take a look at the blurb, and from there did the happy dance of the century.

This is a very unique shifter story that was very surprising to say the least.  Where one of the families in the pack loves to take in strays but the pack is a bit full of asshats.  Sam is a cat shifter who is one hell of a dancer and lives in the city because the pack is not really into shifters unlike them during the moon.  He had to be locked into the basement during those times, but now he doesn’t have to be.  He knows that he will never be safe coming home, but when his ma called about pop’s death he came home.

Gus is a wolf shifter and a bit of a loner.  He loves to dig in dirt for some nice gems.  He never really gave Sam the time of day other than to pick on him.  But in his heart he knew that was because he wanted Sam and he knew it would never be allowed.  Then he sees Sam for the first time in a very long time, and damn if the man isn’t hot.  Danger seems to follow Sam everywhere and he has always felt that he would never belong.  It looks to be like Gus might just be willing to help.  If you want to know more then read the book, you won’t be disappointed.

Now I have to admit that I didn’t much care for the pack dynamics or the other cat shifter’s attitudes.  It wasn’t as fun as the title made it seem to be though. Other than those minor problems, this book rocked.  I can’t wait to read the rest of this series.

Review: Just Like Cats and Dogs is the first book in BA Tortuga’s Sanctury series, paranormal/shape shifter romance. Since finding myself a fan of Tortuga’s writing (I’ve discovered that I find it so easy to connect to the story and the characters) I was looking forward to reading the author’s take on the shape shifter genre, because before this I think I’ve only read or listened to contemporary novels in the past. This was a pleasant departure which, for the most part I enjoyed. I found that I had an interesting mix of feelings for the story as well as the narration. Anyone who is into shifter romances will definitely enjoy this story.

So, into the narration. Joe Formichella is a new narrator to me and I was left with mixed feelings. I thought that he lent a good voice and tone to the characters, however, I thought that there was some inflection lacking in the overall presentation of his voice. At times the narration seemed flat. I’m a person who listens to every book at 1.35x speed, so I imagine it would have been a lot more difficult to listen to at normal speed.

The story itself was quite interesting. The MCs are Sam and Gus.

Sam is a feline shifter who was orphaned and then adopted by a mated wolf couple who adopted a number of shifter children to create their eclectic family. The problem with being the only feline in a pack of wolves is that Sam has never been allowed to shifter and run with his brothers and sisters and parents because the alpha does not want the wolves to get out of control and attacked Sam. I understand the sentiment, but it does feel clear from the start that alpha was quite OTT with some of his protections. Gus is a wolf who was born into the pack but he is a loner. His little brother is Sam’s best friend and at most has always thought of Sam as a pest. Gus is the strong and silent type from the start but will do anything to help his family and his pack.

Tragedy brings Sam back to his home pack, knowing that he will only be able to stay for a short period of time because it has been clear to him since he was a child that besides his parents and siblings, he did not belong in the pack. His father has died suddenly and despite being shifters there had been not enough time to help him. When he arrives home, he runs into Gus. The two have always had an uneasy relationship but now that they are both older something has changed between them. Between the emotions and having trouble dealing with the pack he grew up in, he finds he also must deal with the mutual attraction between him and Gus. Their relationship is complicated, pack structure made sure of this and their personality differences merely cemented it.

These guys have a rocky journey and it takes time, which is rather a change of pace from many shifter based stories. They guys need time for their relationship, and their characters to develop, which is totally pleasing. At the end of this audio there is also the bonus novella which is about Sam and Gus in the life they made for themselves, it is also vital set up for the next book. The only thing I need to say, once again associated with the narration, is that it was a little confusing because there didn’t seem to be any pause between the end of the novel and the start of the novella, which had me confused for a few moments. Although this is probably because I didn’t read the blurb properly and see that there was a bonus story at the end.

All in all, this is an enjoyable audio and very enjoyable world we’ve been set in. I can’t wait for the next book.

Review:  Each book in the Sanctuary collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

As a reader I have several favorite authors and stories that I collect.  Although I favor paranormal romances, I will say that R.J. Scott is one of my ultimate favorite contemporary writers of all time.  The story or stories are intriguing and fascinating with the way they are told.  The characters all have their own little way of making you connect with them.  They go from being bold to shy, hard, difficult and sometime pretty strange I would say.  There is an amount of danger in their world that will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat.  The lust also seems to be off the charts sometimes, although in my mind, maybe a bit too eager and fast in some cases.  It doesn’t take away from the story though.

This is the final book in this amazing series, and I have to say that I am not really pleased to see that it is coming to an end.  However it did have a great run.  With this I had to go back and read the previous books to remember each character and their place in the story.  Brandon is a very unique type of guy.  He reminds me of a computer himself sometimes.  He sees the world as numbers and patterns.  Even a pattern on a curtain could drive him crazy.  Brandon and his best friends decided to bring down one of the deadliest men, by going undercover.  It had not worked the way they had thought and now Brandon was the only one left alive.  Sanctuary steps in and keeps him and his sister’s safe, but Brandon has other ideas.

Daniel is going to keep Brandon safe, even if it gets him killed.  More than likely it might want to make him commit murder in the end.  He knows Brandon is not being truthful, but damn he does have a fine ass.  He just has to get Brandon to let him in, because well if you really want to know more, read the book.

There are a bit of quirks to this story that will definitely keep your attention.  I also loved the little twists to it.  The ending really caught my attention, wished I knew what type of snake it was.  I had a lot of fun reading this and can’t wait to see what new stories this amazing author has to come.

I would definitely recommend this book to everyone who loves a bit of suspense, mystery and danger, not to mention sexy men who carry guns.

Review: Each book in the Sanctuary collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

Just like the first book, I looked at the title and new I had to check it out.  Then I read the blurb and new I had to read it.  It has a serious tone to it but it is mixed perfectly with the humorous side to it as well.  There is nothing better than a book with a lot of humor in it, especially if it is about two very sexy shifters.  I love the idea of a cat and dog as mates.

Connor is a blast and funny as hell.  He has this gift that he uses to find things and people that are lost.  There is just something about him that makes you want to grab him up and hug him tight.  He got the call to find someone lost and it leads him to Brock.

Brock is a wolf shifter who goes undercover to break up poaching rings.  Right now the focus is on bears.  At first he finds this bobcat shifter with dread locks who just won’t leave him alone.  Tells him that he must stay with him till he gets him to where he truly belongs.  Connor and the poachers sure do take him on a twisty adventure.

I love the twists that this story has going on.  Connor is a character that I would not have expected.  He looks like a hippy and the way he talks is so damn funny.  Brock is more of a serious guy, but you mix these two up and you are in for one hell of a good time.

I enjoyed reading this book and cannot wait to find out what is in store for them all.

Review: I have yet to read the angel pack series that this series is connected to. But after reading this book I will read them as soon as possible. I loved this story. It was full of misunderstandings and heartbreak as well as love and changing the way someone treats others. Maxi wants to find his mates as well as stay away from the trouble that is following him. He is happy in sanctuary and meets Valor, a fae warrior and Travis, a wolf shifter, who is training to achieve his goal of becoming something more than what everyone else expects.

After a hot encounter between the three Travis and Valor do something that had me shaking my head in disgust. They both rush out the door right after as they’re summoned for a mission. They do not even bother to say goodbye to Maxi or reassure him that he is more to them than a one night stand. Maxi is heartbroken and vows never again.

Really great story with the right amount of anger, love, suspense and I especially loved the way Travis and Valor grovelled to Maxi, and as well they should have. The mystery part of the book was outstanding.

I loved everything. Highly recommended.

Review: Whoo hoo. Its Manny’s book. the one that I have been waiting ages for. Josh needs to know the truth so he leaves Sanctuary to hunt for answers. But, he didn’t count on Manny’s sharp eyes. Manny races to the rescue, before Josh is caught where he shouldn’t be. Manny has a bit of a mysterious past and he has put it far behind him. But, now for his Sanctuary family, he digs it up and revisits the past to try to bring the Bullens down.

Ohhh Manny, what secrets have you been hiding? Josh needs to know the truth. Was his boyfriend just using him? When Manny discovers Josh where he shouldn’t be, he is the closest person to get Josh out before it goes wrong. Manny insists on Josh’s assistance when he discovers the extent of the other man’s computer skills, so when Manny goes in as bait, Josh is his handler. But Josh and Manny have started to become close and Josh is terrified something will go wrong.

I really enjoyed this Sanctuary story, as we really get to know Manny. Finally, after seeing him in so many of the other stories. His interaction with Josh is really good. Although, they do get physical Manny realizes that as the Bullen case heats up he has to put off his wants until a later date. Josh doesn’t really know what to expect, as he is in witness protection and he doesn’t see it ending anytime soon. So, getting involved with Manny will have to be temporary… although, he longs for more. Manny and Josh are really hot together and you can feel for both of them as they struggle to find a way to make it work in the longer term.

The storyline for this was a bit tenser, as everyone is digging as deep as they can to get concrete evidence on the Bullens. Beautifully done, such a twist right at the end, and the Bullen brothers no longer have financial backing. Ha. serves them right. We also get a brief glimpse of Sean (FBI mole) and that leaves us with something to chew on for the future.

So I highly recommend this if you like intrigue, a touch of action, adrenalin rushes, some really hot sex, guns, computers and a happy ending. (Make sure you keep an eye out for Jake’s and Sean’s story around November time.)

Review: Adam has no choice, but to work closely with a Fed.  A Fed that he used to work with.  A Fed that he called a friend.  A Fed that was his lover, but now is only his biggest regret. Lee needs to know why Adam betrayed them. Why he threw away what they had and why he would never say why. Together working on finding the leak, the truth comes out and they both know it isn’t finished.

This is another great addition to the Sanctuary series. Adam is told to work with the Feds, but he is far from happy to learn which Fed it is; Lee Myers, his ex. Lee uses the assignment to get the answers that he has always wanted, but they are far from the answers that he expected. Now both men must work together to protect the innocent and to lure out the FBI leak. All the while striking sparks off each other with their attraction.

Adam and Lee make a great couple.  Two souls ripped apart by deceit, but now reunited as they struggle to find evidence against the Bullens. These characters are opposites, not just in appearance but in personality, too.  and they strike sparks off each other from their first scene together, which had a passionate clash. I loved the way that these two men fell back into the easy work camaraderie, even while they hadn’t sorted out their differences.  And Adam’s absolute trust in Lee was breath-taking, but Lee’s lack of trust made him look a bit petty.  Although, we would all have had doubts, if we had been shown the evidence and no defense was forthcoming.

I loved the way this story went and the tricky twists.  Although, it got me wondering if both Lee and Adam hadn’t been set up in the first place by the FBI leak. We see characters from the previous books and a new one is added, (who is in the next book with Manny :-)). and evidence comes to light that just might stop the Bullens once and for all. The relationship between Adam and Lee was bound to be rocky with their history, but other that getting answers and confessing what really happened, there wasn’t too much angst and it was pretty smooth sailing.

R.J. Scott has provided us with a wonderful story of lovers torn apart by betrayal, a bit of action, a bit of danger, some passionate sex, twists and a really well written storyline that flows smoothly. So, really I have to recommend that you give it a read.

Review: Beckett is in grave danger, after finding out that he was adopted and that his own mother died he goes to his biological father to carry out the instructions in the letter left to him by his mother but now he is beaten, temporarily blinded and stuck in a safe house with a man he doesn’t even know. Kayden is frustrated to be stuck in the middle of nowhere when he could be out on assignment doing something, but then Beckett wakes up and things just might get interesting.

A great continuation of the Sanctuary series.  This book starting where the last book finished so I have to advise that you read the series in order. Beckett is searching for something that his mother left behind in her favorite room in the Bullen household when he is caught by his uncle.  He gets rescued by Sanctuary, but his recovery is not easy. Kayden is a slight enigma, because even though we find out a lot about his background and his skills I still felt like there was more to discover about him. Beckett is quite straight forward, as all he wants is to find what his mother had hidden and get the truth over his friend’s death, get justice and then get as far away from his father and uncles as possible.

So the story is well written, the emotions that they all go through are well portrayed and the relationship is off to a good beginning, so thumbs up R.J. We have a good feel for the mystery, suspense and the twist and we get to enjoy a bit of angst from Beckett until Kayden shares his past with him. I can understand Beckett’s frustration over not being able to do what he wanted when he wanted and Kayden’s slight humor at thwarting him. The two men do have an attraction to each other and a budding relationship is in the works, the sex is extremely low-key there’s some kissing and right at the end we get the very beginning of some foreplay… so I warn you now you might wish violence on the author for her abrupt ending. *Grrr*

I liked all the secondary characters (except the Bullens) even the FBI guy (although I felt perverse pleasure at his frustration) and I felt so sorry for poor Austin (the family lawyer), we get to see Manny again and we meet Adam who is also with Sanctuary. So how many more stories can we look forward to? *Squee*

A great addition to the Sanctuary series so I recommend this to those who love mystery, suspense, a bit of action, some danger, a budding attraction/relationship and two stubborn men who strike sparks off each other.
