Blurb: The world has only recently emerged from a three hundred-year war which saw half of the world’s population wiped out and the rise of five superpowers. Despite the hundreds of millions who died, the Borders War was nearly bloodless because of the sonicrifle—weaponized sound waves, tuned to their highest frequency and harnessed to kill.

Merq Grayson has known only war. He is a skilled Peacemaker, soldier and sniper, and it is his destiny to right the wrong created by his grandfather six generations back—the man who invented the sonicbullet.

Armise Darcan is his enemy. A sniper and Dark Ops officer who fought for the People’s Republic of Singapore in the Borders War, Armise may be the only person on the planet strong enough to keep Merq from completing his mission.

Their loyalties are to conflicting countries and diverging agendas, and despite the very real threat to their lives if they’re discovered, Merq and Armise keep finding their way into each other’s beds. It is a drive which Merq is sure will kill him one day.

But how much time either of them has is questionable. As Opposition is pitted against Revolution, the Borders War reignites, and Merq and Armise have to decide where, and with whom, their real loyalties lie.

A relationship is the least of Merq’s and Armise’s concerns…
With one bullet Merq Grayson set the wealthiest citizens of the world on a collision course with the poorest—those fighting for their freedom. As the Borders War reignites, the Revolution faces heavy losses. They scramble to maintain their advantage, to strike at the Opposition and crumble their power structure before they are able to rally.

But Merq is in the midst of an internal battle that shakes him to the core. For the first time in his life Merq will have to reconcile the inherent tragedy of war and decide just how much vengeance can be justified by spilt blood. How much can he trust the men and women around him? The president, Neveed, his former soldiers, his parents…and Armise.

Merq and Armise find themselves off grid and on the hunt for Committee members. Merq is just as unsettled with Armise at his side as he was with Armise as an enemy, but they will have to learn how to fight together—or they just might die together.

Review: This is the second book in the Borders War series.

It picks up where the first ended. Merq, a soldier, is adjusting to having no mission to be on while Armise is finally with Merq like he wanted to be for a long time now.

These two burn up the pages with their passion. The loyalties are strong in this book as was in the first. Merq has feelings for Armise but doesn’t really know quite how to show them. I really liked that both men stuck to their principles and were cautious regarding others they were not familiar with. As should be the case in a time of war.

Great story line and a smooth read this book immerses the reader in fantastic continuation of a series that leaves you on the edge of your seat awaiting the outcome. It was intense at times.

I love this series and am looking forward to reading more. But I would like to read Armise’ POV from time to time instead of just Merq’s. It would give a better understanding of Armise.

Review: This is the first time I have read a book by this author and I can honestly say that L.F. Blake has a wicked gift. This story is very intense with a lot of darkness to it, which for me was not my type of story at all. I was hoping for a lost love story with a bit of twist.

However this one was just a bit off.

Eric had been in love with Jackson, but not as much as Jackson was with Eric. Eric was a werewolf hunter and had hidden it. After Jackson’s disappearance and what he thought was death, he was in shock to find Jackson was definitely alive. The murders happening to some evil people leaves him to believe werewolf was involved. The biggest problem was Jackson was back as a werewolf.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from it, but was glad for the ending in a way. I can’t say I didn’t like it because I did, but it was definitely not my cup of tea. However it caught my attention and now I have got to see what other books this author has out. I just hope for a bit of a story with a lighter tone to it.

Portia’s Two Cents:  I Love surprises.

I bought this as a Kindle Freebie. I’ve had mixed results with those things. Most are absolutely dreadful, but every now and then, I come across and author that I am thrilled to discover.

L.F. Blake is in that category.

The Hunting is deliciously dark. Eric comes across as a bit lost. He’s good at this job, as a Hunter, but I got the impression, he wasn’t happy. There are just too many unanswered questions surrounding his lover’s disappearance.

Speaking of said lover, Jackson is too hot. But his reappearance raises a host of ethical dilemmas for poor Eric.

My only complaint is that The Hunting wasn’t longer. I would have loved to entered the story sooner and lingered longer. Hopefully, L.F. Blake will return to this alternative reality and finished Eric and Jackson’s story.

A must read if you like good guys who do bad things, and werewolves that don’t play nice.

Review: Kayleigh Sky is a new author for me and I was a bit leery of reading it. I am never sure of what the story is going to turn out to be like, but I have to tell you that this was a blast to read. Although if you do not like violence or rape then you might not want to read this. I should say that it has a reference to rape, not actual rape to it.

This story has a twist that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The characters were well-developed and had a lot of depth to them that has you falling in love with them. Their world was also well-developed and pulls you in. I loved the tone to this story and was fascinated with how well the story turned out. It caught my attention from the moment I started reading and kept it all the way to the end. I was captivated by the whole thing.

A vaccine gave a miracle and created something more deadly to the humans. People were dying all over and panic was setting in. Brey had been convicted of a crime but was now set free to live his life in this new world. He just wanted to find his family. Then a cruel man gets his hands on him and plans on selling him.

Thanks to the man who had arrested him some time ago, he finds a new way of life.

Hank was the one that arrested Brey and now he was the one to save him. He was a cop in this new world as well as the past. He had been a straight man with a family, and then the virus killed them all. Now he needs to deal with the fact that he is attracted to Brey.

There are so many changes that they have to figure out, and the changes coming their way. Brey is the one that pulls me more and I fear that he will be hurt once more. I had so much fun reading this story and the fact that it was by a new author, for me that is, was a major hit.

I can’t wait to see what other stories this amazing author has out.

I would definitely recommend this book.

Review: Interesting book about a king who bonds two men together in the hopes of strengthening their territories. aird Artur is a human and Laird Daineal is dragon. It comes out that they knew each other very well at one time.

Review: This story has been previously released as part of the An Unconventional Chicago anthology by Totally Bound Publishing.

You need to read the first book in this series because if you don’t I can tell you that you will get lost. Moran and Dutch have been fighting a war and trying not to get killed. When Dutch is captured and taken away from him, he fears that he will be killed. So from that time on he had decided to let the man go. It was the only way he could protect the man he loved and his sanity. The problem was Dutch was not going to let that happen.

I had a blast with this story, in fact probably more than the first one. There is so much passion in these two men, that you can’t help but to be captivated by them. Dutch loves Moran so much, that he will risk his life to see him and to hold him one more time. Whereas Moran is just trying to keep Dutch safe. So when Moran is injured, they both know that things have to change.

It was told with so much heart that makes this story explosive to me. I love the way they mingle and fight with trying to keep the other safe. I also love how they are willing to risk all to be with each other. When they get together, the place goes up in smoke from the flames of their passion. It caught my attention from the moment I started reading and kept it all the way to the end. I couldn’t stop reading even if I wanted to. It gave me everything I could possibly want in it. I would recommend this to everyone, but start with the first book so you will know what they fight for.

It will give you sexy men, men with guns, excitement, adventure, hot sex, and lots of danger. What more could you possibly want in a story.

Blurb: How does a world that accepts slavery affect both master and slave? Can two people build a new life for themselves with a start like theirs?

It’s a world like this one except for the all-powerful State that’s very firmly in control and the fact that slavery is legal. Jimmy had never really thought about it or the fight for freedom going on around him. He was too busy enjoying his privileged life as an actor on a sci-fi show.

But what is he meant to do when he’s forced to permanently bond to a slave he doesn’t want just because he made one silly, drunken mistake? Does it change who he is, what he is?
Trouble is, Jimmy isn’t sure who he was to start with. He’d never thought about it.

And what about his slave, Nate? Can a slave force Jimmy into learning something about himself?

Review: The fact this was alternate reality had me intrigued, added in the fact that this tackles the tricky area of slavery also had me intrigued. The concept of slavery in this in interesting because it’s not quite the slavery we know of the past from England and the Americas or even the serfdom seen in Russia and medieval Europe. It’s somewhere between ownership for cheap labour and a personal slave, crossed with compulsory sexual slavery.

Jimmy has committed a minor crime; maybe, he said something the government (The State) weren’t happy about. Part of his punishment is to become a slave owner – in order to make him more responsible and follow The State’s dictates. Basically, I saw it as like giving a little kid a pet and telling them to a responsible pet owner and look after the animal. Jimmy and his slave, Nate, are forced into what The State calls being bonded, which is pretty much marriage. Jimmy is all heart. From the start, although he sees the prospect of having sex with his slave a good way of getting no string sex (because bonding with a slave means consummation must take place). His vulnerability, or more accurately, his naivety comes up a number of times but he shows strength, regardless. He doesn’t want to abuse his slave like many people do. So it appears he is more a rebel to the State, perhaps just a bad citizen rather than a bad person.

As for Nate, he seems like a broken man, completely obedient and resigned to his life as a slave. It actually got annoying sometimes, because he also comes across as a sort of shrinking violet type of guy on a few occasions, despite the harsh life of a slave. The only other thing is that I really want to know more about what’s going in Nate’s head. Yes, he is meant to be obedient but I want to know what makes him tick. This is because Nate is an ever-evolving character throughout the entire story.

I also must admit that I started to get bored after a bit, then bam! Plot twist! This made the story for me. I partly feel sorry and used for Jimmy, but this is also, where I really wanted more from Nate’s perspective, because I went from liking him to starting to hate him. Nate also chooses to look over the fact that Jimmy put him through the best rehab for an injured leg he had before he was bonded to Jimmy. He doesn’t seem to want to redeem himself in Jimmy’s in too much of a hurry and it both annoys me yet I enjoy the tension. Call me twisted, but I love it. There is a second major shift in plot over the last third of the book, which works well because of the length. At the same time, it is the reason for the length of the book. I’m not sure if this second twist was entirely necessary, regardless of how well everything flows.

A couple of points on my mind: Jimmy’s sentence for his “crime”. Although to be fair, this same point is questioned by multiple characters in the book as well it’s never properly explained. All in all, I have some mixed feelings about this, but I suppose that has to do with the nature of slavery influencing my thinking. The other point is that so much emphasis is placed on Jimmy as “changing” when he was never inherently a bad person – at least to me.

This is well written and the characters develop nicely. At first I felt that Jimmy was selfish and Nate was sweet, then my thinking was flipped more than a couple of times throughout. There were a couple of times when one or the other needed a hit on the upside of the head. Ultimately, I was just on the edge of my proverbial seat; just wanting to known happens to this certainly unique couple. This book isn’t for the faint of heart and some scenes are just brutal, but still it flows so well.

The pace starts off a bit slow, but after Jimmy is released from prison the action and emotion picks up and follows nonstop through to the end. And if nothing else, the title of this book was aptly chosen.

Review: This is book three of the Unconventional Chicago series and I have to tell you that it was one hell of a great read. These books can be read as a standalone story.

I was amazed with this story even though it had me tasting for more. It left me wanting to know more about what was going on and wanting to know if Georgio and Tito make it out alive. It left me hanging with that. The characters were not only beautifully written but there was so much strength in them all.

Tito needed money to keep his brother safe and healthy. His brother needed a doctor and soon. He knew the only way to get that kind of money was to become a runner for a mob boss. What he had not expected was Georgio. Georgio was one of the brothers who ran the mob business.

However, he was not a bit like them. He wanted a way out and he knew he wanted Tito with him. Talk about surprises when Tito and his brother go to the resistance and find Georgio there along with his best friend. They had a plan to get out, now if only they could stay alive to do it.

I couldn’t believe that there are people out there that actually go through this, but you know there is. I loved how Georgio tried to keep his people safe, even if it meant betraying his brothers.
I loved this story. It gave me the perfect amount of angst, danger, pain, love, and fear. It gave me everything I could want in a story and in fact, it gave me even more.

I would recommend reading this book, you won’t be disappointed. My attention was caught with the first sentence and kept it there all the way to the end.

Review: This story has been previously released as part of the An Unconventional Chicago Anthology. It was an amazing story but would be better if it had been longer. I want to know what happens to these two sexy men. It is a fascinating story with a lot of action and suspense that left me wanting for more.

Farris was supposed to the head of his crime family, but after his brothers betrayal he had spent several years in a mental institute. He had been beaten and tortured in there. His heart was full of hatred for his brother and wanted revenge. The betrayal was the only way his brother could have what he wanted.

Darien knew he needed to find Tomas’s lover. Farris was the only one who could help him find the missing brother of a friend of his. Farris’s brother had told Farris that he had killed him, but in truth, he did something much more evil. He however had not expected to fall for Farris. Although he thought that maybe being in an institute might have made Farris just a tad bit insane.

This story was a blast to read but for me I want to know more. I want to know what happens next, the dang thing left me just hanging. I hate that when it does happen. It was an amazing story and I will be spending my time reading more of T. A. Chase’s books.

I would recommend reading this if you love sexy men, feisty and craziness, betrayal, hot sex, twist and turns and danger. The only problem I had was the fact that it seemed rushed and pushed together. I can’t wait to check out the author’s site to see if there will be something more of these two sexy men.

Review: An interesting story of two men drawn together in a world split into two sides. There is the Corhall’s who have everything they could possibly want and take things for granted. Then there are the soldiers who are supposed to keep the peace and take out those they believe to be not trustful.

Valentine is a handsome man who used to be in the courts favor. Now he is reduced to serving the richest of Corhall’s. I was never sure how he had fallen out of court. But I was disgusted that the Corhall’s thought nothing of using him at their leisure.

Reed is a soldier who rescues Valentine’s sister from being arrested and thus begins his affair with Valentine. It was hot and passionate.

Though I did wish Valentine would’ve explained why he was the way, he was.

All in all, it was a good read.

Blurb: In a world of devastation and slavery, two men must find the courage to overcome the pain of their pasts and fight for what they believe in–or fall, forever lost, to the ravages of war.

Biochemical war has devastated the landscape. Societies have fallen to territorial battles and new laws have arisen, of which leaders were made by blood and force, and slavery was condoned.

Markus is a man who has lost everything. Cold and precise, he rules his territory with an iron fist. Nothing could break through his barrier of control. Until he meets a boy who challenges his emotional restraint.

Corin, born from rape and forced to work as a pleasure slave, has suffered through pain and degradation for as long as he can remember. His will to live has been all but destroyed by the hatred and abuse of his parents. Yet, he survives on the love of his sisters and the hope for a better life.

That hope is nearly ended, however, when his parents sell him to Markus. Now in the hands of the most feared man in the territory, he must find a way back to his sisters. But that path is not so easily taken. Under Markus’ control, he learns that being a slave is not about losing oneself, and that having a Master to show him the seduction of submission might be something he’d been searching for all along.

As the seeds of love grow unexpectedly between them, a war brews on the horizon. Can Corin trust that Markus would do anything to keep him and his sisters safe, or will he deny that which his heart cries out for?

Review: Corin has been abused all his life by his stepfather. One day while his stepfather is being beat for not paying money he owes his mother tells the men to take him to pay off the debt. From that moment on, he is the slave to the most feared man in the territory, Markus.

Markus is known for not tolerating insubordination from his men or slaves. Supposedly, he’s a cruel man. But the longer Corin is with him the more he sees that it’s not true. Markus has always protected those he felt were under his protection and Corin in most definitely in that category.

This book has intense scenes of abuse, non-consent sex, drama, and action. I found myself being angry on behalf of Corin at the way his stepfather treated him. It wasn’t his fault that his mother was gang-raped and he was the product of it. Yet, his mother and stepfather hated him and treated him in despicable ways until Markus took him away from all that. Markus and Corin both needed each other to help them get over the pain they went through in their pasts. The sex between Markus and Corin was hot at times, yet scary at others.

It was a good read.
