A Soldier’s Wish

(Christmas Angel 05)
by

N.R. Walker

The year is 1969…

Gary Fairchild is proud to be a hippie college student, and he protests the Vietnam War because he believes in love and peace. To him, it isn’t just a counterculture movement—it’s a way of life. When tickets to the Aquarium Exposition—3 Days of Peace & Music, or Woodstock, as it was better known, go on sale, there’s no way he isn’t going.

Richard Ronsman is a sheltered farm boy who lives in the shadow of his overbearing father. He’s hidden his darkest secret to earn his father’s love, but nothing is ever good enough—not even volunteering for the Vietnam War. And with just a few days left before he’s deployed, he’s invited by a striking hippie to join him at a music festival.

Three days of music, drugs, rain, mud, and love forged a bond between these two very different men that would shape the rest of their lives. They share dreams and fears, and when Richard is shipped off to war, they share letters and love. For Richard’s first Christmas home, he is gifted a special angel ornament that just might make a soldier’s wish come true.

This story is one of seven stories which can all be read and enjoyed in any order.

Pax Polo is the swashbuckling guitarist for Serenity Free.

Correction: Was the swashbuckling guitarist for Serenity Free.

Now he sports a black eye and his bros have kicked him out of their band—three weeks before Christmas. It’s an unfamiliar kick to his over-inflated ego, but . . . whatever.

No problem.

Thanks to some stellar eavesdropping, an unexpected angel ornament, and a bribe to open for his favorite band ever, Pax will weasel his way back into his mates’ good graces.

All he has to do is friend Clifford, the neighborhood man-shrew, for the summer. Distract him a bit so Clifford’s younger sister can sneak around.

It sounds like a piece of beginners Beethoven. Jolly good fun.

Easy.

Because, Pax totally knows how to friend people. He has heaps of friends. This shrew’s no match for his shrewd ways. Or is he?

A Very Vampire Christmas

(Interview with the Kevin)
by

Mark Lesner

Stuck for ideas on what to get his wealthy, blind, vampire lover for Christmas, Kevin comes up with the idea of recovering Danton’s long-lost but much-favored glass eyes from their home in a Wild West museum. But one touch of the eyes and Kevin is swept by his developing clairvoyant powers into a psychic nightmare of the old Wild West the eyes ‘witnessed’ while still in Danton’s head. The journey reveals a gunslinger Sheriff Danton, brings to light the lingering threat of Danton’s violent vampire ex-lover, and ultimately seals a new bond between Kevin and Danton in a Christmas to remember.

Review: Neutral Zone is the charming Christmas novella by RJ Scott and VL Locey which is the seventh book in the Harrisburg Railer’s series. This is one of those books where it is essential that you read the previous books in the series (all six of them are fantastic but Poke Check is definitely my favorite).

In this book we are back to the story of Tennant Rowe and Jared Madsen, the original couple that started it all for the Harrisburg Railers. The event that leads to Tennant having to find his way back to the ice actually happened in the first book of a spin-off series featuring Jared’s son in college, Owatonna U. For the actual details of the events you need to read Ryker (Owatonna U 1) as it isn’t rehashed in a great deal of detail in this novella. Instead, this book is about healing and love with a dash of Christmas frivolity.

Ten and Mads are a wonderfully loving couple that have dynamite chemistry together, but they also have to much heart as well. They compliment each other so well and it is obvious in this book. Not only do the guys have to go through one of the hardest times any person could go through, but they also have to deal with a house full of Rowe’s at Christmas. Ten’s brothers are loud and rowdy and they inject more depth into a relatively simple story.

This novella is essential reading for fans of the Railers series. I am totally looking forward to 2019 when we get more from the Railers. Especially in February where we go back into the lives of sweet, giant Russian Stan, and this blonde Adonis, Erik. For those unfamiliar with the series, I know there are a lot of fans of MM that love sports, particularly hockey, and if you haven’t read I reckon you’d love this novella (as well as the rest of the series).

Review: I loved this story about Bo and Gabe. It was tender, sweet and emotional from the get go. Gabe was patient with Bo as the two got to know one another. But, Gabe didn’t express himself well from time to time which caused misunderstandings on Bo’s part.

I loved how Gabe tried his best with Bo despite sometimes not knowing what to do. Bo had problems in the fact that sometimes he assumed things instead of just asking. But still it was a cute holiday story filled with happiness and a happily ever after.

Fantastic read.

Blurb: It’s not easy for Spenser Roland to admit it, but he needs help. Christmas is just a few days away, and he can’t face the idea of showing up to his family’s gathering alone … again. They want to see him happily settled, but Spenser doesn’t date. He can’t risk it if he wants to protect his family. But one unexpected night with Evan Scott has him thinking that maybe he can strike a deal that will make his family happy and give him a little holiday cheer as well.

Evan never should have accepted a ride home from the sexy-as-hell corporate executive, but he’s proud that he stuck to his guns. He’s done with the one-night stand game. He wants something real. Something that lasts. But when Spenser returns, asking him to pose as his boyfriend over the weekend at a Christmas celebration, Evan is sure he’s lost his mind.

But he can’t say no.

Maybe it’s the shadow of loneliness in Spenser’s bright blue eyes that’s too much like his own. Or maybe it’s his heart-stopping smile.

Either way, Evan knows he’s on thin ice with Spenser, risking his own rules and heart, but Spenser is worth the risk..

Review: I really enjoyed this story about Spenser and Evan. However, it threw me when after turning Spenser down for a one night stand that when he agrees to go with Spenser to his family’s for Christmas they were not there long when they had sex. Um, I thought Evan did not want that?

There were a lot of cute moments meeting Spenser’s family and some interesting background information on both men. I was touched at the way both these men were there for the other when they needed it the most. They were a great fit together once they both got over whatever was holding them back from being happy.

Great read.

His first task comes soon, as the alpha’s daughter, Sara, goes missing from college. Mishka accompanies several others to San Francisco, following a lead to her whereabouts. While his alpha is busy consulting with a detective who’s aware of shifters, Mishka hits the streets and starts searching. What he finds, however, isn’t what he expected—his mate. Mishka discovers a young, crippled human living in an abandoned warehouse. With a lot of coaxing—and the promise of a good meal and a hot shower—Mishka convinces Aramis to join him at the home the shifters have rented. When the detective shows up, an untrusting Aramis disappears. Learning that Aramis may be able to help discover Sara’s whereabouts only heightens his need to find the man once more. If Mishka manages to track Aramis down again, can he convince his mate that his intentions are sincere and not just a means to an end?

Reviewer: Lisa

Review: Each book in the Wolves of Stone Ridge collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

Mishka lost the fight for a beta position but ended up in the enforcer’s instead. His alpha was known for fairness, loyalty and kindness. Until his daughter was kidnapped from school. Now they were on their way to San Francisco to find her and another shifter’s daughter. While searching for her, he came across a sweet young man who just happens to be his mate. A mate that is not only human but also injured shouldn’t be too hard to convince him to come back with them. That is as soon as he locates him after he takes off.

Aramis had been kicked out at fourteen when his parents found out he was gay. He has lived for some time on the street and knew how to get around. After not giving the gang what they wanted the men had left him with a screwed up knee and hand.. Then a man shows up and wants to take him away, sure not too hard to believe. Wait till he finds out Mishka is a wolf shifter.

I have always gotten a kick out of Charlie’s stories and that is not going to change. I can guarantee that it is one of those that will be read many times over. Excitement, action, danger and some hot sexy times are just a bit of what you get in these books. Now for the downside to this story: It felt rushed and the ending pretty much leaves you hanging. Then there is the fact that Aramis actually does trust him after he tells him he is a shifter. There was no shifting in the story plus you miss out on the actual action of getting the girls back. I felt robbed of most of the story.

I was a bit disappointed in this book and that was the biggest shock of all. However that doesn’t mean it isn’t one hell of a good book and kept me entertained. But, yes I felt like I was robbed of an awesome story that could have given me more.

Blurb: There are two sides to every story, even those buried in the past.

When Sam spots the hot guy moving in next door, he’s all for going round to introduce himself. That soon changes when it turns out his new neighbour is Charles Whitmore, an old school acquaintance. Sam didn’t like him back then, for good reason, and fifteen years haven’t altered that.

Splitting up from his long-term boyfriend means a move across the city for Charlie. As luck would have it, his immediate neighbour is a guy he went to school with, Sam Gellar. While Sam is less than welcoming, his best mate is more than happy to invite Charlie into their social circle. Whatever problem Sam has with him, Charlie resolves to get to the bottom of it because, frosty beginnings aside, Charlie likes him.

With Christmas just around the corner, fate pushes them together, and they get on much better than they ever did at school. Despite his efforts not to, Sam develops feelings for Charlie, and they appear to be reciprocated. If Sam wants to take things further, he needs to either confront Charlie about their past—a past Charlie seems to have forgotten entirely—or let it go and move on. Sam knows deep down that he can’t let it go, but can’t find the right time to bring it up either.

ISBN: B07KWGRB1F

Reviewer: Lisa

Review: Sam and Dave are definitely being themselves. Sticking their noses in the window to see who the new people are moving in next door. When he realizes who it is, he acts like a total asshat. It would seem it was someone from the past. Someone who had done something bad or so he thought, and he hung on to that attitude. Guess he never heard there were always two sides to a story.

Charlie had broke up with his long time boyfriend and they went their separate ways, at least in a sense. They were still friends, but it didn’t make the holidays coming up look any better. Then he caught a sight of his neighbor and things were looking up. Even if the guy did avoid him.

I found that this one was a bit of a mixture for me. I didn’t really care for Sam at all. He comes off a bit stuffy and odd. Here is a man who holds a 15 year old grudge against Charlie for kicking another guys ass. A guy that dumped Sam’s friendship just because he was gay. I would have been cheering Charlie when meeting up with him again. But that is just me. I did like that in the beginning he stood up for his friend, but now not so much. I loved Sam’s cat phobia though, and the fact that Charlie’s cat seemed to choose Sam. It was adorable.

The story itself had its good parts as well as it’s boring parts. It is a cute slow burn romance that moved to slowly for me. I didn’t really care for the slow pace to the story as it just didn’t keep my attention like it should have. Other than that, it was well written and quite funny in parts. It was a cute Christmas story that worked well for the holidays.

I did enjoy reading this story and look forward to seeing what other stories this author has out there.

Home for Christmas

(Texas 09)
by

R.J. Scott

Can Connor show River a real family Christmas?

When Connor finds River on the roof of the campus admin building, he doesn’t know what to do. His friend is drunk, and shouting into a snowstorm, a bottle of vodka in his hand. The easy part is getting River down; the hard part is insisting River comes home with Connor for Christmas.

River doesn’t have a family, or any place outside of college that he calls home. Not that it matters to him; he’s happy being alone for Christmas in his budget motel, watching reruns of Elf. Only, Connor keeps telling wildly improbable stories of the perfect family celebrations at his parents’ ranch in Texas, and it’s wearing River down. He didn’t ask to be kidnapped. He didn’t want to fall in love with the entire Campbell-Hayes family. But he does.

From one Christmas to the next. This is Connor’s year to rescue River, and himself, for them both to mess things up, make things right, fall in lust and finally, for Connor to show the man he loves what being part of a family can mean.

Christmas Homecoming

(Christmas Angel 04)
by

L.A. Witt

August 1939. Roger Miller and Jack O’Brien have been close since childhood. By the time they realize there’s more between them than friendship, Jack is leaving their sleepy Iowa town for college. But they console themselves knowing he’ll be home for Christmas. Right?

It is Christmas before they see each other again, but that Christmas comes six years and a world war later. Aged, beaten, and shaken by combat, they’re not the boys they were back then, but their feelings for each other are stronger than ever.

Neither know the words to say everything they’ve carried since that peacetime summer kiss, though. Even as they stand in the same room, there’s a thousand miles between them.

But maybe that’s some distance the little angel in Roger’s rucksack can cross.

This 24,000 word novella is part of the multi-author Christmas Angel series, and can be read as a standalone.

Summerfield’s Angel

(Christmas Angel 02)
by

Kim Fielding

After the hard winter of 1888 ended Alby Boyle’s work as a Nebraska ranch hand, he returned to New York City in search of his long-lost family. His mother and brothers are nowhere to be found, however, and after Alby’s years of absence, Five Corners no longer feels like home. His prospects seem as dim as the nighttime alleys.

When Alby pauses to admire an angel ornament in a department store window’s Christmas display, he meets Xeno Varnham-Summerfield. Better Not Pout by Annabeth Albert

Title: Better Not Pout

Author: Annabeth Albert

Genre: Contemporary, Holiday, Christmas

Length: Novel (288 Pages)

Publisher: Carina Press (November 12, 2017)

Heat level: Low

Heart Rating: 💖💖💖💖 4 Hearts

Blurb: One hard-nosed military police officer.

One overly enthusiastic elf.

One poorly timed snowstorm.

Is it a recipe for disaster? Or a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for holiday romance?

Teddy MacNally loves Christmas and everything that goes along with it. When he plays an elf for his charity’s events, he never expects to be paired with a Scrooge masquerading as Santa Claus. His new mission: make the holiday-hating soldier believe he was born to say ho-ho-ho.

Sergeant Major Nicholas Nowicki doesn’t do Santa, but he’s army to his blood. When his CO asks an unusual favor, Nick of course obliges. The elf to his Kris Kringle? Tempting. Too tempting—Nick’s only in town for another month, and Teddy’s too young, too cheerful and too nice for a one-night stand.

The slow, sexy make-out sessions while Teddy and Nick are alone and snowbound, though, feel like anything but a quick hookup. As a stress-free holiday fling turns into Christmas all year round, Teddy can’t imagine his life without Nick. And Nick’s days on the base may be coming to a close, but he doesn’t plan on leaving anything, or anyone, behind.

Review: Nick was all for doing his job, but did his job have to have him dressed up as Santa for a whole month? His commander’s husband who usually played the part had had a heart attack and was not able to do it. So it was his job to find someone who could, however he was the only one available. It wasn’t like he hated the holiday but his home life growing up didn’t give into the cheer of a holiday with no family. His sister was married with kids but had been one of those teenage girls who ran wild, his mother was a drunk, his dad ran off and then died. Leaving him alone for most of his life. He joined the military after graduation and was now going to retire in one month. A month left and then it was Florida all the way. To bad it wasn’t for him. Then he comes across a cute elf that just might have his mind changed and his heart.

Teddy was all for giving. When he was a child his older brother had passed away in an accident and he just felt that he couldn’t leave home. It was his safety net, and lets face it he loved it. Then he is working with a very grumpy Santa who made his mouth water. One month that was all he had, plans need to be figured out.

It definitely gave you that Christmas feeling and the setting rocked. I loved the characters and the family surrounding them. I will admit that I didn’t care for Nick at all, well until the final end. I did love the grumpy Santa scenes and the highly suggestive and bossy elf who had a big heart. Now for the downside, yes the guys had chemistry but the passion and heat were missing somewhat. They just didn’t connect like they should have and quite frankly I think it was Nick. The story was cute and gave you a sense of cheer, but it also was a bit dull to me. It was just missing something and I couldn’t really see what I wanted to see.

Overall it is a really cute story that was entertaining. I enjoyed most of it but for me I need more zest. However it is a good book and I would recommend it.
