Review: Another case down for the books. A break in with nothing messed with, a dead vineyard worker, missing stolen artifacts, shootings and BJ is in the middle of it all. He was hired by the owner of the Vineyard and he wanted to find out what was going on. You add in that the worker was not who he truly was will be a big hit with some major tears, money in high demands and some big secrets have got BJ running all over.

I love how you see Paul in parts of the story but doesn’t really have anything to do with the investigation. He is a joy sometimes and damn hot. Wow the author does give you one hell of a description of the surrounding areas they go into, it tends to drive me in a different direction. I loose interest when there is so much detail. The characters as always are very entertaining and quite interesting. He is very loyal to his friends and family, but push him in the wrong direction and your ass is grass.

The secondary characters are always a big hit with these stories. They really help with the investigation. They also have some pretty easy quirks to like. I like how the mysteries were wrote in this one but will admit that I figured out parts of it before the end. It is still enjoyable to watch BJ interact with his clients, the suspects, other agencies and his friends. He is like a dog with a bone in some parts which gets a big hit from me.

Now for the downside as well written as it was, the murder itself was too neat and it didn’t come off the way three bullets would or should have. It shows a more violent type then what was really behind it. As I said above the story just had too much description in it to make it keep my attention throughout the story. Usually I get caught up in a story but this one had me skimming parts of the story just to get through it. However that is just my insight.

Other than my issues with the story it was well written, even paced and a fun read. I would recommend it and the previous titles in the series.

Review: I would recommend reading this series in sequential order. It tells you about our sexy characters and gives you a bit more about their back ground. Also you will enjoy them quite a bit.

Jazz and his brother had helped B.J. on a case and was a dear friend. When his brother came to B.J. and wanted his help, B.J. had not expected Jazz to be a victim of human trafficking.

Jazz had been only looking for the one, the one that would love only him. It led him to many dating sites and to a man named Juan. The problem was Juan was deep neck in the world of selling young children and occasionally an adult. He was eighteen but looked like he was about fifteen or so. He was also very beautiful.

The lead went into many different directions all the way up to politician’s it would seem. They needed to find Jazz and then shut down the whole gig. The leader whom they call Silver Wings, is not only slippery but very deadly. To know more you need to read the book.

I came across this author when the first book came out in this series and lets just say he is one of my top mystery writers. This story was written about what truly goes on in our world, but the ending just so happens to be happy in the end. Well written and told with so much heart that it just draws you in and keeps you there. It gives you action, danger, murder, suspense and a few hot times for our two main characters. It actually gives you more than you could possibly ask for in a story.

Now on the downside, it is also a very long telling story. So I would suggest it on a cold winters day off with a glass of wine on the table besides you. For me I didn’t really like the fact that it came off so long and a bit over telling in parts, but the story itself rocks. Now even though I list it as gay romance it truly isn’t, it is more on the mystery than anything else. It has a much darker tone to it then the previous ones which one can expect from such a dark subject.

I can’t say that this one is a top favorite of mine, it is pretty high up there. I enjoyed the characters quite a bit and Jazz will be a favorite of mine, and I do hope to hear about him and his new guy in future books.

I enjoyed reading this story and would definitely recommend it.

It ceases to be a funny when the young thief dies in a suspicious truck wreck. The search leads BJ and his lover, Paul Barton, to the sprawling Lazy M Ranch in the Boot Heel country of southwestern New Mexico bordering the Mexican state of Chihuahua.

A deadly game unfolds when BJ and Paul are trapped in a weird rock formation known as The City of Rocks—an eerie array of frozen magma that is somehow at the center of the entire scheme. But does the theft of Quacky involve a quarter million dollar duck-racing bet between the ranch’s owner and a Miami real estate developer, or someone attempting to force the sale of the Lazy M because of its proximity to an unfenced portion of the Mexican border? BJ and Paul go from the City of Rocks to the neon lights of Miami and back again in pursuit of the answer… death and danger tracking their every step.

Review: This series involves our sexy P.I. and quite a bit of crazy charactes. Now this can be read as a standalone, but I would suggest reading in order. It gives you an insight into Private Investigator B.J..

Quacky Quack the second has been ducknapped. She is worth a quarter of a million dollars, well that is what the insurance is at. I think the old bird is in for it, but then again her owner wants answers. She wants her prize duck back, so she wants B.J. to find her. The thing is the insurance agent got to him first, so we will see. Did Lizard lips get murdered for the bird or for something more drastic.

B.J. is on the trail of the ducknapper’s killer. However it could be anyone on either side of the fence. Is it the duck-racing, drugs, guns or something even more sinister, one could only guess. It leads our sexy investigator and his lover on a danger pursuit.

Now who names a duck Quacky Quack, well a woman with the name Mud. She is old bat herself, and prides her downfeathers and if a little racing is done, who is to know. It would seem almost the whole state knows, except for the insurance company. At first I was like B.J., laughing my ass off about a duck being ducknapped. But it got real serious with the murder, attempted murder and well your going to have to read the book on this one.

This has many twists and turns to it, that you will definitely be entertained from it. It was like being right there to witness it all. Is the duck pate now or is she still alive, hmmm never had duck before. It has a very tight mystery going on. I do love the little wisp of romance between B.J. and Paul that you get hints of. There is no real romance going on in the story, just hints and behind the sheets. It caught my attention from the start and kept it all the way to the end.

Fascinating tale with just a bit of humor to it. I never knew one could get insurance on a duck, but I guess anything is possible. I had a lot of fun with it and can not wait to get my hands on the next book.

Review: This series involves our sexy P.I. and quite a bit of crazy charactes. Now this can be read as a standalone, but I would suggest reading in order. It gives you an insight into Private Investigator B.J.

This author was one of the first mystery authors that I came across that I truly enjoyed. He goes into a world that is full of deceit, lust, danger and even murder. It caught my attention from the moment I started reading and kept it all the way to the end. I don’t normally read novels this long, but this one kept me on the edge of me seat. I just needed to know the answer to my many questions. And let me tell you the twist was never expected.

B.J. has taken on some creepy clients, but the latest one takes the tip. Alfano is a very wealthy wine mogul and has a missing son. He is also a homophobic asshat and swears that his son is just going through a stage. He want’s B.J. to locate him and bring him home. It sends him into quite a bit of New Mexico. Here he is looking for a gay kid with a boyfriend and a brigh orange porsche. With that kind of car one would stand out. To bad it was stolen and B.J. watches it crash and burn. Leads send him into some shady locations.

With shady locations, you find the perfect people to help you. To top it off, Lando’s brother wants to help. With killers a foot, two men dead, a missing young man, and a rich asshat, well B.J. is in for a long ride.

Now normally I go for romance stories, however this is a true and true murder mystery story. You get a little loving from our sexy character and the man he loves. But the story is based on the murder and mystery, which is a plus. This story was perfect in my eyes. Not to many authors get every bit and piece put together, this author does just that. It was fast flowing and had a tight story line.

Our main character, B.J., is a professional with an attitude of don’t mess with me. He hung up on the old fart when he called the first time, and then took the case. I never guessed who the killer was, or what he had done before that. I was also kind of glad to find out who did it, because that was one sick, well you can guess my next word. Now for the downside, there was much more details about locations and settings that was a bit of a headache to me. Other than that, this was a top rated story.

I had a blast reading it and can not wait to get my hands on the next book.

Review:  I am never sure of what to expect from an author I have never read before so I am always a bit leery of reading them.  The title is what caught my attention, but only so far as I had no clue what Zozobra actually meant.  As for the story itself let’s just say it was not what I expect.

I do have to say that I do love a good detective story or should I say a sexy man with a gun.  It is a unique story with some very interesting characters.  Although I am not sure if I actually liked it or not.  BJ was shot two years ago, which was the same time Del dumped his ass.  It would seem Del couldn’t handle blood and wounds like a true man could.  He had needs which led him to Emilio.  Emilio was a gigolo who took some very sexy pictures, and now Del needed them back.  So he goes to the one man who could help him.  Which was weird that BJ took the assignment.

Now his secretary was not one of my favorite characters but only because she didn’t much care for his lifestyle.  Complex plots, interesting story lines, and crazy characters were just a bit of what is expected from this story.  The story itself was a bit dry for me and not as entertaining as it should have been.  I hate to admit that I skimmed quite a bit from it.

I am afraid that this story just didn’t flow right for me.  It was a bit on the slow side of things and didn’t really do much for my attention span.  I am afraid that this book sounded pretty good but when I started reading it I just couldn’t get into it.  It has great potential but failed to deliver.  I just hope the next book is a bit more entertaining.  As for this one, it just wasn’t really for me.

The Zozobra Incident

by

Don Travis

B. J. Vinson is a former Marine and ex-Albuquerque PD detective turned confidential investigator. Against his better judgment, BJ agrees to find the gay gigolo who was responsible for his breakup with prominent Albuquerque lawyer Del Dahlman and recover some racy photographs from the handsome bastard. The assignment should be fast and simple.

But it quickly becomes clear the hustler isn’t the one making the anonymous demands, and things turn deadly with a high-profile murder at the burning of Zozobra on the first night of the Santa Fe Fiesta. BJ’s search takes him through virtually every stratum of Albuquerque and Santa Fe society, both straight and gay. Before it is over, BJ is uncertain whether Paul Barton, the young man quickly insinuating himself in BJ’s life, is friend or foe. But he knows he’s stepped into something much more serious than a modest blackmail scheme. With Paul and BJ next on the killer’s list, BJ must find a way to put a stop to the death threats once and for all.
