Wheels and Heels

(Stories from the Hen and Hog 01)
by

Jaime Samms

As a teenager, Ira Bedford fled a troubled home life and people who didn’t understand his penchant for feminine things. In the city, he fell in with Cedric, who found him work as an underage stripper. It took him years to escape Cedric’s influence and try to build a life of his own.

Now, he just wants to be left alone to create his art. But Cedric’s on-going harassment means Ira had to drop out of art school, is squatting in a friend’s apartment, and is still relying on his allure as a sexy, skirt-wearing exotic dancer to pay his bills.

Then he meets Jed. Part-time bartender and the apartment building’s superintendent, Jed is just the right mix of strong, kind, and protective to pull Ira out of hiding. He also welcomes Ira into his chosen family at the Hen and Hog Pub. But Ira yearns for more. Still, he doesn’t dare to hope that Jed will want him and his questionable past, his skirts and high heels, his hang-ups, and the profession he seems unable to escape. But Jed will do anything to prove him wrong.

Eugene and the Box of Nails by Jaime Samms

Title: Eugene and the Box of Nails

Series: 2017 Advent Calendar Daily- Stocking Stuffers

Author: Jaime Samms

Genre: Christmas, Contemporary

Publisher: Dreamspinner Press (December 1, 2017)

Length: Short Story

Heat Level: Low

Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥ 4.5 Hearts

Blurb: Every time it seems like things are looking up for Eugene Kraft, disaster hits. Bankruptcy, a bigoted sibling, and a back-breaking accident have all left him with little money and less faith in the universe.

His last-ditch effort at peace is the small lakeside property where he is building a tiny house from recycled materials. If he can get it livable before the cold sets in, maybe he’ll be okay. Hopefully Cullen, the foreman on the construction site next door, won’t notice Eugene pilfering discarded materials from his dumpster.

When Cullen stops by to talk to Eugene, he’s sure the gig is up—but all Cullen wants is a date. Can two things go right in Eugene’s life? At first it seems possible. Projects on Eugene’s house are getting completed by what he dubs “construction elves” while he’s off site. But like Eugene predicted, his good fortune can’t last, and soon he has a tough choice to make: give up his home… or the man of his dreams.

Review: Eugene is a sweet young man who has had a hard life. He had not been able to read for many years, went to work with his brother who turned around and stole his money because he was gay, lost his job because of an injury and lost his home. He had to start all over. He bought some cheap land that couldn’t really be used and started building himself a home. Since he was broke you will have to guess where he got his equipment. However it was starting to get real cold. When the foreman from the site he had been grabbing old materials out of shows up, he is real surprised when Cullen tells him why.

This has made my day. Although I understand Eugene’s reason for wanting to do it all on his own, it does show how good some neighbors can be. I absolutely loved this story and would hope that it was going to added onto later on. It was the perfect Christmas story I have came across in a long time.

I really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it.

Kilmer and Jacko’s relationship has been foundering for a long time. With the end in sight and despairing that he might never find a Dom who suits him, Kilmer heads to a local bar to drown his sorrows—and meets country singer Tanner.

Tanner feels oddly protective of the broken man and eventually convinces Kilmer to hire him to help remodel the small, sad house Kilmer once shared with Jacko. As Tanner and Kilmer get to know each other, Kilmer regains his lost independence and Tanner’s dominant streak rises to the surface. But will it be a help or a hindrance to the trust they’re trying to build?

The answer might lie in the music Kilmer gave up not long after he met Jacko. Music always granted him solace, clarity, and an outlet for his emotions, and with Tanner’s encouragement, he picks up where he left off. Playing together eases them into honest communication, and though a happily ever after will still take patience and work, taking a chance on each other sounds sweeter with every note.

Review: Eric has been friends with Angel for quite some time.  Dwayne is Angel’s cousin who has had a harsh life.  He went to prison for something he did not do to protect someone he loved.  Eric however just sees his tattoos and the fact that Dwayne is an ex-con.  Angel helps him to learn that there is more to see in Dwayne.

At first I wasn’t really too sure about this story.  It is about a young man changing his life around even though he was not guilty in the first place.  Another to learn that what you see is not always the truth.  It is a very good story and very touching in its way.  My only problem was that it was just hard to actually get into, which is strange since it was a short story.  It was fully developed which was amazing because most short stories seem to be missing something to make them rock.  This one really didn’t feel that way.

I really liked the characters although I felt like smacking Eric upside the head through it all.  The ending was what rocked it for me.

Overall the story was very good, it just wasn’t really my kind of story.

To escape the fallout, he’s gone to Bluewater Bay to oversee the company’s interest in Wolf’s Landing merchandise.

Stuck in a small, nowhere town doing a job he hates, Blaire wants nothing more than to prove to Frederic he’s changed. However, Frederic struggles to trust the man who betrayed him once already. Blurb: After filing charges that put his abusive ex-Dom behind bars, Jesse Turbul relocates halfway across the country, hoping to escape his past—but, of course, it’s never that easy. When Jesse meets third-year law student Aadon at the library where he works, their mutual attraction is instant and obvious.

Despite the sparks, they just can’t seem to make it work. Aadon is mired in guilt over his inability to help his older brother, damaged by events far too similar to Jesse’s past. Jesse is stuck in his own desperate wish to forget the painful shadow that continues to threaten him and any hope of a happy future.

The only way to move forward is for Jesse to acknowledge he’s broken and for Aadon to accept he can’t make him better.

Warning: Graphic scenes may trigger readers sensitive to abuse issues.

Reviewer: Tams

Review: Jesse Turbul lives a life of fear and isolation, all but paralyzed by the abuse he suffered at the hands of his ex, a vicious man who used the guise of a Dom/sub relationship to physically and mentally abuse Jesse. After pressing charges and putting his tormentor behind bars, Jesse moved away and is trying to have some resemblance of a life, going to school, working in the library. When a fellow student shows interest in Jesse, it scares him and opens up old wounds.

Aadon has admired Jesse from afar for a while, not only attracted to shy guy that works at the library, but also sensing he and Jesse share a mutual interest in the type of relationship they want. But pursuing Jesse turns out to be very challenging, to say the least. Aadon is determined to learn the truth behind Jesse’s scars though.

The two begin a shaky friendship, with both wanting more but not acting on that want for different reasons. Aadon slowly unravels the mystery behind Jesse and what makes him so skittish and falls in love with the broken soul he holds in his hands. But Jesse’s hesitancy to trust anyone coupled with troubling news from home send him back into his self-imposed isolation and makes him drive away the one man who stood a chance at rescuing him, from himself.

I was drawn into this story almost immediately but somewhere along the way, the story started to drag and I found myself skimming here and there. I can’t quite put my finger on it, not quite angst but close. The story itself is what kept me going though, I became invested in these two men wanting, no needing to know whether or not they got their version of a happy ever after. This was definitely a case of narration hindering the finesse of the story, in my opinion.

My first audible from Randy Fuller and it will probably be my last. While I could hear the despair in Jesse’s voice when he was the focus, Fuller chose to use two subtly different tones for Aadon, which was confusing. I had to rewind a couple of times to be sure that it was actually Aadon who was meant to be speaking.

Sadly, I have to give this book a lower rating at this time because of the mediocre narration. I mean to go back and read the written version of this story at some point, because THAT kept me listening to this audio book. The grit and grime that was Jesse’s life, what he went through and how he survived and how he so wants to be better, to be more. And finally coming to the realization that it is something he has to do himself. He can love Aadon, but he can’t rely on Aadon to make it all better.

So, my recommendation, READ the book, and skip the audio.

Blurb: Out and uninhibited Ian McVeigh has been playing the field for years, so he can’t fathom the unexpected desire and feeling of protectiveness he experiences when he first sees rugby playing, unemployed David, his boss’s newest and most delicious-looking squeeze. David Kelly is a hustler, and he’s way out of Ian’s league. He’d never look twice at a guy like Ian, a guy with little means to woo the needy but to-die-for David.

Yet one day, David not only looks, but also touches, flirts, and all but invites Ian to lure him away from his sugar daddy. But David can’t let anything break his carefully constructed walls. Ian doesn’t know much about David’s past, and what he doesn’t know could hurt them both.

Ian says David’s past doesn’t matter, but when he sees David with another older gentleman, he immediately thinks the worst. Both men must embrace honesty or lose each other for good.

Reviewer: Gigi

Review: The title is a bit purposefully ironic. If stereotypes are correct, you don’t expect much from a sports minded twink, and a hustler at that, but Ian is in for a surprise, David has a deeper side.

Ian, a set director who’s just about had it with his boss, finally pushes too far and risks losing this gig by stepping up to defend his bosses latest boy-toy. Defending David not only sparks that attraction, but even lands Ian a new role on set, director, while he utilizes David’s hidden talents as a would-be designer.

This is a deeper read in that both characters have sophisticated stories, flaws, and strengths that I didn’t guess at. David’s sacrifices and sensitivities makes Ian look at himself deeper, and to take stock of his life and his goals. Ultimately, David and Ian have the kind of stuff that makes a great relationship, the ability to utilize and spotlight new strengths in each other.

My Rugby-Playing Twink is not light fare, but a deep and enjoyable read. The writing is smooth, well-edited and the plot fast paced and interesting for many reasons, the least being the sport of rugby or the art of set design.

Grab it and enjoy it!

Description:

On September 1, 2011, TJ Klune wrote, “…it’s not about the ending, it’s about the journey…” in a review of Eric Arvin’s Woke Up in a Strange Place. With those words, two men began a journey of love and invited us to ride along. TJ and Eric have shared so much with us: their wonderful books, their smiles, their humor, their lives, and their inspiring devotion to each other. In December of 2013, their journey took a detour when Eric was taken to the emergency room. He survived the surgery to remove a cavernous hemangioma from his brain stem, but the challenges TJ and Eric face are far from over.

The authors in this anthology donated their talent as a way to support Eric’s continued recovery, to help bring strength to TJ, and to show both of them just how much love surrounds them. Grand Adventures is a diverse range of stories about the journey of love. We’re going on some grand adventures for a great cause. Thank you for joining us.

One hundred percent of the income from this volume goes directly to TJ and Eric.

Grand Adventures - An Unexpected Thing_FBbanner_DSP

John Amory:

Hello everyone! My name is John Amory, and my contribution to the Grand Adventures anthology is titled “An Unexpected Thing.” This short is actually a sequel to a story that Dreamspinner published last June in its Daily Dose compilation called “Protection.” The new story picks up about two years after Jamie and Ben met; both are back from London and traveling the West Coast. Jamie is en route to a shooting competition with Ben in tow, but when their plane is diverted, they are forced to find their own way through the Cascades to Seattle. They, of course, find something else along the way.

I have never met TJ or Eric, but I was struck by their struggle like everyone else. We are all a family of authors and readers in this genre, and it felt like someone in our family had suddenly fallen ill. I wanted to help, especially since TJ’s book Into This River I Drown had such an effect on me. When “Protection” was accepted for publication last year, it was the first book I chose from Dreamspinner’s catalog to read, so that I could get a feel for their audience, their authors, the style of stories they publish, etc. I was blown away by River, which is, in so many ways, a really atypical (but still brilliant) M/M romance. There was so much else going on: grief, redemption, faith, closure, all of these things played into the book’s themes, and they’re all things I think TJ handled beautifully. So I began “An Unexpected Thing” as a sequel to “Protection” that contained a guest appearance by two of TJ’s characters from Roseland, which seemed only appropriate given its ties to River. I eventually re-edited the story to not include TJ’s characters (since, if all the authors did that, it would be taxing on TJ to edit and approve each story), but the essence that those characters brought to the story is still there, as well as some other Easter eggs for fans of TJ’s book. “An Unexpected Thing” is about finding love in places you never thought you would, with people you never thought you would. That’s something I got from Into This River I Drown and from TJ and Eric’s personal story, and I think it’s something universal: keep your eyes and heart open, because The One might be someone you’d never notice otherwise.

Thanks for reading and for supporting Grand Adventures! You can find me on Twitter (@JohnAmory) or on GoodReads. Feel free to drop a line! Happy reading!

About John Amory:

John Amory is and always will be a hopeless romantic, which he blames on watching too many episodes of Beverly Hills, 90210 growing up. He began writing stories and poems as a child, continuing through high school. He put writing on the backburner for a number of years, during which time he finished both Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in English, and is thrilled to be creating again now that he knows what “free time” means.

In another life, John is a newly minted college professor, as well as an actor/director/choreographer/playwright whose work has been performed in New York City and elsewhere. He is also obsessed with television and keeps two blogs on the subject: one for general reviews and comments (faketvcritic.blogspot.com), and one devoted solely to So You Think You Can Dance (cuttingsytycd.blogspot.com).

Sophie Bonaste:

1. Tell us about your contribution to the anthology.

My short story is called When Friendship Becomes More.

Here’s the official blurb, because it explains the story better than I could:

Despite their differences, Jamie and Roy are not only college roommates, but best friends. What Jamie doesn’t know is that Roy has had a crush on him for years. When Jamie realizes Roy’s feelings during a camping trip with friends, the attraction will either prove mutual, or it will tear their friendship apart.

I’m really proud of this short story. It has moments that will make you laugh and cry. I hope everyone out there loves it as much as I do.

2. What is your favorite TJ and Eric memory?

Well, I haven’t been lucky enough to meet TJ or Eric in person. But I remember reading the news of TJ’s proposal in October of last year. I was instantly touched by the obvious love between the two men. It may not have been a showy proposal like that Home Depot one that went viral a few months ago, but it was one of the most love-filled proposals I’ve ever seen. And isn’t that what’s really important?

3. Why did you choose to participate in the anthology?

When I heard about the anthology it was a no-brainer. I knew I had to help TJ and Eric in any way I could. And since writing is one of my favorite things to do anyway, it was a win-win.

4. Do you have anything to say to TJ and Eric?

I just wanted to say that you two are both some of the strongest people I’ve ever known. I wish you only the best as you go forward. Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go!!!!!

About Sophie Bonaste:

Sophie Bonaste is a novelist who never set out to be a novelist. As a child, she wanted to be a Broadway actress and spent her childhood in numerous productions. But when adulthood set in and reality took over, Sophie chose to up the theater for a steady paycheck and instead turned to writing as a creative outlet. She stumbled into the M/M genre through fanfiction and never looked back. Sophie is quite happy with her change in artistic expression and doesn’t plan to stop writing for a long time.

A self-proclaimed nerd, Sophie is an avid fan of all things Star Wars and Harry Potter. (Sophie is a member of the Slytherin house, for those who were wondering.) Blurb: Sometimes, serving his Dom means Patrick just has to take control, even if it means risking everything.
Patrick has been walking on eggshells and taking matters–and orgasms–literally into his own hands since his Dom’s muse went on vacation, leaving him unable to write. Feeling neglected and lonely, Patrick tries to entertain himself and leave his lover to work out his problems but when Leo finds Patrick disobeying one of their fundamental rules and doesn’t even get angry, Patrick knows it’s time to truly take charge. Hopefully, it isn’t too late to get his lover’s attention by forcing a little downtime over the Christmas holiday. He only hopes his taking charge doesn’t land him in more trouble than he can handle.

Review: This is a cute, quick erotic BDSM read. A frustrated Leo can’t seem to get his writing to start flowing. He’s so blinded by his writer’s block it’s making him blind to everything and everyone else in his life. Patrick, who longs for his Don’s attention is frustrated as well, sexually, and confused about their relationship and his role.

Patrick decides to get a little rebellious and figures, if his Dom isn’t doing his job, he can take matters into his own hands… orgasmically. And to find a solution to their problems. He plans a Christmas vacation for them both without computers, but with plenty of sexual heat. While on their sabbatical, they both find satisfaction, and Leo finds out his muse wasn’t gone after all, Patrick fills that role and role of sub just fine! This quick read is rather mild for the BDSM genre, but it’s cute!

Blurb:  Don Jenkins will do anything for a happy, thriving family and home. When he discovers that Griff McAllister, his life partner and love since high school, seems to be losing faith in him, he’s at a loss for how to mend the relationship. Then Howard Campbell is added to the mix, a man Don and Griff both love beyond words, and jealousy and mistrust threaten not just their bond, but even Don’s ability to keep his farm viable.

Nearly losing Howard in an accident serves as a wakeup call. They begin to pull their relationship out of the muck and work to remember why they came together in the first place. If they can figure out how to help one another and make sure each man gets what he needs, the trio might build the loving future they’ve dared to hope for. They have to be brave enough to commit every resource they can muster—especially trust, understanding, and acceptance—and realize true love is never as easy as it looks

Review: Wow! This is one heck of a beautiful, sexy story; that was even better than I expected. The title and cover got my attention and the blurb reeled me in.  I don’t reread too many books, but this one is worthy of a reread and will go on a new list of favourites!

Let me tell you a little bit about the story. Don and Griff became friends at age twelve when Griff, the new guy in school, stepped in and helped Don from a bully. They hit it off and became inseparable best friends.

Howard was a year older but had a thing for Don and one day when Don was 16 and Howard 17, they shared their first kiss and occasionally more when Howard would escape to Don’s dad’s farm from his abusive family. After a bout of jealousy, Griff and Don became lovers and since Griff was a bit possessive and jealous, Howard went his own way. Howard’s family life took yet another turn at age 19 and Griff and Don ended up being all the family he had. Things got really complicated when Griff kissed Howard and Don saw his chance to have both men. But life isn’t easy as it looks and the life Don, Howard and Griff have chosen is even harder. Is it possible for three men to love each other and have a happy perfect life, like Don thinks he can have??

Oh, boy is this one heck of a good story! It’s beautiful, happy and sad, and even though most of the sex is off the page, it’s sexy as all get-out! Just when you think it can’t get any better, BAM!! There comes another twist with Griff and Don that was smoking hot and sexy!

I loved everything about this story. I will say it’s pretty much escapism because even though in this story life and love wasn’t easy, in real life the amount of acceptance by all of Don and Griff’s family would be even more unlikely.  But this is fiction and sometimes we need those stories that make us want things that seem out of reach, and love that is complicated can be a reality.  This is one of those stories!! Charming, beautiful, suspenseful and sexy what more could you want?

If you like friends to lovers, long-term relationships, loving families, farm-boys, horses, ranchers (yes, I got my cowboys), light bdsm (mild, loving D’s), sensuous mansex, and a very good ménage a trois, this is definitely for you! I suggest if you’re looking to dip your toes in MM romance or even a M/M/M ménage this is a good one to start with. I think you will be hooked!

Blurb: Damian Learner and his grunge band, Firefly, are on a meteoric rise to success. If they get the right break, fame awaits. Seeking more professional management, Damian independently strikes a bargain with the best agent in the business, Stanley Krane. Unable to afford the penalty for breaking old contracts, Damian agrees when Stan’s best friend, country and Western megastar Vance Ashcroft, offers to buy him out of his old contract.

Overwhelmed by a crippling loan, secretive guilt, Stanley’s expectations, and a volatile relationship with Lenny, Firefly’s lead guitarist, Damian disintegrates. Bad habits of too much sex, booze, and drugs create a rift in the band. Finally Vance, with his understanding of Dominant/submissive behavior, sees that submissives Damian and Lenny are falling into chaos, clinging to each other to try to avoid the inevitable crash.

When the pressure to perform becomes too much and the unthinkable happens, Damian and Lenny have to decide: accept that they need something they can’t get from each other, or burn out and take Firefly with them. Vance is ready to claim Lenny, but even Stan’s hesitant agreement to give Damian the direction he needs might not be enough for Damian—or the band—if he loses Lenny.

Review: Damian (Trevor) is the singer for grunge band, Firefly. Being treated unfairly by their agent has Damian striking a deal with Stanley, the best agent in the business. But, getting out of his current contract is harder than Damian hoped and after paying the way out of his band mates’ contracts, he has to accept the offer of Stan’s friend, Vance, a country and western superstar, to help him buy out his own contract. Tensions are high in the band though and Damian’s volatile relationship with Lenny, Firefly’s lead guitarist, is heading for destruction. As pressure mounts, Damian turns to drink, drugs and anonymous sex and Stan takes the reins of control for Damian, and Vance steps in to take control of Lenny.

When a sub needs to give up control they need a strong hand to guide them, but what happens when the person you want to take control is also a sub? Damian and Lenny love each other, but they can never have what they truly want because neither is strong enough to take control. It affects them both in different ways and it takes interference from outside the band in the shape of agent Stan and his friend Vance for the destruction to break its cycle. Stan and Vance have had been on and off lovers for years, but Stan can’t be a sub for Vance, he has too much Dom in him for that. Vance has his eyes on Lenny and whisks him away when Lenny’s relationship with Damian goes too far. Stan takes Damian in hand and begins to give Damian some of what he needs.

Although Damian/Trevor, Lenny, Stan and Vance are the main couples in this story, the storyline focuses on Damian and Stan and in a smaller part Vance and Lenny. Stan is just what Damian needs. He isn’t a whips and flogger type of Dom, but he is more a control, structure and rules type of person. He also doesn’t take the relationship too far, giving Damian room to heal before embarking into a sexual relationship. Although we see a bit of what is going on between Vance and Lenny, we have no clue what is happening between them. I can only hope that Jaime Samms will give us their full story.

All the characters in this book are great. You have divided feelings as you read what is happening and the truth begins to unfold. There is hot scorching sex between Vance and Stan. a nice touch of D/s between Vance and Lenny and some spectacular loving between Stan and Damian. This storyline is really good and you become invested in Damian as he finds himself without the booze, drugs and sex. You want Stan to succeed as the strong guiding hand, although Stan himself has his own doubts. The things going on with Lenny are harder to see. Mainly because he has become so good at hiding and making himself the victim. I began to resent him for dumping everything on Damian’s shoulders and leaving him to pick up the pieces.

I recommend this story to those who love damaged young men, finding what you long for, a touch of D/s, a controlling Dom, a mess up sub, some really hot sex and a happy ending for Damian and Stan.

Blurb: One cop. One killer. Both dreamwalkers. Not every dream should see the light of day…

Three very different people have one thing in common-a dreamscape steeped in horror. Barry has had dreams of violent death all his life, and as a cop, he now works to solve the crimes his dreams tell him about in hopes he can save at least one victim from suffering the fate he faces every time he lays his head on his pillow. His ex-lover, Tag—now his boss—has no idea how to help him cope other than to protect his job…and try to protect their hearts from the dreams that could end up killing them both.

Leyton welcomes the dream state that shows him his next victim. He’s been a killer for as long as he can remember, and the land where he walks in shadow beside the horn-headed man who guides him feels more like home than the waking world. Now, in addition to seeking out those who would kill the innocent and ending their lives in his own special reign of terror, Leyton is promised a bride—someone to love him forever. It seems everything he’s ever dreamed is about to come true.

Jessica just wants to get her life back after her boyfriend is murdered and she is abducted. Twice. Finding herself at Leyton’s mercy is a nightmare she soon finds is only the very beginning. When the horn-headed man visits her, she knows nothing will ever be the same again.

The four of them now have to find a way to navigate the real world while the dream state dictates their very lives and threatens everything they hold dear. If they manage to catch a few killers and save a few innocent lives along the way, that will have to be their compensation for the “gifts” given by The Dreaming.

Reader Advisory: This book contains several graphic and detailed scenes of torture, dismemberment and murder.

Review: Freaking hell! I don’t know what I was expecting from this book, but it certainly wasn’t what I got. Barry has always had dreams where he is the victim, usually the victim of torture and murder.  He tries to use his dreams to solve the crimes, but the dreaming affects his work in other ways. Tag has tried to do what is best for Barry but now he realizes it was a mistake to leave him.  He has protected him at work, but now he can see that Barry is falling apart. Leyton welcomes his dreams with open arms, he enjoys going out and dishing out justice to the ones who deserve it and some he has directed Barry towards, to have Barry bring them to a different justice. Jessica gets drawn into the web of dreaming by being in the wrong place at the wrong time, but now it won’t let her go and her only hope is falling away.

This is a fantastically written story that will send shivers down your spine and make you want to sleep with one eye open or never sleep again. Barry struggles with normal life as the nightmares consumes him at night. But, it is worse than just bad dreams, he lives what victims are living through as they die.  His one safety net is no longer there to hold the dreams at bay and now someone is contacting him and threatening his beloved Tag. Tag sacrificed his relationship to help protect Barry, but now with a case getting out of control and a missing woman, he realizes that he needs Barry as much as Barry needs him. Leyton is as close to insane as you can get, but to him what he is doing is completely right, he draws Jessica into the Dreaming, because he was told wrong information.  Now, He has a team together to do His work.

This story is so different from what I expected and it was brilliant. This story draws you in as you read and doesn’t let you go.  You never know what will happen next and there are twists that you don’t see coming. Each character has a part to play and none of them have a real choice. They are dragged in by being able to dream true life.  Each person is manipulated and threatened into doing His work and you really don’t know whether to cheer Him or hide from Him. Your heart goes out to each character, even when you want to hate one of them.  But, their stories are compelling; it isn’t until near the end of the book that the main characters are all together in one room.

The relationship between Barry and Tag is complex and intense and has mistrust ingrained into it.  But, both men are willing to try to repair the relationship and take one day at a time.  The sex between them is hot and intense, even if you don’t see a lot of it. Some scenes in the book are gruesome and very well described and yes, you just might throw up a little bit in your mouth when you realize about the teeth. This book does not end how you want it to.  we might have Barry and Tag in love and sorting their relationship out and we might have Jessica still alive and free from Leyton in a way and we have a deeply disturbed Leyton accepting that he can’t have Jessica as his love… but they are all still in a place of manipulation, intrigue, murder, mystery and threats…. I so can’t wait for the next book!!

So, I have to recommend this book if you want a tense, intense, mystery, suspense, crime, thriller, paranormal, bloody, gruesome, hauntingly creepy, dark story that has hot sex, a good relationship and an ending that makes you want to find who He is.

WARNING: Some scenes may be disturbing for some readers: Self-harm, talk/history about rape and molestation, drug use, and abusive relationship.

Review: Jesse is still hiding from his past and it isn’t until he tries to start a new relationship that he has to admit that he hasn’t dealt with what happened to him.  With Aadon’s support he begins to face the past. Aadon has had his eye on Jesse for months and now that he has asked him out and started to get to know him he wonders if he can cope with the additional stress that is coming his way.   He hopes he can, because he has no intention of letting Jesse go, if he can help it.

This is an emotional heart-tugging story that shows the vulnerability of all the characters involved. Aadon is already coping with a lot.  He is the only support that his older brother has, his father doesn’t want anything to do with him and his mother follows his father’s lead. Aadon is Dominate in the bedroom and he has set his eyes on Jesse to hopefully become his sub. Jesse has had a terrible experience in the past which still affects him.  He begins slowly with Aadon confessing what happened in the past and Aadon tries his best to support him but Aadon knows that if Jesse doesn’t face the past he could lose himself to the past.

This was a very draining book, as what is happening between these two young men will affect you as well.  You will feel Jesse’s pain and fear, his stubbornness, his anger, his hope and his realization that he isn’t living he is just hiding from the past. With Aadon, you find out what he is already coping with and it will break your heart.  you will see his struggle as he tries to cope with being a support to two emotional and physically abused men, and you begin to wonder when it will all crash down on him as it beings to get too much to cope with.

The characters in this book are incredible, the story-line and plot are well written and are very realistic. Both these young men have their own little families who are there to support them through thick and thin.  We see the psychological effects on both of them and how that affects their relationship and it is not easy sailing. There isn’t much in the way of sex or BDSM but I was glad there wasn’t as it would have taken away the effectiveness of the story-line.

With this one I am going to recommend this to everyone… it isn’t a light read, it isn’t a happy, joyful read… it’s a read that will tear at your heart for the struggle that these young men go through.  It’s a story of hope and recovery and it’s a story of tentative trust and love. I highly recommend this story and will be lurking around the corner waiting for Ricky to start telling his story to Jaime Samms.

Blurb: Until now, Drew and Garrett have been playing at dominance, but things have to change. Drew is already losing himself to the implacable will of his new Master and they have yet to make anything official. That’s what this weekend is supposed to be about – Garrett making Drew his – unless the memories from Garrett’s past are too strong to let him meet Drew’s ultimatum of the real thing or nothing at all.

Review: Erm… well… can’t add anything ‘cause the blurb says it all but what I can say is this… wow, a real hot little number that starts off as it means to end with a hot display of dominance at the beach and it doesn’t let up.

You can feel Drew’s insecurity and doubt about Garret being his master and you can also sense when he accepts Garret’s full dominance.   You feel his discomfort at the exhibitionism that Garrett forced on him.  Unfortunately, as this is from Danny’s POV, you don’t get a feel for Garrett at all.   So you can’t work out his reasoning for what he is doing.

The sex is hot and sensual; the D/s is well done and not over the top.  The characters seem well suited.  Mind you, there isn’t much of a storyline other than Garrett accepting Drew as his sub and Drew accepting Garrett as his Master but it’s well written.

So I’d recommend this to those who love D/s, hot sex and a HEA for a sub and his Master.

Blurb: Hunger can drive a man to do just about anything in order to satisfy it, but when it’s hunger of the heart, will past relationships keep three men wanting more?

Taylor has left home, chased out by his family because he’s gay, and pursued across the prairies by the man who violently assaulted him in his own home. Now he’s homeless, friendless and using his charm and skills learned on his knees before his father’s farm hands to pay for his meals.

Matt sees something more than a desperate whore in the young rancher who comes to his diner in hopes a quick blow job will buy him a meal. He sees past Taylor’s current circumstances to a man who just needs a clean break.

Matt sends Taylor off to his friend Jim’s ranch hoping the older man will see the same things in Taylor and give him the opportunity to start over. No one expects the visceral attraction between the rancher and his new hire.

When Taylor’s past catches up to him, and he realizes he’s put both men in jeopardy just for trying to help him, he thinks maybe he deserves to be branded the fool he is.

Reader Advisory: This story has been previously released as part of the Saddle Up ‘N Ride anthology by Total-E-Bound

Review: Taylor is running from his past and for the past six months he’s had to do things he isn’t proud of to keep going.  He is reaching a breaking point when he meets Matt.  Matt owns a diner and he takes pity on Taylor sending him to the ranch of his friend Jim.   Jim takes Taylor on and when Taylor’s past catches up to him a few secrets are revealed.

At first, I didn’t see where this story was going but I was pleased with the unconventional storyline, Taylor’s fear and hopelessness comes across clearly, Matt seems easy-going but a bit of a riddle and we figure out something unsavory happened to him in the past and Jim is like a solid tree; standing tall and true for these two hurt men.

I really did enjoy this book and I am sure you will agree that this is not the usual type of relationship that we see in the m/m genre simply because it doesn’t follow the unspoken rules of what a happy ever after should be.

I will recommend this to anyone who loves complex men, complicated relationships, hot sex and an unconventional ending.
