Blurb: The year is 1934, and disgraced federal agent Nathan Devereaux is escorting convicted felon John Banks to visit his dying mother. Banks is despondent, miserably ill with a heavy cold, and unenthusiastic about traveling by plane. It isn’t a responsibility Devereaux wants, but something about the prisoner’s plight resonates with him.

Devereaux charters a plane to Wisconsin, hoping to get there before Banks’ mother breathes her last. But a routine journey swiftly turns into a sojourn in hell when a violent winter storm forces the plane miles off course, and Banks’ seemingly bad cold turns out to be diphtheria.

Stranded many miles from the destination, Devereaux must find a way to save Banks’ life without compromising the mission. Like Banks, Devereaux has secrets of his own, and the scope and purpose of his mission don’t quite square with the stories he tells. Making matters worse, he is the only one standing between Banks and certain death, but even a federal agent can do only so much—especially an agent with blood on his hands.

Review: Everyone makes mistakes in life, some get caught, some are forgivable, and some need to forgive themselves. Devereaux and Banks have both made mistakes that change the direction of their lives, they both have secrets to hide. One man’s good fortune will give them both second chances.

For such a short story, there was a complicated merging story line. Devereaux’s past catches up with them both while Bank’s while the reader grieves for Bank’s past, the two meet in interesting ways, and I’m still left a little confused about what Devereaux did wrong….though I can’t give more away without giving up the gig.

The sexual attraction between the two is rather sweet and caring than hot, but it’s beautiful in its way. There is nothing explicit in the intimate scenes, but exemplary of the human condition. This is a short and sweet story with a bit of mystery, a little suspense, tossed into a snowstorm.

A great little story, packed with great reading, I highly recommend.

As part of his duties, he also goes to Rafe’s room each night to tidy away his clothes.

One night, Rafe tentatively asks Henry to go beyond his valet duties to relieve Rafe’s sexual tensions. Henry enjoys their increasingly intimate encounters, but he’s soon disturbed to find he feels more for Rafe than mere physical attraction.

Now, Henry faces a difficult decision. Can he remain in the same house as Rafe if his affections are not returned?

Prime’s Review: ♥♥♥♥♥ 4.5Hearts

For lack of a better word, this is a really cool story. At the heart is a ghost story, although we also see the trials of a new couple bringing their lives together after meeting each other on holiday. However, to be honest if you read this wanting to read a good ghost story, you’ll get what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for something else, I don’t know what, you might be disappointed.

We don’t get too much depth about Jason and Kevin, our main characters. I think that is rather a pity because they both very likable and relatable characters, which is always the trick to have in a ghost story. Though, Jason has a couple of drama queen moments, Kevin is the strong, silent, dependable, stoic type. The guard dog that the couple purchase through Kevin’s work as a State Trooper, Max the German shepherd, is also an adorable addition to the budding family and a worthy character as well.

The haunted house Jason and Kevin move into is like a minor character itself, serving up the mystery for the story. In the end, once all is said and done, the resolution was both sweet and sensitive. My only problem is I want to know more about Jason and Kevin!

Gigi’s Review: ♥♥♥♥3.5 Hearts
At first I thought this short story was going to be a total stinker, boy meets boy on vacation, has a fling, falls in lurve, they move in together…really? But then things get interesting. As this new couple finds a real estate deal that’s too good to be, true weird things start happening.

As Kevin leaves to go to his day job as a cop, Jason is left alone in the house that starts haunting him. He gets a big bag police dog, and even then, both Jason and the dog start reacting to strange hauntings and happenings in their new home.

Kevin sees his new home and his new love unraveling before his eyes, so he needs to solve this mystery fast. Will his sleuthing skills be enough, and can they put to rest the spirits that are haunting their home and happiness?

Quirky, a little tongue in cheek, a bit cheesy at times but fun enough. I do love a good mystery.

Review: Wow! This little novella gives a new perspective on what makes the office jerk such a beast! The author did a great job turning a monster into a man I was sympathetic for, and felt I wanted to wrap him up and show him the world is a much better place and he can be better too! That’s exactly what Marchant does for Ed.

Marchant takes the lead, takes control, and shows Ed that he’s not the twisted monster his family led him to believe he was, and that if he doesn’t want to be alone, Ed needs to show his true self to others, welcome them in, and trust his growing circle of friends. It’s a lot of wonderful D/s without the explicit sex scenes, and powerful still!

Fest paced, far too short just because I want more Ed and Marchant! I haven’t made myself familiar with Frankie’s series, now I certainly will!

When Skyler loses it, he’s surprised to find a straight jock like Ryan knows what it’s like to have your heart-broken and what it’s like not to belong. Behind his cocky smile, Ryan is feeling hopeless about his grades, his chances of getting into university, and his lack of real friends.

When Ryan invites him on a family ski trip, Skyler thinks escaping the city will let him lick his very private wounds in peace. He doesn’t count on Ryan’s warmth and affection amid the grandiose snow-covered mountains with their wonderland white trees, or the magical way Ryan’s silky hair fills with perfect six-point snowflakes. He certainly doesn’t expect Ryan to have secrets of his own that could burn them both–or lead to Skyler’s first truly loving relationship.

Review: Poor Skyler, his heart has just been broken, he’s outcast at school, and now his newfound friend Ryan is such a tease he’s going to explode with hormones and embarrassment. But does Ryan know what he’s doing? Is there more happening here, or is his new friend in denial? Or is this just a big pity party on Skyler’s behalf?

The boys spend a lot of time together playing in Ryan’s winter wonderland, learning their fears, desires, what they enjoy doing, and “helping each other out” sexually. A guy can help a friend and not be gay right? Yeah…not so much.
Skyler and Ryan are starting to realize their bond is not just friendship but also sexual attraction, and just when things start to settle, enter a boy from Ryan’s past.

This great big jerk-face of a kid steps into the scene and causes all kinds of trouble, mistrust and even assaults Skyler. Can the boys get beyond this trouble and Ryan’s new revelations?

It’s an endearing story, I can’t say it’s very sexy because I just can’t go there with young boys, but there is sexual content. This does seem to have a happy for now ending, but new characters develop and I’m sure we’ll see more from them in the next installment of the West Coast Boys.

Review: An interesting imagining of a Steampunk world, ruled by cogs, floating cities, and air ship transport. A world where there are many paranormals, but of course different species should not breed, and among those there are different classes.

Cod was a perfect character to dislike right off the bat as intended, but I never did warm up to him. Bif seemed rather shallow and diffident too. I really hope this was not an attempt to write in the style of Christopher Moore, because if so, it fails.

I think there was supposed to be humor here. There is some good action in attempts to go unnoticed and to escape capture. The sex scenes are a bit predictable, not really unique, but fun.

My attention was piqued at the blurb, but there was more intrigue in that, than in the short story itself.

Review: Had to wrap my head around this one! I really do enjoy a bit of kink, BDSM, if written well, really turns my crank, but this took some imagination on my part! If you’re read Buchanan before, and specifically enjoy the Deputy Joe series, I think you’ll groove to this.

Russ and Bishop have a past, and details and emotions are slowly spilled out as the story, and the drama at the youth detainment camp develops. It’s a shorter story than Jame’s others, so I felt it was a rather quick transition from Bishop’s day job persona to his role as Russ’ pony, specifically his unbroken, skittish mustang. The details about gear, or tack, help me imagine the transition better, but it’s still a bit difficult to imagine a group being into strictly pony play kink, and not involving other fetish play too.

I’ve been around horses all my life, have owned several throughout the decades, and the author does a good job of getting Bishop to think like a horse, strike out like a horse, even spook like a horse! But I still balked at the sexual stimulus here, specifically the sheath, making the individual ponyboy hung like a horse, I kind of get, but then in another scene, Russ fucks him with it and I lost the connection. I even looked up the horse/phallic sheaths to get a better idea of what was going on in the scenes. It’s little stuff, and maybe because it takes so much to put my head in that space, it didn’t work for me, but might light someone else’s fire.

Now the plot involving the youth camp, troubled kids, how frustrating the system can be, and the missing boy…that was interesting and grabbed my attention. I work with some PO’s and do group activities for troubled kids, so I understand the drive, and the sad, frustrating reality of recidivism. I like how the author sheds light on this, and how important the job is even if only a handful of kids change their lives and take a new direction.

Overall, an interesting, very kinky, quick read. Happy to have new material from James Buchanan!

Blurb: In a life full of yes, no is the sexiest word he’s ever heard.

David Beauchamp might as well be in jail. After one too many misunderstandings with the law, he’s chained to the city by the GPS and alcohol sensor strapped to his ankle. Awaiting trial, cut off from usual forms of entertainment, he goes looking for a nameless sexual encounter—and winds up with almost more than he can handle.

Reality comes crashing back the next day with a summons for another random drug test, and the man behind the badge turns out to be the very man who took him for one hell of a ride.

Probation Officer Tai Fonoti is used to handling other people’s problems, but he’s horrified when one of the clients his boss dumps on him is the sweet piece of ass he screwed the night before. It makes getting a urine sample a pretty loaded situation.

That single encounter left Beach craving Tai’s unique brand of control and discipline. But while Tai relishes laying down the law in the bedroom, the letter of the law stands between them and kinkily ever after.

Warning: This book is kinky. I mean kinky. With lots of sex. It describes a fully consensual, intense D/s relationship, which changes a character’s life. It includes impact play and bondage along the way to a very happily ever after.

Reviewer:GiGi

Review: I love it when a bratty man finds someone to lay down the law! In this case, both figuratively and literally, David “Beach” Beauchamp finds that very man for him. Not only does Tai have a kink for control in the bedroom, he can’t help but let it carry over into all aspects in his life. He trains and controls dangerous creatures, from the probation participants that are part of his job, to a dog rescue with a violent past. Tai’s ability to train and dominate oozes from his pores.

Beach is a player. He doesn’t take relationships, jobs, or his life seriously and rebels at every corner. The only thing keeping him tethered to reality and avoiding another bad decision is his ankle bracelet, ordered by the court; until he meets Tai. From a wealthy background, with a troubled past, we’re painted a picture of a brat who is so careless; he’s starting to pull his friends down with him.

His bathroom trick in a local bar gives him a taste and dominance that’ he’s been subconsciously yearning for, too bad it’s his parole officer he’s craving.

Beach decides to attempt a bit of blackmail with his parole officer only to get shot down with a definite no, to his actions, and his bad behavior. Turns out hearing “no,” is almost as big a turn on as the domination Tai gave him in that bathroom. Soon the two tumble into further exploration of Beach’s need for dominance, that bleeds out of the bedroom and into everyday life.

As Beach explores his need for Tai’s dominance, Tai fears failure the likes of which he recently experienced with his ex. Not only does he question his ability to handle and train Beach, he worries about the trouble he knows he could get into with his job.

The sexual content is very steamy, especially if you like the D/s kink as I do! There are some S/M scenes involving punishment that are difficult for both Tai and David, but really seem to help define their relationship.

Lots and lots of tangles, and twists, especially as Tai uncovers David/Beach’s past. There are many surprises and lots of characters I know come from other books in this adventurous, fast-paced series. I have not read the other Bad in Baltimore books, and I know they would add another level to Mitchell’s storytelling, yet Bad Behavior is written well enough to stand alone.

Definitely worth a read and I look forward to cracking open the other four books in this series too!

Review: Aww, even with a bit of violence and drama this cute story is just sweet enough to give me a toothache, in the best way.

Loving Jay is truly romantic, a friends to lovers scenario, where Liam is fighting confusing feelings for a cute guy he admires on the train each morning, until a missed train gives them both a chance to meet, and build a friendship over their morning commute.

One thing leads to another, Liam is forced to face his attraction to Jay…, and thankfully, his family all saw it coming…out that is, except for Liam’s dad.

Loving Jay is nicely written, cleanly edited and has a steady pace. It’s a slow build to a loving relationship with some scary gay bashing in the midst. Over all a feel-good story that will brighten those cloudy days. I recommend with a good cuppa.

Review: For those who loved Justin and Niall from Breaking Out, it’s going to be a lovely and long journey through marriage and adoption for these two men.

The plot is long and somewhat predictable, following many of the ups and downs of long-term relationships, the stress and excitement of marriage, or civil union, and the life altering decision to adopt children. All the while Justin and Niall are battling family issues with their parents, specifically Niall’s mother, and Justin’s mother in law.

The drama is slow, but there’s lots of love and community support for our guys. I did find myself wanting to skip ahead a bit, but over all a loving story, and maybe a somewhat over imagined familial bliss.

Writing children into a story plot, spending time with them, and making a realistic effort at portraying a child-rearing environment is tricky. Often times writers over idealize it. Life with kids is wonderful, but it’s also painful, frightening, aggravating, stressful, and tiring. I’m expecting a third book, because Niall and Justin have a TON to learn if they think parenting is going to be anything like the blissful, warm, fuzzy wonderful time they spent taking care of their nephew Tom for a week.

Not to rain on this parade. Life is difficult, and characters like Justin and Niall face hurdles so many of us can’t even imagine, so I can’t blame the author for writing a lovely, warm story about relationships and lifelong commitments. Not to say everything is roses, I’d be arrested for assault if I had a mother in law like Maisie, or a Mom like Niall’s.

A well-written story that satisfies our need to know how Niall and Justin are doing. I hope their journey ahead is full of blessings for them and their two new additions.

Review: I really love this kind of story. Plenty of drama, angst, struggle, and two great role models for Scotty and Jean to learn from and find shelter with.

Burnt Reflections is the name of the bar where Scotty finds refuge after he finds himself fleeing from home, hatred, betrayal, and abuse. I, like Scotty, thought Butch and Tony might be too good to be true, but the owners of the bar pulled through.

Bitch and Tony are two gay partners who run a bar together. Butch is the softhearted bear who takes in strays, and Tony is the tough bouncer who worries that his lover will get burned by his generous heart.

To back up a little, the general theme of this story is all about coming out, feeling the rejection of family, being betrayed by a closeted first love and doing the only thing you can to survive…flee…to an unknown future in a dangerous world for someone so young and inexperienced.

What I love most about this story is that it contains an important element in any life journey, mentors and heroes who provide a safe, informed environment for a young person do discover who he is, make a few mistakes, and grow into a strong man. Maybe it’s the mother in me.

The sexual content is raw, honest, and intimate. I feel like Burnt Reflections could easily become another series though the story stands alone, I want to follow these guys further.

A wonderful read by J. Roman. I highly recommend.

Blurb: Wulfstan, a noble and fearsome Saxon warrior, has spent most of his life hiding the fact that he would love to be cherished by someone stronger than himself. Not some slight, beautiful nobody of a harper who pushes him up against a wall and kisses him.

In the aftermath, Wulfstan isn’t sure what he regrets most—that he only punched the churl in the face, or that he really wanted to give in.

Leofgar is determined to prove he’s as much of a man as any Saxon. But now he’s got a bigger problem than a bloody nose. The lord who’s given him shelter from the killing cold is eyeing him like a wolf eyes a wounded hare.

When Wulfstan accidentally kills a friend who is about to blurt his secret, he flees in panic and meets Leofgar, who is on the run from his lord’s lust. Together, pursued by a mother’s curse, they battle guilt, outlaws, and the powers of the underworld, armed only with music…and love that must overcome murderous shame to survive.

Warning: Contains accurate depictions of Vikings, Dark Ages magic, kickass musicians, trope subversions and men who don’t know their place.

Review: It’s an interesting enough struggle to be dropped back in time to a land of barbarians, a land where Christianity is fighting to overtake Pagan religions, therefore, cleverly incorporating them. The Viking Berserker is a fighter, a warrior, the strongest of the strong, not a man to mess with…so how can he allow himself not only to fall to his attraction of men, but to his submissive desires as well? So many fabulous struggles, and I love that in my reading pleasures.

This is the emotional and political turmoil that Leofgar stumbles into…and easily ignites that Berserker’s rage. Wulfstain takes out all his frustration on the little musician that not only ignites his ire, but his lust. It’s a game of kiss or kill, and luckily, Leofgar escapes.

When the two come together again, both on the run, they pull together and explode apart many times. Each trying to understand themselves and their attraction, each vying for strength and recognition of their abilities and places in the world.

Through harrowing adventure, escape from killers, fighting for the suppressed, and finally fighting for each other, Wulfstain and Leofgar see that weakness and strength mean many different things, in the world, and to each other. That they each have unique strengths and personal weaknesses and that they complement each other making them stronger together.

The Reluctant Berserker is a long read, but there are many small adventures along the way, keeping the pace steady, and keeping my interest throughout. A fun step back in time, in some cases a historical that plays around with facts a bit, but puts me in another time and place nonetheless.

Ian says David’s past doesn’t matter, but when he sees David with another older gentleman, he immediately thinks the worst. Both men must embrace honesty or lose each other for good.

Review: The title is a bit purposefully ironic. If stereotypes are correct, you don’t expect much from a sports minded twink, and a hustler at that, but Ian is in for a surprise, David has a deeper side.

Ian, a set director who’s just about had it with his boss, finally pushes too far and risks losing this gig by stepping up to defend his bosses latest boy-toy. Defending David not only sparks that attraction, but even lands Ian a new role on set, director, while he utilizes David’s hidden talents as a would-be designer.

This is a deeper read in that both characters have sophisticated stories, flaws, and strengths that I didn’t guess at. David’s sacrifices and sensitivities makes Ian look at himself deeper, and to take stock of his life and his goals. Ultimately, David and Ian have the kind of stuff that makes a great relationship, the ability to utilize and spotlight new strengths in each other.

My Rugby-Playing Twink is not light fare, but a deep and enjoyable read. The writing is smooth, well-edited and the plot fast paced and interesting for many reasons, the least being the sport of rugby or the art of set design.

Grab it and enjoy it!

Review: The boss was a total jerk, they get trapped in an elevator, and suddenly they can’t keep their hands off each other?

Compromising Situations is a bit hard to get into, I really tried to grab hold of this story and have some fun with the BDSM element, but it was a bumpy ride.

The writing and dialogue seemed rough, not a natural flow. For those like me, who like to read a bit of kink, this little story may also fall short. Jared and Grant begin to play master/slave games, but in the office, the salve rules the master…or does he…

The sexual scenes could have been so much kinky fun, but felt forced and not in a good way. Compromising Situations has potential, but I think I’d put this one on the bottom the TBR list with so much quality BDSM writing out there.

Review: A dramatic little story with an interesting, if a bit uncomfortable, twist!

Promises Made, Memories Kept is a dramatic return home, after the death of a father who couldn’t accept Harry as an open gay son. The return home is painful, regretful, and a bit twisted and even spooky.

The writing is smooth and well-edited. They plot a bit of a cross between Poe, Shakespeare, and Homer, and the sexual content completely secondary if a bit uncomfortable.

A worthwhile read for a short story, and a very strong plot twist!

Review: When I read other reviews, I came to the conclusion that this is a very misunderstood story. How To Make A Carrot Cake really isn’t about vegan lifestyles, it’s about love, powerful love, sacrifice, painful loss and soul shattering life experiences.

One truly must experience what Billy is going through to understand his reactions, his behaviors, and how painful it is to let someone else in. I can’t give the big secret away or it ruins the book, but when you are going through what Billy is, your whole life revolves around it, your life is not your own, you live, eat, sleep and wake according to the other person.

I still to this day do not wear a watch because I had to set my life patterns, and that of the other person, to the face of that watch.

I have lived what Billy did and can feel each event, I understand the effort it takes to let another person in, and wanting to compartmentalize them so you can feel a bit of respite, and then get back to reality. I was so proud of Nate for taking the path he did with Billy, he is a huge hero. You can see this type of decision making in Nate’s character is his true nature, just to observe how he takes care of Marlee, you can see that.

Yes, Nate and Billy cook together, and Billy teaches Nate about vegan cooking. The real issue is not about vegan-ism, but about why people make the life choices they do. What triggers such a big life change and who are they really doing it for, themselves or someone else?

The intimate scenes are good, the ones toward the end are very powerful, but that is not really the meat and potatoes of this book. My only criticism is about the style in which this is written, the he did this, and he did that kind of description gets a bit documentary. I like more showing less telling in writing.

Other than that, How To Make A Carrot Cake is a beautiful, powerful story about the human condition, love, understanding, and sacrifice.

Review: If you’ve ever served in any small town political capacity, or you’ve had to attend those endless chamber of commerce or city meetings…you will totally relate to this cute, funny little story. If you haven’t ever experienced those duties…you may have a hard time relating, but it’s still cute to see how many hats Josh wears.

Grady just came out of self-imposed solitary living among monks, trying to give up the vice that caused him so much harm. Once on the outside he agrees to help out his cousin, a famous travel writer, by taking this assignment to tour the towns of Norcross and Westbrook, and review for him, under his assumed identity.

If you come form a small town, maybe one with a dying or dead manufacturing past, you understand how important tourism is to the local economy and identity. So the small town of Norcross is investing a lot of time and manpower to make a good impression on Grady, or who they believe to be Geoffrey Michaels. Even to go so far as to pressure their local jack-of-all-trades, Josh, who also happens to be gay, to offer his “personal” touch to the tour.

The gig is quickly up and Josh and Grady realize the pressure they are both under, but still the sparks fly, the chemistry boils over and a love affair quickly ignites. The two also figure out what Grady’s cousin was going for when he mentioned to Grady that he must “loathe Norcross” and write about it. A bitter feud between two small towns, plus money and corruption soon uncover a plot to destroy Norcross businesses and reputation, and take opportunity away from this small valley town…

I never thought small town politics could be fun and sexy, but Summer Devon makes this twisted romance a great hub to spin this story out from. Again, it packs a bigger punch if you have civic service experience, but is still charming without it.

p.s. I do so love that bartender…Uncle Jackson. I need a bigger T-shirt collection…

5 of hearts logo red on black smallReview: I really don’t think hot, sweet romance when I think of sheep shearing…so this book might not have caught my attention, but I’m so very glad I had a chance to read it!!!! The Shearing Gun is fun, sweet, sexy, very hot, interesting, adventuresome, and has a good dose of angst.

The writing was smooth, the action fast, and my attention was glued to each page. I felt like I’ve been schooled on the fine art of shearing as well as life on an Australian sheep farm. The life of these farmers and ranchers are is interesting, a bit isolated, but close-knit. It was a refreshing perspective to see how Hank’s friends and community react to the events that take place.

Elliot and Hank build an unusual friendship first, and then the sparks fly! The erotic scenes are creative, hot, and sensual. I’m thinking of a particular scene when Hank’s sheep tossing and pinning skills come to life in the bedroom! I think I read that three times….

I felt transported while reading The Shearing Gun. The author really allowed me to step into the characters, places, and events, escaping my reality for a day and getting my feet dirty with the dust of the sheep ranch in the Western Australian outback. I can almost hear them baaing now.

I’ve not read any of Renae Kaye’s work before, but you can be sure I’m watching the lists now! I can’t wait to read more from her! I highly recommend you pick up The Shearing Gun!
