Blurb: A marriage to his people’s worst enemy is only the start of Rick’s troubles. Ancient magic rears its ugly head, and his promise to Aidan, to find the third Watchtower, puts him right in the middle of an oncoming storm.

Waking up collared to his enemy isn’t the worst thing that happened to Rick–waking up to an impending forced marriage is. Yet, he can’t deny that underneath the anger he is attracted to Tom, King of bloody everything and enemy to Rick’s people.

Tom’s bumbling efforts to get closer to him, his puppy dog eyes, and surprising honesty are slowly winning Rick over. But travelling to the cursed land where no one outside Tom’s clan has set foot in centuries is only the start of their adventure.

Betrayal from within and his investigation into the ancient magic of the Watchtowers make Rick’s life more than interesting. But even he can’t anticipate where his search will lead him.

Review: This book is part of a series and must be read in order. Rick (Prince Alric) is confused to wake up in the bed of his enemy, collared and told he is about to wed. All he had wanted was to find the information on the Watchtowers for his friends, and now he is about to wed and facing certain death. But, the secrets of Tom’s clan lead Rick to answers, now if only he can survive betrayals and his own husband’s well-meaning fumbling’s.

This book picks up just after Rick leaves Aidan and James in Over the Moon and is an excellent addition to the Watchtower Series. Rick wakes up confused and befuddled in the hands of his enemy, who for some strange reason thinks Rick should be happy that they are to wed. Rick has more important things to worry about as the collar drains his life force and he knows he has an important task that now might fail, the Watchtowers. But, as Tom learns about a betrayal and sweeps Rick away to his people’s land Muria, Rick and Tom along with Tom’s uncle Darren make new discoveries.

This is a wonderfully written book that opens up the world and adds to the world building of the previous books. We met Rick briefly in Over the Moon and in this one he makes the story his own. We find out why King Tom of Allin is so hell-bent on getting his hands on Rick. We discover more about the Watchtowers and the next puzzle piece and we discover secrets about Tom. Rick and Tom make for a conflicted couple and there are some clashes between them, but they also come to a better understanding when they finally sit down and talk properly and they are honest on both sides.

Tom is not quite the character that you pictured him to be in the last book. Once you understand his story, you can totally get his actions and you wonder how Rick never saw it. Rick finally admits to himself that, although Tom got on his nerves, he’s also sexy as hell. They don’t go jumping into bed and it is hot when they do finally get the chance. We also get to briefly see Aiden and James, along with Belze, and discover that the next books will have hard decisions to make.

So, I will recommend this to those who love fantasy, hidden secrets, obsessed Kings, betrayal, new discoveries, more puzzle pieces, hot sex and a great ending with the sure knowledge of more great stories to come.

Review: Things begin to fall apart for Asher when his brother is put in the hospital…again. Finding out how much his brother’s gambling debts are nearly knock him off his feet. His immediate boss, at his new job, is out to get him and he has a heavy case of lust at first sight for the gorgeous blue-eyed stranger, who he later discovers is Max Tyler, owner of the club he works. Asher is dragged into a plot to get rid of Tyler, but what will Asher do when his brother’s life is in danger and so is that of Tyler? Just who is the most important person to Asher and how can he get out of the mess he has fallen into?

This is a well written story that has a lot of action and danger to keep you on your toes. Asher gets dragged into something he has no clue about when his brother runs up gambling debts that he just can’t pay. When Asher meets Tyler, he is swept off his feet, but later finds out that Tyler is the target and that his brother’s life is in danger. Asher has no clue where to turn and to make it worse; Neil (his immediate boss) is making his life miserable and has very evil intentions. Tyler spotted the sexy Asher on Asher’s first night at work and he wants him, and what Tyler wants he gets. But, a lot of things seem to be leading to Asher, Tyler needs to learn the truth, but that doesn’t mean he can stay away from the sexy Asher.

You know, I enjoyed this storyline and the various characters made it interesting. Although, I am still not sure about Asher, half the time he seemed like he had a backbone and a spine of steel, but then he’d get around Tyler and act like he didn’t have a brain anymore and would turn to mush. Tyler was a real alpha male. People would fall over themselves to give him what he wants and his enemies want him dead. Tyler is a very powerful character and he works really well in this book. He and Asher are great together, but I still have a hard time understanding Asher’s reaction to him, it just seemed overboard.

The action is quite fast paced and Asher does manage to attract danger, there is a near rape scene and also a dubious consent scene (which was really hot) and Asher really needs to get his mind and body in sync. Neil is the perfect ex who has gone off his rocker and carries it out brilliantly. He really was nuts. I really wanted Asher to confront his brother over the trouble he landed them in, but it didn’t happen.

I will recommend this to those who love strong alpha males, a submissive who tries to fight what he really wants, danger, action, hot sex, and a happy ending for these two men.

Blurb: The worst job could become one worth killing for.

JJ is a twenty-eight-year-old male whose resume consists of IT consultant, prostitute, and–most recently–assassin. After an uncomfortable encounter with a client results in the death of a secret agent, JJ finds himself taking the agent’s place at ORKA, the Organization for the Recruitment of Killers and Assassins. JJ has done plenty of things to plenty of people, but he never thought he’d kill one. Still, he’s not one to pass up a job, and working with some of Atlanta’s top assassins could be the chance of a lifetime. Could the promise of wealth and power be enough to stir the demon inside, or is JJ just one failed mission away from being replaced himself?

Warning: This is not a romance.

Review: JJ (Jabul Janek) is drawn into the world of assassins, when he accidentally kills one when he is leaving his last prostitution client. He is dragged into ORKA, the Organization for the Recruitment of Killers and Assassins to replace the one he killed and now he has choices to make.

This is quite an interesting story, of how a man who is in a profession he hates gets dragged into another profession that just might kill him. JJ is bi-sexual and has used that to his advantage when he falls on hard times. He has used prostitution as a means to an end, now though he is given a new opportunity when he accidentally kills an assassin. With a huge pot at the end of a mission, he thinks he just might be able to do what it takes, but first he has to survive.

This story is basic in what it provides, a short summary of how JJ becomes an assassin and leaves prostitution behind him. It also shows briefly how JJ feels about how women react to him being bi-sexual. There is no sex, no steamy scenes and no romance; it is just a very brief account of a time in JJ’s life when he has a choice to make. We have a scene where JJ is with a client, but no details, other than him using his hands, vaguely. I thought he could have been a masseur.

So this is a cool book to read if you are into assassins, secret organizations, and a slightly obnoxious MC’s (his code name is The Jerk) and an ending that makes us wonder if we will be seeing JJ again.

Blurb: To love is to heal…

The Cursed Ones. As the sheltered youngest son of a healer, Eiland of Summerton has heard of them all his life, the miserable creatures who share the great sickness brought down by the wrath of the gods. Yet unlike any of the illnesses Eiland’s father treats in the village, this one is not passed by touch or cough or poison. It’s given by the Cursed Ones. All it takes is three small words: I curse you.

It never occurred to Eiland that a Cursed One could be young. Or handsome. Until he meets Charon, a wandering outcast who bears the Curse. One stolen kiss changes everything for Eiland and sends the two young men on a dangerous journey that neither can hope to survive–unless they set aside their differences and give in to forbidden love…

Review: Eiland is a sheltered 17-year-old. He has never seen outside of his village and has only heard stories of the outside world. When he comes across another boy in the orchard, a stranger, he never realized that his life was going to change forever. Charon is a Cursed One. He is only sixteen. He has come in search of a healer who could help him. When he comes across Eiland, he is drawn to him, but he is Cursed and he can’t get his hopes up. But, Eiland knows much about healing, and Charon takes him on a journey that teaches them both the world.

This is a great YA story that takes two young adults on a journey that neither will forget. Eiland doesn’t realize that the boy he meets in the orchard is a Cursed One and treats him like he would anyone else. This bit of kindness will change his life forever. When Charon wants Eiland to come with him to show him how to make the salve that will help him, Eiland knows he doesn’t really have a choice. What a Cursed One wants a Cursed One gets. On the journey, Eiland realizes a lot about people, himself and the way of the world.  He sees, also, first-hand what a Cursed One goes through, and he begins to understand why Charon is the way he is and does the things he does.

I enjoyed this story. it didn’t just take us to a new world, it showed us the world and the people in it from the unique eyes of a young man who had always saw his world only one way. This story is all from Eiland’s POV, so you get a large selection of emotions that he goes through on his journey, fear, anger, sympathy, hope, happiness, loneliness and understanding. Charon, your heart will break for, he lives with The Curse every day and his story is a very sad one, being cursed at a young age for a simple mistake.

I must admit to wanting to know more about The Curse. Although we are given a vague idea about it, you don’t get a real understanding about it. It leaves you with many questions about it. This story is really well written and flows well. Eiland and Charon are two very interesting characters and although they do exchange kisses that is about the extent of the romance, although Charon is very interested Eiland is unsure. I don’t know what Timshel means or why the book is called that, it is never mentioned once and I would love to know where the title came from.

I will recommend this to those who love fantasy, Young Adult, unsure feelings, being torn with what you want and two young men who have a difficult time of it.

Blurb: The most important things in Simon Murray’s life are football, friends, and film—in that order. His friends despair of him ever meeting someone, but despite his loneliness, Simon is cautious about looking for more. Then his best friends drag him to a party, where he barges into a football conversation and ends up defending the honor of star forward Declan Tyler—unaware that the athlete is present. In that first awkward meeting, neither man has any idea they will change each other’s lives forever.

Like his entire family, Simon revels in living in Melbourne, the home of Australian Rules football and Mecca for serious fans. There, players are treated like gods—until they do something to fall out of public favor. This year, the public is taking Declan to task for suffering injuries outside his control, so Simon’s support is a bright spot.

But as Simon and Declan fumble toward a relationship, keeping Declan’s homosexuality a secret from well-meaning friends and an increasingly suspicious media becomes difficult. Nothing can stay hidden forever. Soon Declan will have to choose between the career he loves and the man he wants, and Simon has never been known to make things easy—for himself or for others.

Review: This is Simon’s story.  A story of how he managed to not only fall for a god, but also how that god fell for him; how they learned to be in a relationship facing the good times and the bad.

Simon is a football fan, a deeply caring friend and the man responsible of the triple F film festival. In addition, he is a man who hides all his feeling behind snarky comments and cocky attitude. Although he’s been out and proud for many years, Simon never really had a relationship, and that is something that is eating his soul. He misses that feeling he sees in his best friend’s eyes whenever he is with his wife. Despite the fact that loneliness is suffocating him, he still resists his friend’s attempts to take him with him on parties and social events. It is one such night, at one such party that Simon meets Declan, a known “god” in the football industry, while passionately defending him.

It seems surreal that Declan is attracted to Simon. How can he possibly want Simon, when Declan could have anyone at all? These little insecurities along with Declan’s need to hide his sexuality and keep their relationship hidden will come often to be thorns in between them. How can you hide something this major when one of you is a celebrity constantly on the eye of the paparazzi? After all, we all know, nothing remains hidden for long and when the bubble blows the pair will have to show a strong front to absorb the damage.

I loved this book a lot. Simon’s personality is one I found very charming.  I love the snarky guy that deep inside is just as scared as all of us, trying hard to make it through his emotions. I felt for him and the fact that his insecurities made him react in ways that made things even worse, helped even more. His fears, desires and passion are something I could well relate to. I also liked the fact that this story is narrated only by Simon’s point of view. That brought me even closer to him and when all his actions seemed unjustifiable to everybody else I had the inside glimpse to keep me on “Simon’s” side. It also made for a very good suspense during the break up times he and Declan had.

Speaking of, Declan was also a very likable character. His entire life as a celebrity and a role-model was brilliantly written. His fears realistic enough to make me want to shelter him from harm. His one obnoxious flaw had me pissed more than once, yet it was that one flaw that humanized him even more in my eyes. For me, Declan and Simon were perfect for each other and as soon as they learned how to be together, it was almost magic.

All in all, this was a very well written book, a romance on the sports field, and even if I have never seen or heard of Australian football I had a fun time reading it. The romance was absolutely fantastic, with all the highs and lows and the intensity to make you hold your breath at times. I missed the sexual action a bit, it would be nice if there was any, but hey, apparently we can’t have it all 😉 I recommend this one for anyone interested in a very realistic approach of the fan/celebrity fantasy.

Review:  This book had a little of everything,  M/M romance, wicked Fae, alternate worlds, magic and druids, time travel and a history lesson.

Sean O’Hare has horrible nightmares about being tortured. Are the things he’s living through in his dreams something that happened in a past life or has he been cursed? Either way he’s taken all the pills recommended by multiple therapists but nothing is taking away the nightmares. He wakes up injured and feels he may slowly be losing his mind. Desperate and willing to try anything he finds an online advertisement for a Druid in Ireland whom may be able to help.  Problem is the Druid doesn’t want to help him. Sean decides to fly to Ireland and plead his case.  Cormac Kelly is from generations of druids and takes his duty seriously but has preconceived ideas of Americans with Irish ancestry and why they’d be coming to him for help.  He calls them plastic paddies, which is exactly what he thinks Sean from America is when he shows up on his doorstep.  Sean tries to explain what’s happening to him and begs for help but Cormac is bitter and sees something from his past in Sean’s possession. Even so his temper gets the better of him and he manages to make Sean mad enough to leave.

Since Cormac was no help Sean goes with his back-up plan and manages to draw the attention of the King of the Fae, who likes to keep lovely or talented humans to use for his pleasure.   I can tell you Cormac does save him this time and thus realizes Sean and his situation is real. So the guys start their working relationship to save Sean.

I did enjoy this book. I liked all the pieces but sometimes the romance and adventure didn’t mesh well for me.  Sean and Cormac as a couple were sexy and sweet but sadly I didn’t fall in love with them.

The book had multiple endings and could have easily been more than one book. Just when you think it’s over. They go back for more! Kind of made crazy and I’d put the book down to take a break.

Tons of research had to go into this and I felt like I should have done some too. Not a bad thing but be warned. I just accepted I didn’t know who they were referring to and just kept reading. Worked for me J Most of the imagery was beautiful and I love being able to picture what the author is describing.

Cormac’s family was adorable and quirky. I’d love to be invited to a get together. I had a big WTF moment somewhere in the middle. I was so confused I had to reread and phone a friend. Well, ask her on FB, but you get the point.  It came out of nowhere for her, too.

The ending was nice, but was drawn out. I guess it worked for me because even though it wasn’t what I wanted, both men had to reconcile their pasts before they could work out a present life together.  I’d recommend this book but be patient and know that it’s more adventure than your normal m/m romance.

Review:  Sam has recently found himself alone and on the streets after coming out to his family, He has one friend, Frankie that helped him when he first started selling his body to just eat and get shelter. Sam is a young pretty boy barely 18. Frankie is a bit bigger and though he sells himself also he is more into control of his life than Sam. He finds himself watching out for Sam, and inevitably falling in love with him.

This is a very heartfelt story of two young men doing what they have to just to survive.  Both want more. They want out of the life, and they want each other. Both characters are well done and very easy to relate to. Sam is too trusting and also too loose with his body, whereas Frankie is a more Dominate confident man. The two characters complement each other so well and fit together like jigsaw puzzle pieces. This is a beautiful romance as the two men find their way into each other’s bed and hearts.

I recommend this to anyone that likes rentboys, D/s, sweet romance, friends to lovers, and very hot mansex.

Review: Ricky loves his best friend Jez, but has never had the courage to do anything about it. He thinks he is just an airhead who doesn’t deserve someone like Jez. Luckily, his Guardian Angel Madred thinks differently. But, first Madred has to make Ricky believe in angels, before he can make him believe in himself.

This is a very cute little short that had me giggling. Ricky pines for his friend Jez, but doesn’t think he is good enough. Madred is Ricky’s fifth guardian angel, yes that’s right fifth, Ricky doesn’t believe in angels so divine intervention is a little tricky. Madred and Ricky go head to head as Madred tries to get Ricky to take a chance at happiness, if only he would put his heart out there to Jez.

Ah, this is such a sweet short about taking chances; Ricky has been gently nudged quite a few times to put his heart out there to Jez. But, he always thinks of something that always holds him back. This time Heaven means business and Madred is given the task of convincing him. Loved it, the storyline was great, but we didn’t get to know the characters, except that Ricky is extremely stubborn, it was a shame but for a short story it was great.

I recommend this to those who love angel intervention, conflicted men, a sweet short story and a happy ending.

Lee’s shock and confusion at discovering this stranger is Roman, older and confused by his long absence, is fast tempered by relief and joy. Review: Lee and Roman started their relationship at 15, but it ended in tragedy when Lee ended up in the hospital with no memory and Roman disappeared and is presumed dead. But, in the ten years since, Lee has never given up hope that Roman is still alive. When Lee comes across a man wandering down the road in just shorts and t-shirt in the snow he takes pity on him… and discovers it is Roman, wearing the same clothes as the day he disappeared. Can Lee discover what happened that night ten years ago and find out where Roman has been or will the truth be too much to cope with.

This story packs a punch for being a novella; it is a complete story that leads you along one step at a time. Guiding you to use your imagination and then smacking you in the face with the truth, brilliantly done, absolutely perfect. Lee has missed Roman for everyday of the ten years that he has been missing, always hoping for some clue as to what happened to him, always hoping that he really is still alive, keeping Roman in his heart for always. The day he comes across a man walking down the road in unsuitable clothes he decides to help him, but is amazed when he realizes that it is his Roman. But, there are some differences and although he wants to know everything. Roman tells him he has to remember that night. Roman has been through his own type of hell and the only way to release Lee from his is to get him to let go of the past and move on. But, Lee is more stubborn than he remembered and just might be able to help him.

I loved this story, it was beautifully crafted and the twist is one that I never saw coming, there were many things running through my head as to what might have happened and where Roman had been, but I never even touched on the true one. I loved the way that the author showed us Lee and Roman when they were young and the beginning of their romance, the support they gave each other even at such a young age and finally what really happened that fateful night. I really can’t say anything more without giving something away, and you will want to discover how wonderful and slightly spooky this book is for yourself.

So I am recommending this to those who love the supernatural, true love, enduring love, twists and a truly wonderful story.

Review:  This short novella had me almost to the point of squealing. Yeah, it wasn’t pretty to listen to, but jeez was I deliciously giddy on the inside. I just couldn’t help it; I was so freaking excited to read another Harper Fox story.

And I was NOT disappointed. There are hit-and-miss authors out there, but I’m getting solid ‘Wows’ with each story of hers I try.

Okay, so for this review, I want to state that, despite giddy squealing, I was a little anxious as to how this story would play out as the two main characters (and love interests) are already together at the start of the story. I wondered then how Mrs. Harper would keep the tension and suspense.

She was clever. (Of course—I’ve come to expect nothing less). While Mitch and Owen are together physically at the start of the book, Mitch is far and away from being emotionally attached as he is still hung up on his ex, who betrayed him, not only by leaving him, but stealing his research as well.

Very quickly, the author shows us the obstacles between Mitch and Owen and their HEA, with Owen quickly drawing away from Mitch. This gives the story a separation-reunion theme that resonates deep. I longed for Mitch to recognize the intimacy he had with Owen, to see what a beautiful person he was. That longing drove the tension and suspense, and it was wonderful.

This story had something else going for it that I really liked—a touch of the mystical. That might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I found just a hint of the paranormal/magical in this story to give it a little something special, an extra dimension to the story, if you will. And to me it made the climax just right, tying in the relationship developments and the setting, where Mitch is trying to prove his archeological theory and find the ‘saints’ before his ex does.

Short, emotional read. Loved it. Recommend.

Review: Dane is lost in dread, after his partner’s death. Not only is he alone and hurt, but he’s confused by new revelations of his partner’s life. Secrets he kept from Dane, that Dane is incapable to process; secrets that had him thinking the man he spent 6 years with was a complete stranger. In this emotional state, his sister makes a stand for Dane to go back in Vermont to cope with the situation among family. Vermont, the place that Dane gladly ran from when his first love broke his heart, the last place he wants to be. Yet, he goes nonetheless.

The shock and surprise to see Theo the first moment his steps into his home-town is nothing in front of the fact that Theo wants to reacquaint with him, and if possible to have a second chance with him. His past memories and new scars that his late partner left him with make it hard for Dane to trust and let go. Theo is more than he’d want, if only he could dare and let himself trust him a second time.

I really liked this book. Perhaps I found Dane a bit assuming to the point of getting me screaming on my pc and yelling at him that he’s overreacting (yes, I tend to talk to the characters while I read a book) at the beginning.  But, I liked him…a lot. He was a very sweet character and at some point I was only wishing that he’d give Theo a second chance. And Theo, OMG, what a man. His patience and strength was lovely. The two of them were a very good pairing and their sexual encounters too sexy.

I loved the plot too; it gave the story some spice. Dane’s family and their behavior made a good point, giving Dane some reasons behind his reluctance to go back to his home town and made for the perfect circumstances for Theo to claim Dane back by way of supporting him, standing by his side and providing him the time and place so he could cope with his partner’s death and secrets.

This was a very nice written story, easy to read and enjoy despite the drama at the beginning. A light romance you could describe it and if you’re into romance I recommend you read this one.

Blurb: Tomas and Cathal have escaped from Naearu, Cathal’s mystical homeworld, but happily ever after is never as straightforward in real life as it is in books. Then again, most people don’t deal with the complication of a lover who’s magically bound to a tree or have an interfering cat for a cousin.

With Naearu’s police force, the Falcons, still after Cathal, he can’t go home. Now that he and Tomas have consummated their relationship, Cathal’s abilities are evolving and changing to the point that Tomas can sense them. And until the oak portal closes, Cathal—and his new life with Tomas—are in limbo, as Cathal can’t expect Tomas to stay with someone who can never venture past the property line. Will he and Tomas ever get to follow through on their engagement?

Review: This story is part of a series and must be read in order. Tomas and Cathal are together and as happy as they can be with the portal still open and their enemies still after them. Cathal also has the problem of the tether that is tying him to the oak tree, because with the portal still open he is still held by the spell. Tomas also has things to deal with as now he is starting to feel Cathal’s emotions, his sister is coming to visit, he still dislikes Christian and they are dealing with the emotional fallout from Christian’s family.

Cathal and Tomas have a lot of emotional fall out in this book as does Will, Christian, Wynne and Mikey. Cathal and Will have to deal with the ramifications of finally being free, but facing never being able to return home again, while Christian is facing losing the love of his life and missing out on all the years of his sons’ life. Wynne and Mikey are dealing with Christian finally being back and Mikey receives distressing news from Edward (Mikey’s dad) and that is just the tip of the iceberg for them all. Tomas and Cathal struggle slightly when Cathal’s abilities become stronger and start to affect Tomas, and they all worry about the portal and how long before the enchantment is broken and what will happen when the enchantment is broken.

I found this to be a relaxing read; it flowed well and quite easily. There are references to what happened in the previous book, but in this book it is mainly about the, what if’s and what now’s, what are they going to do if Deryn sends the Falcon’s after them? What are they going to do if the portal never close’s? What are they going to do if it does close? There’s a lot of emotional turmoil for everyone and emotional conflict, with tempers being raised and depression lingering for some. Tomas and Cathal have some working out to do as they become closer as a couple. Cathal is used to keeping secrets and Tomas being self-centered, both of them are learning that there is someone else they have to think about and trust.

I will recommend this to those who love contemporary fantasy, sweet loving, two men settling into a relationship, emotional conflict and finally for Cathal and Tomas a very happy ever after.

Bryan Kosic

Blurb: Cobra Killer presses the “play” button to uncover the real world of online pornography–an industry that generates billions in revenue daily and makes ordinary people overnight-stars and millionaires.

For the first time authors Peter A. Conway and Andrew E. Stoner tell in full detail the twisted story of a pair of young, aspiring gay adult film producers whose quest for fame at any cost leads to the gruesome murder of the man who stands in their way, gay porn entrepreneur Bryan Kocis. News of the killing of the 44-year-old (stabbed 28 times, his throat slashed to near decapitation) in his suburban home sends shock waves through the bucolic Pennsylvania town. Neighbors are horrified to hear about the murder but equally astonished to learn that Kocis ran a small but thriving online porn operation from his home, sometimes employing underage young men as models.

The murder investigation leads police and prosecutors to the far reaches of the country, from Virginia to New York City, to Las Vegas, and to a nude beach in San Diego where investigators facilitate an incredible clandestine suspect surveillance. The manhunt nets a former U.S. Navy veteran and a former Marine, turned male models, turned hustlers, turned porn producers, who ultimately land at the bottom of a delusional conspiracy. 26-year-old Harlow Cuadra and his 35-year-old partner and lover Joseph Kerekes are implicated and eventually convicted in the brutal January 2007 murder of Kocis. Their motive? An ill-conceived attempt to lure a rising gay porn star named Brent Corrigan away from the grips of Kocis and into their crumbling, self-built porn empire.

Cobra Killer takes readers into the sometimes alluring, sometimes dangerous and often surprising world of gay porn and the deceit, schemes, and ultimate betrayals lying underneath the fantasy. (via Goodreads)

Brent Corrigan/Sean Paul Lockhart

Review: Most people with knowledge of gay porn recognize the name Brent Corrigan, or his other alias Fox Ryder, or his real name, Sean Paul Lockhart. For the sake of clarity, he is referred to by his real name for the duration of the review, as are all other persons with aliases.

Cobra Killer opens in early 2007, with Bryan Kocis on a plane to Pennsylvania, home to his booming gay pornography company. He had just come to a settlement with the problems surrounding Corrigan’s underage appearance in Cobra gay pornographic films. Within five days, his body was found in tiny Dallas Township, Pennsylvania, nearly beheaded, stabbed 28 times in the chest and stomach, and his body set afire. Harlow with Corrigan

The authors appear to have done ample research (more about referencing later), and provide detailed accounting of the investigation into Kocis’ murder. They note how the police were able to determine suspects within days by reviewing Kocis’ email, having found emails about setting up a meeting sent from one ‘Danny Moilin’. Further investigation revealed Danny Moilin to be Harlow Raymond Cuadra, and photographs online showed Cuadra posing with Lockhart, drawing another connection to Cobra Video. Further connections were drawn to Cuadra’s life and business partner, Joseph Manuel Kerekes. Meanwhile, Cuadra was indulging the media about the apparent relationship between himself and Kocis, but refused to speak with police.

About this time, investigation showed that months before Lockhart had expressed his desire to be rid of Kocis, as he felt Kocis had ‘ruined his life’ (page 12). Police also discovered the recently settled lawsuit relating to Corrigan’s underage appearance in porn. The investigation quickly cleared Lockhart and his boyfriend, Grant Roy from having any part in Kocis’ death.

Several chapters are devoted to Kocis’ life, which gives a good background into who he was, at least according to those around him. This also includes insight into the formation of Cobra Video and why he chose to focus on twinks, how he courted the young men and signed them to his company, and the relationships he had with these actors.

Another chapter is solely devoted to Lockhart, who provides star power necessary to make Kocis’ death more than just another murder case. I’m not entirely sure how this chapter has any relevance to the actual murder, as it delves into his background which has, at most, a very incidental role in the case.

Kerekes and Cuadra’s defenses span a few chapters, delving into their finances, their lawyers, the evidence against them, Kerekes’ guilty plea, and finally Cuadra’s trial, which is very detailed. Finally, the epilogue examines Kerekes’ and Cuadra’s lives in prison, the reporters who covered the case, the detectives and prosecutors involved in the case, Lockhart’s blog posts about the murder and subsequent events, and Lockhart’s life and career since Kocis died.

Cobra Killer gives insight as to why Cuadra and Kerekes killed Kocis: they wanted Lockhart to work for them, and Kocis was standing in their way, despite Kerekes stating clearly “neither did we need Lockhart” (pages 57-8). The authors offer information about how and why Lockhart and Roy chose to work with law enforcement and tape their subsequent interactions with Cuadra and Kerekes.

As for references, I literally held by breath when looking at Cobra Killer for the first time. I scrolled to the end of the first page; nothing, then tried a few other pages with the same results. Still hoping, I went to the end of the first chapter; still nothing. Hope waning, I tried the end of the second chapter. Nope. Last shot: end of the book. There, in all its wonder were the end notes, divided by chapter. Now, this is not by any means a perfect accounting- the references give no hint as to where many of these sources were found (for instance, this reference, in its entirety, reads, “Melnick Interview with AES, 6-9-09”). I do approve of the authors attempts at noting their sources, especially direct quotes, however certain aspects of the book were written as though common knowledge. For example, on page 7, the authors note how Kocis’ friend, Robert Wagner, travelled to Pennsylvania at the bequest of the local police, but no reference is given for that. Is it supposition, or was that actually verified by either transcripts or one of the involved parties? I do understand that true crime type books generally don’t follow scholarly requirements for citing references, as they can be fictionalized accounts. In offering endnotes and quotes, Cobra Killer appears at first glance to be non-fiction, however, given the sporadic referencing, does indeed fall into the True Crime genre.

Frankly, had Sean Paul Lockhart never had his (rather peripheral) role in the entire case, this would be another forgotten greed-fueled murder, but because of his popularity this became a sensationalized event. As such, I can only really recommend Cobra Killer to a limited audience: those interested in Lockhart, pornography, or true crime novels.

Blurb: In the slave city of Spire, Ellis has been discarded. His former master, a man who was supposed to teach him and take care of him, passed away, leaving Ellis alone and in danger of being taken to the Facility. Ellis is desperate to avoid that fate. He seeks a master to take him on, guiding him into adulthood as well as a profession. Ellis has had desire stolen from him—he’s been trained to blush, to submit, to give in. He doesn’t know how to cope with William, a man who wants the real Ellis.

William is a Master, a man born in a neighbor city that does not deal in slavery. He has had bad experiences with slaves in the past, but all that changes when he rescues Harte, a young slave whose abusive master had all but destroyed him. Together, they are content in their mutual roles, not looking for anything more. But when Ellis catches the eye of Harte, and by extension, William, their relationship changes in ways for which they are unprepared.

Harte is a born submissive, a young man who lives for his role. He’s bratty but genuine. William, his master, is his entire life. Harte never expected to have room in his heart for another, but Ellis is beautiful and different and fills a place in his life that he hadn’t known was empty.

If only Ellis could learn to ask for what he desired, what he needed, then maybe William and Harte could help him. But Ellis is trapped inside himself, insecure and afraid. To stay with William, he only has to ask…but that’s the one thing Ellis cannot do…

Advisory: This book contains some non-consensual sex, hardcore bondage and punishment, torture and abuse. May not be suitable for the more sensitive reader. (via Goodreads)

Review: A few words of warning ~ This book takes place in a world where intelligent children are forced into slavery from age 16 to 20, to learn their master’s trade, but are also used sexually by their masters. Many parts are hard to read, as there is non-con/dub-con, sometimes involving underage children.

That said, At His Throat, a Promise is extremely well-written. The characters all have complete, yet not overwhelming, backstories that lend credence to their actions. Their life stories are doled out at appropriate times during the book, neatly avoiding the information dump so many authors use. The build of both characters and plot is almost flawless.

I did have a few issues with William, who is the ‘nice’ master of the book, but… if he’s so nice, why is he still making his slaves have sex with him? Why does he punish his slaves? And most importantly, why does he have slaves at all? But that was me reading as though At His Throat, A Promise takes place in a world with our morals, and once I put myself into their mindset, these actions make sense.

Ellis is a bit of a snitching brat, but he has his reasons, and his actions are understandable when read contextually. Similarly, Harte has his moments of being irritating, but when you learn of his life before he met Ellis his personality makes complete sense.

There are some spelling/grammatical errors, usually a source of abject vexation, but I was so caught up in the well-planned plot that these mistakes hardly registered.

My suggestion? Suspend your reality, hide your moral compass, and read on. This book is worth it.

Review:  I expected to shed tears, at some point while reading this book, after reading the blurb. Addiction, prostitution, broken hearts and homes sounds like it should come with a box of tissues, if you ask me.  I never did cry. There were plenty of situations that screamed for me to but I just never connected with characters to produce tears.

Most of the story is told from the POV of Dr. Erik Daniels, a counselor and recovering alcoholic at a free clinic.  He knows what it’s like to lose everything to addiction. He used to have a committed partner whom he loves, private practice and a beautiful home in San Francisco, but lost it all to his addiction to alcohol.

Angel is a drug addicted prostitute with no place to call home. His only reason for being is to get his next high and pay for someplace to crash after shooting up. He has one true friend named Jon who loves him, but Angel isn’t capable of loving himself much less anyone else.  Every day is the same for Angel.  Selling his body and relieving him of the grotesque memories through drugs. It’s a vicious cycle that he has no desire to get out of until one night he ODs.  A night in the ER brings him in contact with Erik and a very dramatic blow up gets Angel in Erik’s rehab center.

There are three different love stories going on in this book. I was kind of into the two going on in the first 2/3 of the book and I was looking forward to seeing everyone get their happy ending.  Then everything changed and I didn’t really like how it did. It seemed to happen all at once without any subtle hints or working up to it. Until this, I thought I knew how the book would play out. I wish there had been less time getting me invested in couples that were never going to happen and more time showing me how the couple at the end of the book fell in love. Maybe the author will write the other guy’s stories next and if so, I’d give it a try.

Review: Cassian is ordered to be used as bait to lure the Firebird out of hiding. But, Cassian is given no choice in what he does, so accepts what his king has ordered. But, when he is rescued by the Firebird from a dangerous predator he learns that Arturri is just a lost soul who just wants to return home. Arturri has been stranded on this hated world for many long years. His entire family is gone, some captured by the evil men and others perished. When he discovers Cassian, he rescues him and learns the truth. it is just the kingdom he has landed in that is evil and over the mountains is his means of escape.

This is a wonderful science fiction story of an alien who has just landed in the wrong part of the world, and ends up helping to release a kingdom from its tyrannical reign. Cassian lives in a kingdom where the king reigns with an iron fist. Nobody is free and everyone lives in fear. When he is called before the king, he is terrified and has no choice but to do as ordered and he sets off to be bait in a trap. Arturri discovers Cassian in the forest and takes care of him and the two falls in love. But, they discover that they can’t just escape and Arturri ends up captured and Cassian has to do what he can to protect his love.

Cassian for me is the greatest character, as he showed an enormous amount of bravery and devotion throughout the book. Arturri is a wonderful character and your heart goes out to him for the emotional turmoil he must have been through to have been stranded on a planet and then to lose all his family. All the while knowing what his fate might be if he is ever captured, after witnessing the savagery of the natives. Cassian and Arturri do make a great couple, even though they are separated by a cage and two vicious men.

The storyline is great, the characters are wonderful, even the ones who are self-motivated, and there is danger, rescues, escapes and chases with close shaves. Cassian is a true hero, when he discovers what is being kept hidden under the castle, and he puts his life in danger so others might escape. There are some uncomfortable moments where the king’s head of security, Phrixus, looks like he might get his way *shudder* and some instances of violence.

So, if you love science fiction, hot sexy men, escapes from evil men, rescues, danger, hot sex, and a very happy ending then this is the book for you.

Blurb: Former Roman soldier Gristle—“tough and hard to swallow”—has rarely allowed anyone in his life to become close to him. One outstanding exception is Tristus, a man he saved ten years before from the urges of lonely soldiers near the Wall of Hadrian. Tristus became his own lover for eleven months, and then he disappeared. Ten years later, the young pony trainer Wynn is smitten by Gristle’s looks and manner and follows him to his new home in Éire (Ireland) where he becomes his lover.

The stories of the three men interweave until at last they all three meet briefly in sacred Tara, home of the High King. Wynn is abducted by druids with sinister and lustful designs, and Tristus wants to follow the ministry of Father Patrick.

Thus no sooner has Gristle found an old lover and a new one than they are all pulled apart by the one whom Gristle calls “the bitch goddess Fortuna.”

Purchase Link: http://www.bookstrand.com/warrior-ride-hard

Review: Gristle is a sworn armsman, unlucky in love and rarely seeming happy. He is sworn to protect the hellion, Caylith, and it is a journey that will take him to Ireland and discovering new and old love. Wynn is the pony trainer. He wishes for Gristle to train him, but he is also strangely attracted to Gristle as well. But, love doesn’t run smoothly when Gristle’s old love turns up and Wynn finds himself in more trouble than he ever imagined.

This is a very interesting novel that pulls us into 5th Century Ireland as Roman, Welsh and English immigrants flee from the Saxon promise of invasion of Britannia. Gristle lost the only man he had loved when he disappeared in the night 10 years before, and now with Wynn he has a new opportunity to embrace love, but the path is not an easy one. Wynn wants nothing more than to be with Gristle, but when Gristle’s old love arrives on the scene he has brief doubts. But, before he can reaffirm his love with Gristle, Wynn is kidnapped and Gristle thinks he has run.

I must admit to enjoying the storyline of an old Roman soldier, Gristle, and a Welsh pony trainer, Wynn, falling in love and then Tristus arriving confusing Gristle. I found those aspects of the story to be good and the way something would come up to keep them from sorting out the problem was interesting. Wynn’s kidnapping was surprising and added a touch of meat to the bones, but was completely unrealistic, and Gristle’s casually dismissal of Wynn when Tristus turned up was much more than just dented pride. Tristus was a great character who came through as a much better man than Gristle did.

I will admit to being completely baffled when the story suddenly took a turn back in time by ten years to when Gristle and Tristus first met. Mainly because Gristle had already remembered it all earlier on, but secondly because it didn’t add anything new, until we got to Tristus’s POV and we find out why he disappeared. It just seemed to be more filler than any useful aspect of the story. The author has done a very good job of creating a world for Gristle and company and using artistic license to make it work.

So, I will recommend this to those who love historical stories, Romans, Welshmen, primitive hot sex, fighting for survival and a happy for now ending.

Review: Garrett’s Alpha is completely insane. the abuse that he has heaped on the pack is getting worse and Garrett has finally managed to escape, barely making it out alive. Haven is asked to investigate the disappearance of his friends’ sister and almost hits his mate as he runs out into the road, and discovers more about what is going on in the Cedarhill Pack. With the help of a neighboring pack and his mate Garrett, the Weir council and Haven set about to bring ruin on the Cedarhill pack Alpha.

This book is, erm, okay, well it’s urm… *sigh* okay, this book is poorly written and poorly edited. *sigh* it gave me a headache trying to keep track of whose  POV was what and it would suddenly change with no warning, sometimes just for a few sentences. The storyline was a good one, but very poorly executed. Surprises would suddenly jump out with no warning and with no explanation afterwards or the characters wouldn’t know anything and then later they suddenly did. There is also an abundance of characters who’s POV we flit through, which made it confusing at times and there is no background building for the paranormal world.

I will be honest and say that this book would have worked better in the ‘less is more’ attitude. There was just too much being thrown in for an inexperienced writer. The writing should have been left concentrating on the main characters Haven and Garrett, and with better explanations as to the new paranormal aspects that were being introduced. And, the slower introductions of those paranormal aspects. The writing could be sometimes confusing in the way that the characters spoke to each other. It was difficult to follow at times.

Okay, now that I have said all that, let me tell you this, this author has huge potential because she has all the bare bones there to make a great story. The characters were great and quite loveable, the storyline was interesting and unique with a great many twists and turns and the sex was hot and sexy. Haven and Garrett make a great couple and their friends are interesting and their stories also begin in this book, we also get a good hint of what will happen in the next book (Tyler’s Dreams).

So, I will recommend this to those who love the paranormal, surprises and twists, hot sex, a multitude of sexy men, an interesting storyline and some great characters. I will be keeping an eye on this author’s work as she has some great ideas.

Review: Outfield Menace is a story set in the 1950’s, following Kurt, a fifteen year old boy whose interests are different from those of other boys his age. That doesn’t seem to be an issue for him, until he sees Angel at the school dance and his whole perspectives change. One thing is certain and clear for him, Angel is beautiful. The moment he realizes his attraction to Angel, to a boy, Kurt is devastated. His mind is in turmoil and when Angel tries to talk to him, his instant reaction is to punch him. That did it. Angel is part of the baseball varsity team, or more accurately, he’s part of Adam’s gang. Life dramatically changes for Kurt; his mind is attacking him from the inside while Adam and Angel are trying to get him from the outside.

This story is narrated from Kurt’s point of view. We see as the author gives full credit to his teenage protagonist, emotions are exaggerated in the unique way teenagers see the word. Drama heightens while the story goes on.

Kurt experiences terror that is multiplied even more in his own head and when everything seem to him doomed, life take another turn and happiness awaits him in the corner. When Angel finally gets to him, Kurt is in it for a big surprise. Angel’s feelings match his own, what’s more Angel makes him see that being homosexual is not a disease, and it’s not wrong or perverted. After all, how can love be wrong?

From sheer terror to ecstatic elation I fully experienced an emotional travel back in time, to my own teen days. The insecurity, the twisting of facts and the emotional charge that are so characteristic in a teenagers mind were not lost in this book. The way we fall in love and dramatize everything about it, the emotional attachment that is so pure in those early days is completely palpable in Outfield Menace.

This book is very intense and the plot twists and changes in every corner. I loved Kurt’s character, his naivety and sheltered life, his sensitivity and guilt that follow him around like his own shadow. But I loved Angel’s character even more. I’m not sure how realistic his approach was, he seemed very intellectual for his age, no matter, I totally adored him. His love for Kurt was amazing, so very beautiful and romantic and his final deed to prove that love nearly broke my heart.

I found Outfield Menace to be a great book; if it wasn’t for the constant repetition of some things I’d be even greater. At some point I found that repetition quite a bit tiresome, however the story, the plot, and the characters make up for it. This is a must read book in my opinion, totally worth it.

Review: Raine Fall is a short follow-up to Where He Belongs, the novella that first introduced Andrew, Raine, and Vance, that focuses on Raine following his sister’s death. This offers an introspective look into Raine’s life since leaving Andrew and Vance, and a glimpse into his personal relationships. Though short, Raine Fall allows readers a unique chance to see inside a character’s thoughts about himself, his family, friends, and lovers. Although that can be interesting, Raine isn’t totally likeable, and there seems to be distance between his character and the reader that is difficult to bridge, leaving a slight disconnect between these three men and the reader.
